Went on a family trip to Arkansas to visit family. On our way to Harrison, passed through Clinton and stopped at the Huddle House. They serve breakfast, lunch and dinner all day long. Cute diner -type environment. American style menu and was pleasantly surprised with the food. Made fresh and tasted GOOD! Prices were also GREAT. We come from Cali and a similar meal would easily be over $100. We were a party of six and Everybody was pleased with their meals and didn't break the bank. Gravy was legit, pancake was crispy (just like the lip guy likes it), baked potato was fresh and omelette was tasty. Blueberry bites were like deep fried little donuts...yummmm. Our waitress was very friendly and spent some time talking to us about the local area and economy. When the OWNER of this franchised store, shows disrespect to Veterans of the US Military, by asking to move from a table, and sit at the crowded bar, there IS a problem! Those who have served to protect and defend this country selfishly, should NOT be treated as " 2nd class ", or be given anything other than the utmost respect! What I witnessed today was deplorable! And even the wait staff was very upset. This was inexcusable, and all Veterans should speak out against such treatment. This Veteran behaved with the utmost integrity, and honor, even as he became visibly uncomfortable, and it became obvious as he was being " pushed " aside, and given less and less space to enjoy his meal, he began to tremble. But, he just got up, paid for the meal he couldn't even finish, and tipped his waitress. The owner of this restaurant needs to recognize, that it is only thru Veterans sacrificing themselves, that he is even able to live in a free country! Stopped at Huddle House with a group of seven that included a baby. We had to sit at separate tables but that wasn't a problem. My experience here defines the term, "middle of the road". While my first impression was that of a greasy spoon type diner, I will have to say that the food was better than that label. Keep in mind that it wasn't exactly gourmet either. I ordered some kind of breakfast concoction that had hashbrowns, scrambled eggs, bacon, sausage, and who knows what else lumped into a big pile with white gravy poured over the top. This didn't take a diploma from culinary school to master. As a matter of fact, I've made the same thing myself in my own kitchen. While I'm certainly not Gordon Ramsey, my version tasted just like their version. In other words, it has homecooking done right. It wasn't cooked on a greasy flat top either. I actually saw the woman using skillets just like we all use at home. If you're wanting food that tastes like it came from your own kitchen, then this place is great. Right now you're asking yourself, "If it's so great, why did you call it middle of the road?" Simple, the service. I took a seat and a woman asked me what I would like to drink 10 seconds later. 30 seconds later I had a drink and she was asking my what I wanted to eat. I could have told her that I needed a minute to actually look at the menu but I'm not that type of guy. I simply pointed to a picture of a dish that was on the page that is how I ended up with that concoction. The appropriate time later my food was delivered. That was the end of my service. At no time was my empty glass refilled. At no time did anyone check to see if I needed anything. At no time was a check brought to me. However, the four ladies that were working that morning did have a very loud and boisterous conversation about all the things that they had dropped and broken lately. I very much had the impression that food service was interfering with their socializing. Now you understand the "middle of the road" line. Decent food but bad service. My boyfriend & I stopped here to eat for the first time, and we were not satisfied. We each got an omelette, he got a waffle, and we each got a sprite. It was $38.00. The food was pretty bland. The price wasn't even our main concern, it was the fact that it wasn't clean at all. I watched one of the cooks use his bare hands to get the bread out of the toaster. No gloves. My husband ordered two chicken strips a la cart. One was normal sized the other one was way too small to be charged for but when we complained we didn't get an offer to make him another one or to take it off the bill I ordered a sausage egg cheese sandwich that wasn't on the menu. It came with hash browns & coffee. Coffee was good. The sandwich was a little greasy and the hash browns were inedible they were so greasy and undercooked. When we are within 10 miles of Clinton, we come here! I love the Mel's Diner-type feel here. If you are seated at the counter, you can watch your meal being prepared, start to finish. The wait staff is friendly. Way more than I would be should I be as busy as they usually are. Special order? No problem! They have never messed up an order of ours. I have been here several times when I pass through. The food is generally good for a diner, but the service is not always on par. I usually have the big house breakfast, but Monday, for some unknown reason they were closed at 11:00 A.M. There was a tiny bit of snow on the ground, but all other restaurants around were open.
