Calibre Coffee in South Barrington was honestly a letdown. The place looks nice from the outside,…read morebut the experience didn't match the hype at all. The coffee tasted burnt and overly bitter, like it had been sitting too long, and for the price, that's unacceptable. Service was slow and felt disorganized--staff didn't seem very attentive, and it took way longer than it should have just to get a basic order. On top of that, the atmosphere was louder and less relaxing than expected, which defeats the whole point of going to a coffee shop to chill or get work done. Overall, overpriced, underwhelming coffee, and poor service. Definitely not somewhere I'd go out of my way to visit again.

The 2 baristas working were very friendly, greeted me right away and made the drinks quickly. I got the biscoff iced latte, which is something I've had many times at other places. I really like that theirs isn't overly sweet, it doesn't have a ton of whip or cookie crumbles or syrup coating the sides which is what I prefer. The ube latte is sweeter but also not overly sweet like other places do. We ordered 16 oz but were given 20 oz cups, the barista said they were out of smaller cups. I think because of this they actually added more milk too, because the coffee taste was very light. I wish there was less milk or more espresso. Prices were high, $17 for 2 drinks is steep for the burbs. I'd come back, but I'd probably get an extra shot or ask for less milk.

The premade packaged banana marble bread was good but probably super processed. The waffle was pretty small, palm size, and the original one was served in the circular paper coffee cup holder, which is hilarious. The one with icecream was okay. Can't really taste the green tea flavor. Neither was super expensive but still probably not worth the price. Husband got a lavender latte subbed out with oat milk and it was pretty good but not impressive. Not too much lavender flavor but might not be a bad thing cuz some lavender flavor is too overpowering or artificial. This place is just ok. Staff seemed to be teens or young adults, pretty friendly and accommodating with us asking about extra plates to share with kids.

This particular location has nailed it for attracting customers because it's placed right near the store entrance/exit and in the produce section. Oh, I wish I lived in a life where I can eat this every day without any health consequences. They rotate their flavors frequently, but I'm sad to learn that the Ferrero Rocher and chocolate hazelnut flavors are no longer available. The Mariano's West Loop location has the most selections, but this location has a decent variety. I love the little things added to enhance the appearance of the gelatos, such as half a real coconut placed on the coconut gelato and a couple of Andes mint chocolate bars sprinkled on the mint chocolate gelato. The size of the scoops are decent. However, I noticed that the gelato here is softer than the West Loop one. My favorite Vero location is still the West Loop one, but this is my second favorite. ***NOTE: When you purchase 10 gelatos with your Mariano's card, you get one free (including the large size)!***

Ah, Vero Coffee Bar. You had me at "Fiat Cinquecento on your gelato cups."…read more I've only tried 3 flavors of their gelato so far, but all have been tasty. The mini cups are only $1, and it's a whole scoop of gelato! Can't beat that. I'm sure I'll try many others as time goes on, but so far I've tried the Disaronno Amaretto, Opera Italiana, and Chocolate ones. All are quite good. They also make shakes with their gelato, which I'm sure are awesome. What I really want to try is the spaghetti and meatballs, which is of course gelato put through an extruder to resemble spaghetti and meatballs. :9 I'm sure it visually beats a boring old sundae any day! Coffee drinks are decent; organic hot cocoa is nice. Prices are reasonable. Oh, and the breakfast panini are only $3 and are served all day. I tried the arugula one (sorry, can't remember what they call it on the menu) that also had tomato and fresh mozzarella on toasted ciabatta. It was nice. You can see my photo of it attached to the entry for this place on Yelp. Not the best I've ever had, but definitely decent, and good value for money.

Very disappointing experience at Tous Les Jours today…read more The service was extremely rude. The cashier (long black hair) she had an unfriendly attitude from the start--no greeting, no smile, and it felt like she was already irritated. What made it worse was how both the cashier and the owner spoke to me. They raised their voices instead of helping. There was a promotion for 3 bakery items for $5. I accidentally selected 7 items instead of 6, and I clearly told them multiple times that I only wanted 6 and did NOT want the extra item. Instead of fixing a simple mistake calmly, they kept raising their tone at me, which was unnecessary and uncomfortable. As a customer, I expect basic respect and professionalism. This situation could have been handled politely in seconds, but instead it turned into a negative experience. I won't be returning, and I hope management seriously works on customer service.

We ordered a cappuccino, almond croissant, and cherry danish from a very helpful staff member. The pastries were pretty good, albeit on the heavy side. My danish was packed with cherries but didn't have much of the cream cheese I was hoping would cut the sweetness a bit. The cappuccino was the highlight, smooth and not overly bitter. We were there mid-morning on a Saturday, and two people were working. Our pastries came out pretty quickly, but it took a very long time for my cappuccino due to a large to-go order they were handling. It's understandable, and we weren't in a hurry anyway. I've only been here once and so I don't know if that's typical, but something to be aware of in case you're on a tight timeline. The ambiance was nice, and it would be a pleasant place to hang out and work.

Parents would not be completely relaxed because supervision is required for our energetic kids, but that is just the name of the game. We have been their Mount Prospect location, but the Hoffman Estates one operates a little differently: store-logo grip socks are required to purchase for children ($1.99/pair, as of 06/13/2026). Adults are required to wear socks and adult-size socks are available for purchase if you need a pair. Otherwise, things are business as usual. My partner and I bought our two boys and got the siblings discount (regular admission: $19.99, sibling discount: $17.99, as of 06/13/2026). First of all, before I wanted to mention how much fun our munchkins had, the iced cold brew hit the spot! That was exactly what I needed. Then it was time to order some food, their cheesy and prosciutto/arugula Flatbread were the carbs I needed to overcome the buzz of iced cold brew. Our kids and my partner devoured these quickly and efficiently as well. We were there for solid three hours or so and our kids play every station, from mini rock climbing to musical/metal/transparent slides. They briefly mingled in the baby area and realized that that space was reserved for toddlar under 36 months. With that said, my young could have stayed yet he wanted to chase his bro...lol. The environment was clean. There was a birthday party going on but I didn't bother us the unrelated patrons at all. Unfortunately, driving to Hoffman Estates was a quest and the gas price hasn't been that friendly for a casual mini road trip like this. With that said, we will make it here when we can because we genuinely enjoyed our experience here.
