Attended a wedding at Hummingbird House and it was lovely. The grounds were delightful even in winter so I can imagine how breathtaking they would be in the spring and summer months. The bridal suite was not only perfect for the bridal party to get ready but also to allow the blushing bride some alone time before the ceremony. The weather cooperated but the event staff were prepared with tents if the ceremony needed to be moved at the last minute. The bathrooms were even stocked with emergency essentials should they be needed. A few of the guests had mobility challenges and the rustic walkways and loose gravel did present a bit of a challenge for some, but otherwise zero complaints. read more

I don't think this review will do Hummingbird House and Danny the justice it deserves, both of which are amazing. I booked Hummingbird House 18 months prior to my wedding after my initial call with Danny without evening seeing the venue because I just knew from speaking to him and seeing photos online, it was going to be pure magic. Needless to say I was correct! The venue: A hidden gem right outside of Austin that feels like you're in California or Italy. The grounds are so beautifully kept year round, and you can just see the love that goes into keeping HH looking as lovely it does. My guests couldn't stop commenting on how beautiful it was. It's also a great way to cut back on floral costs because it's so gorgeous as is. Easy to get to from downtown and tons of parking. My husband and I, alongside our friends, loved the suites, and the reception tent is perfect for an intimate wedding like ours. The gardens create a peaceful, lush environment for your ceremony and cocktail hour.I also took my bridal portraits here in december, and I was still blown away by the beauty! Danny, the owner/planner: If you're lucky enough to get to work with Danny, please do it. I came into planning my wedding so unaware of what went into it, and Danny helped me every step of the way. This is a beautiful venue for a wedding. However, I'd like to talk about this as a guest. Almost the entire facility is paved with what looks like flagstone in photos. In reality, however, it isn't smooth and flat like most flagstone. It's like paved over rocks. The surface is very uneven and lumpy. After a lovely ceremony, the guests were left standing around the bar while the photos were taken and the dining area was readied. Some people's high heels were damaged from the rocky surface or else from the gravel pavement of the parking lot. For me, three days later, my feet are still sore from walking and standing on the rocks. Also, at ngitht, the parking lot only has one large light, and most of it is unlit. If you don't have a key fob that causes your car lights to flash, you might never find your vehicle. It's definitely not a facility that welcomes handicapped guests or participants, although the grounds are lovely, the staff ws courteous and helpful but they could make a few improvements in terms of comfort for attendees. read more

Hummingbird House stole my heart the as soon as we drove up! It's even more beautiful than the photographs....truly enchanting! We loved that the bridal suite had it's own mini salon seating and a fun, modern design that was great for photographs! The guys got their own room stocked with foosball, beer pong table, tv...great dude's space. The grounds are an absolute fairytale! A tropical paradise meets English garden. The way the nature guides you from one area to another provides a perfect setup and flow for the whole day. And there are so many secret nooks and crannies to sneak away to for stunning "secret garden" photographs! Courtney was an absolute dream to work with! SUCH a sweetheart and really knew how to put you at ease. She was so quick in returning communication via email and always willing to help. I hired her as the Day Of Coordinator and couldn't have been happier! She had everything under control, knew the space and how to manage everything coming and going, and also made sure I was calm and at ease. My husband and I just got married at the Hummingbird House and it exceeded our expectations. The garden atmosphere was absolutely beautiful; all our guests were raving about how well they choose and care for their plants. The weather was nice so our guests were able to eat and dance in the climate-controlled pavilion and also play lawn games and hang out at our photo booth outside. Hummingbird House was our first venue to tour and we wish it had been our last. We went to one other venue appointment because we did not want to be rude and cancel an hour before. That second place never stood a chance. Hummingbird House was our venue from the moment we got into the Bridal Suite and met Danny. I remember emailing him from the parking lot of that last venue asking him to send us the contract. We couldn't dare let anyone grab our date by wasting more time with other places. Even our puppy Vladimir loved it! We may be five months behind in our review, but my husband, Kai, and I had a better day than we could have ever imagined for our wedding. The weather was amazing, (I'm giving Courtney that credit) the venue was set up and arranged perfectly, and we never missed the important moments of our wedding thank to Courtney's ninja-like day of coordinating skills. She knew just when to be there to help us and when to let us sit back and soak it all in. Thank you to the amazing team. As a coordinator myself, I don't know how they do this with the small staff that they have. Goes to show that it's not about the number of staff members, rather, it's about the quality and heart of the people who work there. They do the work of 10 people on a daily basis and are in the business of ensuring perfection for their clients. I loved that there was so much space for guests to venture out into during the reception and how it didn't confine guests to one space. The ceremony area is so gorgeous that we didn't add many extra decorations. The AC in the reception area is the best touch during a summer wedding in Texas. Danny was our on-site manager and was the best and most fun to work with. He always met us with high energy, helpful suggestions and solutions. While Hummingbird House is beautiful, I regret hiring the staff to handle day-of coordination for our wedding. I could not, in good conscience, recommend the venue to another bride without giving a lengthy disclaimer explaining some of the issues we ran into leading up to and on the day of our wedding. -Although my mother, my fiance, a friend, and I all asked who would handle tear down, and all been told, without hesitation, that the venue staff would handle it and that we could pick up our decorations and stuff a day or two later, my mother was told, at 11:30 p.m. as the reception was ending, that we had to take everything down ourselves, and we had to have it out by 8 a.m. the next morning. They told my mom stuff couldn't be picked up later, because they had an event. I believe this was misleading at best, an outright lie at worst, as I got a call from a vendor the next morning, saying no one was there and he couldn't get in to pick up his equipment. To make this extra egregious, my mother was undergoing cancer treatment at the time of the wedding, which Danny and Lauren had been informed of in advance, as it had come up in multiple conversations leading up to the wedding. -I met with Lauren to set up a timeline for the rehearsal, rehearsal dinner, and wedding. She said she'd e-mail me the timeline. I did not receive it or the seating chart until I complained 6 weeks later. Then, we started hearing from vendors that she was telling them different times than we'd told them. The most egregious of this was that she moved the rehearsal dinner later in the evening after we had printed and mailed the invitations, which I had done only after meeting with her. -At multiple points, we were given inaccurate information that resulted in tremendous wastes of time or money. For example, we were told the venue had trash cans to put kegs in. We found out two days before the wedding that they didn't. We were given a very wrong seating chart, which meant that we did the whole seating chart then had to redo it because of coordinator error. -HH tried to force us to hire a security guard because we were serving alcohol, even though this was not mentioned in our contract and was never mentioned prior to us signing the contract. They dropped it when I cited the contract. -Lauren spoke negatively about me to the bakery making our cakes. When I confronted Danny about this, he told me they'd had me confused with another bride. This did not make me feel better, as I believe that speaking negatively about clients to their other vendors is inappropriate, period. -HH arranged for the flowers to be delivered to the venue so late that none of the formal photos of the bridal party or me include bouquets, as we did formal photos before the ceremony, at Danny's suggestion. -HH neglected to put out the literally thousands of rose petals I'd bought to decorate the aisle, despite the fact that these had been mentioned to Lauren multiple times leading up to the wedding, and she'd even advised me on how many to buy. They put them out later, for when we walked back out, but only after the maid of honor complained about the mistake. At this point, Danny said he hadn't known about them. I had assumed telling Lauren was adequate, since I'd been led to believe that making to-do lists and such was part of her job. -Announcements we'd requested were not made. The first dance was not announced at all. The cake cutting was announced only when I panicked that my mother wasn't there. Additionally, no one told the band that I wasn't changing my name (HH staff had assured me they'd handle this), so I was introduced as Mrs. NameIDidn'tTake. -Lauren snapped at multiple wedding guests. She also snapped at my friends who were helping set up the wedding -- especially appalling as HH had assured me they would handle ALL set up, but then didn't have adequate staff to do so. -Lauren asked if there was a bag or something I wanted put in the limo. I showed her a blue purse and paper sack I wanted, as they had my makeup, hairbrush, toothbrush, etc. She instead put in a black expanding file folder with all my wedding contracts, and a plastic bag that had my headpiece in it. This meant I had to deal with hosting a breakfast the next morning with no makeup. No deodorant. No hairbrush. Nothing. I still find it hard to believe she didn't do this intentionally. In summary, maybe HH is having growing pains and will improve with time, but I really wouldn't recommend risking it. Or, maybe they just hated me and give other couples great service. All I know is that I consider our choice of coordinators a huge mistake, and the errors they made and the rudeness encountered by my friends and guests has really detracted from what could have been an amazing day at a lovely place. read more

Everything about this venue is perfect. It's beautiful, easy to get to, close to a hotel, great tent to eat and dance under, and Courtney was amazing. Our wedding came out almost perfect. The one star rating is due to hummingbird house withholding extremely important information. Their neighbors are jerks. All throughout our would be beautiful wedding ceremony their neighbors were blasting party music and radio commercials. I heard a natural male enhancement commercial during my vows. We heard Danger Zone before the ceremony started and thought we could just run over there and ask them to turn off there music for a mere 20 min for our ceremony. I brought it up to Courtney and she nervously explained that this has happened before and if we attempted to ask them to turn down they would get upset and turn the music louder. My problem with this is that Courtney knew about this and never warned me. I could have offered te neighbors money or done something about avoiding the fiasco, but it seems hummingbird house was too concerned with collecting their small fortune from us. Not to mention they really hustle people out of that place at 11pm which is too early in my opinion and they shouldn't be so rude about it. Aside from our ceremony being ruined, we had a great time. I am posting this updated review after being contacted by a Mr. Tom T from Hummingbird house. In fact, to be fair, I will copy and paste the email that I received from him on February 12, 2012: "Diana, thank you so much for your feedback on Yelp. It was a real wake up call when I read the reviews from you and others about your experience at Hummingbird House. It ended with the termination of Lauren as we do not want our guests to be unhappy. I am hoping that you may consider re-posting or re-evaluating our venue as we had a 5 star average until this unfortunate incident, and we have made all the changes necessary to make sure it never happens again. As far as the restroom trailer, we are in the process of building new bathrooms so that it won't be a problem ever again." Though I highly appreciate his concern, I want to point out the DATE that this email was received. He sent it February 12, 2012. The wedding in question occurred in July of 2011. I think that we can all agree that 7 months is NOT taking "immediate action." Do not believe their claims when they say that they handled it immediately, because they did not. In fact, to this day (May 17, 2012), they really haven't done much to remedy anything in my opinion. I believe they have offered the bride and groom a small gift card. However, I do not believe that is sufficient. Here are my reasons why: 1) They took SEVEN MONTHS to even bother contacting the Bride. 2) Even then, they only did it because these reviews were affecting their business. 3) They should have acted IMMEDIATELY, not 7 months later. 4) They should have refunded the ENTIRE cost of their wedding coordinator, who ruined my friend's entire wedding. I know that Hummingbird House is pointing the fingers at Lauren, the wedding coordinator, for the awful service that we experienced. But what you must remember is that Hummingbird House HIRED Lauren to work for them and FORCED her services onto any one who used their venue. THEY were the ones who chose to hire someone incompetent. The Bride complained about this person months before the wedding and Hummingbird house kept implying, "don't worry. We trust her. It will all work out." Right. Now they are trying to put the blame entirely on the wedding coordinator, Lauren and pretend as though they had nothing to do with it. That isn't fair. THEY hired her. THEY vouched for her. THEY forced the bride to use her services and promised that everything would work out. The bride trusted them, and as a result, her wedding day was ruined. If I could give them zero stars, I would, because I do not think anyone should risk ruining their wedding day by going with this venue. Also, the fact that they waited 7 months to contact the bride to remedy the situation is ridiculous, unprofessional, and pointless. Is this venue beautiful? Yes, absolutely. But is it worth the risk? I was a bridesmaid at a wedding here in July. It really is a beautiful place to hold a wedding. However, working behind-the-scenes, I was really disappointed in the lack of professionalism here. The wedding coordinator, Lauren, was a problem all weekend. Ostensibly, all wedding setup was supposed to be taken care of, but members of the wedding party, as well as other family and friends, were running around like crazy the day of trying to get things together. Lauren was clearly not able to get the work done, and she was rude to all the people who were busy trying to help. She was snapping at people who were doing *her* job. The weekend was already stressful enough without her being nasty to everyone who was trying to make the day special. At one point, Lauren broke the topper for the groom's cake, which had been custom-made for the event. It was fixable, but repairing it before the ceremony was clearly not at the top of her priority list. She didn't do anything about it until the maid of honor put the fear of god in her. Although Hummingbird House really is gorgeous, being a part of an event here showed me that it wasn't worth it. I would never consider having an event of my own here. I'm sure there are places in the Austin area that are just as pretty, but have competent, polite staff. read more

Our wedding at The Hummingbird House was perfect in every way... I'm not sure where to start with my praise. First I will start with Danny. He is amazing. Kind, attentive, knowledgeable and easy-going while keeping an eye on every detail. We used Danny for day-of coordination as well, and recommend that 100%. My mom STILL talks about how sweet and charming he is. The venue itself is breathtaking. In fact, the only wedding decision I made almost as quickly as saying "yes" to my now-husband's proposal was to use The Hummingbird House as our venue. My husband loved it instantly, too. It's gorgeous, yet unassuming. Elegant, but not pretentious. Both rustic and sophisticated. We first toured it in the dead of winter and thought it was stunning... wait until everything is in bloom! We loved the freedom to use our own vendors, and Danny worked with all of them with the utmost professionalism. Every last need we had was accommodated... even the last minute, surprise ones. Everyone who attended our wedding had so much fun and felt right at home. There is lots of parking, a fantastic tent and dance floor and top of the line facilities for guests. Everyone kept asking us how we knew about the place... even life-long Austin locals were surprised by its existence. It's a lush, secluded garden oasis in South Austin that makes you feel miles away from anywhere, but it easily accessible from I-35. I really can not recommend The Hummingbird House enthusiastically enough. Our wedding was everything we wanted and more, and so much credit goes to Danny and his team at The Hummingbird House for helping us realize our wishes and providing a perfect venue as a backdrop. Ok--let's get one thing clear people: THE HUMMINGBIRD HOUSE IS AWESOME. I just had my beautiful wedding there on Saturday 5/12. It truly was an amazing experience for my new husband and I, as well as all of our guests. We were constantly complimented all evening about how beautiful it was and how well things flowed. Everything was perfect...and WORTH EVERY PENNY! Also, the old Lauren is out and the new Lauren and Courtney are in. They are wonderful along with Mr. Danny Hatt. They literally took care of everything for us. All the tables, all the coordination and packing of gifts and items at the end of the night. My family is old school and they were totally prepared to undress all the linens, pack gifts and carry out all the ceremony accessories. At the end of the night, Danny, Lauren, & Courtney had everything packed in the bridal suite to be picked up the next morning. Once the limo picked up me and my new husband, everyone was able to go home and relax, or in our case - keep the party going. We didn't have to worry about picking everything up until the next day. It was great, my parents are in their 60's so I was very grateful they could go home and rest. Danny completely put me at ease and was just great. Never unnecessarily stressed about anything, and took care of my last minute song of choice for my father/daughter dance and our last minute lineup for announcements. I know I'm biased, but our wedding was absolutely beautiful thanks to the gorgeous setting. Courtney was on top of things from the very beginning. Courtney was running 100 mph on the day of the wedding and was way ahead of the game. Any time I tried to remind her of something, she would tell me "I've got it. Go be a groom." After about the 3rd time I stopped asking and relaxed because I knew it was all taken care of. If you're looking for a wedding venue that cares about your vision and will work their hardest to make it a reality, you couldn't do any better than Hummingbird House. I have been working with Danny and Lauren on my wedding plans for the last eight months. They are *beyond* helpful, giving tips and answering all of my questions.....and boy, I sure do ask A LOT of questions! Lauren always provides a speedy and helpful response and always has a great and cheerful attitude. I have absolutely NO DOUBT that my wedding will be amazing, thanks in large part to the venue and the people who are running it! The venue itself is *gorgeous*. I have visited the Hummingbird House several times across several months this year and I have always been in awe of the beauty of the grounds. Even when I visited early in the year (after having many hard freeze nights which killed ALL of my landscaping at home) it was amazing! We celebrated our wedding here taken along the path by Courtney. Since we booked the place late last year we were treated always with a positive and can do attitude to all the stupid questions we had to ask. We received prompt responses to our multiple calls and emails. A run through all the preparation details showed that they really know how to throw a party. We provided our decoration (homemade) and shared out vision. We were amazed as how they carried out and how it surpassed our expectations. The place looked beautiful. Courtney was around and on top of things during the rehearsal, ceremony and reception. We just had to be there and enjoy. The level of professionalism, support, efficiency, and attention to detail they display is out of this world. Seriously. If I ever get rich and famous I will hire them in a heartbeat to be my managers. The venue is absolutely gorgeous and MUCH bigger than it looks from photos online. There is plenty of parking, a giant bridal suite, an almost-just-as-big groom's suite (located on the other side of the property so the bride and groom won't accidentally bump into each other), and everything's located on 1 property so guests don't need to travel in between the ceremony and reception (except to the bar). My sister's wedding was in the late Fall and mine was in mid Spring - the place looked incredible both times of the year. What you won't see on a daytime tour is how beautifully this place lights up at night. It's like a wonderland. Also - I believe you can book for many non-wedding events. The grounds are breathtaking, and every little detail really makes this place truly magical. Danny and Courtney are extremely professional, creative, and friendly. INCREDIBLE! This venue is romantic, gorgeous, perfect, amazing! I could go on and on. I got married here on 3/24/2018 and it was absolutely perfect. This was due in large part to Courtney! She works at the venue and for a little extra $ you can hire her as your day of coordinator. DO IT! I repeat, if you are getting married here, HIRE COURTNEY! The day of my wedding I was the calmest I had been during the entire year and a half planning process. She set up all of our decor and broke it down at the end of the night, dealt with our vendors, checked in with me to make sure I was alright, SHE WAS AMAZING! The Hummingbird House was such a wonderful place for my daughter's wedding. Danny and Courtney were amazing and extremely accommodating for everything we wanted. Food truck... no problem. Lawn games... no problem. Using our own caterer... no problem. We were worried about the weather since it had been raining like crazy, but it stopped shortly after we unpacked everything and we did not have to have the wedding inside. We were all very glad we had a good rain plan, however. All of the (10) bridesmaids were commenting that the bride/bridesmaids area was the best they had ever seen. Plenty roomy for all to get dressed and do makeup and hair. The groomsmen also had a nice, large area. As my husband and I were enjoying the wedding he mentioned that it looked like we spent 3 times what we did. We were on a very tight budget (for today's standards) and we were so happy that our daughter could have such an fabulous wedding. Many of the guests were talking about the beautiful venue, and my other daughter even mentioned that she might want to get married there. A big thank you to Courtney and Danny. They did not make it seem like it was all about the money, but gave the impression that they love what they do. read more

HUMMINGBIRD HOUSE IS AWESOME! My husband and I got married in April, and we couldn't have picked a more perfect place to spend the most important day of our lives. First off - the Venue itself: From the gorgeous, flowers to the perfect reception area, this place is incredible. I didn't spend much time in the groom's suite, but the bridal suite was huge! 3 full rooms to get ready in plus a large bathroom. One of the rooms is salon style which is a cute touch. In spring, the flowers are insane. I have also been at this venue for my sister-in-laws wedding in the fall and the venue was just as beautiful. The Staff: These people are the most caring and sincere individuals that I have ever met. Your big day can be stressful, and I didn't have to worry about a thing. We dropped of decorations the day before. By the day of, everything was perfect, and I didn't even have to think about it because it was all taken care of. I did have an incident where my florist (totally separate from this venue) was late, and Danny and Courtney at the Hummingbird House ran around making sure that no matter how late the florist was everything was still going to be perfect for our big day. From the time we walked in to get ready, to the moment we left in the limo, the staff was by our side helping us through every second. We rented out the venue for a brunch the following morning and they managed to between 11pm and 11am transform the venue into a gorgeous garden party setting for our family and friends. Since the wedding I have heard tons of comments about how it was the best venue people had ever been to and how the wedding ran so smoothly. This would not have been possible without the hard work of the staff at the Hummingbird House. Love this place and hope someone invites me to a wedding soon so I can go back! read more

Hummingbird is the most amazing garden setting for a wedding and at a fraction of the cost of most of the wedding sites my husband and I visited. The gardens are in bloom year-round and the team works together to keep the grounds, indoor and outdoor venues extremely well-kept... And that can be a hard thing to do in the Austin heat! It was the perfect setting for our wedding in late May :) In regards to the team, Danny and Courtney are simply fabulous! They assist throughout the planning process and act as day-of planners, going above and beyond to make your special event spectacular. They are great with communication (especially email) and follow-through, very thorough, and help each couple by reviewing vendor contracts so that you don't experience any unnecessary charges or take on additional stress. Just one look at the venue and you know this is a special place. An encounter with Danny and Courtney will let you know that it's run by a caring and exceptional team! read more

The Hummingbird House is an absolute jewel of a place. Perfect for any special occasion. There's plenty of room to socialize and the grounds are very lush and intimate. It's the perfect setting for getting married or falling in love. The owners are responsible and especially gracious, they are the perfect hosts. Going above and beyond the call of duty to make sure guests are well taken care of. It's no surprise the Hummingbird House was voted best Undiscovered Event Venue by the Austin Chronicle. I was married at the Hummingbird House earlier this year, and everything about the venue was AMAZING. My now-husband and I set out one day to look at several venues....and never made it past the Hummingbird House! We knew right away this was the place we wanted to get married. From the instant we got there, we were welcomed by Danny, who followed us all the way to the wedding day (and after!). He made sure all of my questions were answered, all of my ideas were welcomed, and that no detail was left behind. He was quick to respond to every email, which was so very appreciated. As we got closer to the wedding day, Lauren joined the Hummingbird House, and she was just as amazing as he. Just a couple days before the wedding, she helped us secure an awesome classic getaway car! She kept everyone in order, and took so much stress off my back. She and Danny kept things running so smoothly on the big day, and if something went wrong... I never knew about it. And the beauty of the venue?! Incredible. It is a hidden tropical oasis in Austin...with so many beautiful flowers, lush grass, a beautiful pool, and romantic sparkling lights. I had my wedding at the Hummingbird House November 26th. It was the most beautiful, perfect day of my life. Danny and Lauren were amazing and worked so hard to make my wedding beautiful. My friends always told me that expect at least one thing to go wrong on your wedding day, but I'm so lucky- it was perfect. I hired vendors that I trusted and were very professional. They worked really well with the HH, so Danny and Lauren didn't have to cover for others mistakes. The lawn and tent are gorgeous. Every time I needed something done before the wedding, Lauren and Danny were on it. I have divorced parents that don't communicate well with each other, and Danny and Lauren were patient to basically do everything twice. My guests said it was one of the top weddings they have ever been to, and all my family and friends keep talking about how amazing it was. I have nothing negative to say, and I am so happy I chose to go with the HH. I feel like I should respond a bit to the really bad reviews HH has below. I read over them a bit, and it sounds like that one wedding had some things really working against it- like the weather. Austin had one of the hottest summers in its history and was (and still is) in a bad drought. If you choose to get married outside in July you have to be prepared for 105 degrees. Tents don't have A/C. I got married outside in November for a reason- I didn't want my guests to have heat stroke. I understood an outdoor wedding is always a gamble with the weather. It could have been raining and very cold. My guests were a bit cold after the ceremony, but I hired caterers to make hot chocolate and coffee. Also, when you book a venue, you only get what you sign up for in the contract. The venue is not the caterer, florist, DJ/band, bakery, etc. You just rent the space and then add things in the contract. All vendors are not created equal. The Hummingbird House recommended some great vendors to me, and I'm so happy with them. They were so professional and did an amazing job. The beautiful garden setting was even more amazing than I ever expected. Obviously the venue's beauty speaks for itself... We got an opportunity to work with all of the staff during our 10 month planning & special day. They were the nicest people & made sure everything went according to plans. Not only did they take care of all the set up & break down, they made the night go flow perfectly and popped up at all the right times to bring us a bite or a drink (which was above and beyond). They also made accommodations for a very ill relative/ minister so he could be a part of our special day & have a place to rest, We had the most romantic & beautiful night & so happy we picked Hummingbird House. We used The Hummingbird House as our reception venue only, and it was truly wonderful! Courtney was such a dream to work with - she was incredibly helpful, informative, accessible, fun, flexible...I can't say enough great things about her! From the very beginning, everyone at The Hummingbird House was so eager to answer our questions and help make our wedding day perfect. We got married on probably one of the coldest days of the year (naturally) and Courtney and Danny did everything they could to keep our guests warm and comfortable. It was obvious they truly cared about making our day perfect and special. All of our guests commented on how beautiful and wonderful the venue was!
