Hotel Mai is a quaint boutique hotel near the convention center. I booked it at for a conference and it was much cheaper than the main venue and it fit my needs well. The neighborhood is a typical downtown area and can be seedy but the hotel itself is secure with the main entrance by key card only at night and the elevators also require your key card to be operational. My room, a single king, was clean and in good shape. There is a large TV, desk area, adequate closet, and mini-fridge with Keurig machine in the room. The iron is of high quality and perfect for pressing my clothes for my meetings. The bathroom is very nice with a Toto Washlet that are common in Japan. The room's thermostat, however, is in Centigrade so do brush up on your metric system! My only real criticism was that the room safe did not open all the way as the closet door blocked its full opening. The top floor has a nice sitting area to relax and there is a quaint workout room and pool area. There is also a sauna which I did not use. Upon checking out, I had a nice conversation with Yogi, the owner, who told me a little about the place and how it was named. Overall, my stay at the Hotel Mai was a wonderful one and I would certainly go back the next time I need to stay in Long Beach! read more

Bed bugs. Cockroaches. Nuff said. After I reached over to grab a glass of water in the middle of the night and a bed bug crawled up my arm and hopped into bed I screamed and jumped out of bed tore the covers off tried to take pictures of the freaking bed bug followed it what climbed under the mattress was mortified had to move rooms in the middle of the night. The best girl wanted to check out the room and while in the room we noticed a bug by the AC on the floor and I said what is that and she said oh that's just a cockroach. Oh just a cockroach and I just had a bed bug crawling up my arm what in the world. She took a picture of it to report to somebody. This was fairly nice looking hotel it definitely needed paint and touch ups from maintenance. The shower floors were stained and the grout was non-existent and cracks or showing through in room 410. While you sit on the bidet you can notice a lot of water damage under the sink that the maintenance did a horrible job of fixing. There is a tile missing and a warped wall. None of that really bothered me. The bug crawling up my arm in the middle of the night and then having to switch rooms to the room directly above room 510 I could not sleep at all thinking they were climbing through the vents I wouldn't even unpack my suitcases because I didn't want to bring any bed bugs home once I got home I wouldn't even put the suitcases in my place I left them out in my yard for a while to make sure that the bed bugs could crawl out somewhere in the yard. I read online how to wash your clothing mainly you have to kill them in the dryer on a high heat for 20 minutes which I did to all of my belongings so that was the worst money ever spent and they have not responded to my request for compensation and they certainly didn't offer it. I definitely have PTSD and I didn't get a good night's sleep because all I could think of her bugs crawling all over me, it's disgusting read more

Pros: - Conveniently walking distance to the convention center - Has a gym, dry steam room AND sauna. On top of that you have eucalyptus scented cold towels, pool towels and refrigerated water bottles to elevate your experience. Definitely made use of these during my stay. - Bathroom includes a nice bidet with heated seats. Cons: - Several guests kept trying to connect their device to their smart TV but ended up connecting to my room's TV. This heavily disrupted my night as the TV kept turning on while the guests were trying to connect. I barely got any sleep during one of my nights there because the TV kept turning on from their connection issues passed midnight. - Parking in the open lot is extra $$ if you don't get lucky with one of their garage spots. We checked in around 11p.m. on a Friday. The front doors were locked for security but staff let us in right away. Parking was convenient. There is a small garage and a lot next to the hotel for $20 a night. We stayed in a two-queen room with a balcony. It smelled and looked very clean. The hotel was really quiet overall. Rooms facing the street might get a bit more noise, but nothing too bad. The room was very spacious with a huge bathroom (seriously could fit 10+ people), a hallway, closet, seating area with a couch and TV, and the beds. Very comfortable setup. Note that room service is only on request, not daily by default. The hotel has a nice rooftop seating area plus a spa, pool, sauna, and steam room. Great location too walking distance to stores, restaurants, the aquarium, the beach, and the theater. read more

Zero Flexibility and Poor Customer Service for Booking Errors I was incredibly excited to stay at Hotel Mai, but my experience with their customer service has been a nightmare before I even arrived. During the online booking process, a system glitch altered my intended travel dates. I noticed the error on the confirmation and called the front desk literally minutes later. ​Instead of easily adjusting the dates for an honest mistake, the staff stonewalled me. They told me they could not change the dates, could not offer a room upgrade, and absolutely refused a refund so I could rebook correctly. They essentially took my money and hid behind their 'strict non-refundable policy,' even though the error was immediate and I was just trying to fix the dates for myself, my son. WARNINGS If you book here, pray the website doesn't glitch, because management will absolutely refuse to help you or show any basic hospitality. I am currently forced to dispute this charge with my credit card company because the hotel refuses to act reasonably. read more

We had a very pleasant experience here at Hotel Mai. It's very clean; as soon as we got into our room - before we put our stuff down I did the bed bug check. It seems they've got bedbug resistant mattresses- there's no cording that goes around the perimeter of the mattress, bedbugs love to hide there. The lobby, hallways and everything else was very clean too. The employees were very helpful and courteous. We forgot toothbrushes and they provided them to us quickly. Do not stay at this hotel. My flight arrived in the morning, so I left my suitcase and backpack with the front desk staff around 11am. When I got back to the hotel around 6:30pm and retrieved my bags and went to my room, the minute I lifted my backpack I knew it was lighter and my iPad Pro which was in a case was gone. I went back down to the front desk, told him what was missing and asked to speak with a manager. He gave me a card and told me to send an email. I sent several emails -- no replies. It wasn't until I called police non emergency to file a report that I finally heard from someone from the hotel at almost 11pm, saying "Your bag was in plain sight for the camera majority of the time. The time that it wasn't, there is no one leaving the back room area with anything that can be as large as an iPad." They are supposed to send the video footage to the police. Unfortunately the battery was dead so FindMy isn't working, but I did set it as stolen. What is/was the most concerning is that not one person apologized or appeared concerned. I didn't use the sauna or steam room which was the main reason I booked here, because I didn't want anything else to get stolen which sucked. The kicker is that I almost brought my backpack with me because I had a gut pang leaving it, but unfortunately didn't listen to my gut as I've never had something stolen from my bag from a hotel like this before and travel often. And the reviews about the noise and screaming people are no joke! I regularly stay downtown in Long Beach so know there will be city noise, but this place is next level. Just avoid at all costs, and if you do stay and have anything stolen, definitely file a police report so it's taken seriously. I hope the hotel owner takes a hard look at management because this was the worst customer service experience I've ever had at a hotel. read more

It was my first time back to LB after 12 years. I arrived from MA. I picked this hotel bc it was very reasonably priced for all its amenities. It is downtown, within walking distance to everything! There's a pool, hot tub, sauna, and steam room. My favorite were the eucalyptus infused cold wash clothes outside of the fitness center. They smelled great and were refreshing... I felt like it was a mini spa. The rooms were very nice, and clean. I loved how quiet my floor was. At the front desk/reception area everyone was so kind, helpful and very welcoming! Stayed here recently to enjoy some of the Christmas bars and decor in the area. The service was top notch from the get go! Our check in with Maria was friendly and accommodating. We got a balcony room which was huge, clean and that bidet...wow!! From our room, we could see the Convention Center which was beautifully decorated. Yogi gave us a tour of the hotel which has an indoor pool and sauna. Agreed with the other reviewers that it is noisy from the Tram which is right outdoors. A suggestion would be to get one of those ambient noise machines for the rooms! That would totally help! Check out was easy and Ruby was kind enough to let us stay parked while we enjoyed breakfast nearby. Between the service and immaculate room, I would totally visit again. read more

Hotel Mai is a wonderful hotel. I stumbled on this gem when looking for a hotel to stay in while I was in Long Beach for a business meeting. It is quaint, located in a great location downtown, and the staff were very friendly. The highlight of this hotel wasn't the indoor pool and Jacuzzi, the intimate gym, the steam and sauna rooms, or the huge TV on the wall in my room. The real star of this hotel was the heated bidet. Started off on the wrong foot but the hotel was quick to make it right. Service was great, rooms were nice and clean, and the toilets have heated bidets. Very central and easy to walk the city from this location. Deduct a star if you don't like the noise of downtown and the monorail that runs in front of it. I didn't see the review about the homeless and thats really important. 1st of all, know that the main side street is no traffic and only buses & Metro. I can say that they do keep it clean. They pressure washed it 1 of the mornings we were there. It is noisy but i sleep w/ a noise machine so that takes care of that. As far as the street being transportation that apparently invites the homeless. Theres a very angry man that walks around yelling. And a woman that has a long top & surprisingly no bottoms. She tends to drop things & bend over. OMG!!! There's others too. Just around the corner is a lil park, apts, food & you feel like you're in another world. As far as the hotel, it was clean. Staff was nice. My granddaughter loved the pool & jacuzzi. The beds were comfortable, and the balcony overlooked the bus street and we had the privilege of seeing a large kitchen knife on top of the bus bench awning. Good times. LOL We visited the Aquarium of the Pacific & took a slightly sad Harbor Cruise. All together our stay was colorful & fun. read more

I recently stayed at Hotel Mai on the night of 7/26 in room 215. The 2 stars are for the housekeeper we encountered and the female front desk employee. Both had great customer service and were very genuine/pleasant to interact with. It's a minimalistic hotel which is cool, they have a small parking garage that can house around 8 cars and a lot off to the side. The restroom door in my room (room 215) was broken. I had to push the door with my shoulder to get out of there- even took a running start. The maintenance guy came up and worked on the door but it still stuck so we weren't able to close the bathroom door for the duration of the stay. At no point did a replacement room get offered, which was a bit off putting. There are trains and buses that operate all day and late at night. There was never a moment of silence/peace. That's mainly because as soon as the trains/buses stopped operating, some homeless people started fighting all night- a group of them were camped out right by the hotel. Obviously not the hotel's fault but I would recommend that anyone considering staying at this hotel is well aware of the location. Perfect if you'll be using public transportation and are a heavy sleeper, not so perfect if you were looking to get some rest at the end of the day. Overall, there are better options in the area, around the same price if not cheaper. read more

I've passed this place up a few times and thought, "what an odd place for a hotel." It's not very big but certainly noticeable. After looking at different hotels on various websites, I settled on Hotel Mai. Let me tell you, this gem is cozier and cleaner than most of the hotels I've stayed at in Vegas! Not to mention they have Toto toilets in the rooms! I want to give a s/o to Jenil !! This place is a gem! Reasonably priced, great ammenities (the indoor pool is sweet!) and best of all, THE TV LETS YOU CAST TO IT! Omg, why don't more hotels let you do that!? Smh. The bidet toilets are a nice touch. Plenty of Body wash, shampoo, and conditioner in the shower. The bed was great (although I'm not sure it was a King as advertised. Felt queen sized, but I'm no expert). Nice n comfy tho! Nice that a room less than $200 / night on 4th of July weekend came with a fridge and safe. To top it all, it's got more outlets that even I could use and I travel with a lot of tech (iPad, professional camera, GoPro, phone, headphones, +). USB and outlets. Check-in was nice n easy. They do need to make sure that they check if you have already paid before they check you in tho. They almost tried to charge me again until I asked how much they were charging and noticed I was about to pay for the room and not just the security deposit. My event was at the LA Convention Center, so the metro being literally right in front of the hotel was a huge plus. Also the beach is a short walk away. Love this hotel. I'll be back! read more

We had 2 rooms with balconies and stayed 2 nights. The check in process was lengthy due to a "computer error with expedia," nothing to do with the hotel. They did let us check in 3 hours early, which I thought was awesome. The people in front desk were very serious and didn't seem very friendly. I read a lot of the reviews on this hotel and the only thing I agree with is how clean the hotel was. This hotel has only been open for 1 year, so a lot of the furniture and bedding are new and this is probably why it looks so clean, and I'm sure housekeeping keeps up with it as well. Beds were comfortable. Tv was nice. Very modern with bidet toilets and warming toilet seat. The smell of what we think was paint was very strong, on top of that, our second room which was on the 5th floor smelled like marijuana ( very strong), the entire floor needed ventilation, the hallways were warm and smelled like a combination of chemicals along with the marijuana. We asked for a transfer and they gave us a different room. Although they gave us a different room, the front desk disagreed with how strong the marijuana smell was. The good news was that the second room which was on the 4th floor smelled less like paint and didn't smell like marijuana, also had cooler hallways and better ventilation. There is a $150 dollar deposit plus $25 dollar parking fee per vehicle. Once night hit, it was a nightmare! IF YOU WANT A GOODNIGHT SLEEP, THIS IS NOT THE PLACE FOR YOU!!. 1. Metro link goes all night with loud bell noises. 3. Public transportation goes all night with loud squeaky break sounds. 2. Drunk people walking by all night screaming and being loud. This is why I gave the hotel 3 stars. A good night rest is very important when on vacation. The balcony is very small and all balconies are really close together, your neighbor can jump right on your balcony at any time without any issues. All balconies face the metro link, bad idea! The hotel has a terrace which we had no clue about. It would have been nice to know. For pool hours and any other hotel information, you will have to do your own research as the front desk doesn't say much when you check in. read more
