    Grilled Pork Banh Mi
    Ilana Z.

Came for brunch on Saturday to try a bahn mi & infamous country fried steak. We also ordered the Vietnamese spring rolls. Everything was super hot & delicious! The pork banh mi with the egg was filling and the pork slices were super juicy and moist. Loved the pickled carrots and adding Siracha. The country fried steak was also bomb. The side kale salad had a good balsamic vinaigrette dressing. The steak was fried just right and didn't taste oily.

Hughie's is what most would consider a gastro pub. It has an extensive list of drinks but more importantly, they have a menu that includes mostly Vietnamese dishes, mixed with some American staples. Their country fried steak with bacon gravy is a must try if that's your thing. They also offer daily weekday specials, which includes their Cajun Fish Fry. The decor includes tables and booths, with a bar. They also have a dog friendly patio. They also include a drive-up to-go lane, which is huge for me. I work nearby and stop by for an early dinner before shift. The service is quick and attentive. Don't sleep on their chicken tenders or fries. The serving sizes are substantial and worth the price.

My Aunt and I were craving Vietnamese food while on our trip! This was absolutely one of the best meals we had on our trip! The shaking fried rice with our meat proteins and fried egg tasted like heaven! My beef just melted in my mouth, it was so good! The eggs rolls were hot and crispy and so was those " fire" sweet chilly wings, Our server was very sweet and took good care of us during our lunch visit-- we definitely felt the southern hospitality as well! If you're in Houston and love good Vietnamese food definitely add them to your list of places to try out! Chow!

My absolute favorite fried rice in the city! Open late and never disappoints. They also have a great beer selection and make a mean Vietnamese iced coffee. Definitely give them a try!

Shaking beef rice. Tiniest lemon pepper dipping sauce

Not visiting here on my own, only for social purposes. It's located in the heights so think of limited parking space. It's got sitting indoors and outdoors. Menu is a mix of both worlds, American and Vietnamese. They provided an accurate description, I quote "Vietnamese American gastropub with fusion dishes". This place offers the traditional banh mi, shaking beef rice, noodles but also fried chicken with gravy and biscuit and burgers and fries. The inside is surrounded by screens showing the beers offerings, many are local, which is awesome. Unfortunately, the most memorable for me was the off scent of the glass in which they served either water or beer. Some wet rag we think. Asked to bring a new one but it's a whole batch of that same wash cloth or I dunno. I also disliked the size of that lemon pepper dipping sauce. It's so tiny. It's the same size when you order the fried calamari. That burger is nothing to declare, borderline bland. Biggest positive touch of the evening is our waitress who checked on us regularly, joked and laughed with us, friendly staff! There are many competitors in this cuisine. For that reason, I'd venture elsewhere and wouldn't make a specific trip here unfortunately.

This was a great spot for a group of people who all like different things. Their menu has something for everyone! The food was decent. They had banh mi, vermicelli, rice platters, chicken tenders, burgers, and chicken fried steak. The platters come with a really good kale salad, even though it seemed like an odd combination (salad had a very American flavor imo). Lots of beers on tap. Staff was friendly and accommodating. It was nice they had the Astros game on the TVs

My husband and I came here for dinner on a weekday. There was plenty of space. Our table was a little bit dirty, but not a big deal. A quick wipe down is good. Our waitress was very sweet and kind. Our food came out very quickly too. The food overall was meh and typical. The thing that sticks out the most for me was the salad but not enough for me to drive an hour to. The beef was tender but not as flavorful. The eggrolls tasted as expected. The fried rice had a slight kick to it. If you're in the area already, it's not a bad place to stop at for a quick meal but their food just didn't seem memorable enough to want to come again next month. Parking is tight, small , but free out front.

Shrimp, White Rice, and Kale Salad

Came in for lunch on a Friday. The restaurant was lively but they have ample seating so our group of 5 was seated immediately. Our waiter was nice and pretty attentive given how busy it was. I ordered their Shaking Shrimp with steamed rice and a kale salad. The shrimp had a really good flavor, but the portion size was quite small. The rice was a bit crunchy and undercooked. The kale salad had a good flavor and the nuts added a nice crunch. Overall, I'd definitely give it another try.

Chicken tender basket. Cold fries. No ketchup.

I had to put my 17 y.o. cat to sleep & wanted some comfort food. I stopped driving and ordered a chicken tender basket when I was 5 minutes away. I wanted hot fries. I was shocked when I was told that it would be 20 minutes at 4:05. I assumed that it would be slow customer wise at that time of day.I didn't check my order when they brought it to my car. No ketchup. Doesn't almost everyone want ketchup with their fries? The gravy was barely enough for the chicken. To add insult, my fries were not hot. It was like the fries were waiting on the tenders. It was so disappointing. The cream gravy was so so. It did not hit the spot as comfort food. I'll give them one more try with tumeric fish. If I receive cold food again, I'm done.

You're able to bring in your own food as well, but we came here for Tuesday Steak night from Modestos Grill. $30 for a ribeye + choice of potato or salad. The salad was actually quite a large portion and potato was baked nicely and came with all the fix'ns. Steak was seasoned really well and cooked to my preference of medium. There's plenty of tvs inside and outside so you can find any type of sports you're looking for as you guzzle down your beverages. Speaking of beverages, there's roughly 30+ beers on tap and just about every kind of spirit you can think of. Self-serve water coolers are available when you need to hydrate yourself if you've had one too many drinks. There's also a food truck here for eats with rotations (check the website for the schedule). It's pet friendly as well and they have drink specials every day. Bartenders are pretty attentive; I've never had issues getting a drink here, even when it's gotten slammed for NFL sunday or college football. Glad this is in my neck of the woods for sports watching and drinking.

We had the ribeyes, mash potato, mac and cheese, green beans, and French fries. The steak was seasoned perfectly and grilled to the perfect temperature to my liking. We came on a Tuesday evening and it wasn't too busy. They have a Tuesday special that includes 1 large 1-topping pizza, 1 medium specialty pizza, and 1 order of focaccia breadsticks, all for $37.99. This is more than enough to feed a family of 4. We came as a group of 7 and ordered an additional medium specialty pizza in addition to this, and everyone left well-fed. For our large pizza, we got the Classic Pepperoni. No complaints here, as it's your standard pepperoni pizza. For our specialty pizzas, we got the South Austin and the Ground Control. The South Austin had a red sauce, prosciutto, goat cheese, and arugula, all drizzled in a vinaigrette. This was delicious, as we've had similar ones to this at other pizza joints around Houston, but I appreciate the touch that Aviator added to theirs. The Ground Control had a red sauce, pepperoni, sausage, onions, bell peppers, mushrooms, ham, and ground beef. This is basically a supreme pizza with the addition of ground beef, so think of it the baby of a meat lover's pizza and a veggie lover's pizza. I do really like the crust on their pizzas - a good middle-ground between thin crust and pan pizza. With that said, the crust held up well considering the amount of toppings that came out on our specialty pizzas. The focaccia breadsticks were tasty and the marinara sauce on the side was perfect for dipping. Service was very friendly between the two gentlemen working behind the counter. They brought out our pizzas straight from the oven and cleaned our plates as we finished them. The bar has a variety of beers on draft and a decent wine selection. Happy hour runs until 6pm during the week, which is $1 off drafts and $6 house margaritas. On the night we went, they were out of several of the draft beers - hopefully this is not a regular issue. I tried the happy hour margarita and the Aviator house wine - both were great and a much cheaper alternative to ordering drinks at the movie theater. I'm glad we found this place - I'm sure it will become a regular spot before we hit the movies. While we have our favorite pizza spots inside the loop, this is another solid option to consider that's located just outside the loop.
