Classic Scottish Pub atmosphere, but huge in an old stately bank. The location on George's Square, the huge bank domed ceiling, mixed with smaller wood paneled rooms full of portraits of James watt, Lord Clyde, Lord Kelvin, Sir Walter Scott, etc mixes well with the worn upholstered chairs, high and low wood tables, booths, and huge center bar where you put your order in to be delivered to your numbered table. I'm not a huge fan of Scottish food (sorry, except a good fish and chips), so 4 instead of 5;). Devoured my warm chocolate cake and ice cream though!

We were from out of town and looking for a nearby place to have breakfast before heading to the airport. A local pointed us to this place and I realized after seeing the menu and set up I was at the sister location of The Booking Office in Edinburgh just a few days before. I was happy with my mail there so I expected the same here, sadly that was not the case. My Smoked Salmon Benedict came out very quickly but my fellow diners had to wait on their food. Two others got their food more than five minutes later and they said it was room temperature and somethings even cold. My other friend didn't get her simple avocado English muffin until I went to inquire what happened to it. Not a good experience here.

Meh, this place is okay. I came here on a Sunday and it was very crowded. Was able to find a table but it was terribly dirty and didn't get cleaned the entire time we were there. Ordering at the bar took forever as the guy who was manning the POS terminal where I was waiting with a few other people just disappeared and never came back. Once the order was placed, the food came rather quickly and a guy who worked there was nice enough to give me a lot of napkins so I could clean off the table to some extent since it was sticky with the spilled beer of the prior occupants. The food was mediocre. It wasn't offensive but it was a notch below what you'd expect at an Applebees in the US. The building itself was very cool. Apparently it was an old bank so it was very grand looking and I enjoyed that aspect, but I don't think I'd come back. I prefer clean places when I am eating and this place was just kind of grungy.

Another Wetherspoons establishment, the Counting House is a refurbished Bank of Scotland turned restaurant in Glasgow. It's close to George Square across the way and down the street from Jamie's Italian. I made my way over here to meet up with the rest of my tour group who had dinner here for a quick drink. I ordered a half pint of Strongbow cider and they only charged me £1.40. Not bad! I can't say much for the food as I didn't dine here but from the looks of things, the plates are gigantic and cheap. The place was full to the brim when I arrived and it was humming with chatter from the patrons. I really liked the decor and some of my friends had dinner in a converted bank vault. Super cool. This place is great for large groups. Most Wetherspoons have extensive menus with affordable pricing so if that's what you're looking for, check it out.

A Wetherspoon chain restaurant located by St George Square and Queens Station. Great prices for pub grub and breakfast. Unlimited self serve coffee and tea. Order online and they will bring your food to the table. Nice open decor in a historic building. I always recommend this place to stop and get settled if you're just getting off of the train!

I'm and unashamed fan of the Counting House. The huge glazed dome above the bar is stunning and you can even take a peek into one of the bank vaults from the days before it was a pub! It's full of interesting architectural features and is perhaps more interesting than the usual Wetherspoons venue for that. I've not eaten at this branch, but its a favourite pre-dining meet-up spot or a good place to rest the weary feet after some serious retail therapy. Yesterday was a combination of both and on a dreary cold Wednesday afternoon the place was packed to the rafters. My favourite spot is the traditional pub booths (through the main door from George Square and turn right) where we can spread out our bags and have our own wee private spot. As usual with Wetherspoons pubs, the ales are well kept and very keenly priced. Yesterday they seemed to be doing a roaring trade in jugs of cocktails, a sure sign that the festive season is almost upon us. I'm not saying this place is the best Glasgow has to offer, but it has a bit of character and it won't break the bank! PS The cheap and cheerful pub grub menu includes vegetarian, vegan and gluten free options.

I love the space and the many nooks and crannies you can hide and enjoy some peace from the usually bustling bar The prices are not cheap for alcohol even though it's a weatherspoons Foods the general stuff you can get in ever other rweatherspoons, mass produced and cheap The location right on George square is very handy for a place to grab a quick drink and meet friends

If you ever end up at The Counting House, the best procedure is to look up at the ceiling for a minute or so, revel in it's splendour, then walk back out the door. As a drinking hole, despite the attractive interior it somehow feels even duller than your average Wetherspoons, and even when packed to the rafters as it often is, has less atmosphere than the surface of the moon.

Classic Wetherspoons. One of the many in Glasgow Cheap booze with reduced prices on selected liquors. Good foreign beer selection and a wide changing varieties of real ales. Good wine selection as well. Food is microwave-in-the-bag type of preparation. It is reasonably priced and filling but it is exactly the same menu across the country. The standard Wetherspoon policy of "No Music" means that conversations are easily held and no televisions makes these pubs a welcome respite during sporting event days. The decor is astounding in this Glasgow landmark. Wetherspoons restored this building after the interior had been covered up by its previous inhabitants for decades. The domed ceiling is worth a look and this pub has replaced the Corinthian as the most architecturally beautiful drinking establishments in Glasgow The central location of this pub (close to Central and just outside Queen St) makes it a great place to meet up before an evening. Make you state where you will be before the evening starts since find people in the myriad of rooms can be difficult. It will pack out early, but if you hang about tables will become available as the crowd changes out. The service normally is quick and efficient despite the crowds around the bar, however, the last time I was there they had changed the staff and the first-timers were having me spell Pilsner. Hopefully, they are back up to speed. The premises were previously owned by the Bank of Scotland. The building was designed for the bank by J T Ruchead, between 1867 and 1870. His design, in the Italian Renaissance style, set the tone for the west end of George Square.

Taking a tour around Glasgow for the day, a friend and I decided to pop in to The Counting House for some cheap eats. He had been here before, but this being my first time, I was intrigued to say the least. The building itself is grand and gorgeous, the seating is a bit sporadic; the chairs and tables seemed to be just as old as the building. The scene on a Monday afternoon was that of an old mans pub, literally with loads of pensioners and woman with prams. Luckily we found a seat among the crowd and had a look over the menu. The strange thing about this place is that once you decide what you want to eat, you then need to go to the bar to order your food as there is no table service. Once your order is placed though, the food arrived at our table with lightning speed. My friend ordered the Tennessee burger that came with a honey BBQ sauce, and I ordered the 6 oz gourmet burger that came with Stilton and bacon on it. The prices really can't be beat for what you get. For just over £6, you can get a burger, chips, onion rings and a soft drink. Not too shabby when my friend and I try to eat on a university students budget! The only real negative about the burger was the bun. After a few bites, the bun completely fell apart so much that we both ate our burgers with a fork and knife. All in all, not a bad place if you're looking for a quick bite in town on the cheap. The food menu is quite extensive and the booze menu is even bigger! I'm sure my friends and I will be back!

Probably my favourite of the City Centre Wetherspoons. It's in a good location, with a pleasant interior. The menu for both food and drink is the same as any other Wetherspoons but I like this one because the bar is really big with decent service. They also have a new touchscreen Poker table device that I really fancy getting my hands on..

Excellent beer selection in a vibrant atmosphere. My first time in Scotland and I'm happy to find a place that offers such a great variety of good craft beer. I'm having a local scotch lager...tasty!

It's cozy, crowded, and buzzing with life -- often standing room only and packed shoulder-to-shoulder with locals and travelers alike. If you're a whisky fan (or even just whisky-curious), do yourself a favor and try one of their Scotland whisky flights. It's like taking a mini tour of the country's whisky regions without ever leaving your barstool -- and without worrying about driving. The bartenders really know their stuff and are happy to guide you toward something you'll love. A quick heads-up: no football colors allowed, which keeps the atmosphere friendly and relaxed no matter who you support. And speaking of friendly -- the locals here are as welcoming as they come. This is exactly the kind of place where Scotland's famous pub culture shines. Prices are surprisingly reasonable too, so you can sample a few drams without feeling guilty. Whether you're a seasoned whisky nerd or just looking to experience the local vibe, this is the spot. Pull up a stool (if you can find one) and enjoy a proper Scottish night out

Their selection is so huge they don't have a menu, you just have to ask for your label or take their recommendations. Naturally, most of the selection is Scottish whiskey, but if you somehow prefer otherwise, (say you are a local tired of Scotch... or just want to reaffirm nothing beats a Scotch?) they do offer whiskey from other countries, as well as beer and ciders, as well as gin, rum and the like. They do offer pies and other bar food, but we went after dinner and just couldn't stomach more food, tempting as they may sound.

Well, they did give us a splendiferous spread with copious plates of delicious food to try. In January they had a Winter Sale on with some meals available at £4 and £5 so decided to take advantage of this with my bestie and fellow Yelper Angela B. As a result I ended up with a taste tantalising wee mac and cheese topped with bacon bits including a wee bucket of chips. Not bad for a fiver. Boom! I've also frequented for drinks and they have an excellent bar selection, there's even some cheeky fruit beers in there. Yay! I would highly recommend popping in for a wee swally or a sit down meal within the designated dinning area. It's pretty, it's relaxing and the music is pretty good with some 90's indie beats to tickle your ear drums. Other music probably plays at other times. It's also bang smack right in the middle of town so super handy but ladies beware of the icy blast of the hand-drier in the toilets. Ice burns beware! Please note, not in the Urban Dictionary sense. I opted for the taster plank - 1 third of a pint of three different ales, served in a plank with the beer names written on. That in itself is a great touch, a few places don't identify which beer is which. I had a Casear Augustus from Williams Brothers, a Fake Lager from Brewdog and a Witless IV from Red Willow Brewery - as you can see, there's a great range to choose from and the staff were really helpful and knowledgeable about them all. While I was looking around and supping my drinks (the Witless was the pick of the bunch, fact fans!) I noticed the menu. I knew that The Raven were offering food, but wasn't too sure what. Looking at the menu, it looked pretty nifty so I figured I'd just eat here, and I was glad I did! The food is BBQ based - low and slow smoked pork, burgers, ribs, that sort of thing. There's been an explosion of this kind of food in Glasgow recently, I perhaps lay the blame at the feet of Adam Richman and Man vs. Food (my dream job too, it has to be said) but I'm not complaining! I opted for a pulled pork burrito with a side of spicy cheesy fries, and at £9 for the two, it was a steal. They arrived quickly, the fries in a basket and the burrito served on a platter. I was given cutlery before the food arrived, and what looked like a carrying case full of sauces, salt, pepper, kitchen roll and a great sight, a wet wipe! A great thing to have when eating what is esssentially finger food! There wasn't a long wait at all for the food; The burrito was lovely, really filled to the brim and fresh - but the spicy cheesy fries were stunning. Covered in jalapenos, cheese and a smoky, spicy BBQ sauce, they were quickly devoured. I could honestly have had a second helping of those on their own. A great first impression here, not just for the great food, but for the really helpful and friendly staff, and the attention to detail that the whole place shows. It's somewhere that I can see me returning to time and time again.

The overall flavor really grows on you . It reminds me of like a Neapolitan shake ( heavy on the chocolate and strawberry and no vanilla ice cream ) with a crap ton of added fermented strawberries and maraschino cherries and maraschino cherry syrup . If I was the chef I'd tweak this by adding a rum flambé banana slice or just banana in general would be so nice .
