Bed bug crawled on me and woke me up in the middle of the night
    Adria D.

Bed bugs. Cockroaches. Nuff said. After I reached over to grab a glass of water in the middle of the night and a bed bug crawled up my arm and hopped into bed I screamed and jumped out of bed tore the covers off tried to take pictures of the freaking bed bug followed it what climbed under the mattress was mortified had to move rooms in the middle of the night. The best girl wanted to check out the room and while in the room we noticed a bug by the AC on the floor and I said what is that and she said oh that's just a cockroach. Oh just a cockroach and I just had a bed bug crawling up my arm what in the world. She took a picture of it to report to somebody. This was fairly nice looking hotel it definitely needed paint and touch ups from maintenance. The shower floors were stained and the grout was non-existent and cracks or showing through in room 410. While you sit on the bidet you can notice a lot of water damage under the sink that the maintenance did a horrible job of fixing. There is a tile missing and a warped wall. None of that really bothered me. The bug crawling up my arm in the middle of the night and then having to switch rooms to the room directly above room 510 I could not sleep at all thinking they were climbing through the vents I wouldn't even unpack my suitcases because I didn't want to bring any bed bugs home once I got home I wouldn't even put the suitcases in my place I left them out in my yard for a while to make sure that the bed bugs could crawl out somewhere in the yard. I read online how to wash your clothing mainly you have to kill them in the dryer on a high heat for 20 minutes which I did to all of my belongings so that was the worst money ever spent and they have not responded to my request for compensation and they certainly didn't offer it. I definitely have PTSD and I didn't get a good night's sleep because all I could think of her bugs crawling all over me, it's disgusting

Do not stay here. We realized we'd made a mistake the moment we pulled into the parking lot--crowded, loud, and definitely not secure. The area felt chaotic, and not in a fun city-buzz kind of way. We tried to cancel, but the hotel held firm to their no-refund policy. When we voiced concerns about safety, the front desk confirmed the garage wasn't secured and that "people sometimes come through at night." Not exactly reassuring. The best part? When we mentioned writing a review, they suddenly had a top-floor upgrade and "guaranteed" parking available--though the lot looked full and unprotected. In the end, we walked away, disappointed but determined not to let this experience go unspoken. We hope this review helps others make an informed decision.

We checked in around 11p.m. on a Friday. The front doors were locked for security but staff let us in right away. Parking was convenient. There is a small garage and a lot next to the hotel for $20 a night. We stayed in a two-queen room with a balcony. It smelled and looked very clean. The hotel was really quiet overall. Rooms facing the street might get a bit more noise, but nothing too bad. The room was very spacious with a huge bathroom (seriously could fit 10+ people), a hallway, closet, seating area with a couch and TV, and the beds. Very comfortable setup. Note that room service is only on request, not daily by default. The hotel has a nice rooftop seating area plus a spa, pool, sauna, and steam room. Great location too walking distance to stores, restaurants, the aquarium, the beach, and the theater.

Visiting Long Beach and needed a place for the night. Stopped here just as an inquiry. The keener gave me a tour of the building, after words I booked a room. Great and helpful staff, great location as well.

Another stain charged for. Was there when I arrived. No contact from Hotel Mgmt.

I was charged $150 for stains on the carpet. The stains were there when I arrived. I took pictures. Manager never spoke to me. Owners never spoke to me. No one even tried to resolve this matter. I stayed there less than 24hrs. What kind of people run this business. Disgusting. Please beware if you stay here.

Me just arriving at the hotel. View from the roof top lounge. Great view of beautiful Long Beach!

It was my first time back to LB after 12 years. I arrived from MA. I picked this hotel bc it was very reasonably priced for all its amenities. It is downtown, within walking distance to everything! There's a pool, hot tub, sauna, and steam room. My favorite were the eucalyptus infused cold wash clothes outside of the fitness center. They smelled great and were refreshing... I felt like it was a mini spa. The rooms were very nice, and clean. I loved how quiet my floor was. At the front desk/reception area everyone was so kind, helpful and very welcoming! I will certainly be back and stay here again! Thank you Hotel Mai:-)

Stayed here recently to enjoy some of the Christmas bars and decor in the area. The service was top notch from the get go! Our check in with Maria was friendly and accommodating. We got a balcony room which was huge, clean and that bidet...wow!! From our room, we could see the Convention Center which was beautifully decorated. Yogi gave us a tour of the hotel which has an indoor pool and sauna. Agreed with the other reviewers that it is noisy from the Tram which is right outdoors. A suggestion would be to get one of those ambient noise machines for the rooms! That would totally help! Check out was easy and Ruby was kind enough to let us stay parked while we enjoyed breakfast nearby. Between the service and immaculate room, I would totally visit again.

After housekeeping cleared a used teacup from my room earlier in the day, it wasn't replaced...something I'd expect as a basic standard at a hotel of this caliber. I called to request a new one and ended up waiting 21 minutes before calling back for the status on it. I was then told that they would follow up on it and I'd receive an update on the status. 7 more minutes go by - no cup, NO UPDATE. I called back one final time, to which the man on the phone said, yes he put in a rush order and the man who's delivering it is elderly and it might take him just a few minutes longer. I said no problem but just so you know, my cup was taken earlier in the day and not replaced. The man then said he can definitely let housekeeping know for next time. I proceeded to respond and intended to say okay great but before I could even get to the great, he STRAIGHT UP HUNG UP ON ME. Also the person who delivered the cup was a younger boy so idk if the elderly man reasoning was just an excuse for the moment. I went down to the lobby immediately to speak to the manger in person and let her know how insanely unprofessional, unpleasant, and UNCOOL this was. They made an error and I got attitude back for it?! AT A FIVE STAR HOTEL. To their credit, she did apologize and sent up dessert, but by that point the issue wasn't about the teacup or a free comped anything. It was about the breakdown in communication, lack of respect, and service quality. Overall, not the level of service I anticipated for the price, which is disappointing. I will not be staying here again and don't recommend it for anyone else looking for a true five star experience.

So rather than pay an astronomical fee for the privilege of proximity, I did a quick search of the area. There are plenty of options, but many of them just seemed suspect. The I came across the Varden. Definitely a boutique hotel, but definitely worth checking out. The rooms are typically small with barely room for a bed, a partial desk and a small bathroom area. But the room was extremely clean, the fixtures and bed were new and cool and for one person, really perfect. Particularly since other than sleeping and checking emails, what else do you really need? Well, for starters you need to feel safe. And this place does a great job of securing the facility at night, but you don't feel you're in a bad neighborhood anyway. You also might like to enjoy a welcoming attitude, and the staff and place has plenty of that. The young staff were extremely friendly and accommodating. Being forewarned that the property has 3 levels and no elevator is important, but honestly, it's not a tough climb to floor 3. And as a testament at how great the staff are, they wouldn't take no, and they carried my bags to my 3rd floor room. Since I was there for meetings, I needed to press my clothes, so a call to the front desk resulted in a brand new Iron and Board appearing at my room within minutes. And being welcomed by a reception with snacks, wine and drinks between 5:00 - 7:00 everyday, is just super nice. They also do a continental breakfast from 6:00-9:00 daily. They have a hip space right behind the registration area for these treats so it's easy to walk through on your way in/out of the property. And best of all the price per night was less than 1/2 of what those big chain hotels were charging. And I was less than 4 blocks (and a very nice walk past lots of local stores/restaurants to give me a feel for the area) from the Convention Center. For all these reasons, if you're in Long Beach solo, I would highly recommend you check out the Varden.
