Who would have thought the gritty East End would play host to a place like Tibo. First the West End, then the South Side. I wonder if Dennistoun is next in line for the bohemian, deli packed gentrification that appears to be taking place all over Glasgow. I visited Tibo with my boyfriend on Sunday for lunch. It was the perfect choice for a lazy afternoon, a goal the proprietors seem to be aiming for with their choice of chill out music which included Lou Reed's "Perfect Day." The thing I liked best about Tibo is, even though it is technically a cafe, you feel as comfortable sipping a pint of beer as you do pouring a pot of tea. This is not easy to find in Glasgow. I know you can order tea in most pubs but I always feel a bit silly doing so, particularly when there is a massive queue at the bar. I picked stack of french toast with mozzarella, pesto and tomato from the Sunday Brunch Menu and my boyfriend went for the full Scottish breakfast. This is where Tibo loses a star. Although tasty, the "stack" of French toast was less a stack more three tiny bits of bread. However, my boyfriend had no complaints about his dish which was generously portioned and set him up for the day nicely. Our pot of tea, served in china patterned with Oriental designs, was so big we didn't even finish it. And there is nothing I hate more than wasting a good tea. The service was excellent; our Northern Irish waitress was attentive and personable. Tibo is child friendly and had excellent changing facilities in the ladies' toilet.

I'm fortunate to call Tibo my local and I've been going regularly since I moved here over 2 years ago. I've probably tried just about everything on the menu ;) French toast with bacon and maple syrup is a firm breakfast favourite! Their home made Victoria sponge cake with a pot of tea is fabulous for a mid afternoon treat and the daily specials are always worth looking out for. I personally don't think you can go wrong with one of the burgers and rustic chips are always a winner for me. There's a relaxed feel to the place and the staff are friendly, though they're not always the quickest. But if you're looking for quick and snappy, you'd be better off heading a hundred yards or so along Duke Street to Coia's. It's the kind of place where you're made to feel just as welcome whether you go in alone with a book for an afternoon coffee, or with a group of friends for a meal.

An eclectic and inviting joint that's equally at home as a mid afternoon coffee house/ lunchery or evening retreat for some excellent grub. With a genuine bohemian feel to the place assisted by the excellent array of odd painting and differing photo pieces, relaxed music and comfortable decor, Tibo is clearly in the wrong part of town. Copy and paste this joint to the west end and you have an institution in the making. Keep it here and you have a host a very grateful locals who revel in the existence of a establishment that does more than baked potatoes, cheese toasties and chips n cheese. Add brownie points to the already burgeoning pro column for the inclusion of free wifi and you have yourself a pretty awesome place to chill out, munch or dine if your in the Dennistoun area..

I love this place so much that I have to stop in the middle of my vacation just to write this…read morereview! Love their food but what I love even more, is how they help to feed the homeless and/or those in need. Whether you're a paying customer or someone in need, EVERYONE EATS THE SAME SOUP! Bravo!!! The Wild Olive Tree is located on Nelson Mandela's Place, inside the St. George's Tron Church of Scotland. The lovely cafe is on the main level. You walk in and get seated for table service; or you can order takeout. This is not a Soup Kitchen per se, but if you're a person of need, you can enter via a side door for free soup and hot beverages to go. They have been in operation since 2015, and in their first three years of operation, have given away 12,000 meals and 13,500 hot beverages! Again, BRAVO!!! All profits and donations from the Cafe go to their two charity partners: Glasgow City Mission and Bethany Christian Trust, to support their ongoing work with some of the city's most vulnerable people. The charities also help with work placement and employability training. How awesome is that?!?! The team at The Wild Olive Tree consists of paid staff, volunteers and work placements. This team of people are awesome! The food is homemade and delicious, customer service is so friendly, and they're so thankful for your visit. If I lived in Glasgow, I'd be a regular customer for sure! If you're ever in Glasgow (down the block from George Square), please stop by for a gigantic bowl of delicious homemade soup and scones...you'll be so glad you did!

They're about the same size and always packed, and huzzah, their sandwiches are delicious at both locations. I had walked by a few times the day I finally popped in for a late lunch, as they were swamped the whole lunch rush. I managed to squeeze in to the queue around 2pm and I could tell they had just been through the ringer with the lunch crowd. The guy ahead of me wanted a chicken tikka sandwich but they were out of a couple of the ingredients, so he ordered something else. When it was my turn to order, the guy jokingly said 'let's see if I'm able to make your sandwich!" I ordered the Chiken Ole which was chicken meat, manchego cheese, chorizo, salsa and a spicy mayo on ciabatta. The only one thing they didn't have was the salsa, which in exchange they offered me a bit of salad with some sweet chili sauce. I decided against the sauce and took the salad! What a delightful sandwich this was. My stomach is growling just thinking about it! The bread was freshly baked and so delicious, even at 2pm. The ingredients were all fresh and piled high in to the bread. I also grabbed a bag of crisps and a lemon mint san pellagrino. The greatest lunch on the go I've had in a long while. The guys in here were cool as anything and the music was great. The queues might be long but the sandwiches are worth it. They also serve soups, coffee and baked goods if you're looking for something sweet. I will be back for sure!

After wandering around Paperchase for quite a while, and I mean a while, I had completely forgot…read morethat there's more upstairs and also a Tinderbox. I've visited the other two branches and I've always enjoyed what they've had on offer. I had been a busy wee bee in town and decided a cheeky wee break was needed. It's located at the window, so you can watch the busy town goers whizz on by. I noticed that they had 'Not Coffee' options, so for me a non-coffee drinker, I wiz pure like yas. We're a rare breed so it was nice to see so many options available and not only in hot drinks but in frapps as well. A Steamer, hot flavoured milk drink, was on the menu so I ordered it in caramel. Didnae get me pure steaming but definitely heated me up. Hehe!! I also had a chocolate type croissant thang, I can't remember it's proper name but it was delicious. The staff were spot on, I got my Steamer at the end of the counter and found myself a comfy seat and enjoyed. A nice environment in town for a treat and to gives the legs a wee rest.

This Tinderbox, situated on the 1st floor of Paperchase, is now my go-to coffee shop if I am in this part of town and looking for a cafe that is cosy (and pretty cool) to sit in. Another thing I like about this particular Tinderbox is that it stays open until 7pm (8pm on a Thursday) most nights, which is really good for a coffee shop as most seem to shut much earlier. There's a reasonable amount of varied seating ~ you can choose cosy booths, high up table, wee lower table, a sofa or window tables. The window tables seem to be the most popular as they have a cracking view down onto Buchanan Street below. Also they have a good mix of small and larger tables too. The shop itself is very bright, colourful & mostly pretty jumpin' so this isn't maybe the best coffee shop to sit in with a hangover or to sit quietly with a book...although I'm sure at certain times of the day it does quieten down a wee bit. Staff are always friendly and helpful. One day after only taking 1 sip of my flat white I accidentally (clumsily) spilled it all over the table (ooft), I felt so daft & had to ask a staff member for a cloth to clean it up to which she thankfully laughed at (in a knowing, 'we've all been there' kinda way) and then swiftly came over to clean up, before I even got a chance to apologise (again) she said 'Flat white wasn't it? With soya milk? I'll get another straight over to you' Wow. That was SO nice of her. Not only did she get me another coffee (For FREE; I didn't expect them too!) but she also remembered/knew what I was drinking when it wasn't even her that had took my order! I was mightily impressed. THAT is really good customer service. The choice of coffees/drinks here is really good ~ there's something for everyone, be they a coffee drinker or not. I stick to the (soya) flat whites or cappuccino's as they're my favourites. Soya milk is also at no extra cost which I like. On a more aesthetic note I rather like their take-away cups ~ they're a corrugated cardboard of various shades (depending on which size you have) with 'Joe To Go' written on them. I like this as it reminds me of Agent Dale Cooper from Twin Peaks every time I read it :-) Food wise I have only ever partaken in the sweet treats here. Everything looks yummy but I can recommend the Empire Biscuits, Portuguese Custard Tarts and the cakes (cupcakes). All very tasty. Since they have introduced the bonus of a cheeky free coffee every 7 days for any Paperchase card holders I have been in here more than ever. It's a great idea and it really has made me visit here & buy more stationary than I normally would have! Haha! Clever clever people...
