It's prices are a bit high for thrifters but lower than what I've seen in consignment shops. Their prices are fair from what I saw. They also have a great pricing structure! Each item has a price tag with the starting price, as well as dates and reduced prices at that date. So everything gets discounted as time goes on - I wish more shops did this ! It also means there's always good deals and consistent turnover. The ladies working here are extremely polite and welcoming too. You're greeted when you enter and (today at least) offered water because of the heat. I have been a customer for over a decade and always enjoyed the kind and sweet reception from the ladies working at Houston Junior, not until today. As I was shopping and researching on a wooden comb, I was under surveillance of a short blond hair lady, who keeping asking if she could help. Even though I told her I don't need any help, she kept a constant eye on me. I was browsing a low value necklace and decide to purchase and wanted to put back the display stand. That is when she yelled at me and telling me there was a store policy of showing. I told her I was trying on a $8 necklace and decided to buy it. I took the necklace with the stand out and just wanted to put the stand back to the showcase. And she seemed annoyed and lectured me there is a showing policy even though there isn't one on display or being told verbally. I have been shopping here many years, and my understanding was I can open the case myself and try it as these are all low value items. Her treatment is rude and I felt unwelcome and disciplined. read more

I was fortunate to run across this place when my daughter first moved to Houston. They had some cute restoration Hardware dining chairs that I bought her that just needed the upholstery cleaned. The ladies at the store were helpful and lovely and a highlight. Recommend checking out this store and supporting their cause. read more

My good friend wanted to see if the jeans her sister bought her was really as cheap as she said, so we drove from Clear Lake, Houston to the Houston Junior Forum. Upon arriving, there was some street parking and side back alley parking that I got a little thrilled about. When we walked in, one of the workers joked around with me about how she would charge me to use the restroom. Thank goodness, she was only joking. However, this same lady persistently joked around with me throughout my whole shopping experience. At times, she made me uncomfortable when she even got some of the customers to kid around at me. After my restroom break, I browsed the clothing, furniture, tea sets, lamps, and international dolls. Everything was reasonable priced even the tea sets were marked by bundle which was something I've never seen before at a resale shop or even an antique. I was very surprised and interested by that. However, all of the clothing was outdated which I knew it would be that way, but that old and smelly old. Most of the tea sets were Japanese because I inspected the bottom of the saucers and very lightweight. Though, the prices were cheap just as my friend's sister said they would be. My friend ended up buying a few items. She picked out a green sweater for me, I tried it on and although it worked nicely, I had my eye on this lamp I liked. The lamp was Japanese oriental and such a beautiful lamp, but the price wasn't as reasonable, $60 for a used lamp. It worked, even though the shade was ugly. I really wanted that lamp, but I ended up not getting it because of the price and I didn't bring that much cash with me and wasn't gonna drive 1 hour depending on traffic from the Southside to the Northside again. Although, the lady who joked around with me worked out a deal and even told me that she would hold it until the next day. I've noticed that most of the people who work here are volunteers and although volunteers are good people, some are OK and will try to give you a hard time. The lady who checked us out kept giving my friend a difficult time when my friend asked her if she could simply tell her the price of each item since everything was half off. The volunteer rudely sighed, got angry, even messed up and tried to overcharge my friend until my friend politely asked her why this was a certain price, but listed it was a lesser price. Furthermore, it is extremely difficult to browse in this store since everything is close packed together. It was overwhelming, kinda felt like I was on an episode of Hoarders: Buried Alive. The aisles are nearly non-existence and it wasn't easy to pass another customer when passing in an aisle. It seems that most of the regulars are the elderly that live in the neighborhood which is convenient for them. The volunteers know them by name. Personally, I would never return, but if my friend wanted to come back I wouldn't tell her no. read more

I have to say, that I was so pleasantly surprised when I went into this thrift store. I was IMMEDIATELY warmly greeted by Miss Julia (Julie) who showed me around the store and explained the pricing and different areas of the building. There is a lot of bias and racism out there and I've experienced my fair share going to antique/thrift stores around Houston (the guild shop I'm looking at you). Not the case here! I love love love resale stores. This is your main stream resale get in get out store. They have the monthly discount system, were each month they reduce the price by about 25%. Now what is different about this resale store is if you are a senior citizen (or a really good customer), they will give you 10% off your purchase. They have also been known to reduce the price a day or so early, if you really want it. The ladies who work at the shop remember you and aways need an update of your life. They have great quality items and every time you go in it is a new adventure. read more

First the good - this resale shop has beautiful, high-quality items. The store is well run, clean, and the ladies who work there are very friendly. Now the bad-(or in my opinion the bad). If you are not from the area, and you came to the store thinking it was another thrift shop? It's not. The prices are definitely on the upper end, and it's obvious that they cater to a higher-paying clientele. While that's not a bad thing, if that's not what you're shopping for it could be a waste of your time if you're in a time crunch trying to visit as many thrift shops as you can while in Houston LOL. Really it's a matter of what you want to pay for. For example- a pair of women's good quality pants here runs $8 to $10 where at a Goodwill or other thrift store shop they may run $5. now at this store your size will be much easier to find so if you're willing to pay an extra $4 for convenience rather than digging at your typical thrift shop or Goodwill? then you may not mind paying the extra. So if you are looking for higher quality merchandise I would definitely suggest this store. Otherwise it's skipworthy. read more

Resale shop amongst the busy commercial area in the Heights. It's very neat and tidy an doesn't feel overwhelming, which is how I often feel inside thrift stores. Their selection of women's clothes is small, mostly matronly stuff. I hunted, but didn't find anything I really liked or needed (right now, that would be a silk blouse or colored pants). However, I really like their selection of housewares. It wraps around the walls of the entire store and their furniture is laid out showroom-style. There are a lot of glasses and vases for just a few bucks. They also have an automatic discount system where the longer an item is on the floor, the steeper the discount. If you need dishes, mugs, stemware, or vases, check here first! But only Mon - Sat 9am - 2:30pm. read more

I give 5 stars because the merchandise - especially the furniture is higher quality and fairly priced. In other words, a good deal but they're not giving it away. Clearly much of furniture was donated when someone older was down-sizing or else it was part of someone's estate. Most of it seems to be what an older woman with money and good taste would have bought 20 or 30 years ago. The merchandise runs heavily towards antiques and high quality reproductions. I love shopping in the Houston Junior Forum Resale Shop, particularly knowing that the money I spend goes to it's supported charities and scholarships. I never know what I will find there. I recently purchased an amazing piece of teak furniture that holds both wine bottles and wine glasses and am very happy with it. The piece was in great shape at a great price. read more

I'm not a resale shop fiend by any means but sometimes when I'm feeling spendy I'll go in a few resale shops until the shopping bug quits biting me. There's not a huge selection but it's definitely worth stopping in for. I would say 90% of everything is fairly priced and I know that all proceeds go to a worthy cause. There's some clothing most of which was in very good condition and A LOT of furniture and antique-y type goods. Watch out though, they're only open until 2:30 PM! read more

If you are interested in antiques, there are plenty and arrive on a daily basis. Many of the furnishings in my home come from this place. The Houston Junior Forum Resale Shop is wonderful for finding gently used furniture and household items. I've been looking for furniture, dishes and other items to help furnish my friend's new apartment. It's clean, neat and has a very nice staff. I go often because you never know what new items will come in. I understand that the shop's profits go to support their projects - scholarships and grants - so I feel good about buying things there. I love the Houston Junior Forum resale store for several reasons. I have made several donations and consignments to this store, and their staff has been extremely polite, professional and accommodating. They have picked up several furniture items from my home and were willing to work around my schedule for pick-ups. This is an outstanding organization to donate your lightly used furniture and clothing - the best I have found in Houston. I have visited the store on several occasions and have found some real "gems" in the home decor section.
