Posting this again because our friends mentioned they are using this service and noted that my Yelp review has mysteriously disappeared.... We used to use house broken exclusively. When using them for check-in's for cats while we were away they were fine. They would make the daily check in. However when we started using them for dog walking the service was entirely unprofessional. We had our walker cancel on us last minute twice before we stopped using them. Both times we were hours outside the city and relying on our dog being cared for so we could enjoy our day. The cancelation notice came in extremely late notice. Leaving us frantic to get back, as our dog had already been alone for 6 hours. The last time the cancelation happened the service told us the store where they house their keys closed early and they had no way to access our keys to get into our apartment. If you're going to have a third party hold the keys to your clients, and you have clients booked into the evening, better organization is needed. Both times only a shrug of an apology was offered. So yes to cat check ins absolutely no to relying on them for walks. (Or keeping accurate Yelp reviews, because I find it very suspicious my previous one has gone missing).. read more

These guys are the BEST! They get awesome, reliable walkers (and sitters) who really care about your dogs. I've used them for 6+ years - through 2 different dogs - and currently have a pit bull mix who is a HANDFUL yet they deal with him - and love him like he's their own. I trust anyone that they've vetted to not just walk my dog - but also stay in my home to dog sit. What has meant the most to me is how often they have gone above and beyond the call of duty - from cleaning up dog vomit (multiple times!) in my apartment - to meeting me at 7am with my/their set of keys because I locked myself out - to taking my dog to the ER because something wasn't right and I was still at work. On one occasion, Brooke had to stay with one of my dogs in the ER while he tragically went to doggy heaven because I couldn't get there in time. She was his angel and there is no way you can repay someone for that. And Vivian will always call or text to see how my dog is doing if she knows he's been sick. They really care. I fell in love with HouseBroken a year and a half ago on my way to work when I passed a dog walker gently coaxing the smallest of his charges to keep walking.  "C'mon sweetie. We're almost home. You can do it."  I've relied on HB to care for my boys ever since. I should mention to the reader that my boys happen to be two charming pet rats. Now I know rats aren't everyone's cup of tea, but the HB team seem to have really taken a liking to them. One of the sitters sent me a text during his initial visit to say Oliver was seeming a bit reserved and asked if he should push harder to make friends with him or give him his space. By the end of the week he reported (in one of the daily notes that HB staff leave behind) that Oliver had warmed up to him considerably. During another of my vacations a different sitter proudly wrote:  "Louie is sitting contently on my shoulder as I write this note to you." I have found all HB staff to go above and beyond. Just this past week I made the mistake of dropping my new key off to the wrong address. When I spoke to the scheduler she reassured me that the owner was already on her way to the other address to retrieve it.  Vivian's first attempt was unsuccessful and so she went back later in the evening. I received a call from Brooke about 9 pm that night letting me know that HB was in possession of my key after Vivian had coaxed the neighbors to go through their trash to look for it. I moved to the area a couple months ago and a friend referred me to Housebroken for pet sitting my two cats when we travel. I have to admit I was nervous using a service rather than a trusted friend or individual pet sitter, but I didn't know anyone in the area yet and decided to try it out. I am so happy I did! They are great about coming in, spending time with the cats, and cleaning up the litter box area. My cats are always happier when I get home from trips now. Fast forward a couple months and we adopted a sweet dog with separation anxiety. Housebroken comes in to walk her most days at lunchtime, but it is easy to cancel before 8am if I know I will be working from home that day (they don't charge if you cancel before 8am). I'm very impressed with their service and find it to be cost effective as well. I highly recommend them! read more

Housebroken was such a wonderful fit for my dog Huxley and me. They are always very quick to respond to emails and they listen and take note of special requests. They are also very kind and loving. Huxley was always so excited when his primary walker would come to take him out. I also love that they keep you informed about your pet's walk. They leave notes informing you if the pet went #2 or not and they also let you know if anything seemed wrong with your pet. For examplr, when Huxley was limping they left me a note about it. They are thorough and really treat the pets well. I also appreciated the fact that they serve the Weeksville area, as I had a hard time finding a dog walker there. When I decided to move upstate, they were really sad to see Huxley go. While I felt bad because I know he's not an easy boy to say goodbye to, I was also very touched by how much they cared. I've been absolutely blown away by the customer service and the genuine love for the pets that Housebroken has shown time and time again. There are so many good things to say about Housebroken, where do I start? Vivian and her team have been taking care of our pit mix, Hank, since we adopted him 2 and a half years ago, and they pretty much make it possible for us to have a dog in the city. They take Hank for his daily midday walk while we're working, and we've also boarded him with Jenna several times. It gives us such peace of mind to know that Hank gets walked by such competent and responsible people when we can't be there. When we first adopted Hank, we had to work a bit on his housebreaking and leash walking, and his walkers were patient and always thoroughly cleaned up any messes they walked in on. They also left notes to let us know how his walk went, and it just made us feel more comfortable to get these little reports as new pet parents. Hank is a pretty rambunctious dog, but we've never gotten any comments or complaints from Housebroken. It's a relief to know that we can trust them to manage his energy.  Although we try to keep last minute requests to a minimum, when things have come up, Vivian and her team have always been very accommodating with scheduling. The online scheduling system is super easy to use and convenient, and if we ever need to reach out to Vivian directly, we always receive a very prompt response. Not to mention they have the most affordable rates in the area. The boarding service is great too! We love that Hank gets to stay in a nearby home with other dogs, rather than in a kennel. My wife and I have used Housebroken's services for about four years now and they are responsible, reliable and trustworthy folks to come take care of your pets. And they love pets. We often see them walking dogs through the neighborhood; they're gentle patient and affectionate with whomever is on the leash. We use Housebroken to watch our cats when we are away. Our cats love them. In fact, when we come home, they generally first look around past our legs as we enter the door, likely thinking someone from Housebroken is there to play with them. When no one follows us in, they turn away...often circling a toy; reminiscing. We love them. Although our cats rebuff us when we return from a trip, we take comfort that our little men had it good while we were gone. I often provide too many instructions, describing the cats, their personalities, likes/dislikes, food choices, toy habits etc...and I'm 99% sure Housebroken reads them. It's kind of amazing to return home knowing our cats have been loved, and to find detailed notes about our cats' activities while we were away, how they ate, acted, played or hid; what housebroken did and how long they stayed. Just an update that we are still using Housebroken, 5 years later, and they have been nothing short of amazing throughout even the craziest circumstances. They've bailed me out when I lost my keys. They stepped in for same-day services for multiple animals when my mom was passing away. They wrote us a sympathy note when one of our tribe passed away. I've been using Housebroken since the beginning of 2011 for both dog walking and sitting. I cannot put into words how amazing the entire HouseBroken team has been year after year. As a single dog mom, I often have to travel for work at the last minute and work long hours. For years I would stress out over making sure my guy was properly taken care of--counting the hours on my hand trying to figure out when he was last let out or how I would arrange pet sitting at the last minute, yet again. Once the HouseBroken team came into my life, all those worries went away. The entire team is so wonderful, thoughtful, kind, flexible and I have never once had an issue with scheduling (or otherwise). They are so patient with my constant changing schedules and my flight delays--they even check to make sure I actually made it back especially during storm season. I can honestly say, my dog is a little disappointed when I come home from work trips. The team sends me photos (which has been my phone background for ages) and stories about the great times he is having with his temporary new animal and people siblings. He even has gone on an adventure or two upstate in the summer (I myself was jealous he was having a better weekend with the HouseBroken team than I was at work). I have one story with HouseBroken that sums them up perfectly. I was home sick with a terrible flu but decided not to cancel since I couldn't manage the thought of standing, much less walking my big guy. I forgot to let the team know I would be lurking in my bedroom. When our walker came in he immediately greeted Harvey and they had an in-depth conversation about the weather and how they were doing...I kid you not. Harvey was quickly taken on a long walk. So long, that I almost became worried something bad had happened. But no, it was a beautiful day so our walker decided he and Harvey needed a little extra exercise. After coming home, our walker told Harvey what a good boy he is, how wonderful their time was together and made sure to give him an extra cookie. I'm baffled by this experience. I specifically picked this place because of all the 4-5 star reviews. My experience with them was less than stellar. I was going to run a long, long review but... TL;DR Management was the problem. Dog walker himself was nice when I met him, I think. I really don't know how a place with such high ratings could turn out so unpleasant. Idk if I'm an anomaly or if people who have bad experiences just don't review? This whole thing was a constant source of anxiety for me throughout my time using them. I work M-F and just needed a dependable place to walk my dog, and yet... If something goes wrong, it's your fault, the customer, always. I'm fairly sure there will be a reply to the review stating as such, again. Doors don't always get locked. Not all the pertinent information is told you at the meet & greet so be hyper vigilant. Thank god for my new dog walker for stepping up when I needed them asap to solve this problem. PROS: Price--they do have the best price in Brooklyn--& I think my dog walker himself was a nice guy when I met him CONS: Management, door can be left unlocked, the meet and greet doesn't do much because you're not always told all pertinent information, and there was an occasion when my dog wasn't walked and apparently that was my fault. Not a fan of their email customer service either, as it always seems to be my fault and not theirs. Overall rude. read more

We have had such a fantastic experience with Housebroken, especially Brooke who has had my pups over to her place numerous times. Brooke and her dog have been kind and patient with my little guys who can be neurotic and anxious around other dogs. I was amazed to see all 3 of them together in the photos she texted me while my husband and I were away. She has been able to take them on short notice, and was hugely helpful when we got stuck out of town due to a snowstorm, keeping them 2 extra days. They always come back to us happy and mellow. I moved to Crown Heights with my newly-rescued pit mix, Sara, in January 2012, and recently moved away from the neighborhood. While living in the neighborhood, Sara and I had a great experience with HouseBroken and with Vivian, the owner. Sara loved all her walkers, who left nice notes about her daily stroll, and topped up her water bowl. I had a surprise foster pup for a week in 2013 (she was wandering Eastern Parkway without a collar, and I couldn't let her go on like that -- she was eventually accepted to an awesome no-kill shelter and has long since been adopted into her forever home!) and HouseBroken was great about making sure she got her midday relief, too. They are really into their pet clients! :) Any minor issues/questions I had were resolved promptly and to my satisfaction. Billing was convenient via their online portal. If I come back to central Brooklyn, I will absolutely reconnect with HouseBroken, and in the meantime I can recommend their service to all of you. read more

The individual walkers have been fabulous and flexible (shout out to Kathryn for leaving such thoughtful notes), and scheduling has always been a breeze. Wonderful! They took excellent care of our 2 cats while we were away for the holiday. They administered medication to one without issue (although my cats are twins and hard to tell apart). And when we got home, we found sweet notes from each day we were gone, letting us know how the boys did. This is the first Yelp review I've ever written, but quality (affordable!) pet care is so difficult to find in NYC that I thought it was worth submitting. I've been using HouseBroken for about 8 months now, and they have taken such great care of my furry kiddos! I have 3 rescue dogs, a 90 lb Lab mix, a 55 lb Pit mix, and a 15 lb Dachshund mix. They are sweet, silly, and *very* rambunctious, especially when someone new comes over to walk them during the day. Despite their very high energy levels and my Lab's tendency to fling himself (joyously) at anyone and everyone who comes through our door, they've provided great service and have always brought my pups home safe, happy, and successfully worn out. My dogs are my family and my best friends, and I don't take finding care providers for them lightly. HouseBroken took the time to learn about their individual quirks and quibbles and to add my kitty to their online database for occasions when he's needed drop-in care. Their notes after walks are always informative and reassuring, and I can leave for my longest, busiest days knowing that I don't need to worry about their wellbeing (or whether they're going to start tearing things up out of boredom). The online platform is great for booking occasional/inconsistently scheduled walks, which are what I need given my highly variable schedule, and their rates are absolutely THE BEST in the area. Before choosing HouseBroken, I pored through Yelp reviews, talked to independent walkers in the area, and priced every walker/service that looked reliable/trustworthy enough to consider. They have the best prices in Brooklyn, especially if you have multiple dogs! In regard to a couple of the details listed in the few negative reviews, I feel that the 2-hour windows offered when booking walks are quite reasonable given their pricing, and they've never once missed a walk with my pups, even when it's been pouring rain. I'll update this if things ever change, but I've had numerous negative experiences with pet care in the past, and HouseBroken is one of the few services that I really feel comfortable leaving my dogs with. read more

We started using Housebroken for our dachshund puppy, Zelda, before she was old enough to go on walks! We set up puppy visits until she was old enough, and then moved on to solo and small group walks. Zelda has always has some anxiety issues walking outside and being around other dogs, and the team at Housebroken have always been very mindful and gentle with her.
