Came here tonight. Per the name on the receipt, Diana was our server but this review isn't really her fault. She was pretty sweet and nice and apologetic for everything. I don't think she was entirely trained properly because she didn't know the answers to most questions about the menu. She's not in the kitchen and she isn't a mind reader. She should know the answers because someone above her made sure she knew the answers to all questions. For example: my friend is Muslim and cannot eat pork. She asked if a dish was specifically beef and the server responded "most likely". We waited almost 20 minutes just to get water because she had to deal with her previous table of like 4 very elderly women giving her a problem about their discounts and coupons or something. Maybe could have been one more server. Chicken parm was not what I expected (after asking server if it's really thick, who didn't really know the answer, but it turns out it was) so I didn't eat it. Stayed on the bill lol. Spinach dip was spicy???? Good thing we didn't bring the kids who would have ordered it and not been able to eat it. When we walked in a man was waiting for the hostess for 5 mins. We waited an additional 10 with him. 3 other groups of people joined on the waiting. They were getting very frustrated asking us if anyone even came over here once (no). The guy waiting 15 mins made a few jokes about seating and serving himself. When the hostess realized there were people waiting, she quickly had us seated but when we all mentioned the wait, it was kind of brushed off. Our server Nicole in Secaucus, NJ was very attentive, friendly and personable, the manager was weird and indifferent. The quality And portion of the food leaves a Lot to be desired! We ordered 2 different Entrees (Not lunch specials): Fish-and-Chips (More like the size of Sardines) and Barely 4 ounces of Meatloaf number 9 (There were no carrots and barely any mushrooms or gravy!) Not only were All the portions Incredibly Small for $17.99 each, the two sardines (fish) were dry and overcooked with a few wilted string beans and a large tablespoon of very well seasoned coleslaw. This Houlihan's have been around forever. I use to frequent this restaurant all the time when I was in high school to eat the desserts. Stopped in yesterday with my mom to grab some lunch after running some errands. I ordered two classic menu items. A French onion soup and the buffalo chicken sandwich (one of my Houlihan's favorites) both were wonderful. I was very satisfied!!! My mom ordered a crab cake sandwich and it was also very yummy. First time trying here and glad I did! Was celebrating St. Paddy's and once I found this cornbeef cabbage, I knew it was over searching! This was so nice and I hate to say it, but the star of the show were these potatoes! Simply cooked with a nice butter flavor and rustic presentation was all up my alley. Was excited to come here as we used to have one near home, but it closed a long time ago. It was OK. Not great, not horrible either but definitely not as good as I remember. Just went for some drinks and a snack, sat at table in bar section. It wasn't crowded at all. Thursday evening around 10pm. Took awhile for the server to come to us. He seemed like he was bothered to have to serve us. I ordered the hot spinach dip with tortilla chips. Dip was yummy but the chips I got were bottom of the bag broken fragments and not nearly enough to eat all the dip. Had to ask for more, and got more of the same. We will be back someday. We stay at these Secaucus area hotels a couple times a year. Maybe next time we will have a meal and see. read more

I should have turned around. As soon as I walked in- FUNKY SMELL! Maybe it was wet carpet... not sure but either way it had a funky to it. I sat at the bar, ordered a drink and a meal. I'm always wary of going to chain restaurants and this proved me right. We went to Houlihan's to outdoor dine during COVID. I walked inside and there was a manager and a hostess. He said 40 minutes for a table and I asked if it was a true wait time or overestimating. He brushed it off and said it's probably over it's just an estimate. This was at 4:45 on a Thursday night. That's fine! I ran to the car to get something and grabbed starbucks which took about 15 minutes. I came back and saw many empty tables so I inquired within. I asked if my name was called and the manager replied very hostile and said, "yeah and you weren't here, take whatever table is open outside." As a manager he showed a terrible display of customer service. We sat there without menus for about 15 minutes. After we ordered it took 30 minutes just to get our spinach dip out. For a food establishment to have this happen twice in a short amount of time makes me question a lot of things here. The place isn't very clean. My server was nice. This chain restaurant is connected to other restaurants and stores. It is within a place that consists of various parking spaces. I parked directly in front of the movie theaters where all I needed to do was cross the street to enter. Past the first set of doors on the right side you will find the daily special. Today's daily specials stated chicken noodle soup and when I requested it I was told it was not chicken noodle it was chicken tortilla soup. Regardless, I still ordered the soup special and did not regret it. Each spoonful finished with a lightly spicy kick. My entree was a grilled chicken wrap and chicken fingers for my daughter. The only downfall was the taste of my wrap. It didn't have your typical fresh taste. It was a bit on the stale side. My daughter's kid's meal came with a big size orange juice. Thanks! For the first time I didn't have to order her another cup. Our waiter deserved two thumbs up! He was extremely attentive to all his tables. He remembered all our orders and checked up on us just enough that it wasn't burdening us. The bill was about $20. Pricing was well worth it. Haven't been or seen a Houlihans in over 10 yrs. I was excited to order appetizers and drinks. Service was great, atmosphere was relaxing with music in the background and folks outside on the deck socializing. Felt like old times. Unfortunately, I returned one Long Island ice tea, requested it stronger...who does that with a Long Island. I also returned the spinach dip. They were very accommodating about the returns. I kept giving this place a try but after repeated disappointment, I'm all the way done. I literally order the same thing all the time, the firecracker cauliflower. I ask for extra sauce. The first two times I've ordered, they were perfect. The right amount of sauce, the right amount of "CRISP", it was really good. so I ordered another like a month later, same result. After that, it was never the same. I ordered a few months later and they gave me the extra sauce on the side, inside a small container instead of pouring it on the cauliflower like the original, the sauce was cold, as if they pulled it out of the freezer and stuffed it inside my container of food. I thought maybe it was a fluke so a few weeks went by and I ordered the same thing again, same result. My dumb ass thought that somehow It would go back to the original order so guess what?, I ordered it like 4 more times, consecutively lol, To no avail! My girlfriend and I came to eat here after checking in to the Residence Inn next door. SERVICE: Our waiter was pretty attentive throughout our visit. I only had to flag him down once to get some waters after we finished our drinks. He also acknowledged the YELP special you get when you check in. We were unable to combine that special with the 15% off we get as hotel guests which was ok. FOOD: We has the Asian Thai Wings which were SOOOO GOOD! We didn't want to finish it all so we saved some for later which was very difficult. I ordered a Caesar salad which was ok, nothing really special. The chicken was cooked well. My girlfriend ordered steak fajitas which were ok also. The steak was a little bland and also they didn't give a lot of guacamole on the side. Overall we enjoyed the wings the most. Came here after graduation with 13 people. Made a reservation two days before with no problem. Then the day of we were done earlier than I thought and had to change the reservation time earlier and that was no problem as well. Gave this place another chance and unfortunately my ratings are actually going down. I ordered the same avocado chicken rolls and as u can see in the pics they we're over fried and cold. I went with my family and we ordered appetizers which came out with our dinner and my husband's shrimp Alfredo got to him cold, my daughter's pizza was Also cold and my Sons chicken fingers were too hard. They sent everythng back to be reheated. When we got the first bill they charged their meals Double...so the waiter went back and it was fixed. I was in a bit of mood, so I decided to drink before my movie. Grabbed a seat at the bar, and picked up the menu. They actually have a pretty decent selection of beer on tap. I picked up a Sam Adams Rebel IPA. My yelp check-in gave me a free small plate too, so I got some disco fries. They were OK. I told my bartenders I was looking to get drunk, but it would be difficult because of my extremely high tolerance to alcohol. We talked about the strength and flavors of various drinks. In the end, my four bartenders did a good job in getting me drunk before the movie. I had fun with them. And it was surprisingly cheap considering how much I drank. Went last night 11/10. Very disappointing. My meal, a simple burger, was delayed over 10 minutes while my friends got theirs. Ended up eating by myself. Asked for ice 2x for my iced tea, never got it. Got up to get it myself at the bar. Manager seemed like a newbie, no real apology or excuse for the delay. Won't be going back there for a long time.
