I decided to check…read moreout Trufit because it was just opening their Detroit location, which happens to be about 1/4 mile away from my office. It certainly doesn't get much more convenient than that. There are several different classes to choose from. TruX has a lot of the same moves and aspects of CrossFit but without the Olympic lifting. Trustrength has less cardio, and is (obviously) more focused on strength. SWEAT is predominantly cardio. And Glow Boxing is precisely what it sounds like - a cardio boxing class under party lights. There is even yogabon Saturday morning. The folks are nice the coaches generally good. You can register and schedule classes with the mind body app, which is hella convenient. It even syncs with my calendar. My main beef is that, only being open a few months, the schedule changes, generally without notice. I have scheduled classes at specific times, only to look at my calendar a few days later and discover that the time on the class was changed to a time I never signed up for. Easily fixable, but annoying. Hopefully random scheduling changes will happen less and less often as the Detroit location becomes more established.

They had plenty of equipment for a large class (about 20) and Nina (the coach) did an excellent job with breaking down the work out of the day. As I made my way to the front desk to pay the $15 day pass (not a bad price for everything they offer), I noticed a plaque that said "phone down, eyes up" so I knew I picked the right gym. As I became familiar with the equipment and layout, I noticed that everyone there was serious into fitness, but in a good, non-intimidating way. As a 41 yr old who is no longer a powerlifter, but lifts for overall conditioning, I felt right at home. They had everything I could have asked for. Their turf area is huge and filled with all sorts of HIIT/crossfit style items. On top of all of this, the music was so good, I didn't have to put by headphones on. Overall, its a serious gym, but one that welcomes anyone no matter where they're at on their fitness journey. I wish I still lived in Saginaw so I could make this my home gym.

Alright alright alright. I have to admit I was a total skeptic of coming to Planet Fitness based of…read moreprevious experiences at other locations. Yes, PF costs less and maybe gets a bad rep because they offer pizza Monday's and tootsie rolls at the counter. But I have to say. I was THOROUGHLY impressed with the Lapeer location and what they have to offer. Walking in, it's a standard size PF, and everyone at the front desk is very welcoming. It's the standard layout with cardio, weights, machines, etc. But what makes this place great? The machines are pretty new and they have QR codes you can scan to see how to use the machines. The treadmills are really nice, weights are nice, ab/stretching room, huge bathroom/locker rooms with nice shower areas and everything was really clean. I watched members make sure they wiped machines down when they were done. I had no idea they offered classes. Today I did the PF 360 strength class and trainer Mike is awesome! There's a variety of 30 min. classes that are easy to sign up on using the PF app. You use your phone to check-in, lots of great app features and honestly just blown away by how much PF has stepped up its services. Great gym, awesome staff, and glad I came back!
