I've owed this review since the last Eat the Street Mililani on March 17th!!! Sorry it's so late!!! Five stars!! Why? Excellent customer service, the shrimp plate was yummy, well put together, it was beautiful, and the enthusiasm from the entire staff was awesome! We bought food from a bunch of vendors that day, but this bunch was by far, the most fun group, proud of their food and serviced their customers well. My 8 year old son, who the plate was for, was excited to go and eat his plate of shrimp! Didn't want to share it with his 5 year old sister, but eventually did, just to show off how good it was! For my boy to ask if we can hunt this truck down again, that means it was good. My kids love garlic shrimp, and I did get to taste one, it was prefect, not over cooked. Beautiful garlic shrimp in all it's glory!!! And a pretty salad too. I'm particular about my tossed salad, I don't like those ugly, chunky ice berg salads. I only like pretty salad!!! Thank you for a great experience!! read more

Guava chicken...I wonder how it tastes like? I must try. Sooo, why is it called guava chicken? I took a bite of it...it was good..but where is the guava taste? Meh so sad. I was expecting a guava taste in that chicken. Sigh. The chicken wasn't too burned. The rice wasn't too hard or mushy. Salad was included in the meal plate. It was a filling meal for $8. Simple and quick for dinner. read more

Hula Shrimp - guava chicken with salad and furikake rice - Street Vendors Near Me

I will never eat at this place again. I went to eat the streets at Kahala Mall. After waiting in line, I still had to wait 30 minutes after ordering. What I received shocked me. For $17 I received 4 small shrimp and a small, soggy, peice of ahi katsu, a scoop of soggy, smashed rice, literally like 4 leaves of lettuce, and about a tablespoon of mac salad. Not worth anything! Go to Zippys instead! read more

Decided to start doing this after I went to a recent ETS in wahiwa and had so many different food trucks and tents to choose from. I got the garlic shrimp plate and it was so amazing. I love garlic and when I tell you it was perfectly seasoned to still be able to taste the shrimp and the garlic isn't over powering. Would definitely try them again. read more

Shout out to the owner who decided to increase the prices of his plates from $10 to $18 while everyone was in line for well over a half hour at Eat The Street Turtle Bay on Fourth of July. That's an 80% price increase!! It's assumed it was because he found out that all the other food trucks ran out of food. When questioned by a woman about the price change, he then decided to belittle her in front of everyone and clearly let her know that this is his business & he can do whatever he wanted. With a name like Hula Shrimp, I'd really expect more Aloha, especially from a local Braddah. Don't really care how the food tastes at this point. You gotta be out of your mind to think I'd support a place with such poor business practices and no respect for their customers. read more

HOLYCRAPWHEREISTHISFOODANDHOWCANIGETITTOCOMEBYMEEEEEEE I tried this stand (I'm not sure if it's a truck or a stand or what) at the Honolulu Book and Music Festival and it was CRAZY good. I went early, my 4 year old in tow, and took a chance with the Hula Shrimp bento. It came with shrimp, meat, kalbi, and guava chicken. Let me just say that I'm a gourmet truck super fan, and I will spend lots of money to eat good food out of a movable restaurant. I spent $9.50 (I think) on this plate and it was so ridiculously great that I didn't share. Not any. I bought my daughter a pretzel and she never knew what she was missing. :) The guava chicken was so good. Amazingly good. It was tender, smoky, with the slightly burnt crunch on the edges that I love. I want to rave and rave about this chicken, but I feel like I can't do it any justice. I'll just stop here. It was good. Must try. The rest of the stuff is really good too. I would highly recommend this stand if you see it. Don't forget the chicken! Have a bite for me ;) read more

Had this place at eat the street last night. My buddy and i waited in line for 45 minutes (which is fine, there was a ton of people) he got shrimp and i got the bento box sampler thing. He got his food within 5 minutes of ordering and his shrimp was tasty, had lots of garlic which i liked but it is hard to eat if you don't have a table but whatever. Anyways heres the best part, i waited another 45 minutes to get my box but it wasn't because they were cooking my food, it was because they had no order to there method when putting the food together. I even heard one of the girls call out a name and the guy started to grab it but the other girl working the booth snatched it from the other worker to give to a different person. I wonder if he ever got his food after that! I only got my food after i asked why the people that ordered behind me were getting their order (which was the same as mine) before me. But wait it gets even better! So i finally get my food and the crusted ahi was delicious and the shrimp was what i expected since i had just some 40 minutes prior but the chicken....oh man the chicken...i found out after i bit into it that it was completely raw! Waited an hour and a half for RAW chicken! Yes the lady at the register seemed a bit concerned when i showed her but the cook seemed mad at me until he looked at it in the light. Their solution..."get him some more chicken!" Are you kidding me!? No don't replace my meal that was contaminated with raw poultry! No worries i didn't want my money back, i feel as though i got what i paid for. I told her no thanks and walked away, told a lady in line and she continued to wait! So i guess it must be good and not a common experience. But seriously how many people unsuspectingly ate raw chicken from this place last night! That's what i get for breaking my rule of beef or fish only from roach coaches. Now my stomach hurts :/ hopefully its just in my head. The crusted ahi was really good so that's what the extra star is for. read more

182/365 I've been meaning to try their plates so on this recent visit to eat the street I decided to give them a try because I was in the mood for something with rice. I got their guava bbq chicken plate for $8. It came with 1 scoop of rice with furikake, a small salad and 3 pieces of chicken thighs. The wait was less than 5 minutes so that was good. The chicken was nice and hot and really moist and flavorful. Some of their other plates that looked good were their pelehu steak, grilled ahi and ribs. For $8 the plate was a bit expensive for what was served but it was delicious so i'll give em that. I also wished that they had a mini portion because I would have liked to sample other trucks without being too full and/or having to carry leftovers. Overall, I couldnt really taste the guava flavor but the chicken was still very good; it was very savory with some sweetness. read more

The elusive Hula Shrimp Truck. I tried them at some festival in Wahiawa a couple of months back, but I've been slacking on my yelp reviews so here we go. Guava chicken. Anywhere I go, if guava chicken is on the menu, it's what I usually get. I'm not sure why people don't serve it. Their guava chicken is delicious. Pulehu steak give me heart burn every time. I hate the heart burn but I love the steak. I'm 120 lbs. I feel like it's worth the risk. Their pulehu steak is delicious. Their ahi is not so memorable but is also delicious to a lesser extent. Off-hand I think they say their shrimp is from Kahuku. Honestly, I don't know if it's me convincing myself that the extra money is worth it, but I felt like I liked the shrimp the best out of all of them. I love them. I have dreams of them getting a twitter account and serving up their food around town. Until then, I'll have to settle for Eat the Streets and random neighborhood events. read more

Hula Shrimp - Hula Shrimp Company by Ala Moana and Ward Center today. - Street Vendors Near Me

Caught them at Eat the Street. Horrible workers and or owner? Not sure which or both. Waited 30 minutes in line to find out the hula shrimp wasn't available, but signage hadn't been updated to say that. Order some guava chicken for sake of not having just wasted 30 min. Taste like basic ass BBQ chicken. Worse yet the old guy with receding hair is a deliberate asshat. My order ($12 steak, $10 chicken = $22) paid with $25, got change back of $2. I'm assuming the other dollar was 'unintentionally' (read intentionally) kept for the tip that they sure as hell weren't getting from me. I assume this since he looked like a chronic crook who really needed that dollar. While waiting another 30minutes for my order, shrimp became available again.... smh AND I saw the same rude man scold a young boy for throwing his rubbish in a trash bag they had tied to their tent. Told this young boy "that's our rubbish find another". Nuts. Better yet they throw themselves out with it next time. read more

They are a vendor at the Mililani Hongwanji bon dance. I have waited to order and receive my food for OVER AN HOUR!!! There is no organization. The people serving the food just grab any plate first. The guy running the grill keeps yelling. It's horrible! read more

With food that is so-so they'd better up the game on customer service because it's a big thumbs down from us. The old man taking orders should be kept in the back because he knows nothing about customer service. In fact, he is the antithesis of customer service. We avoid that tent at Mililani High School if we see crabby-ass there. You'd be smart to do the same unless you like the abuse. read more

Waited over half an hour with no sign of my order being ready. Fucking horrible, would have rated no stars if possible

Two stars cause the employee was nice, but after he took my order, he started coughing and didn't bother to cover his mouth. When he did cover his mouth, he didn't wash his hands after or use hand sanitizer. And he was the one who bagged my food. I made sure to wipe my hands really good after I got in my car. We made sure to wash our hands really good after taking the plates out of the bag. Kind of hesitant to eat the food but at least he wasn't the one cooking it. Well, we'll see how we feel in the morning. read more

Went to Eat The Street in Mililani (March 14, 2015) This was my first time trying out this food vendor. I waited in line for about 5 minutes ordered a Seared Garlic Ahi ($12.00) from I'm assuming the boss (older lady, who btw was very nice) BUT waited forever just to receive my food! 1st - I noticed that they ran out of propane to fry their ahi & shrimp BUT they didn't even tell their customers who have already placed their orders that it would be a few minutes until they could put the ahi on the pan. (The guy had to walk back to his car to get a new tank!) 2nd - by the time they got a new propane tank, everyone (over 10 people) who ordered after me got their plates and left. 3rd - its a SEARED garlic ahi, it's not that long to cook. 4th - People AFTER ME who ordered the same thing (ahi) got their plates BEFORE ME. 5th - I was getting impatient and I was very hungry at that point so I told the guy who was calling out names where my order was because I was waiting for a very long time. Apparently it was already ready! It was just sitting on the side by the pile of plates to be served. He told me "Sorry, it was my fault, here's your plate." That's it. No "thank you for coming, or heres a drink on us." Nothing just a "my bad." I was too hungry and upset to say anything so I just left angry and stormed into the crowd. Look I understand you're busy because of the crowd but I don't think any customer whether they went to a restaurant or visiting a food truck deserves to wait for a long time for a simple meal (1) without letting them know you ran out of propane. (2) Another thing is their SYSTEM of getting plates to their customers is messed up. How would you know who ordered first? Two people could be waiting for the same thing but the person who ordered first may not even receive it until later. (3) APPRECIATE your customer. Once I sat down to eat, it was cold and kind of disappointing. DID NOT look like their sample in front. At least it tasted okay, I guess. (Extra star for the nice lady) read more

Eat the street tonight at Kapolei High School. Stood in line for almost 40 minutes. As I get closer to the line, they erase all the prices on their menu board??...just the prices. Now, I order the Kahuku garlic shrimp and pulehu steak combo. I get my plate and it feels so darn light. I open it to make sure that is what I ordered. One scoop rice, 4 pieces shrimp t that did not look like kahuku shrimp at all , and steak that looked like the bottom of the pan...little pieces, and where the salad was supposed to be was empty. When I asked where my salad was, the dude says, oh they ran out of salad. Okay, so why don't you tell your customers and replace it with something else...like an extra scoop of rice?? I felt like they hoped I wouldn't notice. Mind you the plate cost me $12. Now, there are still about 40 people in line, and they start crossing items off their menu board without letting their customers in line know. The couple who was behind me was told that they ran out of steak, and would they like chicken instead? The husband says, "well I was waiting in line for almost 45 minutes for the steak, if you ran out of steak, then I guess so, chicken. He was so upset. They should announce to their customers early enough how many plates are left for a particular item. Very bad judgment in quantity of food. I wasted my time in line for this and was really disappointed. Never again. Not worth standing in this line only to have them run out and tell you only when you there to order. The picture here is what the plate is supposed to look like. It was no where near this. Never again. read more

Tried this truck at eat the street mililani I ordered the shrimp with short ribs combo, 12.00 the first problem, 2nd I got steak and short rib instead of shrimp, 3rd they were cooking on the grill however they were stock piling in a chafing pan that was not heated so meats were nasty oily and cold, 4th my rice was like a hard mush ball... Gross ! I threw it away!! I would not eat there again! read more

I went to Eat The Street tonight(01/30/2015) my boyfriend and I decided to both 2 two choice plates at $15 each. We decided to take our plates home since it was around closing time. This was the biggest rip off ever. I paid $13 for couple pieces of mediocre shrimp and fish. In their defense, however, whoever organizes this charges them an arm and a leg for a stand (about $400). However, that's no excuse for the small portions. The plate I got had a few pieces of shrimp that they probably got from Costco. I couldn't really taste any butter garlic from their shrimp and I'm sure any decent person could cook it the way they did. The fish was pretty bland and very small. When they passed me the plate, I thought they made a mistake because it was sooo light. THE BIGGEST MISTAKE EVER! read more

Discovered this food truck at Eat The Street a couple months back. The aroma from their BBQ was too good to pass up. Got the combo bento that included Guava Chicken, Garlic Shrimp and Mahi Mahi over rice. Good portion of food and it was delicious. The line was kind of long when I ordered, but felt the wait wasn't bad by the time I got my food. It was all worth it when I was all pau from eating. read more

Checked this stand out in Kailua today...great food. Got the garlic seared ahi and guava chicken combo. $12. Ive had a lot of food trucks where you paid a lot but didnt get a lot. Hula shrimp is the opposite. I got two big pieces of ahi, two big chicken breasts, rice, and a salad. Bigger than your average lunch plate and delicious. Garlic ahi was cooked just right; garlic wasnt too overpowering but enough to appreciate. Guava chicken was cooked through but still juicy. If I see these guys around, I will definitely order again. Waited about 10 minutes, not bad for fresh food. Only downside is I wanted to try the shrimp but they weren't selling it! read more

Just tried it at Eat The Street, no good things to say about it. Waited 20 minutes for my food that ended up being cold and the wrong order. When I finally sat down to eat my chicken was overcooked and tasteless, the shrimp was also tasteless. 20 or so customers behind me got their plates before mine and we ordered the same thing. All I got was a "oh sorry man about the wait".... Never again gonna eat here, and I'll sure to tell all my friends about it. read more

Workers need serious training. At Ewa Community Fair today: besides the guy on the grill telling a story to the guy cooking shrimp using F- BOMBS every other word in front of customers and keiki, they take FOREVER making your plate. 22 entire minutes I waited in the sun for what turned out to be a very mediocre steak plate. What made it worse was that the lady taking orders doesn't notify customers that their order "may take 10 minutes" or "15 minutes", etc. Then once your plate is ready, she hands it without any package and says ZERO. Nothing at all, like "thanks for waiting" or "sorry it took so long". NOTHING. Steak needed salt too....any steak that needs to be salted simply wasn't seasoned properly to begin with. I guarantee you one thing - anybody on here saying the pulehu steak was ono was either paid, a worker, friend, family, or just don't know squat about beef. NEVER again. read more

So, besides the beautiful girl at the counter, the food was great. My friends and I were conducting a highway clean up in wiamanalo on Friday and got hungry when we were done. I had the shrimp, my buddies had steak and ribs. The food was great and plenty of it. This was my first time to try a street vendor but man, it was good. The scenic view along with good friends and good food.........it was a great day. I only wish I could have chased it down with a beer. read more

On a leisurely ride back to Ewa from a long day at the beach we passed by Hula Shrimp in Waimanalo. What caught our eye was the menu that said guava glazed ribs what made us stop was the awesome aroma of BBQ that filled the air. We decided to get the Bento plate and OMG was it AWESOME!!!! On the bottom was a huge layer of our Island stable, perfectly steamed rice dusted with furikake. On top was some of the best grilled chicken, Korean ribs and fresh Ahi I have ever had. The Ahi was dusted with a panko crust, cooked to perfection and topped with a delicious wasbi sauce. Both meats were seasoned perfectly and served moist and juicy. They also had a real tasty spiced shoyu that complimented the whole dish. Since the bento was soooo good we also tried the Hula shrimp and wow another hHOME RUN. It was perfectly cooked with just the right amount of garlic and butter to make taste great but not too greasy. Now if the AWESOME food wasn't enough the staff was OUTSTANDING, even busy cooking they made sure to talk story with us and attended to our every need making sure we had enough napkins, ice in our drinks and ensuring the meal was just right. I have to say, if you ever find yourself with a case of the Waimanalo Blues.......follow you nose to Hula Shrimp...it's just what the Doctor ordered.
