We went on a Friday night and the restaurant was busy. It has a nice patio but we sat inside due to the heat. The waitresses were quick to get drinks out, but the food took a little longer. Ironically, the steak one of our party ordered came out faster than the other food. The steak and blackened fish were good, but the etouffe was just ok. Everything tasted good, although some of the side dishes were not very hot. Overall it was a good dinner, but not great. read more

To start this review off, the food is amazing! The servers are very kind, and the owner cane and talked to us! We told him how much we enjoyed the food and he offered to give us a free new menu dish on the house. The atmosphere is very nice and overall this was a great place for dinner! read more

We're visiting Palestine and this place came highly recommended! It was gorgeous outside, so we sat on the back patio. From there we were able to watch the cook in the outdoor kitchen work while we enjoyed the smells he was creating. I had the boiled shrimp and potatoes. Delicious and just a bite a spice. My husband had the chicken fried chicken. He enjoyed every bit! We also ate a basket of crispy, crunchy onion rings. Our waitress, Shelby, made sure our drinks stayed full and that we were happy. read more

Wow this is a fantastic place for great food and music. The staff was as good as the food. The steaks were perfectly cooked and the grilled asparagus and grilled broccoli was over the top. The baked potato was huge. The beer was ice cold and then when they brought out the bread pudding for dessert, I thought they were going to have to drag me out of the place. If your looking for a great meal in a place that makes you feel like family then y'all really need to check this one out. read more

Food is decent, steak is overpriced for quality. Service is absolutely the worst. Here are some words to make the review enough characters. The staff is literally talking about some nonsense drama right next to me instead of serving customers. read more

Excellent steaks and seasoned to perfection. The Seafood is also outstanding and service is always friendly.

The staff was as sweet as as the sweet tea. My sister had the road kill, amazing flavor. Some of the best catfish I'd had since leaving GA. It's cute inside. Everything was GREAT!!! read more

I was in from out of town. Not really a lot of dining options in Palestine (my opinion) and no real steakhouses but this place was highly recommended by a friend that lives up here. Very surprised the cut was good the steak was very flavorful and I will definitely be back. read more

Hambone's Cajun Grill - 9oz Sirloin mashed potatoes and fried okra. - Cajun/Creole Near Me - Palestine, Texas

Stumbled upon this gem as a halfway point between Dallas and Nacogdoches to meet for lunch. We couldn't have found a better place! We were a little early so the owner suggested we try the pie next door (OMG! We would've missed that one as well. Oxbow Bakery was featured in Southern Living! So we considered that our appetizer). We walked back next door and sat at one of the picnic tables outside. We ordered the Feast - 5 pounds of crawfish, 3 pounds of shrimp, Alaskan king crab, sausage, potatoes, corn and mushrooms! Three college kids and one very happy momma tore this platter up!!!!! Everything was perfectly seasoned, our waiter Robert took great care of us, the ambience felt like we were in a friend's backyard crawfish boil! This is a perfect gem hidden in a sleepy little town! We can't wait to meet here ag PS when you leave Hambone's, walk next door and get a pie to go! read more

We are from out of town and my husband found this place after looking at several menus online. Walking in, I knew this place was legit. There were 2 tables open and we found the booth in the corner. Walking to our table we noticed there were several groups of folks visitin', drinkin', and eatin' crawfish. We were immediately excited. Sat down, we were immediately greeted and drink orders were taken. Drinks came and we ordered crab legs, crawfish, shrimp and frog legs. Every single thing that came out was AMAZING. The beer was cold, the crawfish were plentiful, and the shrimp tasted like heaven. If I could give more than 5 stars I would. If we ever come back this way, this is 100% our first stop. read more

Don't understand the negative reviews... Had the crawfish - amazing. Service is attentive in a relaxed manner, which is what Old Town is all about. Take your time, relax & enjoy the place, experience & good, made-to-order food. I WILL be back!! read more

A real gem - casual, comfortable, friendly with delicious food. We stopped by after a day on the train looking for something local yet not too pricy. Hambone's greeted us warmly, brought out soda and tea quickly. The server recommended tacos, steak, and etoufee. We ordered the catfish basket and blackened fish with etoufee. Fabulous. The catfish was fresh, and flaky just like it's supposed to be, with a delicious fried coating. The etoufee over blackened fish was excellent - blackened fish was spicy and cooked perfectly, topped by a freshly made creamy etoufee with crawfish tails, shrimp, and small pieces of sausage. We finished off our dinner with a piece of chocolate pound cake. We sat indoors, but there was an active crowd outside in the back enjoying the beautiful fall weather. This restaurant is worth a repeat visit. You won't be disappointed. read more

If you got all day to wait, this is the place to go! Tons of fun to do as you wait also. My personal favorite is twittling my thumbs.

Slow service with three tabletops. If you have unlimited time wait then you'd be fine. Shrimp was farm raised not gulf source so there's no taste other than heavy Cajun seasoning. Grilled oysters were great. Wish I'd done a full dozen but 40 minute wait turned me off. Owner came to our table and was eager to help but he is hindered by slow staff and kitchen set up outside. Low rating mainly due to service and the only water refill I got was the one I got up and got myself (no ice anywhere)! read more

We were in town and decided to try this place. Looked good. We were informed we could only order boiled items. Something was going on w the fryer. Also no gumbo available. OK no big deal. Ordered shrimp and crab. Beer came in plastic cup which is a deal killer for me. Waitress had mentioned corn, potatoes, sausage etc. None of that came w it I guess. It was confusing. So we ordered all that extra. Food was OK. Had to ask for plates and forks and crab cracker tools. Seemed like waitress was not really communicating anything. Not a fun evening. Will not go back. read more

Went tonight to give local restaurant a chance even though Cajun is not my favorite I admit. Sort of a neat place with inside and outside eating, however setup is more like a mobile setup than a standard restaurant. My son wanted the crawfish chowder and they were out and also said they were out of other crawfish dishes he wanted. We all then ordered catfish dinners and a side/ app of beans and rice. When our meals came we were not given any type of silverware so ate with our fingers. ( thought that was the way we were suppose to so did not ask for any though latter realized they do have plastic utensils). Fish was pretty good and warm not to spicy, and hush puppies and tartar sauce good but spicy. However fries were not very warm and one of my son's was still frozen ( yes frozen) . My wife found a hair in her fish but ate the fish anyway hoping that it had been sterilized when cooked. We did not complain even though we probably should have but have had more important issues to deal with of late . When we checked out however without complaining the employee apologized saying they were short staffed tonight but the place was not that busy. Have little desire to go back can get average catfish at a lot of places and usually without frozen French fries and hair in the fish. I write very few bad reviews if I don't like a restaurant I just let it go and don't go back but I thought if I wrote this it may help them get some problems fixed Ps: Never got our beans and rice app until after we got our meal. read more

We stopped at Hambone's yesterday before reading the yelp reviews, and I'm so glad we did! We had a great dinner. The hostess and owner were wonderful, and they had free beer. It was this last thing that attracted us. I ate the Fish and Shrimp Coubion. This is a tomato based stew served over rice. It had good heat and great flavor. Ghost peppers mixed with other peppers produce a flavorful but not overpowering heat. Of course, the unlimited beer pitcher helped! We didn't stay for the live music, but I wish we'd had time. The back patio seems very inviting, and I look forward to another trip to Palestine. If you have time, stop next door at the general store and grab a piece of pie. They can wrap it up to go. Update: we couldn't resist coming back tonight. The étouffée did not disappoint. The boudin is cooked on a charcoal grill. You have to try it! read more

It is a Cajun Grill, but the place makes one heck of an excellent steak!! A 20 once rib eye cooked to perfection, for an unbelievable price, best deal in town. The place is going to be big once it hits its stride and more people find out about it. As Arnold said "I'll be back!!" read more

I started with bodain it was dry ordered the fish basket the fish and fries were good it came with coleslaw but it had to much pepper in it couldn't eat that. All though it hasn't been open very long , was no personally . For being a Cajun restaurant really not much to offer. No gumbo no ettufee no beans and rice . They do have frog legs however I didn't order them. read more

Never ever go here. Ever. We made the mistake of going on "All you can eat catfish" night. Took 90 minutes to get our food. One chef who has no clue how to process orders. Half the food was cold when we did get it. An owner who doesn't give a rats butt and would rather socialize than help. Waitress never refilled our drinks. They were also too busy talking and not working. Truly the worst eating experience I've had in my entire life. Then they didn't comp anything. What an awful awful business. Don't go here. Trust me read more

I had the crawfish étouffée last Friday and it was very good. The presentation look awesome. The next day I had a little bit of stomach trouble so not sure if it was the food or something else. Probably won't be back, I'm not to fond of picnic tables and Dixie cups. read more
