So sad that they're closing because their food is on point. No use waxing on about it though so instead, I wanted to shout out the staff here who worked their tails off on closing weekend. Despite managing long lines and waits, they all kept smiles on their faces and treated everyone so well, even though they had to deal with things running out left and right. I'm so impressed! Fries: I'm a bit picky but nothing wrong with it. I preferred the garlic Parmesan fries. Thin. Coleslaw: more broccoli slaw(which I prefer) little bland, but eat it with the pickles that come with your burger and it's perfect. Overall a great stop while driving through Indiana. I had the pork belly sandwich (pblfgt) which was very very good! The meat was excellent. My husband had the smash burger which was fine, but we added the remoulade sauce and that made a huge difference. It should be standard on a smash burger. traditional ones usually have sauce. The kids menus were just fine and our kids enjoyed their meals. We sat outside which was lovely as south bend doesn't have a lot of outdoor spaces to eat at. Our server was nice, but it was only his third day so he didn't know the menu or beer list very well. We don't fault him for it and the service was still good. He was attentive but not overly so. Overall I would recommend this place. It was delicious and we will definitely be back to try other menu items. read more

Decided to try Howard pork for lunch. I got a carry out. There was only one couple in the restaurant when I was there at 1pm on a Thursday. I'll start with the good things. Waitress was friendly and helpful. Space is clean and modern. The pork was tender. The bun was fresh. The pickles were delicious The description for my sandwich said it was pork butt burnt ends. It was not Burnt ends. It was moist hunks of pork. The meat tasted fresh and was cooked well but, it didn't really have much flavor. It was definitely not smoked or grilled in anyway. It just tasted like slow cooked pork. The sauce on the sandwich was Carolina gold barbecue. It was OK but Carolina sauce is heavy on the mustard. It would be nice if they had a variety of sauces or at least one choice of a red bbq sauce. For my side, I chose southern slaw. It was shredded cabbage, shredded carrot, and a mayo base. There was absolutely no seasoning or kick to the slaw at all. It was so bland. I didn't end up eating the slaw. I wish I had chose a different side. I've never had such a bland coleslaw in my life. All in all, it wasn't bad but it also wasn't great. It was just so so. I would probably go back and try something different. I had the little piggy with southern slaw as my side. I would not order that sandwich or that siagain. But I would give the restaurant another chance. It would also be nice if they stepped up the Decor a bit lol. The walls are plain- nothing hung on them. The shelves are empty. It looks like the restaurant isn't ready to open yet. So maybe they need a decorator lol read more

Excellent food. It's also nice that the bar is kid friendly until they get a liquor license. It's fun to sit there with the whole family. Though my daughter says they shouldn't get a liquor license if it means kids can't sit at the bar anymore. read more

Met a friend at this restaurant last weekend. It was my first visit. The restaurant was clean, the service was quick and friendly. The restaurant is conveniently located next to Howard Park so after lunch we enjoyed a walk along the east race walkway trail. Good food and good experience. My family and I came to South Bend for a youth hockey tournament. In between games, my daughters decided to play at the playground at Howard Park. When it came time to get a bite to eat, the name of the restaurant being "Howard Pork" across from Howard Park was comedic genius to my 9 year old girl. It was a great choice!! The service was incredible! The hostess was very friendly and attentive. She knew the menu well. Interacted with my daughters so kindly. The restaurant is very kid friendly. They invite the kids to draw pictures while waiting for their food and then after the meal, they hang their drawings up in frames for everyone to see. Even the owner/chef came out to visit us and say hi. The restaurant had a modern feel, but not pretentious. Whether you arrive dressed for a nice evening, or dressed to spend the afternoon in a rink, watching youth hockey, you'll fit right in. The food was amazing! Children's portion sizes would easily satisfy an adult. The iced mocha was one of the best mochas I've had in a few years. My daughters loved the hand dipped, thick Oreo milkshakes. Definitely try the milkshakes! We also had the Cauliflower mushroom soup and the Carrot bisque. Very flavorful! My daughters and I went for the 1/4 lb Smash burger and truffle fries. So delicious! Checked out Howard Pork on Monday, and I really enjoyed this place. It is very clean and modern inside, with good music and good atmosphere. They got swamped right as we walked through the door but the server was nice, polite, and very professional. She even gave us complimentary chips to apologize for the small wait. I had the Lil' Piggy, and the burnt ends were absolutely fantastic. We also enjoyed the seasonal bean soup and it was perfect for winter time. I didn't much care for the Italian Soda as it was much less flavored than I would have preferred, but that's more of a personal preference over execution of the drink itself. 10/10 will absolutely be returning read more

Food descriptions looked wonderful but the dishes disappointing. The fries were not hot or crispy even the second time they brought them. Maybe that's from the way they soak them beforehand to reduce the starch which the server touted as special?? The pork belly sandwich was greasy and lacked flavor . The experience today was unacceptable. Yes, we had a large group, but after several order errors, our meal arrived 43 min later. Literally!!!! Might I add, this was after we ordered an additional appetizer and it arrived before the replacement meal. Another guest decided to cancel his order and eat elsewhere. One apology about the kitchen being "backed up", that's it. While we waited, no additional drink refills or much correspondence. They brought the child a packaged Oreo while he waited for his meal. This entire encounter was low in quality of food, service, and communication. I ate my fries with an aioli sauce because the meal I ordered had poorly paired ingredients; frankly not good. I hate to write this review, but great improvements are needed here to main sustainability. read more

Excellent place! It has a unique & creative menu, I wanted to order everything. I decided on the Bird Legs, awesome, tender, juicy, & flavorful. The mini-potatoes were very good, surprisingly, all were properly cooked. There were 5 of us, so I tasted a lot. The Truffles Fries were awesome, spicy ones ok. Burger, best in town. Calamari, tender & tasty. All the sauces were really good. Wedge salad was not traditional, yet very good. Pickles were really good, sweet followed by spice. The pork belly dessert was decent.
