Cafe 1217 - A Fresh Break from the Road Trip Diet…read more What a relief to stumble into Cafe 1217 after days of heading southwest on a steady rotation of BBQ, grits, and beans. Delicious, yes... but the body eventually starts asking for a vegetable and a reset. The space itself matches that feeling. Simply decorated, with bright murals, clean lines, and a cheerful, easygoing vibe that feels light the moment you walk in. My husband gave me full ordering authority, which is always a bold move. I went straight into tapas mode because everything on the menu looked too good to choose just one. We ended up with a spread: chicken pot pie (which quickly abandoned any "small plate" intentions), field greens and baby spinach, a shrimp and crawfish cake, and one of each of Rosy's authentic hand-rolled tamales. Everything was fresh, flavorful, and satisfying without that heavy, road-trip food fatigue. The mint lemonade was refreshing and delicious, a little on the sweet side, but it worked. Service, while perfectly fine, could benefit from a warmer welcome and a bit more guidance, especially for first-timers trying to navigate such an inviting menu. A little extra friendliness up front would go a long way here. Our only real regret? Not saving room for dessert. They looked very tempting, and we'll be thinking about that missed opportunity. If you're on the road and craving something lighter without sacrificing flavor, this spot is a welcome pause.

Both were good and came out quickly. We asked for salt and pepper, we were given handfuls ( overkill). A fork was in the bag, no knife. Two containers of salad dressing, that was plenty. My e-gift card could not be used, they had no system to accept it, even though they are part of the Mileage Plus United system. This was extremely frustrating! I would go again or carry out again. It was about 8:00pm and they were cleaning one side and putting up chairs on the tables. If I were dining in, I would find that loud and annoying. Their hours were till 9:00pm. I'm not a big fan of thick or bready crust, so this was perfect for me. All of the pizzas were pretty flavorful, and I appreciated the variety of unique flavors they offer. The ones with jalapeños definitely had a kick if you took a bite with the pepper, but without them, the spiciness wasn't too bad. The Roman was super flavorful, and the Chile-Honey Soppressata had that nice sweet-and-spicy combo, just like the name suggests. I personally love sweet pizzas, so that one was a standout for me. I also love the interior, especially the open second level. It overlooks the first floor and gives the space a cool, hip vibe.
