I Called in the morning about an existing addition that seems to have exacerbated in the past few weeks. I was told they had an opening at 1 PM today, if I could come in? Of course! I was seen at the appointed time. The technician, I don't recall her name, she asked a few questions and took notes, and began the preliminary procedures for the doctor. Sanitizing the equipment and wearing PPE. The opthamologist, Dr. Scheer, came into the examination room a few minutes after the technician was finished. The Dr continued with certain tests and measurements. Then went over the prognosis, suggesting corrective procedures to be done in the near future. I feel I was with the doctor, a sufficient amount of time; informed of what was to be done and a follow up appointment made next month. The office runs in a very efficient manner. They are considerate of the patient's time, informing the patient, in plain English, what the condition is, the prognosis, and treatment, if needed, The front office submits Medicare approved amounts for treatments, as well as Blue Cross/ Blue Shield, Anthem medical Coverage. Some patients may have copay's depending on their plan. It's a joy, and relief to be able to see an operation that runs smoothly and efficiently. read more

I would like to echo this review... "One thing I learned from life is that when the Staff runs the practice, that's when a patient should run for the hills." As of today it has taken over a month to fulfill my perscription that was perscribed at this office. After 8 calls to the office I was connected with a technician who decided within 15 seconds that I had an attitude and I should address her as a professional. They immediately raised there voice and rattled off how hard they had been working on fulfilling my difficult perscription No concern for my well being or the fact that they were unable to get a drug that I needed. Only the fact that she was doing her job and that they perceived I had an attitude. This person even went as far as giving me the drug representative's name and that I should call them. Hopefully this person just bad day. But I suggest that somebody at HVES explains to their employee that if they want to be treated as a professional they should act like one. Hopefully the next time they talk to a unsuspecting patient who is having a difficult time they treat them a little more respect and kindness. read more

One thing I learned from life is that when the Staff runs the practice, that's when a patient should run for the hills. I wasn't impressed with the retinal specialist despite his being quite amical. Mostly because of the chronic cancellations without notifications. But that's nothing in comparison to impressing upon me the urgency of monthly checkups despite his unavailability for 6 months. I wasn't impressed with another ophthalmologist who, after removing an object embedded in my iris, didn't have the forethought of prescribing antibiotics. Or probably knew that the ensuing infection would result in additional visits. Let's say I'm NOT impressed with this practice, particularly with the rudeness of one particular staff member who LOVES that I'm going elsewhere and as a last hurrah gave me an incorrect email addy to have my medical records transferred. Seeing my new ophthalmologist in a few days who had already expressed concern about my vision and medical neglect. read more

I had Dr Nichols evaluate me for my cataracts and he fixed my astigmatism in the first eye as well as my cataract today .. there are ample competent & sufficient office staff & doctors that are friendly as well.. I will post update as my vision adjusts.. Dr Nichols was very respectful and so was his staff & I'm a person who asks a lot of questions .. Only one tech(young woman) was not very friendly but I dealt with it .. I did budget two hours for my first appointment only because there was surgery involved and the appt was on time read more

I'd been going to HVES so long, that until I recently switched providers, I didn't realize what a difference a personalized personable experience, would make. Let's start here: i've been wearing glasses since the 3rd grade, and contact lenses since the 8th. I'd seen two of the opthamologists at HVES for almost 20 years. But in 20 years, I'm pretty darn sure these docs had no clue who i was every time I walked in there. Not their fault, in the busy world of ocular correction, I was and would continue to be, one in a stream of patients who walked through their doors. What was interesting, that it felt like they frankly didn't care that i'd been a loyal customer/patient for that long. Okay, whatevs, maybe i'm sensitive. But how was the overall experience? Well, I always had to wait in the waiting room - and then i waited in a second room - so essentially I was seen 15 to 20'ish minutes after my appointment time. le sigh. When the doc walked in, he'd stare at my chart and ask what was up, look at my eyes and then within those 5 minutes, would tell me: 1) whether my eyes were better, worse or the same 2) that i should totally get eye surgery since i'm 'of the best possible age!' 3) that i should really really think about getting eye surgery since it's fan-friggin-tastic. k. uh -well, eye surgery costs a lot so maybe we could consider, talking about how soft-contacts might change my life, since these hard ones felt like i was shoving needles in my eyes with each poke... insert *bored* face and start rote memorized content: 'because i have terrible astigmatism, soft contacts probably wouldn't work for me' and really would be a waste of time. I'd nod and smile and shuffle out the door, towards the glasses which are either super beautiful but expensive OR those which potentially, haven't changed since 1998 - but ARE covered by my insurance plan (because Moses himself crafted those fine optical specimens) and, then i'd come back again and do it all again next year. No more! I recently switched providers and found that personalized service IS out there! You just have to look! I know HVES covers every insurance known to man, and if you stick with 'em, I wouldn't hold it against you - I was a patient for a loooong time. Just some points for you to ponder. Being 25 miles away from their Fishkill location, an extra appointment means a 50 mile trip out of my way. That's my time, gas and tolls. Needing to see two of their doctors, it was natural to ask to see them on the same day. However, they refused to allow this saying that my insurance would not cover it. I contacted my health insurer and they said that that was not true. And let's use some good old fashion logic: those in the hospital are seen by multiple doctors every day. After having been a patient here for 30 years, one would expect better treatment. read more

I hadn't been here in many years but was having a lot of eye strain and felt I needed to update my prescription, so when I found out they took my insurance, I made an appointment. I got one right away and was even told where to go on the web site if I wanted to fill out the forms in advance (which I did). It made checking in so much faster and I was seen within 5 or 10 minutes. The appointment itself was long and VERY thorough. I wasn't so sure about the technician at first, but when I saw the doctor I was VERY pleased. Dr. Palmiero was very knowledgeable and very thorough. He explained everything and addressed all the concerns I had about my changing vision and the fact that contact lenses were no longer comfortable (dry eyes). It was one of the better eye exams I'd had in years. I'll be picking up my glasses at the Optical there this week and I'm hopeful that they'll work out because the last two pair of glasses and contacts I've gotten at a nearby optical haven't done the trick so far! read more

I have been coming here for 12 years and while I like the service and attention to detail when you finally get in for your appointment, it is ridiculous and unacceptable that you sit in multiple waiting rooms for your appointment. You literally need to budget 2 hours for a 30 minutes appointment read more

They pulled - attempted - a classic bait and switch. In making the appointment for eye exam, I went over in detail my insurance coverage, they said they participate, and their website says they participate. But when I arrived, while they said they participate din my insurance, they gave me a "waiver" to sign that I agreed to waive billing my insurance for the eye exam and would be responsible for the bill. I left, called my insurance company, who called HVES. HVES told my insurance company that it is their policy to make the patient self-pay and only bill the insurance if they find a medical condition - which you don't generally find in a routine eye exam. Interesting, the waiver that they want you to sign does not include that statement, only that you - the patient - waive billing your insurance. Nice little scam.... read more

I arrived at 4:15 PM for a 4:30 PM appointment with Dr. Nichols. I did not get called in until approximately 5:30 PM. the tech who was very sweet and efficient did the preliminary tests. I had been a regular patient of Dr. Nichols for over two years. The tech wanted to check my eye pressure with an eye pressure pen, I said to the tech I do not want to have my eye pressure checked by the pen and that I wanted it checked by the machine like I always have done and Dr. Nichols has done countless times while examining me. I have extremely dry eyes and have been dealing with this for years I recently got a corneal erosion which is very painful and I am still healing from it my left eye is still blurry and painful at times. I did not want the use of the eye pressure pen because I cannot take anything being placed on my extremely sensitive eyes and wanted to get my eye pressure checked the traditional way through the machine. The tech returned to the room a few minutes later and said Dr. Nichols said that if you do not do the eye pressure pen he is refusing to see you today and said you can go see another eye doctor. I find this to be extremely cold, Uncompassionate, and poor bedside manner not to mention it seems quite unethical. I left the room speechless. How could a doctor be so uncaring? Especially since he has been my eye doctor and has known the issues I have been struggling with these past couple months with my eyes? That he refused to see me and have treatment? Also he has always done my eye pressure by the machine. He had the audacity to have me waiting to see him over an hour and then refused to see me. Please BEWARE Of this extremely cold And uncaring doctor with zero personality. I do not understand how he can be a doctor but I am going to also report him to the American medical Association. read more

For Lasik surgery, you really should do your research and go somewhere else. They charge outrageous prices for standard Lasik and use the line, "you get what you pay for." The facts, however, will show there are many qualified eye surgery locations these days and some more qualified and at much more reasonable prices with more modern techniques than standard. read more

Shady! They told both my wife and me that they "participate" in our insurance plan. It turns out they don't "accept" our insurance, though. Which, of course, they totally knew, but figured they could pull one over on us. Which they did. Over a couple hundred bucks for a routine eye exam. Don't trust them! read more

i have been going to Dr Nichols for many years i never had a problem with him he is very friendly also. i would highly recommend them the only problem i had was a few times when i came in early they had made me wait a long tome & there was some aids that were very rude but most are very nice & sweet read more

I find, not only the Doctors, but their complete staff absolutely Fabulous. I had to have cataract surgery, but also had several issues with my eyes. I purchased, extra surgery (my terms) so that I would not have to wear glasses. Unfortunately, because of the issues I had with my eyes, I had to have extra work done for better vision. My Doctor spent a lot of time with me to give me the best vision possible. I AM EXTREMELY HAPPY. I felt the technicians were professional, courteous and made me feel very comfortable. I never had to wait more than 10 minutes to be called in for the Pre-doctor workup, which is very comforting. Yes, as others have stated, sometimes there is a longer wait in the examining room; but I also know from experience that not everyone is a 10 minute exam, and sometimes extra time has to be spent with a patient. I am one of those patients, I needed a little laser correction and the doctor did it during my exam, rather than make me come back for a 5 minute procedure. Kudos to the Doctors for making patients feel the practice cares about them. To those that who to wait a few extra minutes, start realizing that not everyone is able to hurry in and out. Relax and be happy you may only have to have an exam and not surgery. read more

Brought my mom for cataract surgery. She had her right eye done and she was complaining after the surgery of pain, then 4 days later, she went blind in her eye. Hudson valley eye surgeons claimed it had nothing to do with her eye surgery and it probably was a blood clot. The front people are very rude also, they are like mafia demanding they get paid first. Will have a lawsuit with these people. read more

My daughter and I are or were patients of Dr Nicholas. Couple mounts ago my daughters right eye got red and itchy so I made an appointment with doctor Nicholas. When we got there he examined my daughter eye and said to my daughter stand up I'm going to take you outside from the back door I do not want you to exit by the main lobby!!! I do not want you to contaminate my office !! I asked why? Why my daughters eye is red? he didn't said anything until we stared walking and he said her eye is infected And she probably got it at school I do not even want you to pay your copay we will send you the bill at home and a prescription to the pharmacy!! My daughter who is just 15 stared crying in the parking lot she was extremely upset . Dr Nicholas treat us like criminals and I'm sure that in his whole career this was not the first time he saw an eye infection. No doctor treat us like that never ever he is very rude and cold . read more

I wish I was able to give less than one star. I was their patient for more than 2 years. Front line staff is very unprofessional. They insisted on wrongfully trying to charge me a $49 fee for a regular eye exam to discover that they didn't know what they were talking about. I advise to go somewhere else. read more

AFter looking on the MULTIPLAN network for my ins , and finding this office, I called and spoke to a wonderful , kind , young woman named Heather how took my info, CONFIRMED this office excepted my ins and I went ahead and made an appt. This appt was confirmed by this office by way of robotics, not human. ( not a problem for me ) I arrive at the office 30 minutes BEFORE I was scheduled ( I always give myself exrta time at new offices) At the desk I was greeted so poorly by an older female who was clearly ANNOYED that I had printed all of the health form papers from the website as I was instructed to do & this was an obvious problem for her??????? even though the EYE BALL pic they have as their "symbol" on the signs , door and business cards, this women insisted on LOUDLY asking me where I got them! Standing at this desk, the same woman went on & on LOUDLY about how she "KNEW" my ins will not pay for the exam.....LOUDLY asked me if my son or I "had a problem" that they could charge the ins "medically," this woman was lucky I was tired and in a pretty good mood.....ignoring her I sat down in the wait area. My son & I where called in to have the screening, son went first, too bad the young female "S" was half dressed.......her breasts not covered at all for a professional medical office...... After realizing her next patient was ME, apparently these folks do not have clue as to who they are seeing.......sooo many rooms, they where all filled , that I was put in a room in the back of office where the was no foot traffic......I stood in the doorway to alert DR we where there, "S" had "forgotten" to turn on the light which alerts the Dr PT is in room. DR N himself was pleasant & professional........too bad I have judged him on the whole package, but the nurses & receptionist do reflect the office ( my opinion) Upon leaving the young girl was pleasant & asked if I had a copay.....curious when I said no, she called the first LOUD woman in to look at my card.......here ONCE AGAIN HER ATTITUDE WAS deserving of a smack, because now IN FRONT of my son, LOUDLY she said again that "she didnt think that my ins was going to pay " !!!!! I, rather than argue with her ( which is what I wanted to do ) I smiled & told the young girl to have a good night & out we went........ If you do not want to be embarrassed , or feel uncomfortable or made to feel like a second class anything...think twice before choosing this office. read more

I am a medical provider in Westchester county, formerly in Dutchess county. If I ever have a patient with an ocular emergency I always send them to Hudson Valley Eye Surgeons. Even at 4:45 on a Friday afternoon they always say "send them right down." They never turned them away for any reason including Worker's Comp. or insurance. They are caring and consummate professionals whose the main concern is the vision of their patients. Even though I am in Westchester County I continue to send my patients with acute ocular problems to this office in Fishkill. I would not send them anywhere else. The staff is excellent and always answers the phone when it rings. There is no recording, ever. They provide comprehensive eyecare from dry eye to cataracts to Macular degeneration.I am a patient of the group as well and would never consider going anywhere else. I have been going to HVES for years. I have always put up with the long waits and unprofessional office staff because I felt it was worth seeing the particular doctor that I liked. However, I am now "done" with dealing with an office that does not return phone calls, provide any assistance in helping with your contacts or eye glass questions. Not to mention you can never speak with the doctor directly EVER! Everything is a hassle in dealing with this office. Not to mention, I feel like I am just a "number" now. The doctor hardly spends the time on my eye exams like he/she used to either. read more
