    a menu on the wall

I was given a gift card from T Mills newsletter so there was no other alternatives. I didn't read reviews from here and thought Hula was like most Poke restaurants. NO, that wasn't true. The menu consisted of Vegan Poke, Seafood Poke, coconut Poke and Thai Curry Poke and some of them sounded off. Usually Poke is a seafood rice bowl with variety of veggies with sesame or onion flakes. I found the menu confusing as well. Brown rice is my favourite, but Hula doesn't have any. I ordered 2 proteins (salmon and tuna) on Ponzu bowl it was gross. Never thought I'd have a SALTIEST Poke ever in my life. Staff was helpful, but the sauce was overly drizzled onto my bowl. Sorry, Hula my Poke bowl was disgusting loaded with sodium. Don't bother ordering.

Yuzu traditional poke. Double fish (tuna and salmon) on sushi rice
    Carolyn L.

I had the yuzu traditional poke on sushi rice. I asked for double fish (salmon and tuna) at $3 more. The rice was hot, I was not used to that. I was used to either room temperature or cool rice since it was sushi rice. The poke was also very salty which made it so hard to eat. Save your money and go somewhere else to eat. This poke is not like the usual poke shop.

One of the better places to eat when at Tsawwassen Mills. Portions are fair for the price. Food is assembled quickly in front of your eyes. There are multiple options of sauce/flavours. However, I just got back from a trip to Hawaii where I got to sample some of the best Poke in the world. And, sorry to say, most places in Vancouver simply don't measure up. It is partly due to the fish we use. In Hawaii, the tuna is crimson red and extremely fresh. Here, it's a beige/pink color. The taste is not the same at all. I only sampled the tuna (I'm not a fan of raw salmon) so perhaps the other offerings are better. As mentioned by others, the rice was served hot which partially steam-cooked some of the tuna while it sat in the bowl. Hula Poke gets bonus points for using biodegradable utensils. As a newer restaurant, they have time to improve. If they can source better grades of tuna, I'll give them another shot.

Good food options at the Tsawassen mills are kinda limited. So, we picked up some Poke from Hula and KFC from the food court and brought it out to the temporary picnic tables by the main entrance. I've had poke at a few places before, and each one is quite different. This one at Hula is somewhat disappointing. We picked the Tiki Bowl with coconut rice. The portions weren't that big and the toppings were slightly sad looking. -I guess I was comparing this to the Steves poke last time. Flavoring was not bad, but wished the toppings would have made it more exciting. The fragrance of the coconut rice was a nice touch tho. We were going to try out their Kelp noodle, just cause it sounded interesting but it didn't look that appetizing when they showed it to us. Funny story: I took a picture of the KFC combo with the Poke bowl and showed it to my sister, she thought it was just a salad that came with KFC due to its relatively small portion and the Green covering the bowl. So yea.. Food 6 Service 7 Ambiance 6 Value 5

"Wai Tai" in Strawberry Hibiscus (fruit-infused coconut water). S0 refreshing and not too sweet!

Went to order at this location in Tsawwassen Mills twice. The 1st time there were 3 people working and they were busy, but the guy at the cashier was super friendly & helpful, patiently answering all my questions. He even up-sold me on their strawberry hibiscus "wai-tai", which was refreshing and a great compliment to their food. The poké bowl itself was a bit small portion-wise, compared to what you pay...or maybe I am just used to getting a considerable amount more at other restaurants? In any case it had a lot more emphasis on kale & spices, which had really great blend of flavours. The reason I am only giving two stars is because of my 2nd visit. The mall wasn't busy and there were no customers, and one person working, standing near the entrance to the kitchen. I stood there in front of the register for maybe 5 minutes waiting, as he appeared to be assembling the food. After a while, I attempted to gain his attention by saying hi & waving...which only got a quick expressionless glance before going back to whatever he was doing. Frustrated, I gave up and left. At least let me know you will be with me whenever you're done, or say hello back? In any case, I have mixed feelings on whether I will return or not. Their poké bowls aren't SO amazing or economical that I am willing to go despite my last poor experience, but at the same time they do have unique flavours that you can't get at other places. Maybe if the poké bowl cravings hit me super hard when I'm shopping at the mall, MAYBE I will try again.

Finally open! Part of Tsawwassen Mills' food court, Hula offers poke bowls in 8 different flavours. I tried Yuzu with coconut rice and it did not disappoint! Heavy on the crispy onions, it is a dish with lots of bold flavour. You get a choice of Ahi tuna, Wild sockeye salmon, Tofu or Sweet potato. The tuna was a yummy choice. Their prices are on the expensive side, $13-14 for a relatively small portion, compared to downtown poke bowls. However, their offerings come with gluten- and dairy- friendly options and all fish is oceanwise.

This was good poke. I was hesitant because it's a different country and I didn't know how it would taste. Surprisingly it was pretty good poke. The sauce my tuna and salmon was mixed in was so good and creamy. I ordered the Lei (mild) with salmon and tuna. Lots of greens like kale in there. It was definitely delicious and a great quick poke place to eat at if you're at the mall!!

As we entered there was already a looped line-up, scoping out the place while we waited - a fresh, bright, semi-nautical and modern atmosphere with a clean, simple feel. After about 25 minutes we got to the ordering area where we greeted with smiles and a nice welcome from the very own Steve of Steve's Poké! Super friendly guy and all the staff had good energy and smiles to make the ordering and wait worth it. We've been to his Central Surrey location (super nice staff too) and the Willowbrook Mall is coming soon but so happy this South Surrey location is now a 5 minute drive from me! Plenty of beautiful and very fresh ingredients with labels to make ordering easy. But even before you top your bowl, the rice is great - they use is a short grain and it has more of a chew/glutinous mouth feel to it. They have green salad as a base option as well. I topped my Large Poké Bowl with a scoop of Shoyu Salmon and Spicy Scallop. Good decent chunks of protein and flavoured well. Next I topped it off with beautiful toppings like seaweed salad, edamame, corn, red onion, imitation crab, and kimchi. You can add premium toppings for an extra fee like avocado, masago, tobiko, mango, etc. After you've created your bowl and pay, there's a little station for you to add your dressings for an extra kick of flavour - spicy mayo, ponzu, and sesame. The eating space can accommodate smaller and larger groups. And if you're not into making your own bowl, they have preset poké bowls so you don't have to think and they have their famous Steve's Traditional (Hawaiian) Poké Bowl - served island style. Overall, a really awesome addition to South Surrey - Welcome Steve's Poké Bar!

For the record - I've been to Hawaii several times but never had Poke there - to my utter shock & horror! Anyway, my bro said it was the kinda looking gas station you avoid just like in the movies. Well was he ever stunned - walked in & towards the back - Poke for sale. He really hesitated but was so hungry. Good thing he caved in cause he described it as the best Poke he ever had till today! Hawaii is the originator of Poke. I'll be honest I've been a bit slow to the Poke trend. I've tried it a couple times before but what caught my eye & my appetite this time was the sandwich board outside Westcoast Poke, advertising its daily specials. My gosh the Dynamite Poke absolutely tantilzed me. Flavours were 100% on point & delivered pure joy & happiness in mouth! Most definitely top marks for WCP! Bravo for freshness, presentation & cleanliness! I've tried the Coast Poke & thoroughly enjoyed it as well - Dynamite (Prawns) Coast (salmon). Oh one last thing - it's pronounced 'pow-kay' not 'poke' as in - I poked the bear. So say it right when you order it ok!?! Keep in mind that when you walk into most Poke shops, there is a strong pungent smell of the raw fish that's served. Trust me don't go with the urge to run away, cause the taste of Poke is absolutely a hit in all the right ways. I'm going to try & make 2023 the year I go hard at healthy eating via lots of Poke! I'm going to give up on ice-cream, donuts, chocolate, alcohol, cigar smoking etcetera ... ok staaaaaap! No way Jose! Who do you think I am!?! LOL! As it's year end I'll wish everyone a Merry Christmas & plenty drinks on New Year's Eve - celebrate, celebrate, celebrate! Salut & best wishes for 2023!

Patient and friendly staff, that they take the time to explain the menu to you. Very generous portions (especially with the avocado). Lots of toppings to choose from. For example, crab salad and seaweed salad had a spicy and non-spicy option, which was my first time experiencing that on a poke menu personally. My order: Coast: my favourite of the 2 bowls I ordered - it's super saucy (burnt miso chili oil & garlic aioli sauce). The highlight was the fresh Atlantic salmon, and I really enjoyed the mangoes. The sweetness from the mangoes really ties the bowl together very nicely with an extra layer of flavour. Aloha: Ahi tuna in a lighter shoyu sauce, with seaweed salad & avocado. They also offer custom bowls, and currently have a rotation of "Poke of the Day", which is $10/bowl from their Signature selection (not sure how long this promo lasts though).
