They made us a fresh pot of coffee, and the bacon was spot on. The waffles were sweet as always. Extremely friendly staff. Highly recommend.

We…read morerandomly scrolled on YouTube and watched someone rated this THE BEST in Texas so we had to check it out. What makes this place unique is that they use charcoal, have make their own rub, you can order as many ounces up to 32oz I believe, and they only sell ribeye steaks. The place is called the general store because that's what it used to be when first started doing business in the 1980s but later expanded and converted into a steakhouse. We got there at 4pm and there was a little bit of a line already. The restaurant is only open three days a week each day from 5:30 to 9. On Thursday they have fried catfish and Friday and Saturday they sell only steak. The minimum order starts at 10oz and each ounce increment is a little bit extra charge. We ordered the 24 ounce to be shared between the two of us total is about $70 and we still have some leftover. The charcoal flavor was not overpowering, but the seasoning of the steak was perfectly balanced. Usually, I eat my steak with extra pepper or chimichurri, but this one I was able to eat without any extra seasoning. The surface of the steak look heavily seared but the medium interior was really juicy and succulent. I could taste more char on the edge pieces. After the steak we headed to their second shop next door for some malt shake. I got the cookies n creame flavor, it was milky and not overly sweet like any other milkshakes. And the malt flavor lingers on the tongue after each sip. I was debating to get another one but chocolate flavor but I was too full. Service there overall was very welcoming, and dining area is really big, the interior feels like an old western cabin but very clean and spacious. Great for family gatherings too. They also have a BYOB offer for people who love some good sips along with the smokey steak.

Then the garlic mash potatoes and PERFECTLY cooked 10 oz sirloin came out. The steaks were cooked exactly to order. They had a pristine flavor, and the meat just melted in my mouth. The yeast roll looked like a roll but it was pretty heavenly too, especially with the steak drippings. Our server was super sweet and helpful! And the quaint "general store" is for locals and visitors alike!! Awesome steak night --perfect for a date night! Pass on dessert! Stick with best stuff! Pecan cobbler and peach cobbler were overly sweet! But they did come with a scoop Of vanilla ice cream on top!

This being a holiday weekend we expected it to be busy but our group of 4 adults and 2 kids were seated right away, around 6:45. We ordered drinks, soda and water. Drinks came about 30 minutes later the soda and water about 45. Our sever seemed a bit frazzled and we Finally ordered our food around 7:40. We ordered a few more drinks and waited, very patiently. The server mentioned getting us some biscuits a few times but they never made an appearance. By 8:30 the restaurant was pretty cleared out but no sign of any food. Still no food at 8:45 so we told our server if our order hadn't been started we would like to settle our drink bill and go. Then someone named Peyton (hostess??) told us our ticket had only been in for 37 minutes and it would be another 20 minutes until our order would be done. I'm not sure if our server got busy and forgot to put in our order or what happened but we had been waiting an hour snd now it was going to be another 20 minutes. We said we couldn't wait any longer and requested our order be cancelled. When my daughter went to pay for the drinks Peyton told her to never come back. She was shocked and told my son-in-law who then went back in to talk to Peyton. The owner then joined in and basically repeated "never come back". After reading several reviews I guess I'll join the distinguished list of patrons who complained and were told to "never come back". If you do dare to try the Harbor Restaurant I recommend you eat a snack ahead of time as you may be waiting quite a long time for your meal!

Dakotas, to me, has always been understood as the classic bougie restaurant of Tyler. I've driven…read morepast it off Old Bullard Road many times, but I have never eaten there. Being a kid in Tyler, your parents don't ever casually suggest Dakotas as a place to stop and eat. It's their private date night spot if they feel fancy. It's for them and them alone. They moved out of Tyler a few years ago, and now I am in control of my choices and my destiny. They had a $200 gift card to Dakotas that they never got around to using before they moved out. Foolish of them. I swiped that sucker and booked a reservation in the same breath. While visiting Tyler for an extended weekend, I got a table for two on Saturday at 6:30 with my girlfriend. Upon entry, they have free valet, but I'm too normal of a person to do that. We were seated pretty quickly after getting there, right around our reservation, at a table that put our backs toward the wall and blocked us from other tables, giving us a little more privacy than a typical restaurant. We both got our first drinks of the night ordered with an appetizer of their fried calamari. I got an Elder Fashioned, an elderflower and gin-based drink styled like an old fashioned. I love an elderflower-based drink, but sometimes they can be a little too over the top and bright purple or pink. I liked how subtle and classic this one felt. My girlfriend got a Choc-nilla Old Fashioned with chocolate and vanilla bitters. It was sweeter than her normal old fashioned, obviously, but she thought it was incredibly tasty. As we waited for our appetizer, we enjoyed some of their bread, which was a tall and beautiful loaf with garlic butter on top. It was very delightful. The amount of fried calamari they served us was insane. Way more than either of us needed. It could easily serve four to six people versus the two of us. The marinara sauce on the side was great, but it paled in comparison to their red pepper aioli cream sauce that I swear you could drink. Typically, fried calamari can look like weird onion rings, while the ones here were more straight. We both had a Caesar salad that was maybe a little well dressed, but with some cracked pepper on top, it was very good and worth it between the calamari and our entrees. For our entrees, we both had their soft shell crabs. Their crabs were fantastic and something I have never had before. I thought they served us a little more angel hair pasta alongside the crab than I needed, but I won't complain about extra food. I was super impressed by the flavors and the crispiness of the crabs. To wrap up our night at Dakotas, I ordered a Paloma that was sharp and classic, while my girlfriend ordered a Black Widow, a tequila and hibiscus drink with some muddled jalapeños that was quite a heater. Not a drink for the faint of heart. A lot of the food and options at Dakotas have a little bit of spice to them, so be warned! As we were leaving, we noticed a musician playing on the patio. I thought how nice the patio at Dakotas would be for a few cocktails after dinner elsewhere. That almost seems idiotic, though, because Dakotas is excellent. If you have an opportunity to give Dakotas a chance as a Tyler resident, I recommend it. Between the two of us, with our entrees, our salads, our appetizer, our four drinks in total, and our tip, we were below $200, which, to me, feels like a very fair price for what you get. Our experience at Prime 102 was comparable to the best steakhouses in New Orleans. The food was great and the service was truly exceptional. We were a party of 7, so we had the opportunity to explore a number of the menu items. The jumbo lump crab cakes, the tuna tartare, the loaded potato casserole, and the lobster Mac and cheese were excellent. One might not think Brussels sprouts would be special, but these were unlike any I've ever had. They were definitely a surprising highlight of the meal and a must have for future dinners. The rib eye and filets were all delicious, perfectly cooked to the requested temperature. The servings of the chocolate cake and the butter cake are large enough to share. Both were delicious. But if I had to pick just one, I'd give the nod to the butter cake as it is a unique taste experience. In addition to the great food, our waiter, Matt R, was outstanding. He was attentive to our needs and pacing of the meal. His advice and descriptions of dishes, when asked, were spot on and very helpful. His attentiveness contributed to an overall exceptional experience. Although it has no effect on the food and the service, the original art deco decor makes for an interesting, special setting. I should also add that the prices were reasonable for the quality of the food and service. I can't say that Prime 102 is the best restaurant in Tyler, but only because we haven't been to any other high end restaurant there. But it's hard to imagine any better. If it were in New Orleans, it would be in our regular dining rotation. We're planning to visit family in Tyler annually. And dinner at Prime 102 will be a mandatory event.

We stopped by on our way back from Shreveport expecting some standard diner food. Lucky for us, the food was way better than expected and much higher quality as well. My son and I ordered the Chicken Fried Steak, while my wife ordered the Chicken Fried Chicken due to the recommendation of our waitress. Unfortunately, they brought out three orders of Chicken Fried Steak. We didn't say anything and accepted the food as it was. The Chicken Fried Steak was humongous and packed with flavor. It was a tad on the salty side and the meat was a little tough. But for a restaurant in the middle of nowhere, it was still better than expected. All of the sides tasted great, including the Mac n cheese, baked potato, coleslaw, fries, and onion rings. I would recommend stopping by here to support them and avoid the fast food chains.

The Pharm is in downtown Buffalo. A lot of locals eat here. If you are a hunter, you are going to love this place. On the front wall is one of the most impressive collections of deer trophies I have ever seen. Lots of restaurants with hunters for owners or workers put deer heads up on the wall. Few have as an impressive a collection of top score trophies as you will see at the Pharm. The antler widths are absolutely positively enormous. I didn't think they made deer with antlers that big. * * * What goes for the antlers goes for the food. Pharm takes pride in its steaks. This seemed like a good reason to order a rib eye sandwich. That rib eye was about as wide at the biggest trophy on the wall. It extended half a foot out of my bun on one side and half a foot out of my bun on the other side. The bun was merely a handle for picking the sandwich up. The rib eye was thin but absolutely tender. It was not the $150 steak you would get at an oil magnate's private dining club. But for an everyday steak sandwich, it was just great. I was happy to have it. I was also happy to have the onion rings that went with it. * * * I would say the crowd was 100% local. I was the only highway passer-through. There were a lot of people taking a break from work for lunch. Many of these guys had the name of their company embroidered on their baseball cap. There were retirees in camouflage having lunch with friends. There was one young Christian couple having a long friendly conversation with a lady who was probably the manager. The manager was holding a hammer and waving her hammer over the place. My guess is that they were talking about some kind of repair or remodel job going on in the restaurant. But then who knows? Altogether, it seemed like a comfortable neighborhood hangout. * * * I suppose you "could" do well by eating at the Subway right at the highway junction. I recommend you do better by going into Buffalo itself.

We were seated in the bar section in some very low and comfortable seats that became significantly less comfortable when trying to lean forward and eat. That did wonders from my usually sore back, let me tell you. I had their stuufed flounder and even though it looked more like two crab cakes than a fish, it was actually pretty good. I was happy with it. My wife, on the other hand, ordered a sirloin cooked medium (pink center). What she got was a well-done steak. If this were Denny's and this happened to a $18.99 steak it wouldn't be a big deal but this was at a prime steakhouse and the stead was about $60. My wife went ahead and ate it because she said it still tased good even though it was not what she asked for but the last quarted of the steak because so very grey and dray that she could go no further. She pointed the issue to the server (who didn't even apologize or even seem bothered) and asked that he show the remainder of the $60 boot sole to the manager. Now, we were not looking to recieve any sort of compensation or anything like that. My wife simply wanted the issue acknowledged by the manager since the steak was so expensive and was not cooked correctly. The manager never bothered to show up. This is a clear indication that the management of the Republic Steakhouse doesn't really care about either the quality of the food or the satisfaction of the guests. This is a shame because there is alot to like otherwise. Unfortunately, it doesn't look like we will be visiting them again. One final tip for the bar staff: If you are going to charge $18 for an Old Fashioned, you either have to make it good or fill the glass. Pick one.
