It sounded like a nice wee change and a visit to deep south of Glasgow. This was indeed a special wee Yelp outing as these don't happen very often. I was looking forward to my Caribbean treat and meeting up with my fellow Yelpers. I managed to find the Southside by train to Queen's Park Station and it's only a 5 minutes hop, skip and jump to The Rum Shack. I was unfortunately in still a bit of pain from the Kiltwalk so think I didn't get to enjoy the experience as much as I had hoped. We were seated on stools at 2 separate high tables. I think I was craving a normal seat, which are available by the way. The menu had a fairly nice varied choice of Caribbean dishes, some with a Scottish twist. So I opted for the Haggis Balls to kick off this food night. The starter was absolutely delicious, the sauce wasn't too hot and with a pleasant amount of sweetness to compliment my balls. Oh yeah! OK, so they were actually "fritters". I felt some of the menu for me was a bit on the spicy side so opted for the vegetarian dish of Cuban black bean and rice with fried plantain and sweet potatoes. I have to say it was very different but quite palatable. It was lovely décor and the staff could not be any more helpful, they were very accommodating and polite. I'm not sure I would venture back here as I felt there was nothing else on the menu I would really try, I think it would be nice to swing by for some drinks as they have a fully stocked bar and I'm sure there's a rum lurking in there somewhere that I may like. Try for yourselves, for me I just wasn't blown out my boots.

It was…read morequiet and when walking in to the main bar for the first time there were no menu's on the tables. We weren't sure where to sit or the set up of the place but after finding a seat the staff were welcoming and helpful. We were in for food more than drinks, however I did have a tasty dark rum and ginger beer or two which was as nice as you'd hope. The service was quick and after ordering the waitress brought over a bottle of their house chilli sauce with a warning that it was incredibly hot - she wasn't lying! It was lovely though, not sure if they do, but they should sell it by the bottle. The menu was small which I find a welcome sign, I always hope this means the kitchen have perfected the few dishes they list and I was not disappointed. To start we had Accra and Popcorn Prawns, the prawns were nice and came with a tasty sauce but the Accra was the definite winner for the starter. For our mains we had Jerk Pit Fish of the Day and Jerk Pit Pork belly, both came with corn on the cob and rice and peas. The jerk seasoning was great, and had a good heat to it, as you would expect. The rice was well cooked and well seasoned and the fish tender and flakey. I could have done with an extra corn on the cob - that dipped in their hot sauce was a highlight for the veggie lover in me. Not eating meat personally, I never tried the pork belly, however I was told it was delicious. It's not far from a top rating for me (I'd give it 4 and a half if I could), the only downfalls I found were the atmosphere little a lacking, probably down to the time of day we visited, between lunch and dinner. I think it would be a great evening trip. I found the material of the plates a little distracting, it felt a little like eating off of paper plates. Over all I'd recommend it, I'll definitely be back to eat here again!

On looking around l got the feeling that there was something missing maybe it's because the walls where empty & the volume of the hi fi at level 1. I liked the tables but the seats had the remains of food debris all over, possibly an oversight by the cleaners. Service was quick I think that was down to myself being the only person there. I ordered the buddy's special burger with a side of plain fries & a side of 6 wings with a cherries, coke and bourbon dressing. The burger could have done with a little seasoning and would have been very nice if it hadn't been for the well done bacon, on eating the burger you could feel was.the crunchy bacon that was well overdone like having grit in your mouth. The fries you could tell where re heats & placed under a grill to re heat as some had browned unevenly, they where tasteless. The chicken wings where a classic disaster and resembled what could be only describe as chunky chicken legs, I've been cooking for over 25 years and never seen chicken wings this big, they where tasteless and even though l ordered a side dressing that had as much flavour was water, I have the impression that this place opened without much thought of the menu & interior, it's such a shame as l think they have a great idea but not thought it through properly. My server was attentive but the rest of the staff where avoiding customers. Atmosphere 2 Food -1 Value -1 Service 4

This was my first trip, so I wasn't sure what to expect, but I've heard so many good things about it, I was really keen! We turned up around 8pm on Friday night, to find the place a lot less busy than we expected, which was good for us as there were 8 of us. We waited for around 10-15 minutes while they prepared a table for us, and in the meantime we perused the menu, which was full of burgers, including winner of Glasgow's Best Burger 2013, and a range of meats from their BBQ, like pulled pork, brisket and ribs. The restaurant itself is very much designed to look like an American style diner, with red and white decor, leather booths and seats. The diner is split into two sections - at the front is a large, central bar with limited seating, and at the back a full restaurant area, where we were seated. We sat down at our table and ordered drinks, while I sat painstakingly trying to choose what to have. I ended up opting for the Smashin' Burger - a 6oz patty of house blend meat with a mustard rub, topped with sauteed onions and double Monterrey Jack cheese. To make it extra special, I added pulled pork for £3. The burgers don't come with fries, so I ordered a portion of garlic fries and Sam ordered a portion of the Sweet Potato Waffle Fries. After drooling over the menu, it felt like an agonisingly long wait for our food to arrive, but realistically it was probably about 20 minutes. The food arrived diner style in plastic baskets and red & white striped paper - no cutlery necessary! The burger was cooked medium, which I always prefer as it means the meat stays nice and juicy. The pulled pork was flavoursome and tender, to be honest, after a tough week, it was exactly what we all needed. The garlic fries were delicious, most likely using garlic salt. If you can't handle much garlic, these aren't for you, but if you do, they definitely hit the spot. Just don't breathe too close to anyone after eating them! Sam's sweet potato waffle fries were more like crisps, and were served with maple syrup, which sounds weird, but works so well! Along with a couple of drinks each and including the tip, the bill came to around £20 each, which might seem a little steep, but for 2 glasses of wine, a burger with extra meat and a portion of fries, I couldn't really complain. I understand why Buddy's has a reputation for providing tasty, uncomplicated food. We might be becoming overrun with too many burger joints here in Glasgow, but I think Buddy's is hopefully one that's here to stay!

The wife ordered their "Fisherman" which is pan seared Scottish coley or pollock (for 27 GBP). The battered fish with the chips was more delicately done here and delicious. As an aside I tried several times to find a place here in Glasgow or in Edinburgh that did a "special" fish and chips, that is breaded with crumbs and not battered, but apparently no one does that healthier old school preparation anymore (and I need to inform my old work colleague who hailed from Glasgow and gave me this inside tip that it's not practiced anymore). I also had a Chieftain IPA. The side of peas were dryish and not flavorful and small portioned and not done as well and tasty as I have had in London or Perth, just saying. We also had their sticky toffee pudding with ice cream for dessert and that was good. The fries were mediocre. Server was friendly and attentive. 4 stars overall and a nice local flavor Glasgow outing.

As a bar it is decent, seems a bit rough about the edges in a dive bar type of way, but the clientele usually are ok and the atmosphere always seems pleasant enough. It's got a lot going on, In that there is a club down stairs, food is served upstairs and there is also a lot of focus on it just being a pub. I've been a good few times and it's usually mobbed. I think that's partly because there ain't any other decent pubs on queen street (that I can think of) and it means everyone heads here. In other areas it might not be my first destination, but where it is it ranks quite highly amongst the places I would stop for a pint if passing. Sometimes it even has some unusual bottles of craft beer hidden in the fridges which is always a good thing. Could be a three on anther street, but a better option on queen street, so I will go with a positive 4 stars.

We looked at the menu at a few places around the area, but decided that Gusto & Relish was the winner. Trying not to negate the workout we had, I attempted to order something more on the healthy side. I'm not sure that worked since I ordered the french toast with maple syrup and last minute decided I wanted to try their veggie haggis. I could see the disappointment in my boyfriends heart, being a true lover of haggis, but I do quite like the veggie option when I can get it. He went for scrambled eggs, a fried egg, beans and toast and a coffee. When our food came out, I was a bit put off the way they piled the veggie haggis on top of my sweet french toast, but I ate it first and got on with it. I made my boyfriend try the veggie haggis, and much to my surprise, although he said he'd never actually order it, he didn't hate it. I quite enjoyed it and the massive amount they gave me actually filled me up before I even started on my french toast. The french toast was a massive portion. I'm not really sure what I was expecting, but the slices of toast were really thick and perfectly cooked. The wee pot of syrup that came along could have been a bit bigger, but that's just me being a greedy American wanting my french toast covered in syrup. I would have also loved some powdered sugar (icing sugar as they call it here) and it would have been the best. Needless to say, it was still really great and super filling. I ended up giving a piece to my boyfriend unable to finish the three pieces. The boyfriend quite liked his eggs, beans and toast, but didn't enjoy his coffee one bit. I even tried it- it was very acidic and bitter. I wouldn't have been able to drink it, but my boyfriend drank it like a champ. All in all, our breakfast was delicious and the service was great. While we were waiting for our food, we noticed they have a bunch of Scottish goods for sale, which was great to see. For any of you looking for Suki teas, (I've been on the hunt and have found they're only sold online) they sell a few here. Yay!

I was in for some food but just made a super quick decision when I saw the menu - Eggs Florentine with added spinach. What can I say, I'm a bit addicted to Eggs Benny and all its variations. This place is really nice inside - classier than your average cafe and pretty cosy. The breakfast tea was delicious and service was warm and friendly. I loved the presentation of the eggs - generous with a lovely rocket salad on the side and an added side which I think was a potato scone (I ate it too quickly to remember properly). The only reason I have to dock a star is that the muffins were burnt in parts which I know sometimes happen but my god I hate a burnt muffin. The rest of the dish was just lovely though and I really enjoyed it. Prices are reasonable for the area, and as I said, the staff are really friendly. They don't seem to have a huge deli section (as mentioned in some other reviews) but that wouldn't put me off going back for lunch or breakfast. Also, it looks like they don't have a customer toilet but if you ask the staff, they'll point you behind the counter and past the kitchen down the stairs.
