They fixed a few cracks and put a flexible base coat it before spraying a new color coat on. It took about a week. When Pat inspected it he wasn't happy with the color uniformity (evidently this can happen with darker colors). I thought it looked good and would even out over time but he straightened me out on that. He sent his crew back out to fog the whole house and it came out really nice. We were getting the exterior of our house repainted so we wanted to address projects that have been on our To-Do list. Years ago, we had our AC units relocated to another part of the yard / house so while the units were gone and the pipes closed, they were still sticking out of the wall. After reviewing a half dozen stucco companies, we hired Pat and his team to properly remove the unsightly pipes and repair the stucco on the side of the house. Additionally, in the process of preparing the house for painting, we removed a ton of bougainvillea and shrubs that were along the house and retaining wall so they can paint. Once removed, it uncovered a lot of stucco damage to our retaining wall so I reached out to Pat to have those added to the job. To add to the chaos, we were getting our roof AND whole exterior part of the house pressure washed so I wanted to make sure that didn't conflict with the work that Pat and his team were going to do. Pat was very accommodating with our schedule and put our mind at ease that all would be fine with the timing of everything else going on. Carlos and Jose P. came to do the job on a Friday and went right to work prepping the area before any work was done. Carlos repaired the retaining wall and was a master at cleaning up the corners and edges to match the rest of the wall. You can't even tell that there were any cracks or chips -- and he color matched the wall perfectly. It looks like a brand new wall! The side of the house...oh my goodness! More perfection. We've been looking at these ugly pipes and the terrible stucco patch job for years and it was such a relief to finally have them gone. Better yet, it looks as if they were never there!! Jose did such an INCREDIBLE JOB on the stucco - we could not have asked for better. Yes, we could have just left and painted over and all would have been fine but hiring Pat and his team was the right call and we are so happy with the work done. Our painters came the following Monday and they were really impressed with the work done too and asked for Pat's number. I was more than happy to pass along and I will continue to recommend Pat whenever I can. I know I went to a lot of detail but I just wanted to accurately express how much we appreciated Pat and his team. So many times we hire contractors and while we are thrilled the project is done, you feel meh about the work. Not at all the case here. Have an upper fixed window with a cracked seal between the dual panes allowing moisture and condensation. Was quoted to replace the dual panes and seal and because of a leak in heavy rains, the glass company suggested a leak test to see if the stucco rather than the widow was the cause. Began looking for Stucco repairs and Pat Hughen was the only one out of three calls that returned my call. Pat came out performed the leak test himself. The leak was due to the existing stucco. His crew replaced materials including the paper and wire underneath the stucco. Before they could complete the finish work and color matching we got tested with a big rain storm and no leaks! Pat's crew did an excellent job on a big stucco repair project for our 30 year old home. The repairs included removing and redoing some awful patching that the previous owner had totally messed up around several windows and a big sliding glass door and replacing much of the weep screed on about 1/3 of our house that had been damaged from moisture, as well as doing some miscellaneous patching around our house to ready it for painting. The guys were fast, efficient, extremely clean and super friendly to our 2 big dogs and our toddler. We got three bids prior to hiring Hughen Plastering, and although the bids were all very close in price, Hughen was the most reasonable of the three. I am updating this rating to a 3 as Pat contacted me and apologized for the mishandling of the project. He offered to work with me on the project again and explained that he had bigger projects he had already signed up which clashed with my dates. He said that he thought my project was going to start a couple of days later than we had originally agreed on and the new dates would have clashed with his other projects. This was avoidable - I had only proposed a two day delay to give me time to arrange a few things - if I was told that this was enough to slip his schedules, I could have easily gone back to the agreed upon date. Hopefully, in the future, he does a better job of communicating with his customers (instead of just backing out abruptly) so that they can at least know which dates clash and try to work out mutually acceptable dates. read more

Due to a series of unfortunate events, we were not able to start the project until this July. All the other contractors jacked up their original quotes. Based on the Yelp reviews, I called Pat and he responded quickly, looked at my 8' by 8' bathroom for a tape, mud and texture of the ceiling and two walls. All good so far until he shagged Carlos ( Ace benchwarmer from the "B" Team ) off another big job to cover my little job. Carlos showed up with the Company work truck and quickly mudded the job in a couple of hours, we fed him lunch and tipped him. He was gone in four and a half hours, promising to return the next day. Carlos returned to texture the next morning, worked quickly and hurried off in two hours. Job done. It was crap. When we really looked at the work he did it was clear that he really had no clue about plastering. There were gobs of mud hanging from the ceiling, lumpy spots on the walls, little missed spots......it was a joke. Pat came around the next day with an invoice for three times Carlos' daily rate. I showed Pat the crappy job that his guy did on our new bathroom and he did the shoulda-woulda-coulda response, not offering to make it right or send somebody else over to fix my job. Nothing. Carlos made Hughen Plastering look bad and Hughen failed in the "customer satisfaction" department. They played me cheap. Never again for these bozos. read more

Hughen came and provided a recoloring of our stucco exterior. The house is 4700 sq ft so it was a big job for $3800. We got an independent quote on paint for $5300 from guys we don't even think were licensed. The surface they applied is meant to recoat stucco so it can still breathe (water splashed on it looks matte where it beads on paint). The crew was extremely polite, professional, responsive and courteous. Before the work, they brought several samples they had made for us, and applied to textured boards so we could pick the right one. After that, they tested it on several areas so we could see how it looked front and back in different lighting. I asked them after the fact how any future damage might be touched up and they offered to touch up whenever or to bring materials for us to do it ourselves. Service was performed promptly. They did a great job and our windows and decking (both brand new) emerged unscathed. The color looks great and is uniform. The only thing that I can say was not totally perfect was a bit of fascia board paint came off with the masking tape used to screen it in one area and a few small rocks we used as ground cover got a spot or two--big deal.
