I've been to HuHot twice in two weeks. The first time in I thought it seemed pretty clean and everyone was nice. Then, after a hearty meal of mixed up random goodness, half an hour later I found myself quite ill. But, the experience had been so good that I assumed I'd probably gone for too much of the richer sauces and done it to myself. So today I gave it another chance. Again, pretty decent meal, the grill area seemed a little messy but not bad cleanliness over all. The meat is frozen, I thought, so it certainly can't be at the wrong temperature. This place is great, besides the prices (which are not all that bad when compared to other restraunts of equal quality) there is nothing not to like about this place. Gets pretty loud during rush times and the constant gong and crew holloring "HUHOT" gets a little old but have some fun with those you are with and the fantastic staff and those things dissapear into the background. Buffet style place where they cook in front of you, completely design your own dish from a variety of ingredients. They cook right there and the food always tastes awesome. There are a number of sauces that you choose from and they are cleary labled for level of heat. Do be careful with what you choose, they more the flames next to the name, the hotter the sauce. I went all out and put 6 ladles of Kahn's Revenge (7 flames) and I about died. If anyone could have finished off that entire plate, they should be awarded for it. Our waitress thought it was pretty funny that I did what I did and she had no remorse for my suffering. However, neither did my wife so I guess maybe they are the smarter ones. Recommeded for everyone but I would go without small kids. Because of the buffet style and the cooking in front of you, when we went with the small ones, seemed like neither my wife or I was at the table at the same time. Reading the reviews offered here for HuHot made me chuckle. I mean, really, have these people never eaten at a Chinese buffet in Springfield?! Every one I have tried offers a Mongolian BBQ experience with less sanitation and a severe lack of options compared to HuHot. First, I have to say we love the wait staff. Not only are they always helpful and entertaining, they are more than understanding of our wiggly, messy toddler. The first time we visited, more than just our waitress went out of their way to say hello and offer help and advice. Even the guys behind the grill always have a smile and something nice to say. For a place that charges $7 a person for lunch and $10 a person for dinner for all you can eat, it's incredibly friendly. Second, the range of options for Mongolian BBQ is wonderful. My husband loves tofu and extra spice, our son loves teriyaki noodles and I am a fan of sweet and spicy. All three of us always enjoy what we make at HuHot. Even my brother and his friend, who are picky eaters and often annoying to take out to dinner, found this place amazing. The bar has five to six types of protein, from chicken to beef to pork to tofu to eggs they scramble on the grill (some seafood at certain times of the day/on certain days of the week) and three types of noodles (pad thai, chinese and the other escapes my memory). As for vegetables, it really does depend on when you go but I've seen cilantro, black beans, baby corn, water chestnuts, bean sprouts, carrots, celery...you get the idea. The staples plus something extra. As for the sauces, I get dizzy just thinking about what I want to make. I've had excellent pad thai, decent sweet 'n' sour (it's not my favorite anyway), mouthwatering mustard chicken and a sweet and spicy blend that was all made up by me. Third, while it may weird you out to watch your food being cooked on a hot grill next to someone else's or to find frozen meat on the buffet, the truth is that a Mongolian BBQ is just a glimpse into what a restaurant kitchen looks like. If you are squeamish or have allergies, though, HuHot may not be the best place for you. Bottom line? Get their amazing steamed potstickers as an appetizer, use the handy cards on the table if you're overwhelmed by the sauces and have s'mores at your table on your own little "campfire" for dessert. Cooking area was gross. Could see cooks feet, where they're wading in grease old food and sweat drippings. A bit unappetizing right before I ate. Food wasn't great. Granted you pick your own raw food for them to cook, but they suggest all these sauces, and meat doesn't brown because sauce should be added later, not everything at once. I'm not seeing the appeal. My family and I went for a birthday dinner and the entire experience was awful. The only good thing was we were seated immediately and that should have been our first clue. We had to ask the server how to explain to us how it worked because we had never been there. He spewed the directions way too fast for us to understand. We ordered our drinks and appetizer at the same time. Got our drinks quickly and our appetizers and kids meals after all of the adults had already gone through the grill line and sat down. The cooks were full on arguing while cooking our food. And it was more than just playful banter. The server came back maybe twice more to check on us. (Which they were not busy at all). The server didn't know how to divide the checks (2 tickets) After he git it wrong twice, we decided to just pay it and figure it out later between families. After 10-15 minutes We ended up having to hunt him down so he would take our payment so we could get out of there. read more

One of the worst Mongolian grills I've been to. The food wasn't particularly tasty or interesting. It seemed bland and set up to simply feed lots of people and often. The grill was not cleaned off, so heavy, black gunk developed on the grill so much that creative people would tell the cook they were allergic to an ingredient, just to get them to clean it off better. The more honest of us would just suffer through crunching black, burnt bits of the last 130 dishes that congealed on the grill. Great place for mongolian! Some of the other reviews were giving 1 star because the food is cooked next to someone elses food. Really? I guess that every other restaurant has a stove dedicated to each customer. So that's what goes on behind the swinging doors of all the other restaurants. Makes sense I guess. . . Now about the food, its very good. You choose what goes in it. I guess if you don't like it, you only have yourself to blame because once again you put it all together. No wonder you eat out all the time, you don'tknow how to cook! I highly reccomend this place and try the cheesecake rangoons for dessert and the mushroom plunder is a must have appetizer. read more

With it being Christmas Eve, we were unaware they closed at 4 and we showed up at 3:55. At no point did they intend to shoo us away. They were extremely polite and welcomed us intently. Decent food, but definitely over priced. The food is all frozen, not fresh. They charge out the butt for anything besides the basic mongolian grill. So if you just want a massive amount of average noodles mixed with frozen meats and what not, then go ahead! The atmosphere is definitely a little weird there too. I'd recommend HuHot to anyone! I love the layout and atmosphere, and knowing EXACTLY what I am eating. Their sauces are MSG free, and the variety is amazing. I read a review of someone complaining that the meat is frozen, but as a mom who loves to cook, I have learned that when making stir-fry, cooking the meat while still frozen keeps it from drying out. There may be people out there that don't mind their food being cooked out of sight, and not knowing what they are eating, but I'm not one of them. HuHot is also the cleanest Asian restuarant in Springfield that I've seen. Most make me cringe and even if the food "tastes good", who knows what's in it or how long it's been sitting. Just read the Greene County inspection report if you want to know where not to go. I say 2 thumbs way up for HuHot! read more

Mrs. M and I went here for lunch with our son and daughter-in-law. We were seated quickly and the interior was very spacious. Lunch on Halloween Friday is obviously a popular time for the lines were long. I have no idea why so many people are bashing this place. Yes it has its cons, but then it also has many pros. I say give it a second chance--it may just surprise you. Go during lunch when the prices are cheaper and it isn't as crowded. Otherwise you're setting yourself up to not have as good of an experience there. I would skip the appetizers. Not worth the price, in all honesty. And yes I'll admit, it is slightly annoying to wait your turn at the round table. That being said, the food is good and super fresh. You have to mix-and-match to get the best out of it. Don't stick to one flavor. And above all else: enjoy it! Gorge yourself if you must. Make it worth the money. I LOVE HUHOT! I've been going for years and I have yet to have an experience bad enough that I wouldn't return. Yes, the waitstaff is sometimes a little slow, but you run the risk of waiting at any restaurant, and if you haven't worked in the food-service industry, you really should get a sneek peek at how busy servers can be. On to the food! First off, it took me a while to get my food just how I liked it, but I've never gotten something so revolting I would just leave. You should start out with one bowl for your meats and noodles and another for your veggies and sauces. This guarantees that you'll have a hefty amount of food when you get your plate back. The vegetables have always been fresh and crispy when I've gone and if you don't add a sauce with some sort of kick, it's going to taste bland (you can only do so much with Sesame sauce). I find nothing "disgusting" about the way they cook the food. I've been there dozens of times and nothing has ever made me sick, so they can't be doing too much wrong. I'll find a random onion in my food from time to time, but I'm mature enough to just pick it out and keep eating without making a big deal out of it. As far as the atmosphere, I agree that it's a little cliche, but from a business standpoint, you have to pick a theme and go with it, or you risk losing order. Calling it "HuHot Grill" and not having a theme wouldn't hold up very well, and neither would putting picture of REAL Mongols. Also, if you look at the sauces, the "Khan" theme kicks in too. The theme is reflective of the 1100s and 1200s and the Mongol Empire (hence: "pillage"). Find a picture of Genghis Khan, and you'll see your "Fu Manchu" mustache (which was probably derived from Khan or his successors). Anyway, without getting too wordy (have I done that yet?) I love HuHot and I will continue to be a customer there. Take a few chances with sauces, meats, and vegetables that you wouldn't normally, and worst-case-scenario, you can go back and get something else. As with anything, as long as you allow your experience to be a positive one, little will keep that from happening. read more

It is exactly what it is. You pick out the food from a buffet style bar and then build your flavor by following a receipt or making your own. Finally, you hand it to the cooks and they make it right in front of you. The cooks on our last visit is what made it a blast. The food is good and the rest is on you to make your choices. After waiting 40 mins to be seated, you then stand in line to have your food cooked. What is basically hibachi you stand in line for. Quality of the food was not amazing. The first thing you see when filling your "bowl" is 3 containers of cut frozen meat, not very appealing. Rice didn't make it to out table until our entire party had pretty much finished eating. With each person having multiple bowls you can see why that is an issue. Service was slow and not worth the tip with I had to pay because it was included in the amount on my check. They could at least try to earn the tip if I have to pay it. With another established hibachi style rest. just across the parking lot I would have rather eaten there. At least the food I watch being cooked would not have been in my bowl frozen before hand and I wouldn't have had to stand around for almost an hour to actually get some food. I will not be back. Overpriced and not worth it unless you just love eating 5 plates full of average food at a buffet and paying too much for it. read more

You will always leave stuffed. This place offers spicy food for the adventurous but leaves room for those you can't take spice. Everything about the diversity in the sauces, the meats, and the veggies makes this place great. An added benefit is that you can watch them cook your meal and they all seem to have a great time doing it. The only complaint is that they don't want you to take two bowls but their bowls are tiny. They have a pretty good selection of sauces to add to your meal but every time I go their I can never find one that is amazing. It is especially annoying when the place is packed and you have to stand in a huge line forever to get your food. I mean if you want this type of food just go to a hibachi style grill. They are all over the place in town. You can also sit down and watch someone make your food. It tastes better also. HuHot is a definite HOT SPOT! My husband and I do not live in Springfield but we have family that does, and everytime we come down we make it a point to go there at least once. We love the restaurant and the options it gives as far as vegetarian/vegan or gluten free. We also love that because they are so accommodating we can ask for an allergy scrape for the grill before out food goes on which is so nice. The staff is so friendly, and you really get what you pay for. You pay a one time price, and can go up as many times as you'd like. It's delicious and fresh veggies and pad thai noodles are too die for. The green curry sauce combined with garlic broth or oil and a little bit of lime juice and soy (they have gluten free soy on request I believe) is to die for. So....... There I was-joining my wife and kids for the Huhot experience. Service wasn't bad, but the only requirement was to ensure I had a beverage. I was confused on what I was doing the first time, but caught on as I watched in front of me in line. It looks appetizing at first.........you think, hey I can't wait to see what they do to my food.......then it happens. You give your plate to one of two guys........who are wielding a long spatula that is just dripping (and I mean dripping in grease and nastiness). To my surprise they used this spatula for "everyone's" food that was placed on the grill. I questioned how the Mongolian Chefs would wipe it off before using it for my neighbors food (as I was getting a mixture of hot and sweet sauces) and they just poured his food out and used the exact same spatula for his food (without even a courtesy wipe off). This seems to be the mantra........it's not a bad concept, but it's filthy. The floor (where they mix the food) is so greasy that if you watch closely....they don't take steps, they slide in the grease and meat/vegetable particles and simply glide around the Mongolian Grill. The only highlight of the visit was the dessert. We tried the tableside Smore's. These are really worth it for the $4 it cost. The kids got to make a smore over a little mini table fire and this is what had me stretching this out to a full star for our visit to Huhot Upon leaving Huhot......we had about 4 hours before we had a real treat awaiting us (a family of four that was fighting for bathrooms). I may drop in for dessert at Huhot, but I'm not going to tempt fate again. read more

There was a great selection at and fast service. I was there during lunch and the line was huge, but it went pretty fast. You basically just go to a buffet and put everything you want in a bowl. Then give it to the cooks and they make it on a hibachi like top right in front of you. Yes, the meat is frozen, but would you want unfrozen meat sitting out in a buffet? So, my friend and I went here on a weeknight an hour before they closed. In spite of this, all of the staff was very attentive, friendly, and didn't make us feel rushed at all or ignored. The food was great; the vegetables and noodles were fresh and all the meats were of good cuts and good quality. It was very clean inside in the dining room and where the food is located as well as barriers separating the foods on the buffet from the grill area. It's a little pricey at $16.00 for the grill and a drink, but if you go through at least twice and load up, $8.00 a trip is worth it. The restrooms were very clean as well. Love this place, a favorite. Took the kids (4 yr old twins, 8yo, 12 yo)..they were mesmerized all while enjoying their late lunch. Their lunch buffet orice is $11.99 for adults, $5.99 for 8-12 yrs, and $3.99 for 4-7. Non alcoholic drinks with refills are included in that price! 6 of us ate with a mix appetizer for $57. Not bad! The cooks really put on a show for you while your waiting. Fun times! read more
