If all the locals were talking about it I knew I needed to check it out. Oh Doughnuts is a small doughnut shop in Winnipeg. When I mean small, it's tiny. If you don't know what you're looking for you'll miss it and once you're inside there's barely room to leave the counter. We were told to come early because they close when they sell out and they always sell out. They've got some more common flavors for those who are more traditional in their tastes and then they've got some crazy and exciting ones and of course I wanted to try all of them. My friends and I went with half a dozen so we could try them all. I thought the Lemon Meringue or even Peanut Butter Marshmallow one would be my faves. While they were both amazing my favorite flavor was a more savory one. I am obsessed with their everything bagel doughnut. It just sounds like it shouldn't go together, but it totally does. If you want to know what's available follow them on Instagram. They post what flavors they're serving up with lots of droolworthy photos. If you're anywhere close I highly recommend stopping by. Just remember, get there early.

The unique thing about this place is that their menu changes daily. They have different kinds of donuts available, which are always posted on social media before doors open. I came here for brunch with two friends, and we shared the everything bagel doughnut casserole, plus the bacon egg and cheese doughnut. Both very unique dishes, albeit small portions. Very tasty though. This place was recently renovated and feels rather cozy, though there's not much in terms of decorations. I should definitely stop by often, it's such a (not so) hidden gem downtown.

I tried the Vegetarian skillet and asked for avocados to be added. I really love how the pan comes with padded silicone material around it so that you can't accidentally burn yourself by touching the hot surface of it. The proportions are generous! That also looked enticing! The waitresses were nice and the ambiance is casual and upbeat.

The menu is written on chalkboard, and the soup of the day is written in a separate chalkboard. I had the soup of the day (fire roasted tomato that day), a smoking jack sandwich, and a hot chocolate. The soup and the sandwich didn't amount to much at the end; the soup was fresh but lukewarm, while the sandwich wasn't anything special with the chicken being pre-cut pieces. Given the price I paid, it was definitely a bit steep for the quality I received. At least the hot chocolate was very good though. Not a bad place for a quiet sit down overall, but don't expect much in terms of quality food or service.

It's been awhile since I've been back, I was visiting Winnipeg and was actually meaning to go to a new coffee place across the street but for some reason was closed. I ended up at the back here. I ordered a latte. Place looked the same. Menu up on the board, desserts displayed behind the glass and a couple of workers behind the counter. Brought me back. I enjoyed my coffee seating on the bar facing Broadway, people watching and reminiscing.

What I got was a warm, soaked, untoasted bagel with a 1/8" of butter on it. I wish I got that generous a serving when I order cream cheese. I had to get a napkin and scrape off the soggy and cold slabs of butter. You'd think after 10 minutes I could get a fully toasted bagel or a fully cooked hash brown. Better luck next time.

The drinks are a bit on the pricey side and the sandwiches are even more pricey and there's not always a lot to choose from. I saw some seafood items once like a Lox Bagel and it was almost 10 dollars. They were out of croissant sandwiches but had regular individual croissant bread that sold for about 3 dollars. The atmosphere is on the quiet side. It seems to demand calm energy and talking seems to be on the minimum. On Hot Beverage Week, the first week of December I tried the "white hot chocolate peppermint chai latte" and it was pretty yummy. Here's an actual account of one of my experiences at this store; It's about 2 am, I'm just off a late shift, I walk in the store and I'm the only customer. I timed how long I waited there and it took them 10 minutes to come to the front and serve me. I could see the employees in the back. Clearly able to come help me. Too often I get the wrong food here. Not like a once in a while accident, like I have to check every time to see if it's right. Usually if it's right, it's done with half the effort. I order bagels and if I ask for butter or cream cheese they only put in the effort to put in on one side, just smush the two halves together and cut MOST of the way through the bagel. Never all the way. So I have a badly cut bagel with spread on half and the other half has nothing on it. They don't listen to any instructions. I've never had a pleasant encounter with these employees, they don't smile or try to be all that friendly. They're usually just dismissive.
