Great beer selection and authentic German cuisine. One of the best! The pretzel is great!

This place is more like a 4.5 out of 5 stars. The only thing preventing it from getting 5 stars was the wait time to get our food. Everything else was fantastic. I'm actually very glad we came here instead of the other places we had planned on going for lunch. When we went, it was not crowded and we got seated quickly. This place is fairly big, with plenty of tables and space. They also have a dedicated "beer garden" on one side of the restaurant. For food, i had to get jager schnitzel with spaetzle. My wife ended up getting duck. Before my food came out, they also brought out a salad. I don't know if it was part of the jager schnitzel entree or the duck... But the salad was amazing. Everything was pickled and very intense flavor. Both entrees were great and i also like the fact that they have a kid's menu that serves german food. (I was afraid the kids menu would have simple items like burger and or chicken tenders, but that's not the case here.) the lunch portions were perfectly sized.... granted its not "texas sized" but it did its job and i left satisfied. What i really like about the place is the interior decor. It looks like the owners brought back so many trinkets, souvenirs and photos from their trips to Germany and it makes it feel more authentic. Decided we needed some German food and decided to give the Bavarian Grill a try. We stopped in and were seated right away. Our server was very friendly and did an excellent job throughout the meal. He was patient and answered all of our questions. We had the Schnitzel which was crisp and delicious. We also tried the Duck breast which was very well cooked and seasoned. The Fried Brie was excellent and a great addition to the meal. The rolls served were all outstanding and really enhanced the experience. One of the finest & most authentic Bavarian restaurants I have found in the entire U.S. Quite a large place, excellent for large groups or small. Extensive German beer selection with mostly Bavarian craft beers. They have an excellent escargot & the Nurnberger wursts are well prepared. They have quite a few wild game dishes & the menu is very large. Staff are all polite & attentive, the decor inside is all authentic Bavarian & very interesting to look at. I've enjoyed meals here twice & the food & service was consistent both times with not many people eating at 2-3pm midweek. They also have an outdoor patio/beirgarden available. The best German food in DFW but pricey for what you get. The food isn't fancy or gourmet. It's your typical staple German dishes; sausages, schnitzels, spatzel, cabbage, potatoes, etc. The portions are massive but you cannot share without getting hit with a split plate fee which is annoying. Only a few of our group of 12 could finish their food and many took home more than half of their entree. I ordered the ham hock which be warned takes a long time to prepare. The tender, salty pork combined with the crispy deep-fried skin was the ultimate companion for cold beer. I was expecting the ham hock to be huge since the schnitzels are so massive but it was quite normal size by American standards. The pan-fried potatoes with bacon were recommended by the server and did not disappoint. I chose the spatzel as my other side dish since I haven't had it since I was in Germany many years ago. It was fine but I'd choose another side like the potato pancakes next time. My entree along with a single 0.5L beer was $60 after tax + tip and that's where the problem lies. We came here early October 2025 to prepare for an upcoming Germany trip. Some colleagues of mine have come here repeatedly and raved about it. Our server very enthusiastically made some beer recommendations and we went with them. We tried a variety of light pilsners from different regions as well as a dark beer. For food, we split a sausage sampler to start. The platter came with five different sausages, mashed potatoes, and sauerkraut. Every item was delicious. We couldn't decide on a favorite sausage, they were all so good. We followed up with splitting a seasonal mushroom sauce schnitzel. This wasn't your typical Jagerschnitzel - this was something elevated. This was so good, and it was difficult not to inhale the whole thing. What a treasure in North Dallas. Just off 75 in Plano. Complete with outdoor bier garten! The interior is just amazing. So much love and passion poured into this location, offering it up those of us who enter. Every detail seems hand selected. So many artifacts, decor, ambiance, flags, even the locomotive that encircles the interior. Service is top notch and in character. Oktoberfest is legit. Two pages of schnitzel! And the bread oh the bread. Do not pass it up. Plus the sweet cream butter. Soooo good. You must leave room for dessert. Or just come for dessert. Celebrated Oktoberfest at Bavarian Grill in Plano, and it truly felt like a little slice of Bavaria right here in suburbia Texas. I had the Schwammer'l Schnitzel, a perfectly breaded pork cutlet topped with a rich wild mushroom ragout. It was an absolute delicious plate for mushroom lovers. Each bite was hearty, earthy, and very creamy. Paired it with a cold Weihenstephan beer, and it couldn't have been more fitting for the occasion. Brie made our dinner UYE more pleasurable by giving right recommendations for us first timers. We ended the evening with some of our table mates sharing their desserts. Even I weren't eating I would love to just sit in the restaurant to feel as though I was in Germany. They have many excellent beers to try and even have a beer club to join! They have a Bavarian Grill Stein Hour between 4:00 p.m. and 7:00 p.m. Tuesday through Friday! The very sweet and helpful waitress brought us out a bread basket to start. The bread was nice and warm and yummy. It was a great compliment to my German beer! I happened to be there during Schnitzel Fest! Ja ja ja!! Ja to the schnitzel!! I don't know where to start. I think the staff are the absolute shining stars. Don't get me wrong, the food is amazing and the ambience of the restaurant is perfect, but the staff are incredible. If you really know German beers, this place is heaven. If you don't, they will very kindly and very casually help you make selections, which is a good thing given that their beer list runs over 100 items. It may run quite a bit longer than that. I visited twice in two weeks, and I will definitely return. I've only been here once and didn't even have a full meal to really make a more detailed review. But I had one of their dessert and thoroughly enjoyed my time while here one afternoon for lunch. I had their Waldbeeren Torte mit Schlag. It is a light sponge cake topped with vanilla cream and a juicy blend of blackberries, strawberries, raspberries and blueberries. It was delightful after your authentic Bavarian meal. Service was very friendly and thorough and the restaurant just make you feel you are not in DFW anymore. Great authentic food and ambiance. The entire restaurant is decked out with German decor. There was a band playing music and like 5 tables there celebrating birthdays so they went around singing happy birthday to them. All the beers are from Germany to and they have every glass that corresponds to the beer. Multiple sizes too. My friends were drinking the massive liters. if you drink all of the beers on the menu, you get a mug and a plaque on the wall. If you're not a beer drinker though they do have a pretty good wine selection too. I give it 3 stars because the food is expensive and the portions are massive. Definitely one of those restaurants I wish would half the portions and lower the price because entrees are $25-$30+ each and could easily feed 2 to 3 people. I was so full and i barely made a dent in my schnitzel. Felt like such a waste. Would not recommend the potato pancakes. My friend ordered them and said they didn't taste like potato at all... more like onion bread. Which if you like that... great. But not so great when you're expecting potatoes. read more

I ordered the following: Oktoberfest beer - perfect for the holiday celebration Gulasch Suppe - A bowl of their Spicy Goulash Soup with beef, pork, paprika, onions, and peppers. This soup is broth-based and does not have much beef/pork. Ultimately, it was not spicy and a little too salty for my liking. Peach Cheesecake - A seasonal dessert, although it was not peach season, I still offered to select this as a dessert because I am a dessert fan. It was not too rich, so very sweet to eat, and the peach was very subtle as well. Loved their whipped cream, very airy. We were in town for a friends celebration of life and wanted something different for dinner. I have lived in Germany and have usually found that German restaurants here in the United States isn't that good. Well I wish we lived closer, this was the best German restaurant I have been to since my last trip to Germany. Everything we had from the fried Brie to the Apple Strudel at the end was excellent. This was my first experience at the Bavarian Grill and it gets the Picky Eater stamp of approval!! I had the Chicken cordon Bleu with a flavorful side of potatos and onion soup. You people with the recent 4 and 5-star reviews have no palates. This place is about as far from a good German restaurant as Mars is from sustaining human life. First of all the noise level is unholy. Yes there was an extremely large celebration taking place the evening we chose to eat there (a Tuesday night, go figure!) They should have private rooms for those and not subject the public to that kinda crap. The main dining room was so loud you couldn't hold a conversation, even at the booths up front. About the food. It used to be very good, especially right after it opened, when they were hungry to create a business. It was good even 15 years ago. But this last visit was just plain awful. I ordered the Jaeger Schnitzel (pork) with Spaetzle and the mixed Salad. The mixed salad, normally delicious, was hit with so much dill as to be overwhelming and inedible. The Spaetzle was dry, like it had been sitting in a steam tray all day. The Schnitzel was super thin, over-cooked, and tasted like bread crumb. The gravy was thin and tasted like flour. I had 3 bites and called it a complete loss. Don't get me started on the prices they charge. $14 for the mixed salad?! What? $36 for the entree?! You've got to be kidding me. Maybe if they reduce the portion size to something a normal human would eat in one sitting they could improve?? Like I wrote in the beginning of this review, Bavarian Grill is a good German restaurant like Mars is an earth-like planet. read more

It's Octoberfest at Bavarian Grill!! Their menu for this time of year features an extra two pages of various schnitzels. For all schnitzels you have the choice of chicken, pork, or for $7 extra, Canadian veal. Every time I go, I am happy with my order but wish I had room to try a different one as well. This time, my wife had the Tirolian Jager Schnitzel and I had a schnitzel battered in pretzel and came with a caraway sauce. We absolutely loved it once again. We both paid extra for the veal which raised the price to about $40 each. Worth it in my book. read more

What a wonderful institution. I've been here at least a couple of times. It's a large, themed restaurant, lots of wooden chairs and seating areas. Think hard, think brown, think woven straw baskets, and lots of sausage variations and schnitzel. They probably also have beer and such, but that's outside my wheelhouse. They have two seating areas separated by the bar. The main dining room to the left features the skytrain chugging itself across the room above your heads, hugging the perimeter and tunneling itself through the walls. If you order the pâté that comes covered with lingonberry, then the owner himself, it appears, personally serves it to you, with an erect knife centered in the glass vessel. At the base are tiny bread loaves. Other times, we ordered the Würste mit Kräuter Kartoffelsalat und Sauerkraut, which was basically a sausage sampler where you get to choose 5 off of their list. It comes with sauerkraut and potato salad. Each sausage is cooked differently (e.g. grilled vs boiled or steamed), and each has a varying levels of processed meat: some have hotdog consistency while others have chunky ground meat. Will it be salty? Of course. The Jäger Schnitzel mit Spätzle und gemischtem Salat was less salty, and more or less enjoyable. It's a schnitzel topped with a mushroom sauce. I'd say this is more on the level of comfort food; don't expect any explosions of flavor. Comes with tiny dough piece dumplings and a side of veggies. Their Gulsach Suppe was satisfying enough. Pleasant tasting. Another nice thing about this place are their seasonal and holiday menu, which allow you to come back and experience different dishes. In spring, they often feature very large white asparagus. Though, other than being white and large, I don't believe white asparagus offers anything additional in terms of flavor. They will also offer a selection of game meat--elk, wild boar. I opted for a some white asparagus wrapped in ham served over a salad. The asparagus tasted quite standard, and it came with a large knife. The salad itself was fine and dressed. I'll probably come back here a few more times to try out more meat items on their menu. I would probably focus on elk, pork hock, duck, and some other schnitzel variations in the future. read more

The German beer selection is comprehensive and tasty. We love the German vibe. And it feels very much like a family. The service is friendly and helpful. The schnitzel ... OMG, so good!!! Wowza! This place has been like 8 miles from me for 32 years and I did not even know they existed. I was in the area and saw them and also saw their packed parking lot, and immediately looked on Yelp and saw their rating and said to myself "this is a must try kind of place"! It absolutely IS a must try place, and you will not be disappointed... The ambiance accurately captures a German restaurant and bier giertan. The place transports you out of Plano and to Germany faster than any airline! Our server Jordan did a great job. He had a 16 top in addition to us and yet he handled it all beautifully. The food here is amazing!!! It is 5-star all the way! I got Marktfrau Pilz with Swiss Cheese, which were basically spinach stuffed mushrooms. Amazing! We were excited to find authentic German food right here in Plano. After spending some time in Germany we missed the cold beer, atmosphere and food for sure! Bavarian grill did not disappoint! At first I was shocked at the prices for entree's and we usually split it anyway and an appetizer. When the food came it was enough for 2 people at least! We couldn't finish it, so yeah, just like Germany. They won't let you leave thirsty or hungry. Pork schnitzel with recommended sides was amazing. Bread was awesome and the atmosphere was very nice. We saw some old beer bottles we recognized from pubs around Germany tucked away in little shelves. Lots of nostalgia. We have had the Black Forest Cake in the Black Forest and have made it before so the bar was high, they hit it. I highly recommend it and we will be back. read more

This review is specifically for the Prinz Regenten Torte. My friend got two to go, including one she so generously blessed me with. HOLY CRUDMUFFINS, y'all. Stop what you are doing right now and go try this cake! I'm not even a huge sweets person, but this chocolate coated cake was divine. It was so fresh and flavorful. One of the best cakes I've ever had in my life. The chocolate cream in between the layers of moist cake was heavenly. It was so delicious chilled, allowing the chocolate coating on the outside to be hard. This will live on in my dreams. These picture in indoor lighting sadly fail to capture the masterpiece that is this cake. I will be bringing my family to this restaurant soon for sure and will update my experience about their in house service at that time, but based on what my friend has shared, this is THE PLACE to get Bavarian food. Well I certainly didn't get the memo they have moved to much better place. Its been years since we ate here and enjoyed their new location. We called ahead for reservations just in case. Much the same look and feel as old location but so much better. And the trains still run on time along the wall. Great menu and service. Many tables for groups and a bigger bar. Good for them.
