The business lacks personal accountability. Rather than owning a problem, they invested in time to slither away from the problem.

There's a reason every person here wrote a 5 star review…read more I came to EDX on the recommendation of two friends to talk to Angelo about individual training. I was coming off a knee injury, had a handful of other aches and pains, and felt like my training (which I had been doing consistently for years), had started to plateau. Working with Angelo has been a game changer, and the depth of his fitness and coaching knowledge is absurd. Simply put, I've made measurable, significant gains in every area of my fitness. While I don't work directly with the other coaches or attend the classes (I use the open gym for the individual training plan Angelo writes for me) everyone on staff is friendly, helpful, and most importantly incredibly knowledgeable. There's no attitude here, just the expectation that you'll show up and work hard. Additionally - I've had multiple sessions with Liliana at EDX Bodyworks (the attached sports therapy clinic) - and she's a wizard, it's a great resource to have on hand for when tweaks and injuries pop up. I've been a member of probably 6 or 7 gyms, this is the best one yet, my membership will end when Angelo and Liliana decide to retire. No matter your fitness level, if you're serious about getting in shape do yourself a favor and give the EDX community a shot.

So here's my story and why DNR is by far the most professional, highly-trained and educated gym for…read moreanyone and everyone. I know it might be long but Crossfit DNR is much more than just a 5 star review. I didn't play any sports as a kid, and cheated in gym class because I hated working out. I went to college and undoubtedly gained 50lbs, but started going to the rec regularly. I graduated college and did the 24 hour/Raintree Athletic gym ordeal and attempted to stay consistent in my workouts but continued gaining weight. I always heard about Crossfit but I thought it was for really fit, athletic people who lived and breathed gym life. About two years ago, and at my heaviest - I joined a different Crossfit gym after much encouragement. It was decent - the coaches were nice, but there was something off. I always felt tense, because the other woman/girls were too competitive and judgy and I was just a beginner who knew nothing at all about anything. The workouts were fine but I couldn't go to a gym where I was trying to improve myself but leaving feeling worse off every time. So I tried every single Crossfit gym in the city limits of Fort Collins. There were some good gyms, some bigger than others, but it wasn't until I picked Crossfit DNR that everything I knew about Crossfit changed. There are two brothers that own and run the gym and they are the most intelligible, dedicated, passionate, respectful and such organized individuals that I was sold. The equipment was treated well, the members of the gym were kind, they had good lighting/clean bathrooms/clean gym and were kind to every single person who walked in their door. In my time there, I lost 30 lbs, gained so much strength and built confidence in myself that I had no idea existed. The brothers, Kody and Kyle are the coolest guys - they are so passionate and skilled at what they do, they emphasize treating your body well, stretching and mobility as well as proper form which was so important to me. They took so much time out of every class to work with me one on one because I suck at Crossfit - but they never gave up on me. I worked with them for a short time for personal training, and they took me reaching my goals more seriously than I thought possible. I was also mind blown by how phenomenal the female coaches were - they are by far the coolest, most humble women I had ever met in my life. Specifically, coach Marie is one of the biggest reasons I continued to push myself in Crossfit. She was encouraging, motivating and so humble that was never a moment in my mind that I felt competition with her - and she's the strongest, best athlete I have ever met. She, as a woman, could have used her strength and skill to intimidate other woman, but instead she uses it to teach, relate, and encourage others - she has the kindest heart! I am writing this all in a review, because I use to be the girl who would sit at home on Instagram eating chips and queso praying for a body that I didn't want to work for and judging Crossfit for things that were all lies. I was and still am a beginner, but joining Crossfit DNR was by far the best decision I have ever made. I wasn't even super close with anyone at the gym as I kept to myself most of the time, but just being there felt like family. Crossfit DNR is truly one in a million - you have trained coaches who will take an overweight/not athletic person and treat them like an athlete. They will take an athlete and make them a professional. They will help you reach your goals, big or small, physical or mental. They will encourage you, they provide resources to maintain proper nutrition, if you so choose to hang out outside of the gym they have built a great community to be involved in, and they have created an environment where anyone, of all levels in life, can be in the same room together struggling through the same workout. If you are unsure about Crossfit, just drop in and do one class. If you are unsure about what gym in Fort Collins, take my word that you will be thankful that you joined DNR. There is truly no better gym out there.

When it's time to vote for best CF gym in Foco, they will hound you about it. They will call you out in class to make sure you have voted. One time I had 2 lacrosse balls that were taped together to roll out my back. The owner was walking by and had a single lacrosse ball. I asked him if I could toss mine and trade him. He asked me "why did you move the ball like that?" mimicking a blow job motion with his hands. I was nervous to ask questions in front of the class because the owner will make fun of you, or in his words it's just "bantering". I asked if there was a way to modify an exercise so it didn't hurt my back. His reaction made me feel stupid and ashamed. His response "well then don't hurt your back". The whole class laughed and then was like "ya Rindi don't mess up". He never helped me. Another member was called "bitch" multiple times by one of the coaches. The words pussy, dick, balls, bitch are used many times by some coaches and one of the owners. I did personal training with him. You never knew what kind of mood you were gonna get with him. I shared with him pictures from one of the gym gatherings and he thought it would be funny to delete me out of the picture. He also did this to a different member of the gym. He laughed about it and showed everyone. He would make racists jokes and try to get others to also laugh along. He always had to win at conversations and would legit argue with you that you're wrong and look it up, even if the facts showed he was wrong. One time I was up late with our sick kiddo and had a 7:30am session and said how tired I was, to which he made a snarky remark that these are the consequences to my actions of choosing to have a child. I can recall multiple others who also had bad experiences. Young girls and high school teams workout at this gym. You would get scolded at if you put equipment back in the wrong place or made a mess. He threatened multiple times to take away the chalk buckets. One day I asked if I could open up the door for some air as we were all over heating. The coach told me how he is going to get yelled at by the owner. There are no windows or working fans. The owner would always complain to everyone about the high electric bill. Even when the owner wasn't physically there, people would comment how he is probably still watching us on the cameras in the gym. He would tell me how he doesn't even like CF for multiple reasons. I confronted the owner about how I was feeling. The owner was giving me a hard time saying how I was in such a bad mood. I told him that he makes me feel uncomfortable and unsupported in the gym. He got defensive at first and then asked me to step outside to talk. I felt threatened and said I would prefer to stay in the gym to talk. He stood outside and kept telling me to come outside to talk. I stayed where I felt safe inside the gym with others present. He took it very well in the moment. At one point he was in tears apologizing. He said he values us at the gym and he loves my son. He said he will do better. He said that the only reason he banters with me and gives me such a hard time is because he likes me and I'm in his bubble. The conversation left on good terms. A couple days later I get an email saying I've been suspended indefinitely with working with him for personal training to protect himself and the coaches. He said to not directly contact him again. I requested a refund for my membership. I paid for a year in advance. I got a discounted rate since I paid for a year in advance and so I told him he can just refund me back at the non-discounted rate. He said a members decision not to utilize the membership does not constitute grounds for a refund. I'm choosing not to go because I was consistently harassed. This gym has left me burnt out, anxious, gaslit and over $800 short.

I've been a member of Roots since moving to Boulder in 2012. In my biased opinion (and isn't that…read morewhat Yelp is all about?), Roots is the best CrossFit gym in all of Boulder ... and the country, far as I've seen - and I've dropped into my fair share. Let me explain: * The size of the gym is spacious, not cramped, and always clean and organized. Total win. * There's a mindful flow to class structure with a group warm-up and WOD intro that is guided - it's never a free-for-all. And the class waits to break their sh*t down until everyone is finished WODing. * The coaches are the best, most skilled IMO. They care about form and foundational movements and technique. They keep class sizes small so you get the attention you need, whether you want to admit it or not, to get better and, more importantly, move safely. * They have four dedicated Oly platforms, where is where I now spend the majority of my time. I love that. I got my own space to work on my Oly lifts or pull out a rack to back/front squat, without having to fight for space, barbells, or plates. * They have ample Open Shop time that I utilize for shizzle. No other gym in/around town is going to let you treat their shop like your own personal gym, but Roots does with near-daily Open Shop times that let you come in and do your own thing, catch up on a WOD you might've missed, or work on technique and gymnastics. * There's always a coach onsite. If you need a spot, some advice, or general pep talk, you don't have to look far to get the support you need as an athlete. I love that. Sometimes, you may even get advice from a coach without asking - that's how much they care. Okay, here comes the WARNING: If you join Roots - or even try it for a few days and classes, be ready to FEEL SPOILED. To feel like no other gym will ever meet your expectations, because that's exactly what will happen. Roots is the best, worth every cent, and very accomodating for all athletes of all ages (they have a kids program and a seniors program), as well as community-minded and welcoming. To be honest, when I moved to Boulder without knowing ANYONE, I got through that first awkward couple of years (you know, trying to meet friends and trying to feel at home) because of Roots. I started in their Women's Only program and made fast friends with the ladies, before I self-graduated myself into the standard track after doing the 2014 Open. If you're a member of Roots, I think you can agree with me - you feel like you're part of something special, something important, something worth preserving at all costs. It's not the cult-mindset (ha, like that even exists in CrossFit); it's the Roots Family outlook. When you're in, you're in.

This week at CrossFit roots after participating in a multi-day gymnastics seminar coached by Shane my wife was invited by her classmates to participate in the daily wod. When she attempted to walk into the group coach Shane asked her "what are you doing". My wife made her wishes known and was coolly informed she is not a member of that box and may not participate. Even when another athlete offered immediately to invite my wife as her guest coach Shane remained adamant that joining the wod was for some reason against the rules. This is a disappointing experience to have at such a well-established box. CrossFit Roots is known to be the home of several well-known CrossFit athletes, good coaching and unfortunately also a somewhat callous management. If you are looking to join a box in Boulder I cannot recommend CrossFit roots.

Manic Training Fort Collins is now my new home 3 to four days a week. I drive from Windsor for 20 min. To attend the class, I am so hooked now I'll probably drive 60 miles. The owner/coach Craig is top-notch. The gym is very welcoming and extremely clean, and the numbers are all very supportive, kind, and helpful. I am 56, and I am in the best shape I've been in years. I can do things that I couldn't imagine doing five years ago. Attending this class helps me enjoy my weekend activities without pain and injury. Craig (the owner) openly discouraged me from joining the gym after he embarrassed himself with his comments directed at me. I originally gave him the benefit of the doubt, and continued to come to the workouts. Unfortunately, he continued to be aggressively rude and condescending. Another trainer I spoke with, as well as some members, made excuses for his unprofessionalism, chalking it up to his personality. I found this to be unacceptable, and discouraging seeing as you can't attend this gym without dealing with Craig. So, for those who value integrity and decency, you won't find it at Manic Training.
