I particularly like the use of old railway carriage luggage racks on the mezzanine walls. We were a group of three on a Saturday night (We're did have a reservation though), and were met promptly at the door and immediately asked about dietary requirements almost before we sat down. This attentive service remained throughout the meal, even though they only had two staff on duty. Pretty soon I was trotting into a deliciously creamy vegan soup (coconut cream, sweetcorn and cucumber, I think?), followed by sea bass with roast potatoes - they have her a pepperonata sauce as I'm non- dairy compliant, washed down with a huge bottle of Albariño wine. Then for dessert, a rhubarb meringue with raspberry sorbet (for me), and a glass of Pedro Ximinez to finish. Excellent food, exceptional service, and the bill was around £120 for the three of us, which I though was pretty reasonable. We'll be back soon!

Service was friendly and helpful and efficient and even though the menu was seemingly concise each of the dishes appears to be thoughtfully created and masterfully executed. I started with a Spanish rioja which was delicious. My starter was the scallops and the portion was generous and nicely seared with a middle eastern style presentation. My main was the lamb rump - which doesn't sound like a cut I'd gravitate to but it proved to be an ample portion and a nice serving. Once again with a middle eastern twist and every item on the plate made sense, was complimentary and nicely executed. I was too full for desert but those around me ordered and everything coming out of the kitchen looked equally delicious, generously portioned and all I saw were happy smiling faces and empty plates going back to the kitchen. The interior is classy and dark and has an "old money" feel in a good way. It's downstairs and you feel like you are entering somewhere secret and discrete. The only bad thing is they had the heat cranked UP when we went. It was so hot down there I didn't know how some of the staff were running around in long sleeves, I had to keep going outside to get some nice chilly air to take a break from all the heat. The food was 5 stars but the heat did make the experience not pleasant. Spring White Negroni: Gin, white vermouth, limoncello. Nice, cool, and refreshing in that hot, hot dining area, lol. New Style Sashimi: Salmon, bass, and scallops. Basically a crudo topped with furikake and slices of ginger. We thought this was overly sauced and a very unjapanese way to eat Sashimi so it was too far of a departure for us. Local Lindisframe Rock Oysters: Excellent, sweet and not too large, these you have to eat fast because of the heat. You can see the ice melting and fusing in the picture and I took that picture as soon as it was brought out! King Prawn Noodle Salad: This was SO good, our whole family loved it. If we come back we would definitely order this again. Wild Halibut with cabbage, peas, pancetta, and charred asparagus. Perfectly cooked but the sauce was too rich and creamy for us. Fish Soup: crabmeat, ginger, and prawn dumplings. Good bowl, would taste better on a cold day.

The standard of the food is outstanding, the service is impeccable, they have a small but select wine list and a good cocktail menu. All in a relaxed and not overcrowded atmosphere. It's been too long since we'd visited, but it was just as good as we remembered. I had the tuna sashimi to start - which unexpectedly came with chopsticks - while Herself went for the tuna tartare. Both absolutely delicious, melt-in-the-mouth good. For mains, it was the halibut and scallops for her; I tried the monkfish, although with some slight trepidation over the banana, green lentil and chickpea sauce. I needn't have worried though, it wasn't a very strong curry and actually worked really well with the monkfish and the haddock. Just enough room to squeeze in a dairy-free sorbet for me - they had a lovely cucumber sorbet that was served with the tuna tartare, so I tried that. Herself can never resist a good cheese board, and this one was good (so I'm told). All in all, a fantastic meal. So good that I completely forgot to take any pictures. The sad news is that Derek, the owner is apparently planning to retire and is looking for someone to take over the business, so my advice is to get in there quickly before he's gone. The coffee is amazing, and the staff who make it are friendly. Try any of the sandwiches! This little cafe may be a bit out of the way of the heart of the West End, but it's 100% worth the short walk.

Now, for a cafe in the west end the prices are very reasonable perhaps even cheap. Staff were friendly and there was a nice buzz about the place with cheesy 80s music playing in the background. In all honesty I'd struggle to find a better sandwich or coffee in the city, so for that reason, top marks.

I've only visited on a couple occasions, firstly to sample their latte, and then a second visit to try out the excellent value breakfast deal at just £3. The breakfast deal consists of a very generously filled, freshly baked ciabatta roll with either bacon, sausage or egg and a coffee of your choice. The ciabatta's are nice and warm, fresh out of the oven in the morning and are very generously filled. Coffees are well prepared using Portioli beans, a very good and reputable coffee brand over in Italy. My only slight complaint perhaps was that my coffee was slightly on the weak side. I think they would benefit from using a smaller cup which means the espresso would be less diluted. Cafe Milano also does pizza slices, sandwiches and soups over the lunchtime period and is an excellent little place to hide away if you need a break from the office. They also make very good use of the space inside with several tables and booths installed. A nice little gem in the city center, if you can find it however!

That's exactly what we got. We walked to the Chip after visiting the relatively nearby Kelvingrove Museum. It's in a not-too-touristy area with tons of nearby restaurant options and hidden in a little alley (or "close") off Byres Road. There are multiple "venues" within Ubiquitous Chip - 2 bars (The Corner and The Wee...) We ended up at the Wee ahead of our reservation time, and the bartender guided us well with a dram after asking for something he thought was great that we'd have a more difficult time getting back in the States. (Ledaig). Both bars were pretty packed, so we wandered back and forth between the 2 until a spot finally opened at the Wee Pub. Our reservation was for the main dining room (not the Brasserie). There was a lot for us to enjoy as vegetarians. We rolled our own tasting menu with a plate of Scottish cheeses (typically a dessert item on Scottish menus, but we stand by the legitimacy of cheese for dinner). All 5 cheeses were vegetarian (ie no rennet) and served with a nice chutney and 2 different types of in-house-made crackers. It was delightful. We also had the BBQ Carrots dish...it's two carrot chunks, soft-cooked, charred on the outside, served on a delicious bed of sauces with a lovely Indian curry vibe. We got a salad with honey mustard dressing, fennel and shaved celery...it was very fresh and a nice counterpoint to the cheese and carrots. We also got potatoes, which were topped with creme fresh and light herbs. The potatoes were a little dry and light on flavor, but dipped in the creme and also in the leftover sauce from the carrots dish, they did the job. Service was stellar and friendly. Dining in the main restaurant makes you feel like you're outside. There are live plants everywhere, and a ceiling made up of windows like a greenhouse. You can see the brasserie, the more casual restaurant, on the second level (though, honestly, the main restaurant didn't feel unnecessarily stuffy like some fine dining restaurants. This was the perfect place for us to have a final meal in Scotland with plenty of food, drink and friendly service that left the perfect taste in our mouths.

One was meat, one was carrot, one was potato. You could never guess by description or photo but it was great since I was looking for traditional Irish food. It was farther from our hotel but worth the recommendation by our concierge. A bottle of rose for us was 30 pounds. Easy. Service was only okay for us. Food and atmosphere stood out.
