Lovely place with friendly staff. Cats are well cared for and given plenty of freedom. The facility gives them many places to hide, jump, climb and play as they please. We had a lot of fun! My only gripe is that the music was really loud. Some of the cats were clearly upset with this. Lower volume, with more chill songs would make for a much better environment. I also don't think the bell to get our attention was necessary. Please consider this! Cheers

Wanting a "cat fix" far away from our two kitties at home, we visited the Purple Cat Cafe for breakfast one morning during our visit to Glasgow. The facility houses 29 friendly felines who are ready to play, nap, and cuddle with visitors. We enjoyed seeing the variety of cats. The cappuccinos we ordered were delicious, and the grilled cheeses (mine with vegan cheese) were your standard cafe fare. The cats here aren't up for adoption, but the Purple Cat Cafe does support CATFLAP, a local rescue. If you visit, be sure to book ahead online because slots fill up often.

This is a cafe with 29 cats in residence. If you're not okay with cats, don't go. Otherwise if you're needing some time with a feline, this is your spot. I can't comment on the food; we just had some tea. You can order tea with cakes- "Afternoon kittea." And there are other lunch-type items. But you're more interested in the cat situation, so here it is: They have scheduled one-hour sessions. If you reserve a session online you save 2GBP per person, but you can just turn up, as we did, and if they have room you're fine. The main rule is no picking up the cats. I guess that's because if you do it wrong you can injure or at least irritate the cat enough to provoke a painful response. And no one wants that. Otherwise you're good to walk up to them wherever they are and give them some attention. The place is full of cat-friendly furniture, toys, and places for them to hang out. The vibe is college (or uni) coffee shop. Stuffed sofas, mismatched furniture; all the staff appear to be about 20 years old. Books for swap and board games if you're not so interested in the cats. The one negative is the smell. With that many cats, I suppose it can't be avoided. But the ammonia-kitty litter smell did make it difficult for me to have much of an appetite for more snacks. So if you're going to open a cat cafe, invest in the best HVAC you can afford. Still, a memorable experience, one that I would repeat if I'm back in Glasgow someday.

This was the most comfortable and homey experience I have ever had with a cat cafe! Plus, the cakes are surprisingly delicious!

Love their food but what I love even more, is how they help to feed the homeless and/or those in need. Whether you're a paying customer or someone in need, EVERYONE EATS THE SAME SOUP! Bravo!!! The Wild Olive Tree is located on Nelson Mandela's Place, inside the St. George's Tron Church of Scotland. The lovely cafe is on the main level. You walk in and get seated for table service; or you can order takeout. This is not a Soup Kitchen per se, but if you're a person of need, you can enter via a side door for free soup and hot beverages to go. They have been in operation since 2015, and in their first three years of operation, have given away 12,000 meals and 13,500 hot beverages! Again, BRAVO!!! All profits and donations from the Cafe go to their two charity partners: Glasgow City Mission and Bethany Christian Trust, to support their ongoing work with some of the city's most vulnerable people. The charities also help with work placement and employability training. How awesome is that?!?! The team at The Wild Olive Tree consists of paid staff, volunteers and work placements. This team of people are awesome! The food is homemade and delicious, customer service is so friendly, and they're so thankful for your visit. If I lived in Glasgow, I'd be a regular customer for sure! If you're ever in Glasgow (down the block from George Square), please stop by for a gigantic bowl of delicious homemade soup and scones...you'll be so glad you did!

They're about the same size and always packed, and huzzah, their sandwiches are delicious at both locations. I had walked by a few times the day I finally popped in for a late lunch, as they were swamped the whole lunch rush. I managed to squeeze in to the queue around 2pm and I could tell they had just been through the ringer with the lunch crowd. The guy ahead of me wanted a chicken tikka sandwich but they were out of a couple of the ingredients, so he ordered something else. When it was my turn to order, the guy jokingly said 'let's see if I'm able to make your sandwich!" I ordered the Chiken Ole which was chicken meat, manchego cheese, chorizo, salsa and a spicy mayo on ciabatta. The only one thing they didn't have was the salsa, which in exchange they offered me a bit of salad with some sweet chili sauce. I decided against the sauce and took the salad! What a delightful sandwich this was. My stomach is growling just thinking about it! The bread was freshly baked and so delicious, even at 2pm. The ingredients were all fresh and piled high in to the bread. I also grabbed a bag of crisps and a lemon mint san pellagrino. The greatest lunch on the go I've had in a long while. The guys in here were cool as anything and the music was great. The queues might be long but the sandwiches are worth it. They also serve soups, coffee and baked goods if you're looking for something sweet. I will be back for sure!

I've visited the other two branches and I've always enjoyed what they've had on offer. I had been a busy wee bee in town and decided a cheeky wee break was needed. It's located at the window, so you can watch the busy town goers whizz on by. I noticed that they had 'Not Coffee' options, so for me a non-coffee drinker, I wiz pure like yas. We're a rare breed so it was nice to see so many options available and not only in hot drinks but in frapps as well. A Steamer, hot flavoured milk drink, was on the menu so I ordered it in caramel. Didnae get me pure steaming but definitely heated me up. Hehe!! I also had a chocolate type croissant thang, I can't remember it's proper name but it was delicious. The staff were spot on, I got my Steamer at the end of the counter and found myself a comfy seat and enjoyed. A nice environment in town for a treat and to gives the legs a wee rest.

This Tinderbox, situated on the 1st floor of Paperchase, is now my go-to coffee shop if I am in this part of town and looking for a cafe that is cosy (and pretty cool) to sit in. Another thing I like about this particular Tinderbox is that it stays open until 7pm (8pm on a Thursday) most nights, which is really good for a coffee shop as most seem to shut much earlier. There's a reasonable amount of varied seating ~ you can choose cosy booths, high up table, wee lower table, a sofa or window tables. The window tables seem to be the most popular as they have a cracking view down onto Buchanan Street below. Also they have a good mix of small and larger tables too. The shop itself is very bright, colourful & mostly pretty jumpin' so this isn't maybe the best coffee shop to sit in with a hangover or to sit quietly with a book...although I'm sure at certain times of the day it does quieten down a wee bit. Staff are always friendly and helpful. One day after only taking 1 sip of my flat white I accidentally (clumsily) spilled it all over the table (ooft), I felt so daft & had to ask a staff member for a cloth to clean it up to which she thankfully laughed at (in a knowing, 'we've all been there' kinda way) and then swiftly came over to clean up, before I even got a chance to apologise (again) she said 'Flat white wasn't it? With soya milk? I'll get another straight over to you' Wow. That was SO nice of her. Not only did she get me another coffee (For FREE; I didn't expect them too!) but she also remembered/knew what I was drinking when it wasn't even her that had took my order! I was mightily impressed. THAT is really good customer service. The choice of coffees/drinks here is really good ~ there's something for everyone, be they a coffee drinker or not. I stick to the (soya) flat whites or cappuccino's as they're my favourites. Soya milk is also at no extra cost which I like. On a more aesthetic note I rather like their take-away cups ~ they're a corrugated cardboard of various shades (depending on which size you have) with 'Joe To Go' written on them. I like this as it reminds me of Agent Dale Cooper from Twin Peaks every time I read it :-) Food wise I have only ever partaken in the sweet treats here. Everything looks yummy but I can recommend the Empire Biscuits, Portuguese Custard Tarts and the cakes (cupcakes). All very tasty. Since they have introduced the bonus of a cheeky free coffee every 7 days for any Paperchase card holders I have been in here more than ever. It's a great idea and it really has made me visit here & buy more stationary than I normally would have! Haha! Clever clever people...
