I have donated countless items to Bluebird, thousands of dollars worth. I asked about consignment in my last visit and got the instructions and forms. I returned several months later with several large items, at the appropriate date/time for consignment. I was told there was a new policy of accepting consignments by appointment only. Despite the fact that the women there knew me, from the countless times I donated, despite the fact that I was there with the furniture and told them I had hired a man to help me bring it over, they would not make an exception to their new policy. I will never again donate or consign to Blue Bird. Short sighted and hateful approach by Blue Bird to a loyal patron of theirs who has donated countless dollars to them. read more

I made the mistake of having Bluebird sell my mom's jewelry on consignment. I chose them because of their charitable contributions but oh, what a mistake that was! I've never dealt with a more incompetent group of people in my entire life. It took several phone calls before they would even acknowledge that they had my mom's jewelry, even though I had signed a contract for it. After several months of not hearing from them I finally called and found out they sent a check out 3 months earlier to the wrong address. Even though the check was returned they never called me to confirm the correct address. I gave the the bookkeeper my current address and she assured me they would re-send the checks. Guess what? They sent them AGAIN to the wrong address! I finally went to pick up the checks and that, too, was a fiasco. They gave me the check that was returned 5 months ago but couldn't tell me if they had stopped payment on it or not. I know these folks are "volunteers" but if you're going to be doing business and handling people's belongings/money then please have some sense of business knowledge and competence. I filed a complaint with the BBB as well as the attorney general's office but warn everyone to do business elsewhere. These folks need a lot of help! read more

Blue Bird is a resale shop and charity guild run by kindly ladies who volunteer their time. It's a big shop, with a small clothing section to the left as you walk in. It seems to be predominantly women's clothing and shoes, but there are also men's suits, shirts, and slacks. To the right of the entrance is a separate room with more expensive jewelry and baubles, and further around toward the back is their large housewares and furniture sections. There really are some nice couches and bookshelves, armoirs and tables: nice antiques from charitable Houston families. The great thing about Blue Bird is if you've got your eye on something beyond your budget, the prices come down over time, like a consignment shop. So as long as that sweater or beer stein or chiffarobe hasn't been snatched up, if you come back a week or two later it may be 25-50% off. The hours make it tough to stop by during the work week, but for the less fortunate who need a suit for an interview, the Blue Bird is a godsend, and everybody else can stop by on Saturday mornings. read more

Luv this place! I always find things here in really good condition when comparing other 2nd hand stores. They have GREAT furniture! I'd say it can be more costly than the other shops, but as I mentioned, items are in really good shape and very attractive. I'd say their clothing items are very nice as well. Just so many different treasures to find. The staff are all usually friendly and some really enjoyable to talk with. I highly recommend this place. Great quality and fair pricing! GO! read more

I found some great finds at this little shop. I was in search of an outfit for a 70's party and they had a good selection.

The furniture here is usually high quality and priced reasonably. You aren't going to get a lot of cheap finds because the people pricing the items know their stuff (most of the time). The clothes sometimes offer up something, but I usually go for the furniture and home accessories. I have found a lot of fun and funky furniture, along with traditional styles. Sometimes you have to go back a few weekends in a row to find what you really want, but it's worth it. Also, remember that it's consignment. If you can wait it out and the piece is still there it will be cheaper. read more

The Blue Bird Circle has many great bargains, but beware the staff. I was the first one in line on Saturday. I wanted a French mirror. I walked into the store and pulled the tag on the large item. This boisterous woman accosted me and demanded the ticket. I just walked away. Since I wanted to shop more, I handed the ticket to a manager. I informed her that I wanted to purchase the item. When I went to check out, the boisterous woman had the ticket and had purchainsed the mirror. When I complained, the manager boldly lied, when she asserted that I told her I found the ticket on the floor. So I will never go to the Blue Bird Circle again, because I don't like rich, aging, snobbish liars. I give it one for excellence in lying and demeaning customers. read more

I took my mom and my 25-year-old daughter here, and there was something for all of us! Great prices, even new with tags, and we were so glad to know that all proceeds go to support the Pediatric Neurology clinic at Texas Childrens! The furniture selection was great too, and everything was so well organized! Will definitely be back! read more

Admittedly I haven't done much shopping at this consignment shop; however, I have brought multiple trips of goods to the furniture resale area. Their system is efficient and they let you know right off the bat if they can take your items or not so you don't have to give them away if there is no hope. I can also appreciate their efficiency in sending out the checks on the second Tuesday of each month. You often times get more money in those than you'd expect. The only downside in my opinion is that the same woman takes the furniture consignments every time I have come and she is very rude. I wish she would have a better attitude and I would feel more at ease about giving her my expensive items! read more

CONSIGNORS BEWARE!!!!! WE PUT ITEMS ON CONSIGNMENT at the BBC AND WENT BACK TO SEE WHAT PRICE THEY HAD PUT ON THE ITEMS Unfortunately, we could not find any of my items we put on consignment in the store I contacted some of volunteers to see if they could find them They said they could not find them or so they said. Then some time later we got a phone call from the store saying "Oh we found your items But one was sold and one was out of consignment". I said i would like to come back and pick it up They said "Oh We donated it to the disabled vets aka DAV." However, the item was still in the store and was not donated any where. They said it was their property now and if I wanted it back,I would have to buy it. This place is just about as dishonest as it can be. We believe they are hiding the consignors items so they can not be sold. then after they are out of consignment they become their property and "rip off" the consignors Beware and go back in the store and see if your items are still there. I have mixed feelings about this place. As a buyer, I've found some pretty sweet deals here. I bought a three piece set of vintage Broyhill bedroom furniture, but when I got it home it still had the contents of the previous owner, including old, dirty underwear and several dead cockroaches. Even still, I loved the furniture and cleaned it without much complaint. I do, however, have problems with their consignment process. I have consigned a few items there, including a couch that was about a year and a half old. When I took it to the woman who handles furniture consignments, she heavily scrutinized it for stains. There was a small water stain on the bottom of the cushion- not visible when you look at the couch. Because of this, she told me that they would not be able to take my couch for consignment but would "happily accept it as a donation." So, either way they would sell my couch on their floor, but the stain would somehow magically prevent me from receiving a portion of the proceeds. She could not explain this logic to me. If you actually go look at their furniture and under the couch cushions, several things are broken or stained. This is the nature of a thrift shop. I felt like she was trying to find any possible excuse to make sure my furniture would be a donation so that the store could keep all of the proceeds. Needless to say, I wanted to speak to a supervisor. She didn't want to deal with the hassle, so they took my couch on consignment. As soon as the couch went to the store floor (six weeks later) it sold. When I got a check in the mail, they sold my "stained" couch for $300 (which is actually what I paid for it new). I feel that trying to find crafty ways to get out of giving consigners their money is extraordinarily dishonest. Also, they draft checks once a month, which is standard, BUT it takes them a really long time to mail checks- sometimes a week after they are drafted- so be prepared to wait for well over a month after your furniture sells to actually get your money. Other consignment charity guilds in Houston are much more pleasant to deal with and you don't feel as if they are trying to rip you off. read more

A fun place to shop but don't EVER take in clothing for consignment! Learn from my mistake - you will literally get paid pennies, no matter the designer, perfect condition or a current style. I learned the hard way. Would have been infinitely better to donate my items rather than be paid $9 for a $1200 gown! What a shocker. read more

I do really like this shop! It is priced higher than some of the thrift shops around, but they do seem to have a higher number of gems, and things that are really nice! We just got a beautiful Council Craftsman table and 8 chairs for less than 1/4 of the price of the table alone, if it were new. They do also seem to get some higher end antique furniture that you would normally find in antique stores. It is worth checking if you are looking for something nice for your home. I don't spend too much time looking at the clothes, so I cannot comment on them. Have fun!! read more
