Hill Country Casitas - Casita #1, The Pauline

Hill Country Casitas

(26 reviews)

We have been visiting the Hill Country Casitas for several years as a regular getaway place just 45…read moreminutes outside of Austin. Featuring beautiful views of the hills, each of the Casitas have their own personality. Sized for different needs, each Casita is well designed for comfort with well selected furnishings and finishes. Most have outdoor fireplaces, which are wonderful for gathering around on a chilly evening. All of the Casitas are very comfortable. However, for couples, I would highly recommend springing extra for the very private "Pauline" Casita. Located at the top of the hilltop, the Pauline features a large soaking tub and double shower. The views are spectacular! If the Pauline is booked up, there are others that are comparable. Recently, Hill Country Casitas added a large pool and spa, which are great for warm months. Other amenities include a large outdoor pavilion, a retreat center, firepit, and outdoor game area. Hill Country Casitas is also adjacent to the wonderful Hawk Shadow winery which we recommend for the tastings which are held on an outdoor terrace overlooking the canyon. If you are a "dog person", Hill Country Casitas also is very "dog friendly". I can't recommend it more highly for couples, family get togethers, wedding celebrations, or corporate retreats. Five Stars! Check it out!

Wow. Was I ever surprised as we drove down a gravel road in the middle of nowhere to the 'cabin' we…read morehad booked for the weekend near Dripping Springs. First of all, the 'cabin' was a stone house that was as cute as it could be. The owners must either have a really good sense of style or they used a professional decorator. The appointments and style in the cabin were first very attractive. This place not only had all the amenities a first class hotel would have, it had some very, very nice touches added, such as rockers on the porch draped with Mexican blankets in front of the outdoor fireplace, with a stack of wood ready to burn. The tiled shower had a shower head on each side wall, so two people could easily shower together and have plenty of room. The bathroom was equipped with lots of plush towels, plush rugs, a hair dryer, all the soaps and lotions, and a black washcloth for makeup removal. The kitchen was fully equipped, including ground coffee in the canister ready for the coffee pot. The cabin was immaculate too. Our location was quiet and restful, yet 20 minutes from two cute towns. I was pleased and impressed, and would highly recommend this retreat.

Ma Maison - This is where they were secretly filming... completely unacceptable violation and invasion of privacy.

Let's start with the people from Ma Maison: Karen, the owner, and all of the ladies and guys that…read morework there are extremely sweet, helpful, and patient. Connor answered all my emails within the hour, and she was always so sweet and polite even though I kept asking a million questions. They made me feel so special throughout the whole planning and wedding. The day of my wedding, Karen came to the Bridal Suit and asked me if someone was bringing us lunch, because if that was not the case, she could order or pick something up for us... I think that was beyond her "work description" and made me feel so special and comfortable. Now, Ma Maison: The place is a dream!! if you're looking for that vintage-European vibe with tons of green and a lake, THIS IS THE PLACE!! they have 4+ ceremony options and one is more beautiful than the other. The Grand Hall is so big and impressive, your dreams and ideas for your reception don't have a limit in this place. I felt like a real princess in my castle.

TW: HIDDEN CAMERA!…read more My sister was married here a few years back. The wedding was beautiful and reception space lovely.... So why the low rating? THEY HAD A HIDDEN CAMERA IN THE BRIDAL SUITE! We found the small, cube-shaped camera after the wedding had started... so after we had been using the space for the entire day to dress. The camera's light was on, which indicated it was live recording. When confronted, the staff member on site (possibly the owner?) stated that the area in question was "not expected to be used for changing", and therefore they were "allowed" to have a camera. Imagine that... a bridal suite, (behind locked doors no less), that is not for changing?? Complete & utter BS. And what's worse is that the woman (I think her name was Karen?) was completely dismissive of our concerns, & didn't even BLINK when we asked her about it! Like it was common practice that she and the staff spied on every female wedding party! Meanwhile, there was ZERO signage to indicate there was a camera in that room or that we were being recorded. Plus, the camera was not in plain view... it was discretely placed under a table close to the floor, quite obviously an attempt to conceal its presence. We were all furious considering the violation, as we had OF COURSE been using that space to get dressed! "But don't worry", she said, "I'm the only one who sees it." Literally the opposite of reassuring. I suspect the owner may have placed the camera there to make sure unruly bridesmaids did not cause any property damage, but I strongly believe her actions were highly unethical if not 100% illegal. The only reason we didn't call the police or attempt to press charges was because we didn't want to ruin my sister's day or cause a scene that would overshadow her good memories. So if you choose this venue, I highly recommend you take a hidden camera detector with you and sweep the bridal suite before removing your clothing. (Photo included for proof we used this venue & to show the area of the bridal suite that they said was "not for changing"....)

Vista West Ranch - VWR Reception Space

Vista West Ranch

Vista West Ranch was my dream venue for both my ceremony and reception. I had been following it on…read morePinterest for years. So, when we stopped by for an Open House, I was sold immediately. Be prepared to have a long wait if you want to get married here! The waiting period was about 18 months when we booked in January 2016, but it was totally worth it. The venue is absolutely gorgeous, it comes with several perks (DJ, Bartenders, and a Coordinator). Having a coordinator the day of my wedding absolutely was a godsend. She works with you and handles so many things that could and do go wrong on your wedding day. The DJ and Bartenders were great and very easy to work with too. Note - Bartenders included as part of package are just for the labor worked. It does not include the glasses, mixers, alcohol., etc. Also, another side note - If you are planning on booking VWR, I recommend working with their floral company, Petal Pushers, because they really know how to make the venue shine. The Vista West Ranch team was always professional and willing to answer my questions promptly. They were flexible with some of my requests and were a pleasure to work with. Joe and Stacy have created the perfect wedding venue. The ceremony site is perfectly placed to see the sunset under some shaded trees, and the air-conditioned (important!) barn is unique and beautiful. It includes so many decor features already and really stands on its own (which will save you $$ on decor!) With Vista West, you get access to the venue starting at 2pm on Saturday. This did slightly impact our timeline because it was impossible for us to get our hair and makeup done at onsite due to the number of girls (6 getting hair/makeup done including bride). So, we just had our hair done offsite in the morning and got our makeup done in the bridal suite after arriving at 2pm. You are able to add more hours with VWR for an additional cost. Overall, my husband and I loved our experience with VWR and we feel like it was completely worth it. It helped us have our dream wedding and we couldn't be happier with our decision to book it.

The place itself can be hard to find, given that it is in the middle of nowhere and the signs are easy to miss. There is a decent parking lot for about 25ish cars in the front and more parking in the back which is a plus. The walkway is full cobbles so can be hard to walk on in heels. The indoor venue is warmly lit and has very Texan barn kind of vibes. It was good for a wedding but I am not sure what else does it have to offer apart from that.

Fear not, the factory (distillery) in Buda isn't going anywhere. The folks here told me the property and buildings are being taken over and another business will be coming in. It just makes me sad because we love it here. We love everything about it and took for granted that it will always be here. The tasting room and distillery are huge and so tastefully put together. See what I did there? Lol. The grounds are the epitome of Hill Country. Amazing views of wildflowers, brush, and sky all about. Lots and lots of outdoor patio seating, food truck area, large indoor seating, tasting bar, large ordering bars, gift shop, games, and lots more. I'm reviewing as they're leaving because this is another one of those draft reviews that I've been waiting to be finished for a long time. I gotta get better at that lol. Anyway, that matters not because this place still deserves an incredible review. Absolutely amazing drinks and people. It (was) a great way to wind down after a day of outdoor activity in Hill Country. A+++++

Outside they have nice patio seating and yard games to play. I'd definitely return!
