Absolute gem! I just know someone's grandma is back there cooking and sharing recipes. The country special was delicious. CFS, mashed potatoes, carrot salad and cherry cobbler. Saw a couple or three bad reviews. One mentioned smoke was bad. No more smoking! Sign on front window to remind you. One dude must have not eaten his grandma's cooking because this food was fixed exactly like every meal I ever had at any grandma's table! And that means fresh, hot and delicious! The third guy(13 years ago) said it was dirty, dusty and depressing. Can't speak for then, but today it was spotless and and far from depressing! The ladies were all friendly to customers and co-workers alike. We left smiling! You will, too, especially if you have one of those delicious hot rolls!!! We had planned to eat at a BBQ establishment in Corsicana. While we're driving around, my wife checked the internet and found our chosen destination was permanently closed! I can now say, I am glad. We liked the Barbecue, but this place was just SO MUCH BETTER! The service was attentive and prompt. We both opted for the lunch special, for $8.75. We had Chicken Fried Steak. I can honestly say I never ever, ANYWHERE, had a better one!the meat was tender and cooked and breaded to perfection. I opted for mashed potatoes, a tossed salad and turnip greens with mine. My wife had sweet potato, tossed salad and corn with hers. The sides were all excellent. The meals came with tea (or coffee) cornbread, rolls, and cobbler for desert! Everything was well prepared and tasty. Most of all, everything was hot! (Cold restaurant food is a pet peeve) The restaurant was impeccably clean. I even got into a pleasant exchange of words with a gentleman at a neighboring table. On leaving, we had a brief conversation with the entire dining room staff - including the owner, who opened the restaurant 28 years ago. An outstanding bit of needed Americana. I travel through here all the time and frequent this hole in the wall every chance I get. They always have specials and the staff seems very nice and friendly. It is really sad that these small towns are not supported by yelp users, anything I can do to get their name out there. They only do cash! That is the only downfall! read more

We had seen some good reviews and decided to give this place a try What a big and I mean BIG disappointment Dorve the 50 miles over to this establishment 05/14/2018 Tried the lunch special Grilled pork chop and mashed potatoes and salad Wife had same with Collard greens and salad Grandson had chicken fried steak and baked potato We were informed that they could not serve the potato under the lunch price .Understand. I did not think it would cost me 4.00 for the potato either Lunch was to come with bread and dessert They never delivered the bread nor any butter for the baked potato Waitress came by one time then went and set and started visting with other workers and others were the employees set . Somebody is changing a bandage on another persons leg .This I felt was not something you should be doing in a place to eat I hear one employee say some pretty foul language and think what is the deal with talk like that from an employee so a customers can hear it We noticed that two people only took a couple of bites of their food,ask for a to go box and left. Have no idea why they left just thought strange they would only eat a couple of bites and then leave with it.(maybe the bandaging and language) Our pork chops are grilled as ask. They are hard,very small and thin and no seasoning on them. The wife ate hers mine had an odd bland taste like it was old. I ate a piece and got it down. The 2nd piece I spit out.The mashed potatoes I have no idea what they did .They were like older watered down potatoes or only mashed using water .No flavor no slat or pepper They bring ticket and not once mentioned the dessert that came with the meal . We ask for it and it is given to us It is a shame to see one of the few old Mom and Pop type establishments fall by the wayside and this one will as well if they do not make some serious changes You can't have 4 or 5 people there working and two or three setting there visiting and changing bandages, using foul language, serving bad food and then fail to deliver all that is ordered and expect too last They did take mine off the bill .Since I did eat the salad and drink a tea, I paid anyway. I never eat part of a meal and then complain and not pay. Full of smoke from smokers drinking coffee. I have eaten there before and smoking was allowed up front were there is exhaust fans that works kinda. I have eaten there over the years but NO More. On vacation through Texas and looking for local flavor. We found this cafe after reading reviews on another site, so we decided to try it. It is definitely where the locals go cuz there was a steady flow of people coming in. The waitress recommended the special - $6.25 for entree, 3 sides, roll, coffee and dessert.
