Just like sitting down at the actual eatery. Fresh and delicious. Bite after bite, humming and dancing around the table. Yeah we added cheese and heck yes we added bacon! Fire in the hole! Total knockout the park. Medium plus is the way to go if you actually want to enjoy your meal LOL anything else past that, you tend to rethink your actions. Despite not having gone back to this chain in years, I'm still impressed with the quality and service here! I used to never go to this location either because it was always farther away but am glad I did because it's clearly the best one lol e.g. easier parking, more spacious seating, livelier staff & they had sun umbrellas for lines! As for food, I'd say that the medium spicy chicken sando was definitely the right play! It's just that good. If you're looking for something that's a little lighter, then go with the chicken & waffles (also a tasty choice). Found out about this location a few months ago on a trip with friends down to Pasadena. Was really surprised to see they opened up a second location in the area, but really happy about it because I don't like braving the drive and wait time at the Chinatown location. I'd say the wait here is comparable to the Chinatown location, if not marginally better. They have a pretty limited parking lot considering how many people actually come here to eat, but I appreciate that they have a dedicated lot at all versus the Chinatown location where you default just have to pay for parking. Here, if the lot is full, you can find free street parking pretty quick nearby. Is the wait still worth it for the food? Yes. YESSSS. This place is my favorite hot chicken sandwich place ever. There's no contest. The wait can get kind of ridiculous, so do try to either come with friends or come during off hours. I got The Sando and fries both times. The Sando is pretty much perfect. My husband got The Sando 2.0, but...I don't like all the additional toppings, I think it distracts and detracts from the perfection of the spicy chicken flavor, to be honest. And my husband agreed with me. Their fries are really good too! Great crispy crunch and a nice, fluffy inside. Good spice as well. Also, medium is like a hot at other places. Their hot is like HOT. This was my first time at this location, and I remember waiting over an hour. I ordered the Sando with Hot Spicy. I remembered the Sando was so good and juicy, and how I was sweating from the spice. The parking lot was packed, and I was a little nervous about where I parked, but fortunately, I didn't get a ticket. The staff here were super friendly. One of them asked what I was up to that day, and another complimented my shoes. Someone else also made sure to let me know they were available if I needed anything else. Free sparkling water was available while you wait, and I ended up waiting about 20 minutes. I had expected a longer wait. I ordered the Sando with Medium Spicy and a side of potato salad. The chicken had great flavor from the seasoning. However, I remembered it being juicier. I'll definitely go for the Hot Spicy again because I didn't feel the burn at all! I loved the potato salad! The potato salad was excellent. I highly recommend to order, and if you need something to cool down your palate if the chicken is too spicy. I love this place. I've been coming here since they first opened when the line was 2+ hours long. Now the line is way more manageable which is great because this makes the experience even better. The fried chicken is what I get most. Super juicy. Super delicious. It is not hot just for the sake of being hot. While your lips burn, you still can taste the flavors. The spice has complexity. The sando is great too. The slaw helps balance out the spice. The staff is always friendly and makes you feel appreciated. They will come out to check up on their guests to make sure we are enjoying the food and experience. It is an experience watching someone's bald head beads with sweat while having the biggest smile on his face. Why isn't this restaurant a one Michelin star restaurant? Service - checked. There was a small line getting up to the counter, and small wait before a member was able to get us to a seat, but the food is worth the small inconvenience. We lucked out and arrived as soon as our friends were at the top of the queue. Note, if you do have to queue outside they provide decent sun umbrellas. Every single member of staff we interacted with were incredible. The vibe was great, the place was buzzing the chicken was unreal. The chicken was so crispy on the outside and juicy on the inside. The lady at the order counter was really nice and even offered us a sample of the x-hot spiciness level. We got our order about 10-15 mins afterwards and everything was fresh and tasted amazing. The x-hot was pretty spicy and it definitely builds up. I'd say it's comparable to the Buldak level spiciness but it builds up more as you eat! The staff was friendly and everything was clean. Parking was kind of a headache, so be ready to circle around a bit. There was still a wait to get in as the staff made sure not to keep the line moving faster than food is prepared. Howlin Rays has been a staple for me since the first location opened up in Chinatown! When the Pasadena locations opened up I was thrilled as it's less than a mile from me. I probably get Howlin Rays more than I should, but it changed the chciken sandwich game forever. My go to is the Luis Style Sando, no pickles, medium + with an order of Mario Fries. You really can't go wrong with anything here. The tenders, the half birds, the regular fries, and their comeback sauce is always on point. The staff is beyond friendly and won't hesitate to give you recommendations if it's your first time or your 12th time. This location is more spacious then the Chinatown location and the vibe is legit. There is always awesome music playing when there's a long wait. Finally got to try Howlin' Rays after years of hearing so much about it but never having it. I knew if I did not try it, I would end up regretting it. I had the chicken sando just to keep things simple. I chose the hot level and the cashier and Ryan, one of the workers calling out order numbers told me it would be too much to handle. Little do they know my spice tolerance is not like everyone else's. I was able to enjoy my sandwich and still have that spice in there that was enjoyable. I would say that the quality of the chicken is what stood out to me the most. You can really taste it. It makes sense why this place is rated so damn good. For sure it is one of the best hot chicken places in LA county, no doubt about that. Also, Ryan was super cool. He was outside cleaning and he came over to talk to us and check in on how we were liking the food. Good service is always appreciated just as much as good food. One more thing I wanted to say was I really liked the fries. I didn't order any but my friends did and let me try some of theirs. We made the trip out to Howlin' on an early Saturday morning to beat the rush/line. We got there at 10:30am and were 2nd in line. As it got closer to 11am when they opened, the line grew around the building! Having tried medium spice before and being that I like spicy foods, I wanted up it a notch and go for the hot. When the worker asked me what level spice I wanted for my chicken sandwich and I responded with hot, he informed me of what peppers go into the hot. I told him that I liked spicy, but also wanted to enjoy my food. He recommended that I should do medium plus, which is a nice in between of medium and hot. Props to the guy because that's what I ordered and it fulfilled my tastebuds of both hot and enjoyable! We ordered some fries and tenders to go with our sandwiches. When the food came out, I practically burned my tongue and the roof of my mouth on my first bite. I can't complain about the temperature of the food because it came fresh out of the fryer and I could see the steam leaving the chicken. The size of the chicken was huge, the crunch of the chicken was perfect, inside of the chicken was moist, and again the spice was exactly what I wanted. The amount of slaw and pickles in the sandwich was perfect as it cooled down the spiciness of the sandwich a little bit, but not too much. I would have to say this is the best hot and spicy chicken sandwich I've eaten. Fries are crinkle cut with some seasoning sprinkled on top. The tenders on the menu says jumbo and indeed they were jumbo! I've never seen tenders that huge before and it was cooked to perfection. Tender didn't have too much batter, crispy with every bite, and most important is that the inside of the chicken was moist, tender, and had juices running out. The restaurant is actually decent sized with good amount of tables, booths, and about 4-5 tables outdoor in the patio. However, with so many people coming in and the constant long line, the tables do run out fast. I can't give enough props to the staff there because they went above and beyond and were amazing. They checked in on us to make sure everything was what we expected and even got us stuff without us having to get up and go get it ourselves.
