If there were more than 5 stars, Dr. Howard Van would have received it from me. I went in scared and anxious because I was scheduled for a root canal. The root canal in my mind equals pain. Dr. Howard Van with his soothing voice told me to relax as he was about to numb the area. I did not feel a thing while being numbed as I usually do with my previous dentists. Already, that was a 5 Star for him. He proceeded to do the root canal and again just the noise was heard but nothing was felt. I walked out of there and went home and by the end of the day when the numbness was gone, I still did not feel anything. NO pain after a root canal. Amazing! I said to myself that he can do a root canal on every tooth left in my mouth anytime. Dr. Howard Van is a genius with magic hands and a calm voice. I was referred by a co-worker and on my initial appointment was VERY pleased that, starting with the reception desk and the initial exam (history), the staff was calming and concerned about my well-being...especially after I told them I have a very BAD gag-reflex (Only gagged once during the x-rays!!!! ) Dr. Van was caring and honest about what he thought the treatment plan should be, he also understood that I needed to work within the parameters of the dental insurance I have through my employer. Not to disparage the last practice I was going to, but, I was told (by the prior practice) that every LITTLE thing (including a small cavity) REQUIRED a 'Specialist'.....NOT! (I felt like that commercial, or comedian, that was talking about a 'Dental Monitor') That is absolutely NOT the case with Dr. Van! If you live/work in West Riverside, CA (near the Galleria @ Tyler....in the Best Buy/Burlington shopping center).....I HIGHLY recommend this dental office! read more

Dr. Van has been my dentist now for several years. I now live out of state and still come to get my dental work done with him when I travel to California. I believe that speaks for itself. Overall Dr. Van is an excellent dentist and I don't believe I could find another like him. He has such a great bedside manner. He explains everything in detail as he treats his patient. Not good at all. They don't even have a full time hygienist working at the office. The doctor does unnecessary procedures on patients which is his main focus of income. Not trying to take care of the teeth, but doing works for repair. It is not surprising, as it is all about money for this office. Dr. Van and his entire staff (hygienist, front office, etc.) are very friendly, welcoming, and make sure to make you comfortable for the entire visit. I have put off dental work due to lack of insurance and dislike of most dentists. I went to two other dentists before finding Dr. Van who both quoted me over $5000 dollars and they wanted to pull a tooth. Dr. Van and his team took the time to x-ray, take pictures and examine the issue and come up with a reasonable solution. I've been Dr. Van's patient for about two years now. I really like that the office is small, so--as a patient--you build more of a close-knit friendship with the staff. Dr. Van is a great dentist; very kind, caring, and skilled. I never felt uncomfortable in his chair. He always genuinely asks for updates on the oral hygiene, any problems, concerns, etc. If you're a person with dentistry office anxiety--fear no more. This is were it ends!
