I have been a customer of Houston's Best Pet Sitters since the original owner had it (20+ years). The company was sold several years ago to the current owner. It is not the company that it use to be. The owner has charged my credit card for services that were canceled way in advance. I have called and messaged her through her client portal, and she refuses to return calls and message back. My first concern is what would happen if there was an emergency with my pets. Would you not respond in a pet emergency as well? If she is this unreachable, it is a grave concern. Secondly, you trust these people with your pets, your home and they have your credit card that they charge erroneously and then they ghost you. Proceed with caution. This is not the Houston's Best Pet Sitters it use to be. read more

I started using this company April-May last year for dog walking services. They initially paired me with Lynn. I was skeptical because on the meet and greet she stated she didn't have dogs, only cats. But, I decided to give it a try. At first, everything seemed alright. I have a very socialized, happy golden doodle. However, I noticed my doodle would start running to her crate after walks (I have an indoor Ring camera). And my neighbor would tell me the dog sitter seemed off when she would see her out walking her dogs at the same time. Then one day, Lynn came by and my dog wouldn't leave her crate. She cowered. Lynn shook her crate, yelled, and attempted to pull her out (she couldn't because Lynn was severely overweight). She did this for 10 min until she gave up and left. My Ring camera is in plain site and this was all recorded! I had to get my brother to go over and make sure my dog was okay -- and sure enough as soon as he came by she ran to him and greeted him happily. Lynn obviously mistreated my dog. And instead of blaming the company I gave them the benefit of the doubt and talked with the owner, Cara-Lisa. She said she would handle Lynn and assigned to a couple of other sitters in the meantime. But she never compensated me back for the "walks" Lynn NEVER did that day. Anyways, things seemed better, but never the same. Eventually, I took a different position and didn't need a dog walker anymore. I attempted to get my keys back from the company (which they make you pay for). But they didn't want to give me back my second set of keys! I attempted to contact Cara-Lisa multiple times and didn't hear back until a week later! By that time, I had to pay my apartment complex to re-key my home for SAFETY. I don't ever write reviews. But I felt this review was necessary. If you want ABUSIVE, inexperienced dog walkers who cheat you out of your money by only walking your dog half the time you paid for, than this company is for you. I was recommended to use this company by my boss. After having some ~issues~ with previous dog sitters, I was a bit worried about trying again with someone new. I had reached out to HBPS but was disappointed to hear they didn't have a sitter for my neighborhood- yet. Luckily for me they hired Yvonne soon after! My husband and I have really irregular work schedules and a new baby, so it's not easy for us to always be home mid-day to let the dog out or juggle everything. Alex has been a saving grace. She's taken such good care of Taco (and us!), we're really grateful that we can depend on her. She is always really quick to respond to my texts and get us on the week's schedule and Melanie (HBPS's owner) helped set up our autopay, so everything sort of takes care of itself. It's one less thing for me to worry about during the week. Alex also texts pictures of Taco while they're out, which is a nice touch and a treat to receive mid-day. Though we already loved Alex, she went above and beyond one day, when I was having the worst week ever, showing up with a 'cheer up' cupcake from a local bakery. Who does that? Alex does that. I used this pet-sitter once and cannot recommend. Everything was fine in the beginning, and I appreciated the texted photos I got of my cats each day. However, when I got home, I found that the food container seemed emptier than it should, and my cats had gained a little weight. It turns out that the sitter had been feeding twice the amount of food while I was gone, having misread my instructions and feeding twice a day instead of once. The sitter apologized and said that after the first days when the cats weren't eating all their food, she cut back, and I do believe she was sincere and that this was likely not a common mistake (which is why 3 stars and not 1). However, when choosing a pet-sitter, you need to have a lot of trust in the person caring for them, and I just do not feel like I could trust them after making a mistake such as this. however minor. read more

My biggest fear for booking the family vacation, was that I don't have a place for a dog to stay. Because we had bad experience with our previous dog sitter. I was out of town for 11 nights and was really nervous about leaving my kitties since I had never left them for such a long stretch. Terry came over to meet the kitties and discuss their care and sign the paperwork for emergency vet care,etc. They were very well cared for and happy while I was gone. I got emails and pictures during my trip with updates which put me at ease during the trip. I would not hesitate to leave them in Terry's care again. The service they provide is quite good, but their cancellation policy is ridiculous. I've used this service for a few years now and my cat is happy with the woman who always comes to take care of her. I won't lie - they're conscientious and do a good job. But I canceled a service more than 5 full days in advance due to an unexpected guest over a holiday and am going to be charged. The. Full. Amount. This is ridiculous. Would highly recommend HBPS. We've used them for years, for my senior (now passed dog) and now with our energetic puppy. We've done both dog-sitting and dog-walking services and have been extremely pleased with Judy. I've used these guys for the last two years and always arrive home to happy cats. Okay, they aren't exactly thrilled I left them, but they are way more happy that Houston's Best Pet Sitters came by twice a day to feed them, clean their pans and play. I know. I know. It's not the 24-7 pets and attention they are used to, but it's in their own home, they lounge in their usual spots and aren't dragged off to a boarding facility. I think it's the BEST way to leave your kitties when you travel. The sitters are amazing, too. They send me text updates with cute photos so I can bore people in far off lands with photos of my cats! If I could give HBPS 10 stars, I would. I cannot adequately express what good hands your pets are in with everyone here. Melanie is the consummate professional on all fronts from scheduling, to billing, to dealing with an ever changing array of needs and concerns of mine. I always seen to have some sort of special needs pet and she works tirelessly to make sure my guys get what they need, from the sitter best suited to provide it. Originally Suzanne was our primary sitter and she was wonderful, going above and beyond to take care of one cat in particular that had unusual medical needs, when we were out of town. We were very sad when she moved too far away to work for us any more. However, her shoes were quickly filled by Lynne who has also been an absolute godsend. She rolls with the punches also, provides ongoing updates to let me know how things are going, and always readily shifts gears when needed, usually on the fly. These women are truly committed to what they do and I am so grateful to each one of them. I've had many pet sitters over the years and HBPS is by far the best. My dog, Bridger, likes pretty much everyone he meets but he REALLY likes his dog walkers from HBPCS. Scheduling and payment can be done online which is super convenient and you will also receive an email containing your upcoming appointments. I was out of town for two weeks and really worried about leaving my cat alone for that period time. Jenny from Houston's Best Pet Sitters put my mind at ease the minute I met her. She took careful notes during our initial meeting about what she needed to do for my cat, Henry. While I was gone, she sent me three (3!) emails with photos and updates letting me know Henry was doing well. Melanie, the owner, is very rude, condescending and has a bad attitude. I believe she overcharged me and inquired about my invoice. She immediately became very defensive and very condescending. I had problems with her attitude before but the walker seemed nice that I went ahead and hired them. I should have known. The difference in the invoice was a measly $19 that for Melanie to become so nasty over the phone over such a little amount shows how unprofessional she is. She would rather lose a customer over $19 than to act professional and work it out. Everything's great until she makes a mistake and then WATCH OUT. Having used dog walkers in several states for over 14 years, I'd say she was the worst. I've always had good luck with dog walkers until her. With so many other dog walkers--why waste your time and money on her? Go somewhere else. read more

I do not recommend this pet service. I live in Rice Military and was concerned about the security of my home. I elected to terminate HPDS's services when my usual dog sitter (who was excellent) was no longer available. When I asked for my house key to be returned to me, Melanie responded rudely and implied that my request was unusual and unreasonable. Initially, she would only agree to tell the replacement pet sitter to "destroy" my key. I had to resort to writing to her to tell her that if my key were not returned to me she would have to reimburse me for changing the locks on my doors. My key was returned to me, but now that I have a new dog walker I just want to say that there are MUCH better services available. read more

I love this service! When I get home my animals are well taken care of, the cats' litter boxes are clean and most important my babies are mad at me! I also have chihuhuas and a 75 gallon salt water tank, all of which they take care of. And I love getting the text message with pictures of the cats and dogs. We are very pleased with this pet service. We are still somewhat new to Houston and had just moved to a different area. Having two dogs can add up at boarding facilities, but I found Houston's Best Pet Sitters was very reasonably priced. We set up a meet and greet, which I was a tad worried about since I have one somewhat aggressive dog (she's my protector!). She took to Jules like no other!! Jules was very friendly and knowledgable. She asked all the right questions and made me feel very comfortable about her taking care of our fur babies. We got texts every day with pictures and we came home to very happy pups!
