We had lunch at Picha's... a family run and owned Czech restaurant for 45 years. I had two cabbage rolls (served in a bowl - a first for me), Czech fries, kraut, and a side sausage. Yes - a lot of food. Congratulations to Picha's... great food, great service, and lovely small town friendly atmosphere.

On way back home to Caddo Mills from Waco and stopped on Main at Czech America. Best decision today. First you should know the AC is working 1000%. Specials today were roast beef or steak fingers with baked beans, mashed potatoes and a salad. All was the best I've had. 2 desserts were homemade Big Red Ice cream and Apple Cobbler al a mode.Forgot those pictures. Not a big place BUT worth the wait. Great waitress and honest! Definitely a place to check out.

Hamburger patties were hard and unedible

We went in and tried their hamburgers. They look delicious at the other table, so we ordered cheeseburgers and what we received were burnt patties that we could not even eat. I had to use a knife to cut it. We didn't say anything to the waitress. She was very happy and uplifting, so we just knew there's no way we're going back. The rest of the food may be great, but those hamburger patties were so tough. I couldn't get a knife through it. We won't be back.

Sausage, Cabbage Roll, Sauerkraut, and Czech Pitatoes.

Great Czech food. The many of the pictures already shown here convinced me to go with the Combo plate. (Cabbage Roll, Sausage, Czech Potatoes, Sauerkraut, and salad were all perfect). If you feel like a good sample of good Czech food, this plate seems like the perfect choice. I had to ask where the sausage came from. This didn't seem like some cheap grocery store brand. It turns out that H‑E‑B might carry the brand. However, Picha's does have a brochure of the meat company that makes the sausage. But enough about the sausage, the cabbage roll, and side veggies were just as good.

    Sausage and Kraut lunch special

Great, authentic Czech food with daily specials. The chicken fried steak and liver and onions are five-star. Today I ordered the sausage and kraut special, it came with Czech potatoes. Also ordered the open-faced beef sandwich with gravy, came with a side salad. They were out of Czech beer because delivery is one month behind. Homemade bread is brought to table with the food. Service is good and food comes right out after ordering. There is a lunch rush of local farmers and ranchers. Whenever I'm in West, I make it a point to hit this famous, long standing Czech restaurant icon.

For appetizers we had the cheese curds and pierogi. They were both so good. We also had the rueben, BLT, combo plate and the bohemian. Everything was super delicious. So glad we stopped there on our way to Dallas.

This place is an absolute find in West. It has lot of classic Czech foods with other delicious country style foods as well. The sweet kraut was my favorite part. The roast beef was tender and deliciously seasoned. The green beans were really fresh and nicely seasoned. The atmosphere is honey and welcoming. We loved the specials on the walls so you can see the deals everywhere you go. Also, the tables were adequately spaced to let you feel like you have space to move around. The staff was also great. The food came out in a timely manner and the waitress kept our drinks topped off. It was all really great.

I just stopped in to check out the town that i read about. I drove around to look for something to have a quick bite and a beer before I hit the road and I found this place as I drove around the town. The front of this restaurant look cool so I thought I give it a shot. The building has been around for over 100 years they say. I ordered a plate of potatoes covered with seasoning and a bit of grilled onions. They were delicious and the Czech "pivo" beer is great too. Ice cream is great too. Server, Mallory, was fantastic.

Delicious: Cabbage rolls Chicken and Dumplings Pierogi Kraut Sausage Beer Pie Good for the kids: Popcorn shrimp Chicken nuggets Small burgers Fries (Root)beer I suspect the liver and onions and roast pork would also be good here, but I'll be hard pressed not to order the chicken and dumplings over and over...

Great tasting good and large variety! Friendly staff and service was good. Just a small restaurant downtown West but lots of personality!

My girlfriend took the trays to her house and when I wanted to try it the next day, her family had eaten it....all. Three days later, I happen to going through Ennis on a weekend trip and stopped in to actually try it this time. Having some Polish blood running through the veins, I was pretty excited to see and try many things on the menu that I grew up with. So I proceeded to order like 3-4 different plates (I was with my girlfriend again, but I knew what my mission was.... Pirogies- really good. We had the cabbage and mushroom; tater and cheese and Piccadillo (a little Tex mex version with ground beef, potato and jalepeno). Honestly, the picadillo was my favorite, all were good though. The sauerkraut and ribs were tasty, they take all of the fun out of it by taking the meat off the bones, but better for service. We had the sausage plate which was really good and finally the potato pancakes with apple sauce. Everything was great. Did not know it at the time, but Granny Dee was our sever!! Sweet woman, great service and we have followed similar paths in our movings over the years. The place over all is in an old building, very nice, clean and comfortable. I recommend the place for a little taste of home. May not be like my mom's, but better than me having to make it. I will be stopping again in my travels.

I was impressed with the amazing staff who met my needs and exceeded my expectations. I ordered from the ala carte menu the Polish Garlic Kielbasa with sauerkraut and a Dr. Pepper. It came with an amazing brown spicy mustard which complimented the flavor of the sausage. The sauerkraut was sour and sweet! I enjoyed it so much I left with a takeout order of two more. My dad enjoyed it thoroughly as I. Way to go Granny Dee's Pierogi! A great 2nd visit, will definitely be back. Hope to see you there! I highly recommend it. Oh, bring your family and friends as well. My first visit I ordered the Tour of Poland. It was awesome, flavorful and yummy. Also tried the stuffed cabbage as an appetizer. Yummy. Downtown Ennis definitely has an amazing restaurant here. I also enjoyed the ambiance of traditional polish polka music videos on display. I share my great day with you!

A warning: If you eat Weinerschnitzel in Vienna, you will be ruined for life on most of the…read moreversions you find elsewhere. But I was stupid, and hungry, and ordered what looked like the specialty of the house at Eve's Café. In fact, it looked like what they called a Wienerschnitzel was the basis for all sorts of schnitzel variations with different toppings and gravy. That should've been an extra warning for me. To be fair, the description on the menu said that what you would get was a pork chop, and that is what I got. It was a little bit tough, which I suspected in advance, watching the people at the next table, sewing on theirs. The breading was weird in a way that's hard to describe. It was somewhat over-seasoned, a little bit hard, and left an aftertaste that was slightly chemical. An even worse sin by Texas standards, it was small, as in the recommended meat portion size for healthy eating, about the size of my hand, minus the fingers. My side of onion rings had the same breading. And even though I am generally a gravy hog, I didn't especially care for the brown gravy that came with my meal. The German dill salad probably had some dill in it somewhere, but it was all drowned in so much mayonnaise-based dressing, I couldn't really taste it, and the whole thing turned into soup before I finished. This all really sounds terrible, but it wasn't actually terrible. I ate all of it except for the soupy salad, but it just never rose beyond competent, when I had gotten my hopes up for some good German food. As I looked around at what others were eating, I really wished I had ordered one of the fabulous-looking sandwiches, burgers, or bratwurst. Those are harder to mess up. The restaurant itself has a nice location on the Square in Lampasas, and a charming vibe. The Thursday lunch crowd was good sized so it looks like a popular local place. The service was very friendly and pretty quick--maybe little TOO quick, as if my schnitzel might've been waiting for me under a heat lamp. Once I'd finished, I was still a little hungry, and considered ordering a slice of their Black Forest Cake. But I have had Black Forest Cake in Bavaria, and I simply couldn't bear another disappointment.

So this place was recommended, so I had to go. The restaurant is a small establishment, with…read morewonderful vibes. The inside was old fashioned, kind of a western twist.
