First time here this "thrift" store is on the upper scale, i wouldn't consider these thrift prices but you will find many great things in good condition. I found 2 manolos my size for $75 i couldn't justify the price for how worn they are despite knowing how expensive manolos are but luckily the store lowers the price automatically if its not bought in 2 weeks (something like that) i never came back for them i hope someone who loves the shoes got them and not a reseller! They have small areas of different things like furniture, jewelry, the main area is clothes and shoes. You need to bring your ID to buy anything, they have security at the door which is good. Overall, i'll be back time to time to see if i score some manolos. I saw some coach purses overpriced imo. read more

It's a beautiful store they've got amazing deals on Fine China and furniture but I went in to look this day at the jewelry cuz I heard they had some great jewelry well they do have some , but what they have is very difficult to see because it's all just sort of laid out on some glass shelves so when you're looking at one shelf you're really awesome looking at the bottom too and you can't see any of it very clearly plus it's hard for the people to get out without scrambling it all up I don't know why they just don't use trays like everybody else ! All the volunteers were very nice and helpful they even offered to carry stuff over to put it on a save table for me ! read more

My mom LOVES shopping at thrift stores and gets giddy about antiques, so when someone told her about Blue Bird Circle, it was quickly added to the list of places we should check out while in town. We were surprised to see armed police officers posted at the front door, monitoring for trouble, and wondered how out of control thrift shopping in Houston could be (lol) we spent about an hour inside browsing and looking through things without any issues. In addition to rows of furniture and dishes, they also have a jewelry section, an art section, and extensive clothing section. Thrifting isn't my cup of tea, but the store was merchandised well and their displays were eye catching. They had dozens of employees walking around offering help and a few restocking items. It seemed like it was a well run retail establishment. read more

FYI: They have reduced hours and are only open Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday from 10am-3pm, as well as Saturday, from 10am-2pm. This is a cool enterprise because it's a volunteer-run shop wherein the revenue goes to support pediatric neurology. Fairly large selection here. They have a lot: clothing, art, furniture, kitchenware, jewelry, home decor, and more. Left without any purchases. I saw a couple interesting kitchen items but they were a little too expensive for me. I didn't bother looking closely at the clothing as it seemed to be an older style. They also carry some expensive antiques. Saw a couple beautiful Tang Dynasty style horses ($4,000 each) and two 19th century bronze Foo Dogs ($2,000 each). The tags on these items had a list of reduced prices, if the items were still available by a certain date. So if you want something but can't afford it, you can return and see if it's still there. I don't think the staff is honest about displaying and selling items that are consigned to them. I have to question the ethics of the organization in general and how much money is actually given to charity and how many items are actually sold at a very low price to outside individuals connected to staff working at the organization. Another resale shop in H Town. Nicely organized and has a smaller selection. Staff was super friendly here and watch you like a hawk! They don't want you breaking or touching things. I found a 2000.00 bird house which was a first for me! I'm glad I don't like birds after seeing this. Prices are pretty high here so be sure to have some monies on you for everything. More clothes here that were much nicer than other places I have seen. This is far from the Salvation Army price range but you will get better quality. You will have to pay for it. My husband and I decided to drop into this resale shop to do some browsing. As soon as we entered the store, there was this really weird vibe. We were never greeted by the ladies sitting behind the counter or acknowledged. As we are walking around the store looking at furniture, my husband and I noticed that there was an older lady following us. Then there was an older man who was following us after she realized that we noticed her antics. Dear Blue Bird Circle, I will never shop at your store. You made me feel uncomfortable and in this day and time your true colors showed. Your purpose of helping children with developmental neurological conditions is negated and overshadowed by your outright blatant attempt to make shoppers of a different race feel unwanted in your store. Shame on you! I hope that all the volunteers who worked on Friday, January 11, 2019, are asked to never return. They are a horrible representation of the non-profit organization. read more

Since 1959, Bluebird Circle has been offering high quality clothing, furniture and accessories to bargain hunters in Houston. When you enter the W. Alabama resale shop, you won't know whether to go left and start browsing through the clothing items or head right and see what's new in the furniture section. Things are pretty well organized at Blue Bird Circle so you won't have to dig through everything just to see if there are a few items you want. Sizes are clearly marked and price tags indicate the cost of an item as well as let you know the date that item will be reduced again. Sometimes it is tempting to see if that great item you spotted will go down a few dollars but most great things don't stick around so you should snag it now. Plus, the store serves charitable causes so your extra dollars are going to do some good. I have found some of the best high end clothing at Blue Bird Circle. If I needed something formal, I'd go there first. Blue Bird Circle is one of my favorite thrift shops in Houston and I go as often as I am able. I even gathered up a group of friends and we rode down to the store together to thrift shop. They loved the store and we'll probably go back as a group again. read more

This resale shop sells a wide variety of stuff ranging from furniture, lamps, clothes, and dishware. I'm trying not to compare this place to The Guild (another resale shop) but to be honest it just isn't as good. I felt they were lacking the huge selection that The Guild had. But don't get me wrong, I'll still be checking this place out from time to time because a good deal is a good deal. One positive about this place is it's much more organized and neatly lay out. The furniture is set up like a show room in certain areas and it's easier to walk around and not as cramped as some places can be. If you are spending the day adventuring in the resale world, at least stop by and check it out. You never know when you'll strike gold. read more

I've got a few good things here. The prices are really good most of the time, but then there are items they REALLY like and it'll be the same price as new. It's a good place to get blazers, but I've found that sometimes the styles are a little outdated, especially in the pants department. They have pretty nice furniture sometimes. Some of it is dated, but there are some legit antiques mixed in. They've got great knick knacks too, so if you like eclectic vintage collectibles, you're in hog's heaven here. My biggest gripe is that it takes 10,000 years for the little old ladies to ring you up. read more

Excellent resale shop! This place has everything. It has quality clothing, furniture, accessories for the home, jewelry, and a host of other things too numerous to list here. It's very well organized. The Clothing for females and males is very easy to explore and look at. It is organized like a multi functional giant retail establishment. It is a charity organization and it is run by the members of the organization who are very very friendly helpful and knowledgeable of the merchandise and that is in the establishment. You have to visit this place before you go to a regular retail establishment looking for whatever you're looking for. More than likely they have it and most items are very reasonably price. A lot of the items especially furniture comes from high-end neighborhoods and I highly recommend that you look there before you look anywhere else. read more

This is my favorite Houston resale shop for furniture and housewares. This is THE place for nice antiques or high end furniture/household items. I have found some beautiful things here - especially wood furniture for refinishing. I don't find a lot of clothes here and I think the prices can be a little high for them. They also generally have some nice lamps and rugs and you can sometimes find some nice material. The people who work there are friendly. My only complaint is the back loading / pick-up dock can be unorganized. I once purchased a chest of drawers and they told me to pick it up at the loading dock. There were about 4 people already waiting to drop-off consignments. I asked an employee how the area worked and was told they didn't get involved with who was next and I had to work it out with the people already waiting. So - even though my furniture piece was sitting on the loading dock - I had to wait for 4 people to pull-up, unload their items (and a couple had a lot) and complete their paperwork for consignment BEFORE I could back-up and load my one piece of furniture. read more

Yes, they are open crazy few hours. You either need to be unemployed or take a vacation day or a long lunch to shop here. Oh, or go on a busy Saturday. If and when the entry window is open (or is it re-entry window? the space-talk I learned from Space Camp - the movie - is a little rusty), you are pretty golden or on your way to being golden. For example, the last time I was there, I spied with my little eye: a fur stole from Sakowitz, a 1940s era armoire, another 1940s piece, similar to an armoire, that was ruined by the previous owners. They painted the entire interior a hideous shade of semi-flat orangy-red. If you're seeking something a little less formal, they have lots (read racks) of clothes and great everyday furniture. Oh, and a room full of slightly more more formal furniture, paintings, and dinnerware. read more

This place is ridiculous. They are charging higher-than-new prices on quite a bit of their clothing. I saw some Walmart and Target brand clothing for $15-20, and this stuff is used. I get it, they're a "higher end" resale shop, but they need a reality check. I walked by their "new" clothing section and saw some things on the rack for hundreds (even over $1000) dollars...I know some of this stuff is designer brand, but what?! I frequent all of the resale and thrift stores in the area, and even the nicer ones around here have way more realistic prices. That said, the store is very clean, they have a security guard, and they definitely have some designer clothing, bags, and shoes. If that's your thing, and for some reason you want to pay new or almost-new prices for used stuff, definitely come here! I can't speak to their furniture prices and quality, because I didn't look at it. I did see a large globe for $750 though when I walked in the door, though. read more

I'm torn about this place. One half is old people, moth balls and clothes I wouldn't dare touch. The other half? Amazing furniture and finds beyond my wildest dreams. I couldn't believe the selection of furniture. There were retro pieces, vintage (think like 1950's) and some more modern stuff. The prices were really great. Things ranged from $50 to $1500, depending on what you are looking at. There were curio cabinets, credenzas, bed frames, wardrobes, coffee tables, dining tables, picture frames, and knick-knacks galore. I comepletly rescind my not so hot review of Blue Bird Circle. For the past 3 months Ive been going in twice a month and have had much better results. I dont know if its me or if theyve just completly changed but I have found so many awesome things there! I was in last week and I scored a pair of dr martens for $27! They were a perfect fit and completly broken in..... love. The new (or recently expanded) jewelry counter has yeilded several great finds as well. Some of the things are still too expensive. I am a thrifter!! I love spending lazy days off wandering through junk stores, consignment shops, thrift stores. I love finding little treasures that have been discarded by others only to become new found gems by me. Blue Bird Circle is my go to thrift store. I love the lay out. I love that it is always so organized and clean. I love that the merchandise is not crammed in and crowded together. I also love all of the women that work here. They are always so helpful and friendly. I have many treasures throughout my house that came from here. Every time my husband and I go to Blue Bird Circle he is blown away by the selection. He always says how he wished he had known about Blue Bird Circle when he was younger. He laments all of the money he spent on junk furniture that could have been half as much on high quality furniture that was no longer wanted in others homes. My friend Leonard has a weekly routine in which he goes to thrift shops to check out what they have. He has expensive taste but seems to almost always find nice little things. He took me along for one of his rounds and I must say I really enjoyed browsing through the store. I purchased a crystal vase from the store for $45, which I probably overpaid for (but it was my first time so it's ok). They had pretty cool stuff. I like how they keep lowering the price of items every few days! That was my favorite thing. I was going to go back in a few days to buy this beautiful painting that was going to $77 from $155, but as I was walking out they were taking it off the wall. I was so sad, it was really gorgeous! Beautiful, quaint shop, amazing products! I'm taken aback by the variety of products, and one of my favorites in the store is the shelves filled with books. I'm amazed the police come to offer security, including one who was casually sitting at his station while enjoying himself playing an acoustic guitar. Really shows community and collaboration. I do certainly apologize, as I have to, for startling the employees once with a slip in my dialogue with them that distressed them, which led to a mild panic where the police were dispatched and it was difficult to pick up after my words and talk it out to clarify everything, and I had to leave the shop. I actually got confused when the employees were walked to the backroom until the two officers calmly approached me, and although it could've been averted or walked through better, no matter who's side, it's nice they were calm and settled the matter as peacefully as possible then. But otherwise, the staff are friendly, communicative, and I see many of them really trying to make the best of their work. I came in one last time to not be afraid of the panic and move forward, really enjoying, again, the mood of the place and the business running through it. Highly recommended, it has a serious place in a location mixed into other shops, houses, and schools nearby. To be honest, I can't really measure in stars to be accurate and considerate, but I hope the details are more than plenty. read more

Based on Shana's review, I went here mainly to look for a formal gown to potentially change into during the wedding reception. But of course, I stopped to browse through other sections. When I first walked in, I was greeted by not one, but two security guards. Do they have that much problem with crime in this seemingly quiet stretch of W. Alabama just east of Montrose? Weird. Anyhoo, I wandered through the women's clothing section, shoes, accessories, and formal gowns. Everything is pretty well-organized by type of clothing and size and neatly-labeled with the price. I saw things from Banana Republic, Express, Talbots, and some old Ferragamo. What I liked best was they have a Filene's Basement-type price policy! The longer something is on the floor, the lower the price. I found a dark purple 3/4-sleeve silk-rayon sweater that was originally $8, but since it'd been on the floor for 6 weeks, was now $4. Belts (wide, skinny, you pick!) in a box were about $3 each. The downside was I felt these clothes were definitely things people got rid of cleaning out their closets and not necessarily old enough to be cool boho-vintage, but more matronly. I would come back to browse for cheap retail therapy, regularly to check the new merchandise, but not holding out much hope that I'll find something I love. read more

I tend to like their furniture selection here more than the clothes, but Blue Bird Circle is definitely a quality thrift store. You can be sure everything is clean and well-organized. It's similar to the Guild Shop on Dunlavy, but larger and with more room to browse. The few times I've been they've had some nice framed art for good prices as well. I agree with May about the clothing; I'm not going to find something weirdly 'cool' here but if you're looking for something basic you can probably come across it, and it'll be in good condition. This place is a little outside of my range so I don't come too often, but I must agree that their furniture collection is the most interesting. The Guild Shop on Dunlavy also has a large selection of furniture (but a little old fashioned), but Bluebird has wider range of styles and there is enough room so the furniture is not all just stacked and canned like sardines. As usual, I haven't seriously gone clothes shopping here, but I did shop for sports coats here and while I couldn't find something my size, I did notice they all seemed to be in nice shape and very clean. Unfortunately their book collection is pretty stagnant and not too interesting, but they do have a nice collection of wine glasses that rotates fairly consistently (even though they often sell them by the 6+ set). Note that there are two places (one near the register in the artier "glass room" and one in the back) that have the wine glasses for sale. With all the thrift stores in the area, I do not understand why people would ever purchase wine glasses at retail. read more

They have super cute Asian antiques and funky cool vintage furniture that you just can not find anywhere else!! I have purchased more furniture here than anywhere else and if I can wait for the price to go down, I can get it for a great price!! I have been going to this place for years, I mean years, to donate things and occasionally to go inside the resale shop to look around. I am a bit torn though because while most of the items are somewhat old and not quiet, the staff in the front of the store, the volunteers in blue vests, are incredibly sweat people, mostly older ladies. On the back end, the donation/resale side, that's where bad things can sometimes happen. There has been the same woman working the resale side of things for the entire time that I have been going to Bluebird, which is now about 9 years or so. I come maybe once every two months, so you'd think that we'd form some type of bond, but every time she is irrationally rude it is unbelievable. She rejects quality items left and right, which is understandable if they do not meet regulation; however, she also will turn down any items that you want to donate, and they also have a donation option. All along the way she insults your goods and makes you feel inferior. What I ask is, if you hate people why work with people? There are plenty of jobs not dealing with any type of customer service, so maybe this woman, or bluebird circle should take a hint and start looking for one of those. Regardless, I will continue to venture over to Blue Bird Circle out of necessity, seeing as how it is the only resale shop that I know of that will pay you a reasonable price for your goods, mind you-upon sale. read more

I was so excited that I was moving across the street from an enormous resale shop--I could do all my home shopping here! I dreamed a little too much though--there's not much cool retro furniture here. They tend to sell classic, traditional furniture. Cherry finished, curvy chairs with burgundy wine brocade upholstery seats. Parson chairs in floral prints. Windsor oak chairs. YAWN. I'm looking for cool chairs--so I noticed the poor selection of chairs. Pretty standard stuff--nothing exciting. The household items section is lacking. I didn't peruse the clothes section too much but it wasn't all that inviting. Overall, I thought some things were cute but it's PRICEY for a resale shop. Le sigh. read more

I really loved my experience there when I revisited after a long time. I think I've only been there once since I moved back to H-town in 2014. The volunteers are precious and so funny. They have no shame when it comes to directly asking for you to purchase some of their homemade items. They have, for example, these adorable handmade Easter/spring baskets - they are for $18 and $ goes to their foundation (Neuro research, I think). I was standing at the display, and the ladies were shamelessly saying "you need one! They are for a good cause, and who doesn't love them?" - That was all I needed - sold! I love it and that was actually all I purchased. I think thrift stores are tricky and definitely hit or miss. The pricing seemed great. In the clothing, they had better brands and I even found a couple of Diane von Furstenberg items, which is my current obsession. I also saw brands like Shelly Segal, lots of Chico's, some real furs, etc. Home decor and furniture wasn't compelling to me, at least the selection they have right now. I think they should sell more books, too - the selection they have is so sparse, mostly just cookbooks, but thrifting for books is a favorite pastime of mine. Because of their cause, I feel they deserve so much praise. However, I save 5 stars for "walking on water" and the selection just gave me a big empty sad when I left. I definitely was happy about my beautiful spring basket though, and I also thought it was very clean and well-maintained. Please stop over and give them a chance if you love to thrift-shop. read more
