I love this place for their soups! In particular the Sukiyaki. So delicious. Their bowls of soups are HUGE and tasty. Definitely authentic and if you get anything spicy, IT WILL BE SPICY. Their peppers are legit! Service is good, when it's busy it can get pretty slow. But that's fine because the food makes up for it! I'm gonna miss this place when I graduate! read more

Very good Thai food. The veggies were so fresh they still had a bit of crunch to them. I ordered level 2 spice on my Panang, next time I will get a 1. Hubs ordered a level 7 spice on his pad Thai. Next time he will order a five. The restaurant is very kid friendly. They made our 1 year old steamed carrots. Level 0 spice! She was very happy to eat carrots and sticky rice with the food we brought her. They offer beer and wine. I had a Thai iced tea. They have lots of condiments at the table, some homemade! Love their red duck curry however each and every time we've been here their larb has been unacceptable! It's raw larb but it ain't freshly grounded or minced. It's grounded then frozen and then defrosted for when someone orders. That is so nasty and I can't not believe they would feed something like that to their costumer! The meat was all grey and was the consistency of a paste! So gross! Will not be coming here ever again. Hands down probably the best asian food in Merced. Chowmein and Fried Rice are extremely flavor. Pho is made the way its supposed to be made. I mean they actually take the time to boil the bones down and serve tendon/tripe too. If you get a chance try out Houa Khong 1 (or we like to call blue House) on 13th street. I dont know what it is about it, maybe its the old ladies who work there that put love into it, but their Pho is even better than Houa Khong 2! read more

My friend and i consider ourselves to understand spicy ness and it's different levels. We come from an asian background and i'd say our tolerance is pretty moderate to high when we arrived to pick up our penang thai curry we confirmed with the employee that gettin a 6 level of hotness should be tolerable (in the sense that we shouldn't be drinking more water than curry- balance is key) HOWEVER when we came back home and took one bite out of the curry, our senses exploded, our tongues lost their tastebuds, our lips numbed, we started sweating as we would after a 10 mile run . we had lost all matter of functioning we called and went back to have them fix it. and we were told that their spice levels run rather high. and people typically get a 1-2 level of spiceness because that equates to a 5-6. they mixed coconut milk into our old spice induced curry instead of giving us a new one when we were told we would be given a new one over the phone. (we stood at an angle and looked as they fixed it) needless to say we wouldn't return here for their thai food. and if u are reading huong kong 2, don't feel bad about the 1 star review. it equates to your "5". read more

I am in love with this place. My boyfriend and I used to go so much they knew our order... felt kinda embarrassed, but the food is worth the money. Now we only go when he is in town. I have been here a couple of times with my coworkers. I like the food here and they have a good lunch menu. I usually like to get the pad thai or the curry. The customer service is okay, but they do serve your food pretty quickly. The last time I asked them for medium spicy and the food was so hot, I could barely eat it. This was my second time eating here and I have to say it is one of the better Thai restaurants here in Merced. My girlfriend and I ordered spring rolls, chicken satay, chicken phat thai, and the phat kimow. We came at night and they unfortunately ran out of the large phat kimow noodles, so they had to use the phat Thai noodles instead. My only concern was that the ground beef in the spring rolls was too salty. It was my first time ordering the spring rolls so I will have to come again to see whether or not the spring rolls are always salty. Other than that, I recommend trying this restaurant. read more
