There are 75-100 wild horses on the sand dunes. The open air truck carries about twelve people. We wore seat belts because the trucks rolling in the sand gets very bumpy. Our driver, Gator, talked to us and answered our questions. I suggest he get a portable microphone so everyone can hear him, and the talk will be more informative. We drove up near the Virginia state line looking for horses. The tour last two hours. We enjoyed it.

We hopped in the modified Ford F-250 with outdoor seating and drive to the beach. Immediately we passed two wild Spanish Mustangs taking a stroll down the beach. Then we must have seen 40 more throughout the tour. We all loved it - it was more than just looking at horses, the drive down the sandy beach in the tour truck was an adventure in itself. Many of the horses were in the yards of the beach houses. The guests and residents here know the horses are the true land owners and the people are the ones permitted to be there :). FYI - it is a two hour tour. Half way through they stop at a park for a bathroom break and a leg stretch. We also brought a cooler with food and drinks.

The top down, music blasting, 4wd beach ride was so much fun! The backseat was actually comfy, I am 6'4" and with the front seat pushed up I was more than comfy. Tony (owner) was an effective communicator - the app worked fine and we meet him 35 minutes out in Duck to grab the buggy and drive up to the 4WD beach another 35 minutes away. The vehicle was a kick to drive. Top speed on the highway is @45 mph (Only a 4-speed) and in the sand we got it up to 35 mph. The 4WD beach is supper long (@23 miles) that you can drive on. We got about 7 miles in and turned around. The entire stretch of the drive found hundreds of parked 4-wheelers with their groups all engaged in various beach activities. Just remember that the speed limit is 15 mph where you can see people (which was most of the time). So build your expectations accordingly - this excursion is not one where you can get the full speed up, but there where stretches where you could throttle up and move around some sand! We needed to go a little further in where the dunes were located that allowed you to drive on them - but were already scheduled for a later event so didn't get that piece of the ride in. There where several wild horses We encountered countered along the way. Tons of friendly people waving at you, because the buggy is cool to look at. Miles of great beaches so bring your swim gear to stop (like we did) and take a dip. The buggy is a lIttle tight on rear leg room, but open and breezy. Remember - no power steering so be ready. Tony will meet you wherever you want with the buggy, but the closer to the end of Corolla the better. It is a hoot, completed a bucket list item for me and my three adult kids and I made another great memory in the Outer Banks- Summer 2020!

Sides are breakfast potatoes or a small fruit cup. The sandwiches are large! I had the rambler which had scrambled eggs, havarti, avocado, onions and yellow pepper. It was very crispy and tasty. The coffee was also good, but be sure to check out the Banana Dog coffee truck in the parking lot for delicious iced coffee drinks! The server was extremely friendly and had a great attitude. We rented a…read morebeautifully decorated, pet friendly townhouse steps away from the pool, Ocean grille Restaurant, OBX beach and shops. This community had it all. We never had to use the free Trolly service because we were close to it all. We usually bring bikes when we go away, but when I saw how close we were going to be using Google maps, we left the bikes home. The lighthouse was about a 15 minute walk and that might have been the only time I wished I had my bike. Not to worry, bike rentals are close by! Check in was at 4pm. We were able to stock up on food. About 3 miles from the house there is a Food Lion with anything and everything you could think of. (I was not walking there hahaha) When we arrived, the cleaning people were still there. They were nice and let us come in to start putting our groceries away. I think they could have done alittle better cleaning. There was alot of black mold on the floor of the shower that had just been renovated in 2018. How hard could it be to keep something only a year old still looking like new?! So another trip to Food Lion to get some mold and mildew remover and viola, clean and looking new again. You're welcome! My husband noticed some mold on the spare pillows in the closet, and my mother noticed the same thing on the pillows downstairs. I'm not one to pack extra pillows, nor do I like to waste time calling the realty office to put in complains and wait for someone to come scrub the shower or replace pillows. I treated this house like it was my own, cleaned what needed to be cleaned and since we didn't need the pillows, I let it go and reported it upon discharge. To the next family, I hope you got new pillows or brought your own. Again, you're welcome. The community has 3 pools, one is heated, and they also have a baby pool, perfect for the little ones. Downside, it closes at 7pm. It's summer and I had 3 teenagers with me. Push it to 8 please. The oceanfront grill has limited seating for dinner and closes around 9pm. I also noticed there were some events we missed because they were not on our calendar. So when you visit make sure you read everything posted by the pool in the resort, don't just look at your calendar in the welcome package. This was our first time in OBX and we absolutely loved it! It was a long drive from NY to NC so I'm not sure if we will drive there again.

I stayed at The Chesapeake with my work and their friends for a week getaway…read more This house is on the 4x4 beach and requires you to deflate your tires on a 4x4 vehicle (tons of fun)! Up one arrival, you notice the jaw dropping size of this rental/wedding venue! When you enter the house, you are quickly amazed by the giant double sided bar with a shuffleboard, fooseball table, and an electronic darts game. On one side of the room, there is a bathroom with three sinks and three individual stalls. Next to that, there is a makeshift gym (bring your own equipment). On the other side of the bar, there is an aquarium that looks into the theater with wall to wall surround sound. This floor connects you to the back patio/pool area. On the second floor, there is a chef's kitchen, a smaller kitchen, ginormous dining area, two patios, and a sitting room with a fire place. The third floor is the private honeymoon suite with a patio. This house has two wings with a first and second floor. All floors have a washer and dryer (4 washers and 4 dryers in the house total). There are 24 bedrooms in all and each bedroom had a full size bath, king sized bed, and a private patio overlooking the pool. Each wing has a bunk bed room sleeping 6 in each room. The back patio has two bars, two grills, two hot tubs, PLENTY of seating and lounge chairs, a ping pong table, a gated pool (about 5ft deep), and a large shaded area to host a wedding. This house is MASSIVE and apparently popular in the Outer Banks. Many of the 4x4 tours were stopping to talk about this house. This house is just a small walk away from the beach. This house includes almost everything you need. It has clean linens, towels, pillows, shampoo, conditioner, and lotion. It also has a full sized kitchen with 3 coffee makers, 4 dishwashers, tons of plates and silverware, pots/pans...it's fully stocked. All you need is food, body wash, laundry detergent, dishwasher detergent, paper towels, and maybe extra toilet paper as there is only one roll per room (though I did give everyone the idea to take some from the rooms that weren't being used). But that's not all! Don't no need to bring ice because there are a whopping 4 ice makers in the house as well as three refrigerators and two freezers. I can go on and on about how amazing this house is but I'll let the photos do the talking. And yes, there are wild horses in the beach!! It's a wonderful house if you can afford the whopping $29k for the week. Luckily, I was here for work and got to enjoy the beauty without spending a penny.
