had a highly unsatisfactory experience with Houston Car Audio and wish I could give this place zero stars. I purchased a Pioneer audio system and had it installed here for for my Honda Accord. paid extra to enable the audio controls from my steering wheel, but they do not work at all. To make matters worse, there is a constant static noise coming from the speakers since the new audio system has been installed , which makes driving unbearable. Additionally, my camera display has dulled since this change was made. I have called numerous times to make an appointment to get it checked by them, but each time the owner claimed they were too busy to assist me. He insisted that I come in on weekdays, but when I did, he told me he didn't have any staff available to help and had no idea when he could fit me in. He was rude and said his installation was not the issue even without checking it. This level of customer service is unacceptable. I strongly advise against using this business. It is clear that once they have your money, they have no interest in providing support or resolving issues. Don't waste your time or money here--find a place that values its customers and stands by its products. read more

The owner is very honest and straightforward, and his prices are competitive. He doesn't push you towards the expensive stuff, but after I asked him what he had in his personal vehicles, I decided to get a Kenwood Excelon installed. I visited this store because the radio in my son's car was not producing any sound. I described the problem to the person who was working that day. They advised that it was the amp and suggested ordering an amp online and they could install it. I purchased an amp and sent my son back to have it installed. So,e $200 later between the cost of the amp and the install the radio was still not producing any audio. The radio had power, my phone connected to Bluetooth, but no sound. The same person who said it was the amp then told my son, after that "fix" did not work, that well, it must be something else wrong. Really? You think? My son reminded this individual that they were the person who said it was the amp in the first place and of course they don't remember that conversation all of a sudden. The problem was a blown fuse... a $2 fuse. Lesson learned, my fault completely, but I will NEVER patronize this store again. I have two other projects that my son wants done to his car and I would have been more than happy to have them do all the work if I felt they were a more reputable business. When I didn't see a listing in Yelp, I should have kept on looking for a recommended place. But I didn't because the location was convenient. Live and learn. Because my mother didn't have a properly working car radio, I decided a nice early Christmas present would be to buy/install a new car stereo and then get the vehicle detailed. I took the car in and the installation was done quickly, and the mechanic was personable, no problem there. However, he showed me how it worked before I left, but when I got home and demonstrated to my mother, we found we couldn't get any AM channels, only FM. She took the car back right away with the purchase/warranty paperwork to ask they look and determine what the problem was. She was informed that it was likely a problem with the antenna and she needed to go to a regular car mechanic and pay $25 to get it fixed. So she and I went to a car mechanic. The mechanic said he wasn't an expert but he took a look and read through the manual which came with the radio. He then called Houston Car Stereo up himself, with the result that the manager Muhammed agreed it was likely an antenna adapter problem and they would fix it and make it good for free. So BACK we went to HCS where we were told by the original mechanic that they didn't have the type of adapter needed in stock (it's an older car), but their place around the corner might when they opened. So we said we'd sit and wait. The result was that whatever the problem was back behind the radio, the necessary repair was made, and we FINALLY drove away with a functioning radio. I don't want to think that the lack of an adapter in stock or incorrect diagnosis of some other problem originally sent my mother's car home without it functioning properly because that would mean they knowingly were not completing service and selling something that wouldn't work. The good news is that the manager made it right after he got a call from a knowledgeable person. I'm a reasonable person and would happily work with somebody if they were upfront about a problem, and would even be willing to pay more if it was a "car" versus installed equipment problem. Overall, it all worked out finally, but I'm not sure how I feel about the whole experience. read more

I walked in with specifics on what I want and with one three minutes they offered me a $360.00 radio that needs another $165.00 in accessories before installation fees. Not willing to even offer another radio as an option. He said it's the best one they have. I didn't ask for the best one. Once I asked for another option the conversation shut down. Even though some of these visits were several years apart, Mohammed and Dia recognize me and remember my name as if I was there last week. 20ish years ago (when I was young and broke) I was drawn to HCS by their prices, but after the install I was very impressed with their service and customization skills. While today they're my first choice in stereo upgrade, I still secretly shop prices with their competitors before every purchase just to be safe. I have yet to use another company and always find myself back at Houston Car Stereo making an appointment. I've recommended HCS to friends and they have all been very happy and thank me afterwards. I went here after going to car toys. I got right in and had my touch screen installed for $160. I was quoted $430 at car toys and Would have had to wait all day. They also wanted to charge me $100 for a wiring harness that I did not need. Also another $100 for the backup camera that I already bought that only required hanging it from my license plate. I bought a used ford truck with an aftermarket radio that had touch screen and backup camera, but Bluetooth and camera had some problems. The manager is super nice, but not that technical, however his tech took it apart while we waited and fixed two out of the three issues. The last issue required rewiring the rear camera feed, which he showed me was poorly done, and he didn't have time to do then, but offered to call me in a few days or make an appointment to come back when he wasn't so busy. Overall, he called me twice with available times, and also fixed everything Very reasonably. I was very pleased with his help and professionalism. Again, the manager's ideas about the radio problems weren't initially the solution, but his tech was excellent and fixed things the manager wasn't sure he could do, but everyone was super nice and I would tell anyone to try them out.
