One of the best sandwiches I've had in a while. Definitely a must try. I had the Reuben and my wife the turkey sandwich, we also tried the clam chowder, macaroni salad and cream sodas. A very enjoyable experience. read more

I'll admit that I ended up buying lunch at Houndstooth when the line at Skyebird was too long for a salad. I don't know why, but their storefront didn't initially call to me, but holy smokes was I glad that I ended up there! I ordered their special of the day: Roasted Vegetable Sandwich which includes Eggplant, Zuchinni, Squash, Red Onion, Mushrooms, Yellow Tomatoes, & Sun-Dried Tomato Spread pressed on Foccacia Roll. It was delicious! I also grabbed a large container of their curried split pea soup for dinner/second lunch snack (don't judge me!). It was surprising and inventive. I've never spiced a split pea soup with curry, but it was subtle and added some complexity to the soup. Mmmmm! The chef, David, explained that he used to have a restaurant in Atlanta, but had to close when the diner next door went up in flames and took his restaurant with it. I loved how open he was to talking to me while I was waiting on my order (there was someone else working the register). I left off a star because they could work on the look of their storefront. It sucks to say, but they're competing with some super stylish merchants at the market and this would really help then stand out. Otherwise, loved everything! read more

What a delightful lunch spot, located in the fabulous East End Market. I ordered the Chicken Avocado Sandwich, which was perfectly scrumptious. This sandwich was a perfect array of grilled chicken, avocado, roasted roma tomato vinaigrette, Asiago cheese, pressed on Cuban bread. The portion size was so filling that I had left overs for later. The ingredients were super fresh, which makes any sandwich super awesome. My daughter ordered the Tomato Basil Bisque, a vegetarian, gluten free option. She pretty much devoured the soup. A sandwich meal will cost you anywhere between 10.00 to 12.00, a bowl of soup will cost you 5.00. The staff was funny and friendly and definitely made my day a whole lot brighter. The options on the menu were pretty solid. If you want more information go check them out at www.houndstoothsauces.com. Double Yum! read more

Houndstooth Kitchen & Eatery - Chicken Avocado Sandwich and Tomato Basil Soup, Perfect Combo! - Salad Near Me - Maitland, Florida

Came here today for lunch and was a little startled when the man working didn't greet me just stood there and said "what's up." What happened to the days of "How can I help you?" I proceeded with my order of chicken avocado, one of their hot sandwiches. I waited a good 20 mins while sampling their variety of sauces with the pieces of Cuban bread in the basket near the menu board. When I got my food we had to sit outside since we were a large group and there's no seating to accommodate us all. I finally take a good look at my sandwich and realize its chicken deli type slices. Pretty disappointed because at that price point I thought I was getting chunky chicken pieces. I would probably come back only for the white BBQ sauce, from what I sampled it was pretty good. read more

Went to see live music at a business next door. All seats were taken, so we ended up getting an outdoor table at Houndstooth. Never heard of this restaurant but their menu looked good. I ordered the cuban sandwich (without mayo and mustard) and a side ($12.00). The sandwich was large and was loaded with ham and pork. I am not a fan of pickles, but the ones used on the sandwich were excellent. The side I choose was the Greek quinoa salad. It was really good since it had lots if feta cheese and quinoa. There were a few small tables inside and several outside. Great place to eat outside on a beautiful night! read more

I'm sorry but this was very disappointing. I had the Cuban, I've never seen someone slice ham so thin. The pork was mushy and flavorless. It made my stomach turn afterwards. I am not sure if it is because of the pandemic but their pictures are very misleading. I really wanted to support them through this hard time. read more

I had the Chicken Avocado which was packed with flavor and didn't disappoint. Had to wait a good 20-30 minutes fro the sandwich, though and their was no one before me... Still, will be eating here again. The quality of the food and the taste are well worth the wait. read more

This place is sooooo good. I cannot say enough good things about this fresh eatery. The staff are super friendly (dog lovers...a plus) and are very open and inviting. Their food is very flavorful and everything always tastes very fresh. Their menu is delicious across the board, but they also have specials frequently that are very good as well. They do BBQ for specials every now and then and it is very very good, the red bbq sauce is amazing. They have to go sides/soups/salads in the fridge when you enter and they are really great as well. Some of our favorites are the Chicken Salad and Cowboy Caviar. Do yourself a favor and support this great place... you will be happy you did. It is clear to see they care about the food, and that love and effort is really put into it. read more

I've probably walked past this place dozens of times and didn't realize it had an actual menu! Really thought all they sold was sauce. Anyway, I visited the shop before a community yoga lesson at East End and truly enjoyed my experience. I ordered the grilled chicken pesto sandwich, topped with caramelized onions and mozzarella cheese, and the best part, crunchy Cuban bread. The Cuban in me was overjoyed. East End was not busy, in fact, it was quite empty, but the person who helped me told me to go sit outside and she'd bring out the sandwich for me, which was super nice and went beyond my expectations. The sandwich was filling, and service prompt. read more

Love houndstooth! The owner is super sweet, the service is great, and the food is delicious! Favorites are the tomato bisque, Greek salad, and the chicken pesto panini. It's our go to place for days we don't want to cook. read more

Mostly take out place, but they have a couple of tables outside and inside. Fresh, homemade food that does not disappoint!

Great little spot for lunch or a quick dinner. Have outdoor seating but we have always just done the take out. Never been disappointed. The ruban is probably one of the best I've ever had! read more

We enjoyed a bowl of turkey chili & a grilled chicken pesto sandwich with coleslaw & macaroni salad. All were fresh & tasty & everything is made fresh daily. We sat on the front patio & watched people coming & going in the park. This is a great little place to enjoy some good food & fresh air. read more

I'm very picky about tomato soup because of how bland it can be but Houndstooths tomato basil bisque is one of the best I've had. I eat it with the chicken avocado sandwich and it's a delicious combination. Houndstooth is one of my favorite fast lunch options and I promise you won't be disappointed! Pretty much any place you choose at East End will be a win but that soup keeps me coming back every time. read more

Excellent restaurant , everything I have had was great. Don't forget to try the macaroni salad.

This sandwiches shop is inside east end market. When I first step in to the market, it makes me feel like I'm back to bay area. We came here during our vacation, all of us are tired of eating fried food. I'm grateful found this place. Their concepts are using natural and organic ingredients. Friendly service, the food is so good. You must try their salsa (corn, bean, onion...) which we never had before. TACOS is a must Too, Potato salad is also good, they use fresh dill and white bbq sauce. I definitely would come back . Plus price is very reasonable $11 sandwich plus a side read more

Quick and delicious lunch spot. Great for sandwiches. Chicken salad and tomato soup is bomb!

Came across this little place while looking for a quick lunch on a Sunday. It's nestled in a building that is being constructed all around them. The building has a few business open already and more in progress. The service was very friendly and helpful for guiding us in what to choose as first timers. My sister and I both got a half of the lemon thyme turkey sandwich served on sourdough bread and I can honestly say that's the best sourdough bread I've had in awhile! The lemon and thyme combination made a nice touch without overpowering the sandwich and it was delicious. I got a cup of chicken noodle soup that was very flavorful as well and I highly recommend. And my sister got the turkey chili and she said it was delicious as well. Overall a great stop for a quick little lunch! read more

Monica and the staff are always so fun and friendly. Some of my favorite dishes are the tacos (especially the sloppy mo!), the chili (omg), and the meatloaf (special). read more

Totally my favorite place to grab lunch when I'm at East End! The sandwiches are HUGE and I've never had anything here I didn't like...or love. The pimento cheese sandwich, the chicken salad sandwich, the tuna salad sandwich, the Pedro chicken melt, you just can't go wrong. I have yet to try their soups but I've had my eye on the tomato bisque. Thy also sell sides like potato salad and their pimento cheese to go. Prices are decent and what you would expect for a vendor at East End. Don't pass this place up for some lunch! read more

Nestled in the corner at the East End Market, this place is worth seeking out! It was originally the large selection of soups that drew us into this stall, but it was the informative and friendly staff that helped us to discover the true delights of Houndstooth Sauces (and which we are craving at this very minute!): the pimento cheese and toasted pretzel sandwich. Seriously: AWESOME. The combination of the lightly spicy fresh pimento cheese with the warm pretzel sent our taste buds to entirely different place! Pair it with some of their homemade turkey chili and you can ca it a day. Order it to have while you're visiting or take it to go - We did both, having eaten in on Saturday and then stopping by on our road trip home for a little snack for the road - you'll be glad you stopped by Houndstooth Sauces... I know we are! read more

My husband and I stopped here on our way out of town. It was our first time here but won't be our last. My black bean burger was very tasty and my husband thoroughly enjoyed his macaroni salad and hotdog. There inside seating is limited but there is ample seating outside. The couple who owns the shop are very pleasant. Good lunch experience. read more

I took a friend to Houndstooth for lunch. We placed our order, and waited...and waited. When I checked at the counter, the owner curtly said "we're busy" today. 30 more minutes when I checked in again, she realized they'd lost our order. 15 more minutes and I discovered she'd put the order in a take out bag at the counter because it was so late and we needed to get back to work. The order was missing the side salad. Over one hour after we arrived we got our lunch. But the biggest concern I actually had was not the late/lost order, but the lack of an apology, an offer to "make it right" or any kind of service recovery. I like to support local businesses but this experience does not make me want to go back. Good food, terrible customer service. read more

Here is the skinny folks. I am all about supporting local business so it kills me to say that this place gets a hard pass. The biggest reason is that they just aren't friendly. I really really wanted to like this place. They are walking distance, they have smoke wings & sandwiches...should be a slam dunk. However, I have given them a shot 4 times now & every single time I walk in the staff seems like I am bothering them by giving them my business. Today I walked in with what seemed like the entire staff standing in the dining area & not one of them greeted me. When someone finally came to the register he was very dismissive. Ordinarily I might give a pass because it's super bowl Sunday & probably busy, but honestly this has been my experience every time I visit this place. Terrible attitudes aside, the wings & specials I have tried are great, but the sides are bland & desperately need some seasoning. All & all the food isn't good enough for customer service to be so terrible. Do better. read more

Yesterday was my first time eating here, this place is diffidently worth giving a try. The shop owners and a husband and wife duo from Georgia, the wife is one of the kindest restaurant owners I have ever met! I got the Black Bean Burger and it was one of the best I've ever had! The patty on that burger was amazingly large. Any other black bean burger I have had would have be two patties to measure up to this thing! The white BBQ sauce and Pimento cheese (added as a side) made this a complete burger. I can see why this place is popular with their small cult following. Their food pairs extremely well with the local beers at the bar behind them! read more

THE BEST SOUP IN TOWN!!! I love soup. Not many people can make soup well. They can. I HIGHLY recommend it. Tomato basil soup- THE BEST. DELICIOUS. GIVE ME MORE. Turkey ChiIi- Too good, too function. I stopped at East End Market yesterday to pick up lunch for my co-workers and I. They requested specific cuban sandwiches from Houndstooth, so that's where I went. The decor is very beautiful and unique, might I add. When I got there, I was kind of confused because I had never eaten at Houndstooth before. My coworkers had sent me with a list of what they wanted - Cubans, a side, and white barbecue sauce(?) The guy at the counter was pretty helpful. He helped me order our three chicken avocado Cuban sandwiches. They did not have the sides my co-workers wanted, but he suggested a similar one to try and help. I also ordered white barbecue sauce but we never got it. I just left with three sandwiches but that was okay. The sandwiches were great! The chicken was well done, the avocado was fresh, and the Cuban bread was toasted to perfection. I am definitely returning for this sandwich specifically... and to try the white barbecue sauce because I'm still curious about what the hype was all about. read more

Had lunch here today after reviewing Yelp options in the area. I believe they recently opened, although you couldn't tell by the very friendly and efficient service. I saw the Cuban on Yelp and had to try it. It tasted as great as it looked, maybe better. The roll was fantastic, crisp crust and fresh underneath. The pork and ham tasted great. They have a sauce on it that sets it apart from other Cubans. It will be hard not to get the Cuban again next time, but I will try the tacos that looked equally amazing. Their chicken salad was very tasty with their signature white bbq sauce. The only reason I didn't give 5 stars.... For our taste, the onions were overpowering. However, we generally do not eat raw onions. We also had a side of the potato salad that had the white bbq sauce in it. Wow...they should sell containers of that sauce like they do their soups. It had a bit of heat to it that just set it apart. We will be back. read more

I like to run in to East End Market specifically to come to the Houndstooth Sauce Company. I pop in regularly, weekly if possible. I usually purchase a few large containers of soup and chicken salad. All of thesoups I have purchased are excellent as is the chicken salad with white BBQ sauce. We have tried the vegan and turkey chili, the tomato soup, rosemary lentil and carrot ginger soup. All so delicious and with 4 servings per container, very affordable. It's pretty much the best soup you'll ever have for about the price of a can of progresso. We have also eaten lunch here and really enjoyed it. Please consider trying this shop out. I have integrated into my weekly shopping and am enjoying weeknight soup and salad much more than I used to! read more

I like food. I like folks with a sense of humor. So when I say that I adore the approach of the gents at Houndstooth, it's for their balance of quality food and sincere personality. When visiting burgeoning markets like East End, I become a little apprehensive, as if I am not hip or pretentious enough to be a patron. What hooked me was the approachability of the staff, including the lead chef/owner. What sold me was their special of the day: a TBC with BBQ Sauce on a pretzel roll. Anything on a pretzel roll is a coup de grace for me, and my stomach refused to go unheard. My gal pal and I wound up splitting one with a nice chilled cider from Local Roots underneath the picnic tables outside. The sandwich was a great size for sharing, or if one is a bit hungry and feeling rather indulgent. There was no scrimping on the turkey or bacon, but it wasn't drowning in cheese or sauce either. With a lunch special, I'd personally like the offer of a side to be included in the cost (as they had plenty of tasty potato chips to choose from. Also, they had plenty of delicious sounding sauces in their cooler case, but without samples available, I'm a little hesitant to commit to something I may not like. This is partially my own fault for not being bold enough to request a sample, as I am fairly certain that if I asked, I would receive. The staff are personable and friendly. They provide a quality product, and I sincerely look forward to giving them my business in the future. read more

Fantastic and much needed addition to the Maitland food scene. They have lots to offer and it is fresh and tasty. I had the lemon thyme panini and a cup of Tomato "Bliss" Bisque - so so good! Our long awaited visit to the East End Market happened this weekend. What took us so long? After checking out all the shops and tasting many yummy freebies, we settled on Houndstooth. We lingered there as we tasted a variety of sauces, and eyed the variety of soups. When I saw the short rib taco, I was sold. My husband went with the roast beef, Swiss, with horseradish sauce and rosemary. YUM to both. Portions were large, and we took our leftovers home, and had them as part of dinner. Each of us thought our dish was the best. I can tell you that I recently partook of pricey $48 short ribs at a high end place, and the houndstooth short ribs win! hands down. We scored a seat at the Local Roots bar where we enjoyed some beer. I had a cucumber beer of some sort.. It was so very refreshing. We left veery happy and carrying a bag of bread and cookies from Old hearth Bakery. We stopped across the street at P is for Pie, and gathered more desserts! We had what we call a festive staycation day over at East End. We felt like we were in Seattle or Portland, without having to get on a plane! Find the time to check it out read more

This eatery is located in the East End Market area. Nice little shop and I decided to give them a try for lunch. I got the Chicken Salad Sandwich with all fresh made ingredients, it was absolutely awesome. I have not had a chicken salad sandwich to compare in years. I also got a side of the potato salad and it was awesome, bordering on a little too mustardy flavor for me, however, really good. I will be back to try more items. read more

Ive only had their Brisket Taco and their Egg Avo Toast. The brisket taco didn't do anything for me. The meat was too sweet and the tortilla needed to be (more?) Toasted. So this review is more about their Egg Avo Toast. Ive had it about 10 times now and it's HANDS DOWN the best egg avo toast I've ever had. Most Egg Avo toast tastes the same, and thats pretty bland. Usually they put a fried egg on top of avocado toast. At Houndstooth, they make an egg salad but INSTEAD OF MAYO they use AVOCADO. It's ab ingenious idea, and it makes it all go down that much better. Its creamy but also hearty because of the egg mixed into the avocado. And if you're really feeling hungry, get it with cheddar and bacon added. Best breakfast or snack ever. Also their bagek with himade cheese is amzing. read more

This casual, friendly place in the heart of Maitland City Centre is a must try for anyone seeking super fresh, homemade salads, sandwiches and soups with a gourmet twist. Lots of great options to choose from, but worth noting that the owners have kept some excellent anchor recipes on the menu for a handful of years - BBQ brisket, tomato bisque, pimento cheese spread with warm pretzels, just to name a few. In doing so, they have achieved perfection with their core, homemade soups and expertly prepared sandwiches. If I'm in a rush, I can pop in and grab a container of soup along with other homemade side items from their ready to go cooler. If you are a tomato bisque fan, their creamy and tangy recipe will not disappoint. Added bonus, they have vegan options, craft beer, wine and the bread used to prepare sandwiches is fresh from a local, small business bakery. read more
