Ask the Community - Hua's Oriental Center

Do you accept United Health Medicare? If not, how much do sessions ( acupuncture) cost?

They do not accept insurance plans. It is $50 (cash or check) per session/apt. I was told we could request getting reimbursed from insurance but it may/may not work.

    Fertility accupuncture available?

Hello there - you can call and clarify this over the phone first before making an appointment but Dr. Feng is 4th a 4th generation acupuncturist and has been doing this for 20 years so I'm sure he does do this. All the best! :)

I've read that acupuncture can help with heart problems, how would your practice treat a late 20's male having periodic heart palpitations and bouts of waking up short of breath while sleeping?

The "bouts of waking up with shortness of breath" sounds like "sleep apnea" and requires a "sleep study". However, acupuncture can help the body manage certain conditions.

What is the typical cost per visit?

    $50 dollars for very treatment.

But there is a ton of everything you could possibly want, medicinally. And it's all so clean and neat; nothing is cluttered, dusty, or junky. I was a little overwhelmed because I didn't know where to start, and honestly, I just wanted one of everything. But my pockets reminded me that I'm not carrying Queen funds, so I centered myself and zoned in on essential oils. I am having issues with spiders entering my new work vehicle somehow. It's brand new, so no food or anything to attract them. I read and heard that peppermint oil would help deter them. The store had plenty of peppermint oils, along with eucalyptus, lavender, lemon, etc. They sell the BeNatu brand at $19.99 for a 4oz glass bottle. You can get this exact brand/bottle/size at Wally World or Crimezon for $9.99, but I'd rather spend twice the money to support local. Before I left town, I went back and bought 4 more bottles. (SN: The oils absolutely helped. Haven't seen a spider inside the car for the past 2 weeks!) I love and prefer natural remedies, so the next time I'm in the Chi, I'll shop for more than just the essential oils. I didn't take any pictures inside the store because it felt a little rude to do so. But the staff was nice and offered warm smiles. They have many imported items, so naturally the inscriptions are in varying languages. If you have questions, just ask. If you're going into Chinatown, turn west on Cermak, and they are located about halfway down that block. (They are not the one on the corner of Cermak & Wentworth; that's a different herbal store) Street parking (ParkChicago pay system) or paid parking lots are near.

My preference is to do chiro before acupuncture, and the office is always willing to do what they can from a scheduling perspective to accommodate my request, which brings us to our first stop, Justin! Embarrassing for me, but I've cried a few times in Justin's face because of aches and pains. Justin always takes his time to listen to my physical woes, and he goes to work to get 'em out. He uses a variety of methods from heat to stim to good 'ol chiropractic adjustments- all with a smile. I definitely feel loosey-goosey and ready to get poked, which brings me to my second stop....Angie! No matter the challenge I bring into the acupuncture room, Angie is ready to meet it. Angie also uses a variety of techniques from different laying positions to stim to heat lamps. PS Angie- where can I get one of those heat lamps for my house?? I don't think there's ever been one acupuncture session where I haven't gone into a fully meditative state. The hour long session feels like it's 5 minutes, and I always wake up feeling fully refreshed. We usually end our sessions with cupping, which has been a game changer in my physical healing journey. I genuinely don't know where I would be without these two. Every time I'm in this office I reflect on how grateful I am to have this tremendous duo in my corner. If I skip a week, I can absolutely tell a difference in my body. Suffice it to say, Angie and Justin won't be getting rid of me any time soon! Angie, Justin, thank you infinitely. I was told they could fit me in that same afternoon and Michelle gave me one of the best massages of my life (seriously!). I was so pleased I booked another massage with Michelle for 2 weeks later and had a second wonderful experience. That should've been communicated beforehand. I was faced with accepting the change and staying even though I really wanted to try cupping or leaving and facing a cancellation fee. I felt trapped. The environment itself was fine although I felt like I was snapped out of relaxing a handful of times from people upstairs and doors opening/closing in the hallway. Massage itself was good/decent but inconsistent in some areas. Checkout felt awkward, with a lot of emphasis/pressure around tipping and packages. I was told to just sign so when I did she asked if I tipped and there wasn't a way to go back. I just tipped cash. Overall, not a bad massage, but the lack of communication and pushy upselling left a bad impression and made me uncomfortable. I'll likely try somewhere else before coming back if I do.
