Magic!

The coffee is delicious. The French Toast Croissant was so good, that I actually had to come in twice during my visit to Melbourne, just so I could have it again. The staff was helpful and patient as I asked some questions about their menu items. The waitress saw I was working on my laptop and made sure I found the WiFi password which is also conveniently throughout the restaurant on the table tops. The fairy floss is a sweet touch to some drink items and breakfast plates, which I did enjoy. My table neighbors poured their hot beverage from their beakers, over the fairy floss into their cups where it melted was a bit mesmerizing to watch.

This just goes to prove you can not always judge a book by it's cover, or in this case a terrible name. While it's true the name (or symbol) "#" sends a uncomfortable shiver down my spin, the cafe experience is terrific. I first went here when It had first opened. On my subsequent trips the waitress still remembers me and where I like to sit - I'm amazed. The venue is large and nicely lit with an option to sit outside, on the main floor or, as I prefer, upstairs on the landing. There are great people watching opportunities from high above. Coffee is expertly poured and tasty, chai is perfect and all tables have scientific beakers filled with sparkling water. The menu has all day breakfast and some tasty lunch options. The french toast has been my go to meal, it's excellent. Prices are higher than most with a meal and coffee setting you back around $25. Lovely place and I'll be back.

I admit that I was lured to this place by the theatre of its infamous hot chocolate but I ended up also ordering brunch (leek and cheddar croquettes) and have no regrets. To truly appreciate how Hash Specialty Coffee & Roasters made it on the map check out the videos on Instagram of foodies pouring the hot chocolate over the fairy floss - it's so hypnotizing!

Pretty hot chocolate - I wouldn't advise asking for soy milk as it doesn't really work with it!

Hot Chocolate Quest - stop #3! Everyone has seen Hash's hot chocolate, I just had to see if it was as good as it looked! I took a soy hot chocolate, and I guess soy milk just doesn't really work with this set up. The chocolate was really thick, and fell in clumps instead of running freely. I had to ask for extra milk to get it all out (which I had to pay for), and was just disappointed. Then as it fell in clumps, parts of the chocolate fell to the side (that's probably just me being clumsy), and it just created a hole in the middle of the floss instead of dissolving it in a pretty way. All in all, not a great set up :( BUT - the hot chocolate itself was good (obviously as it's Mörk!), so that's why I'm still at 3 stars. But not more! I'll definitely come back for the food though, as I was eyeing everyone's plate hungrily!

This place was great! We were there early on a Sunday so there were only a few other customers. Servers were friendly and we ended up chatting with our waitress about things to do in Melbourne (we're American and funny enough she was too!) The menu we saw on Yelp was not the menu that was there so I'm adding the menu we received. Everything we had was amazing- from the coffee to the breakfast. Get the Clafoutis, you will not be disappointed. I cannot recommend it enough!

I was told by some Yelpers at a recent YEE to check out this place for the hot chocolate, and I have to confess I did it for the Instagram photo op, but golly, the food here is solid too! The hot chocolate, as you might already know, is a conical flask of hot chocolate, poured on top of a milk fairy floss. The showmanship is impressive, but the taste is surprisingly decent, as we have often come to not expect much from good-looking hipster food. I got the kingfish rosti, which was kingfish cured in beetroot atop a very crunchy rosti. Golly! I enjoyed every bite, with a dash of tartar sauce. Delish! My friend got the very pretty espresso panna cotta, which came in a bed of flowers. Now this was tasty, but it was in the brekkie mains section, which portion-wise made it quite inadequate as a brekkie main. Would return, over and over!

Previously, I was so impressed with Hash that I would heartily recommend Hash if Hardware Societe has a long queue. Today, there are three reasons why I would hesitate to recommend Hash after today's experience. 1) the food took 35 mins to arrive after ordering. They are fairly busy today but they are not full. I shudder to think what happens when they are full. It would probably take about the same amount of time to wait in Hardware AND get food. 2) my order of waffles was sitting in the pass for more than 10 mins, waiting for the rest of the order to be cooked. The result? Rock hard waffles. Which was too bad because the ricotta, orange and mango flavours were amazing and so on point. Yet I can probably knock someone out throwing a waffle at them. 3) my bubs scrambled eggs have pieces of egg shells in it. The lack of care when creating this dish just makes me feel they don't give a sh.. about what they do in the kitchen. Sorry but a score of 2 I felt was very generous already.

Favorite brunch I've had in Melbourne so far! I started with the infamous hot chocolate served in a beaker to pour over the fairy floss. I'm not much of a hot chocolate person, but it was too interesting not to try! I liked how the chocolate was more bitter than sweet, and the presentation was of course stellar! For food I ordered The Duffle, an herbed waffle topped with apple braised pulled duck, hazelnut, poached eggs, a citrus hollandaise, and an orange and fennel salad on the side. The citrus gave a nice balance to this dish. Clearly the food was too good to last long enough for a photo!

A favourite cafe with a innovative menu. Favorites like smashed avo to a vegan espresso pannacotta. Hot chocolate is a must try highly commended mushrooms as well! Gets busy but worth the wait!

A dimly lit venue with a massive '#' light on the wall, it looks great and is a nice relaxing spot for a catch up with friends. I had the waffles and they were delicious accompanied with some fresh mango!! The coffee - I had a 'Magic' - was nice but I've had better. It just wasn't a strong and flavoursome as I enjoy. The staff are super friendly too.

I was there this afternoon for brunch with a friend. We're both foodies and appreciated the innovative food and drinks menu. Both of us were hankering for something healthy, and we ended up getting the crushed avocado and beetroot cured kingfish dishes. Both were scrumptious and gorgeously plated. The space is modern, and industrial looking with chic black-and-white photographs hung on the walls, as well as a massive lit up hashtag fixture on the wall in the nook where we were seated. There are two large communal tables in the space where you have to share tables with others should you be seated there. Otherwise private tables are available indoor or outside on the street if it's a nice day. Would highly reccomend this place, but be prepared for a bit of a wait on weekends, though not as long as hardware Societe opposite :-)

Smashed peas trout. Avocado toadt

I don't know why this place isn't more popular given the outrageous lines at Hardware Societe right across the street. The coffee here is on point, the brunch food outstanding and location convenient! I had the smashed peas trout toast with a poached egg and it was simple but succulent. Had a side of pork belly (strongly recommend) and the hot chocolate is served creatively with cotton candy!

Hash has been open for almost two years now. It started as a very trending place, right across the famous and always busy Hardware Societe. They are best known for their iconic cotton candy thick delicious hot chocolate. love em
