So, four generations of Pollocks walk into a Perogie bar.... For my birthday my family asked where I wanted to go, and for the first time I had a solid answer. Thank the algorithm for suggesting this place. I was born in America, so was my dad, and his dad, but before that my "-Ski" elders immigrated from central Poland to Pennsylvania. I remember Nanny's cooking, and this is it! We rolled in 10 strong and ordered almost everything in the menu and passed plates around. Tried all the soups - Behold the Best Beet Borscht in NTX, the Pickle soup is great too, haluski bacon noodles delicious side, and the big Kijowski sausage sandwich was over a foot long. Ashley, Damien, & Tim didn't expect a heard of hungry pollocks, and they all bent over backwards to get everything together for us. Will be making this hour- plus drive again, still some things on the menu we missed. Oh, and I almost forgot the giant PEROGIS!! from traditional potato varieties with cheese, jalapeños, and other Texas twists, all the way to Italian meat and cabbage stuffed delights, every variant was delicious. we plowed through probably two dozen, ok so I did tap out and had to bring several home for second dinner. We went to the Tomball German fest and they had a trailer there. We bought a bunch of pirogies and other dishes to take home. My girlfriend took the trays to her house and when I wanted to try it the next day, her family had eaten it....all. Three days later, I happen to going through Ennis on a weekend trip and stopped in to actually try it this time. Having some Polish blood running through the veins, I was pretty excited to see and try many things on the menu that I grew up with. So I proceeded to order like 3-4 different plates (I was with my girlfriend again, but I knew what my mission was.... Pirogies- really good. We had the cabbage and mushroom; tater and cheese and Piccadillo (a little Tex mex version with ground beef, potato and jalepeno). Honestly, the picadillo was my favorite, all were good though. The sauerkraut and ribs were tasty, they take all of the fun out of it by taking the meat off the bones, but better for service. We had the sausage plate which was really good and finally the potato pancakes with apple sauce. Everything was great. Did not know it at the time, but Granny Dee was our sever!! Sweet woman, great service and we have followed similar paths in our movings over the years. The place over all is in an old building, very nice, clean and comfortable. I recommend the place for a little taste of home. May not be like my mom's, but better than me having to make it. I will be stopping again in my travels. read more

Dine in or carry out, the food is fantastic! Quaint local owned place on the square that is absolutely worth a stop! We tried the pop's pork schnitzel sandwich and the Pierogi plate: bacon, cheese, chive & Kielbasa & Ruskie. The sweat and sour slaw paired with the spicy mustard on the sandwich took it to the next level with perfect balance! Of the pierogi, my least favorite was the Ruskie but it was still good! The best one by a landslide was the kielbasa, I could have ordered 3 of those and been perfectly content! Truly among the best eateries in Texas. Granny Dee's Pierogi is worth visiting. I was driving through Ennis, took a quick detour through Main Street, and stumbled upon this wonderful restaurant. This place is truly a gem. The service is incredible, and the space is super inviting and comfortable. I tried the Pierogi plate with the Potato and Cheddar with Jalapeño and the Mexican Picadillo options. Upon leaving, I regretted not placing an additional order to go. A very special place. I saw this place on a road trip and stopped in excited and without any expectations. I am so glad I stopped. Absolutely everything we tried was a home run . I ordered a feast because I wanted to try everything . The cabbage roll soup was great and very unique tasting. The kielbasa was perfect, from the smoke flavor to the crisp to the homemade sauerkraut that it was served with were all textbook perfect . The pierogis were huge and very good as well but surprisingly not the star of the show for me. The spicy schnitzel is what made me very very happy that I stopped in for lunch. Perfect execution , prepared and cooked with a heavy hand of love . The spicy sauce reminded me of a very good Nashville hot spicy and sweet rub. The potato chips were simple and great as well. So, hubbs' old plane decided to call it quits over at the Ennis Airport, which meant an unexpected trek out there to deliver a part. Naturally, I saw this as a lunch opportunity not to be wasted! Who knew Lewisville is a hotbed for Polish and Hungarian food? A few places popped up, but I settled on this gem right in downtown. It was past the lunch rush, and our friendly server gave us the scoop: most popular items were the Dill Pickle Soup and either the Kielbasa Sandwich or the Hot Czech Sandwich. We went with the Hot Czech (love a sandwich with some mystery), a cup of soup, and a pierogi trio to split. The Dill Pickle Soup arrived at, well... room temp. I asked if it was supposed to be cold, and our server looked mortified, saying they'd just loaded the soup hopper and it hadn't heated up yet. She whisked it away, warmed it up, and returned with an apology--no biggie! Then came this monstrosity of a sandwich. The meat was practically busting out, twice the size of the bun, spicy, messy, and totally delicious. The pierogis were decent--though I wished for a bit more pan-fried crispiness. Found this gem perusing through Yelp while we were near the historic downtown of Ennis. The restaurant is very bright and clean. The food here is absolutely phenomenal and you can tell that the owner (Granny Dee) is passionate about sharing her love for Polish food! The pierogis were "Texas" sized and generally bigger than what you'd expect. I am not complaining because I wanted more of it after each bite! I ordered from the ala carte menu the Polish Garlic Kielbasa with sauerkraut and a Dr. Pepper. It came with an amazing brown spicy mustard which complimented the flavor of the sausage. We came here the day after Christmas and it was wonderful! Great family owned polish plate. Grandma Dee was there and was our server while we were there, and she was so friendly and great to talk to. The food came out quick. My mom got the cabbage rolls and loved them, my dad got the ennis Czech sandwich which he enjoyed, my husband got the polish plate with a sampling of everything, and I got a potato pancake and two pierogis. The pierogis were the best part! They were cooked perfectly. I had the bacon, cheese, and potato, and the jalapeño, cheese, and potato. The texture was perfect and they were so delicious! The jalapeño was my favorite, it wasn't too spicy and had the best flavor. The nice thing is they sell the pierogis by the dozen or frozen, so you could get them for a big group or store them! Great home made authentic pierogis! This was our first time in but definitely will not be our last. We thoroughly enjoyed our meals. Server was attentive and offered drink refills along with to-go drinks when we were leaving. There was no one else in the restaurant while we were there which is unfortunate. Granny Dee's is a lovely place! Newly added to a historic building, it's a perfect food addition to the restaurant scene here in Ennis. We ordered pierogis, of course, and I added Hualuski, a buttery noodle dish with bacon, onion and cabbage as well as a stuffed cabbage roll. What I discovered was some truly delicious authentic Polish pierogis. My favorite was the Ruskie; a potato, farmers cheese and carmelized onion filled delight. The pastry was very tender and my husband tried the combo plate and his were gone in a flash. The noodles were a very generous serving but a little dry. I took them home and added a little more butter. The flavor was terrific, though. The cabbage roll was different from your usual Czech or Americanized cabbage roll in that it was dense, almost sausage like, with a fairly thin cabbage wrap. The tomato sauce was tasty; still it wasn't something I would order again. My husband liked it, though. They have an interesting menu with sandwiches and soups and sides. Granny Dee's has a lot going on. They were busy at closing. This looks like a family business and a really nice place to dine in downtown Ennis. Service was helpful and friendly. We didn't have to wait long. There are plenty of tables facing big glass windows. Comfortable restrooms are outside the dining area off a hallway for all of the businesses in this beautiful building. read more

We were traveling from Galveston to North Fort Worth when we saw this pop up in the town of Ennis and not far from the highway. We ordered a pierogi plate and order of potato pancakes. We enjoyed the potato pancakes. I do like syrup with my pancakes but these are served with the traditional apple sauce and sour cream. We would have them again. The pierogi I will review each we tried. The Italian was stuffed with ground Italian meats, we have never heard of this kind of pierogi and just not a normal Polish pierogi, but if you like Stromboli you will likely enjoy this. We would not have this one again. The Sauerkraut pierogi was good but the filling a bit dry. It really needed the butter and onions. The cheddar was also very stiff and dry. Our favorite all around was the Farmers Cheese. To us this was the closest to pierogis that we grew up eating. The onion was very good. Nicely caramelized and a nice amount of butter to dip In. We also had the kids plate with a cheddar pierogi and Haluski. Our kiddo didn't care for either but I didn't try the Haluski. Over all we give them a 4 star review for bringing pierogis to TX! Went to Granny Dee's Pierogi's a few weeks ago. Ordered the Potato/Cheese Pierogi's and Potato Pancakes. The Pierogi's came in a pool of butter, not browned like the pictures and white limp onions on top, not caramelized. The Potato Pancakes were paper thin and grey. Obviously the potatoes were ground up long before they were going to be cooked. I had hoped this would be a fun place to visit to try new food but I can't imaging going back. I felt ill all night from all that butter. read more
