I honestly didn't expect too much from this place, but it's charming, old style and a mix of Midwest and PNW just a couple miles from downtown Seattle. We didn't have usual breakfast items, but tried two of their sandwiches - patty melt with some cheese grits and brisket with fries on the side. I love Hudson. Open now for brunch, it's a 21+ venue with hearty and generous portions. There are comfy booths and lots of seating at the bar. The bartender is extremely friendly and the food is downright addictive. I got the shrimp and cheesy grits this time and it did not disappoint. I practically licked my plate clean, it was so freaking delicious. I usually have to add hot sauce to my grits, but this one had a great kick of spiciness and was prepared perfectly. Found Hudson through an instagram post and the food looked too good to not try! The staff were all super friendly and welcoming. This place was packed for Saturday brunch and you can only waitlisting by writing your party down on the list at the desk. We were offered seats at the bar that just opened up so we got to sit down and order sooner. We ordered a couple of drinks which were tasty and went well with our hefty meals. The portions were big, as is the norm at American style diners, and piping hot! My chicken fried steak was so amazingly crispy and the gravy complemented it well. It really itched that scratch that I'd had for chicken fried steak for the last few years. My partner got the brisket omelette and absolutely demolished his plate. He described it as delicious, with the brisket being perfectly tender and the omelette going amazingly with the hot sauce provided on the counter. Not very kind staff and wouldn't recommend going here. They were very disrespectful towards my fiance and laughed at her as if she was "falsifying" her age, when her ID clearly states she is 22 years old. I called before asking if there is a waitlist at the restaurant, and they stated it was very slow and they don't have a waitlist. When we arrived they shared we had to get on the waitlist, and later told us they don't accept vertical ID's. They had no signs saying this is the case at all. read more

Me and three friends, all over 21, walked into this restaurant and were immediately stopped by a woman who told us we couldn't be there because it was 21 and over. We told her we were 21 and handed her our IDs. She looked at my friend's ID, paused, and then smirked and said, "No, you're not 21." My friend said, "Yes, I am," and the woman looked again, realized she was wrong, and handed it back without saying anything. Then she told us we had to put our names on the waitlist, even though we had already called ahead and were told there was no wait. As I was writing our names down, she came back and said, "Actually, we don't accept vertical IDs." This was by far the most unprofessional and rude experience all three of us have had. Breakfast for 6 on a Friday morning. This place is 21 & over only which we (childless older couples) enjoyed, LOL. It's a small-ish place with a rustic vibe; we sat inside but they have a patio. The breakfast cocktails were outstanding. The food was amazing! Substantial and filling but not "American style/over the top." I'd give these guys two stars if it wasn't for my previous experience at Smarty Pants. These high reviews are clearly coming from people too drunk to know better, or from a long line of bad cooks, who make TV dinners taste like a holiday meal. This place is small, but it's probably a good idea since the food is so weak, a larger spot would give the impression that this place was dead. Everyone working here was really nice, the problem today was 100% what I was served. They had a breakfast Taco special and it came highly recommended. After a long wait. The hashbrowns tasted old. They weren't crisp despite being brown and they had zero seasoning. I don't care if it's a pinch, you season potatoes. Also, don't cook up a griddle full knowing eventually you'll have a customer,cook it hot and fresh. The taco's weren't bad, but it was almost impossible to detect any Chorizo, furthermore, when I found the meat and tasted it, it was just ground sausage, there was nothing spices of Mexican about it. The dominating flavor was the canned refried beans. These dry tacos would have been better with salsa, but despite having it, it wasn't included. This place is in the middle of nowhere and has to have niche clientele. We were on our way to SODO, so it was convenient. That said the food was horrible and reflective of the same flavorless poorly cooked fare we previously had at Smarty Pants. read more

My new favorite brunch spot. Too much fun! Is that a thing for a brunch spot? Npt for me. Located in the industrial area near Georgetown and just outside West Seattle this restraunt is super fun and hip. Plenty of street parking outside and easy to find. Just look for the old morgue sign, lol. Super cool atmosphere with music playing and apparently no kids allowed as it is 21 and over. Sort of has a dive bar vibe too. My favorite! Service is really friendly and welcoming. Sitting at a table the seating is close. No worries as it adds to the party atmosphere that is friendly and fun. The music was playing pretty loud and my friend and I had to talk quite loudly to hear eachother. But the music was good and the bloody mary spicy so it didn't matter. Their bloody mary comes with a little side of beer (see photos) which was super yummy and fun to sip after a spicy bloody mary. They have a full bar too! Loads of beer on tap and the drinks were flowing all around. I ordered the breakfast tacos. More like two little breakfast burritos. Full of fluffy scrambled eggs, sausage, and cheese. A nice piece of crispy hashbrowns on the side. The scrambled eggs my friend ordered were not as tasty as my breakfast. Boo, but the rye toast was yummy and good with jelly. This spot is heck of fun everyone! I did read that sometimes there is a line and I don't doubt it. By the time I arrived the place had filled up. Hudson is a wonderful choice for weekend brunch! My husband and I showed up on a Saturday around 10:30 AM. There was a wait, but it wasn't that bad. Near the entrance on Hudson street, there is a list where you can write your name down. This place is pretty small and the tables are close together, but all of the customers were pretty chill and it seemed like a bunch of regulars. They also have a really nice wrap around bar in the center of the room. I ordered the Federal Scramble (three eggs, button mushrooms, tomato, spinach, and parmesan cheese) which is served with hash browns and toast (buttermilk, 8 grain, english muffin, or rye) and a coffee. I really enjoyed my food and would definitely order the same thing next time. Our waitress (the one with curly hair) was outstanding. She took our order promptly, kept our coffee mugs full, brought the food to our table quickly, and made paying the check super easy. We were really impressed since the place was packed. We had a great time and I would highly recommend this place to others. read more

First time here. It's small, but nice atmosphere. Different from many places I've been. They were on top of the coffee making sure you had more than a half of cup. I had the biscuit & gravy. It's not the normal B&G that you get from other places. The gravy had a kick to it, so if you don't do spicy...I wouldn't recommend this. My better half had the traditional chic fried steak. It's top with white gravy, comes with eggs & hash brown with that same kick as my B&G. So when you Oder and you don't care for spice, I think you can request for plain hash browns... not 100% on that. The food was good all in all. The mimosa was perfect but for $10 for this tiny glass doesn't seem fair. I would come here again and try other stuff on the menu which BTW is simple. read more

A refreshing place to eat...and they always have a great music playlist that aligns with moi. I get excited whenever I have time to eat lunch here. My fave is the Texas cheeseburger with a side salad and sometimes fries if I'm feeling super hungry. The prices are reasonable and won't break the bank. Once while eating here, Melinda Gates was casually blending in, eating lunch using her secret power of the low key PNW esthetic. The service is generally decent with low wait times. If you're the impatient type and it shows, the waitresses get a little snarky...but God Bless them, I could never do that job as I'd get fired the first time a customer acted entitled. I went here for a colleague's birthday during lunch hour. It was busy but we were still able to find a seat. We were given menus and greeted when we sat ourselves down. I had the oyster burger and it was perfection minus the oysters trying to escape. They had a shrimp and veggie po boy which made me wonder why they didn't make an oyster po boy. I think it wouldn't be as messy and make a more effective food vessel to shove in my mouth! :) the fries were also good with a good amount of salt. The only downside is that I had asked for sprite or 7up and when I drank it, it just tasted like soda water. There was no sweetness in it. Overall great! When you arrive while parking, don't be surprised if you feel like this restaurant seems like it's in the middle of nowhere with no other restaurants around. I liked the casual diner feel of the restaurant. We came here for brunch over the weekend so it was pretty busy for Sunday at 12pm. We put our name down and probably waited for a good 20-30 minutes for a table of two. When we finally got seated and ordered maybe 5-10 mins later, it took them over 30 minutes to get our food out. We ordered the deep fried french toast, chicken fried steak and a side of hashbrowns to share. The french toast was delicious and was probably my favorite dish overall. I was disappointed with the hashbrowns because when you look at pictures of it online, it looks really crispy but in reality it was quite soggy for hashbrowns, maybe you can ask them to make it extra crispy? I was also not very impressed by the chicken fried steak. The steak itself wasn't fried well, it was also kind of soft and soggy cutting into and eating it. The gravy they poured on top of it was very salty so I couldn't eat much of it. The biscuit was bland and the scrambled eggs were fine. Overall, I most likely wouldn't come back here, but if you are in the area and can't find anywhere else to eat maybe check it out and order the french toast and other items on the menu. read more

Have been to Hudson a few times before when I wasn't yelping so long over due for a review three times for brunch and dinner. Tried to bring a friend her on a Sunday but as all you know that's impossible unless you want to wait a long time. We lucked out the Friday after Thanksgiving at 10:30am and my friend had been wanting to go here for awhile finally got to. Brunch is always consistently good here. My friend with the Hudson Classic with grits and loved the grits he ordered a side of bacon that was initially forgotten but quickly addressed. Had a taste of the grits very cheesy and full of flavor. I went with the SODO a short stack with two eggs any style and bacon. Which proved to be more than I could eat. I'm not one to order pancakes but they sounded good this morning. These were very generously sized and cooked well tasted like buttermilk. The eggs were poached a little harder than I personally like but were still yolky. Coffee and water were always filled. Heard the Bloody Marys are supposed to be good may have to try one next time. read more

From a breakfast perspective, come with a healthy appetite; say haven't eaten in a few days or only want one big meal for the day as the portions are on the larger side with pancakes that cover an entire 10-12 inch plate. Hudson is a American-style diner + pub with horseshoe bar with tables and booths around the windows. This diner + pub fits perfectly in the SoDo industrial area where you can have breakfast, lunch or after-work drinks. Don't expect to find a vegan, gluten free, soy free, antibiotics free, raw, non GMO, organic, fat free, low carb meal at Hudson; although they might be able to pull one off. This is for a hardy appetite that wants a good meal with a beer of cocktail. I came for the breakfast and I wanted to try the Chicken Fried Steak (CFS) since I come from Texas and CFS is an endangered species in the Seattle area. The CFS here is a real tenderized steak with a deep fried breading crispy coating. Hudson must have a really hot deep frier as the CFS was cooked to perfection without a oily coating. The seasoning was spot on with a bit of subtle spicy taste from the gravy and just the right about of saltlyness. The CFS was the main event, but it comes with two eggs cooked as you wish and toast or english muffin. This is a lot of food and I had to have a second wind to finish off the CFS as I was about to take in home as left-overs; but I hate left-overs. We had coffee that was in a bottomless cup and although I don't know the brand of coffee, it was good and had a few cups without overdosing on caffeine. Not enough yet, lets try the Bloody Mary that comes with a small schooner of beer. It's okay Bloody Mary and it's a nice touch coming with the beer chaser; if you like Miller Lite. Hudson is a good place for breakfast flare although I've tried both the club sandwich and burger that MEH; unable to finish. I wished I had ate the breakfast entrees. read more

It's back to really terrible service here. I'm pretty certain the waitress with the long bangs is back. Sigh. We called to ask what the wait time was at 10 am on a Saturday. The woman who answered waited an awkwardly long time before responding, "There's no wait right now, but people just walked in the door, so I don't know what the wait will be when you get here." All she had to say was, "There's no wait right now." Before we could thank her or say anything else, she hung up on us. Sadly the person on the phone was kinda rude and cocky... wouldn't take a to go order over the phone and said they don't do to go orders but when asked if I could come in order and then take it to go he said I guess we could do that and box it up. Really want to like this place. Servers and atmosphere are great but the food is just plain awful. The Monte Christo is made with what seems to be frozen Sysco french toast. Menu says it comes with an egg on top but there wasn't one. Didn't care for one anyway so didn't ask about it. Biscuits are blah and the gravy is just gross. Basic breakfast includes toast but just one piece?!? Wondering if they just give you half an English muffin if ordered. Grits are gummy and pasty and seem reheated. Food comes out lukewarm and either overcooked or undercooked. Prices are high for quality. Have been probably at least a dozen times but giving up. read more
