Brought the kids as my daughter had recently mentioned that she wanted to go - she's getting into film photography and wanted to try some shots in and around the area. The tour was fun, and it had been so long since I had been here myself that I (re)learned a bunch of new info on the ship and its history! ;) We'll see how the photos come out, but the fam had a great time, and we'll likely be back for the ghost tours before too long. :)

The Queen Mary is such a cool spot in Long Beach with a lot of history and character. The views are beautiful, the setting feels really unique. I also liked seeing the Titanic model inside and photos of the famous passengers like Audrey Hepburn. Parts of it can feel a little worn but it's part of the ambiance, overall it's a great place to walk around and experience something different. I highly recommend going at sunset time.

Beautiful ship with so much rich history. I love visiting historical places, and I always appreciate it when they're not just treated as museums but are still functional. We went for Sunday brunch and also joined the steam engine tour. I didn't realize that once you're done with brunch, you can roam around the ship freely--I thought you needed separate tickets, so I also booked the tour. We did enjoy it though; it was very informative. The theater was really nice too. I can imagine what it must have been like back in the day when people actually sailed on the Queen Mary minus the ship rocking back and forth up to 45 degrees, haha. I was really surprised that it's dog-friendly, both as a hotel and a museum, even in the buffet area. I would have thought they'd worry about accidents that could damage the ship or be difficult to clean. I don't believe in ghosts, but it's fun that they offer a ghost tour if you're into that kind of thing. I also enjoyed the spooky store downstairs, and you can see the most haunted room through a window. I wish we could have seen the pool. Well technically you can view it through a window, but since I'm short, it was hard to get a good look. Overall, the Queen Mary was a fun experience. If you're into historical places or haunted attractions, it's definitely worth checking out.

I love what they've done to update the Queen Mary. The observation bar was sublime. The service was amazing. They fleece you for parking. Boooooo. Overall, outstanding.

On each floor, there are two rooms right by the elevator. You can only imagine the level of noise this causes. I called in, spoke to Heather, told her I was celebrating my birthday. Got on just fine on the phone. And to see what I was going to wake up for my birthday in made me extremely emotional. We tried laying down for bed at 1130pm. Noise was so unbearable and loud that we had to pack up and leave. 11 hours of wtf. Not only did the staff ignore that a birthday was being celebrated, they actually place people in rooms right next to the elevators and entry way into the ship so you're heading the tires of luggage on the beaded floor. It was an absolute DISASTER. Mind you, they are banking! They are giving tours well into 1-2am and nothing is updated. A sweater costs $80 but the rooms have plastic drawer handles that haven't been cleaned. The walls haven't been cleaned. The light switches haven't been clean. It's a shame, really. As a historian I came thinking I'd see something restored or at least presentable. Our Delux room was filthy.

The Queen Mary not only serves as a cool piece of history located right here in Long Beach, but also a real cool location for some of Southern California's best music festivals. I like that the ship is being used in such a cool way, for the festivals (Day Trip, Dreamstate, and Apocalypse) you can even get a hotel room on the ship. The whole ship is booked out only to festival attendees. I know you can also book rooms throughout the year and the ship also offers different tours, including a haunted ghost tour since the ship is supposedly haunted!!! I definitely want to do a tour in the future and also check out their Dark Harbour Halloween event.

History Nerds will love it! Yuppies and Trust Fund Kids will hate it... I got some sort of deal for $235 for a weekday night, and a $50 breakfast credit...not too bad! PROS: -An almost authentic historic experience stay aboard a somewhat "Titantic" cruise ship. -Well restored sections of the ship throughout -Observation Bar and the Semi Secret Speakeasy with live music were both fun. -Historic First Class Cabins are actually quite roomy and comfy. Loved the ambience and time travel! -We were here for a Swing Dancing/Lindy Hop event...so fun! -Excellent Breakfast Buffet we used the $50 credit for. -Friendly staff all around. CONS: -It's an almost 100 year old boat! It's going have some quirks, creaks, aches, noises...all of which are expected, even on a modern cruise ship. Fun Fact: RMS Queen Mary was significantly bigger than the RMS Titanic in terms of length, beam, and gross tonnage. The Queen Mary was over 130 feet longer and its gross tonnage was nearly double that of the Titanic. That said, this is probably the closest thing to a Titanic Experience.

While we were on vacation in Long Beach, we checked out The Queen Mary before heading off on a 5-day cruise. The one-hour tour was totally worth it. The Queen Mary's Haunted Encounters Tour is an educational adventure that isn't too spooky. The guided tour person provided some eerie stories and history of the ship. The tour also highlights some of the most interesting ghost stories and experiences. After the tour, we relaxed with some drinks at the lovely Observation Bar. The staff was friendly and paid attention to us, and, the cocktails tasted amazing! While we were hanging out, we took in the awesome Art Deco style and the amazing views of the harbor and Long Beach.

We came here on a Sunday afternoon just to have a drink on the ship. We were taken a back that we had to pay $45 each to even board but we had no idea the experience that awaited us. We are so glad we did this because we did not know the extensive history of the ship. We were absolutely blown away by everything we learned and saw that day. The highlights for us was the propeller room, engine room, the historic bar, promenade, and the bridge. There's also a World War II exhibit. We had no idea that Winston Churchill used the ship during the war. Plan at least three hours or more to see everything. Unfortunately, we came right after a big music festival so not everything was open. They do have a Royal Sunday brunch. We for sure will be back to experience that.

The guided tour felt somewhat pointless since you can actually walk around most of the ship on your own. I didn't stay in a room--just toured the boat--but it's definitely a unique experience. That said, I'm not sure I'd want to stay overnight here.

My review is long overdue. My colleagues and I came here last year for a farewell get-together for one of our coworkers and we all enjoyed it very much. We all signed up online for the bar to have the free entry to the Queen Mary, so you can basically see all the general areas of the ship but to really get to learn about the ship you need to book tours. However, it was enough for all of us as we wandered around the ship and enjoyed ourselves very much. They also have a nice giftshop which I really want to go back to check out. Next time I would come earlier in order to see more of what the ship had to offer.

The Queen Mary, a talented, brilliant, incredible, amazing, show stopping historic part of Los Angeles County history in the city of Long Beach. It's a multi-level massive 18 level deck ship meet museum meet hotel, meet plethora of eateries, activities and sites. At 1,019 feet long, the RMS QM might be the adventure you never knew you needed. I haven't been here since I can't even remember when, a solid 10+ years, but definitely been aboard a few times, though it felt like a brand new experience exploring the ship, even getting mixed in briefly with a tour group or two between lunch at the Promenade Cafe, running into a group a guys we knew leaving brunch. They do their best to upkeep and maintain, while preserving the structure, but it's definitely a long haul slow and steady journey. Parking can be validated at many of the places including the buffet and some places do require a deposit/pre-pay to enjoy. Areas that are prohibited and/or non-passenger friendly are labeled and/or sectioned off for public access. Noticeable wear and tear or damage to steps and certain areas on the upper open air decks are chained for safety. You can see so many viewpoints from all over the ship. Lots of amazing rooms throughout including the game room, book store and chambers of former crew members of the past. It's pretty amazing to see where people lived way back when. One of the showers with four or five different levers and knobs really had me pondering what that was like. Is one for soaping? Lol #VintageVibin Grateful for the free Wi-Fi throughout the ship, public restrooms, validation for parking and attentiveness of most of the staff. Currently you can experience the the Queen Mary's Dark Harbor VIP Package for an overnight stay as well as enjoy their haunting seasonal experience which is always a spooky treat. We didn't have any cocktails or beverages of the abv variety, but did enjoy some alcohol free libations, a meal and of course our visit to the QM. If staying in the hotel they have reasonable rates, winter seems to be the best deal, especially December. Might consider a 40th birthday celebration here for sure... Though I know the amenities are sparse. Sunday Funday brunch is from 10:00AM - 2:00PM in the Salon on the R-Deck and they have a lot of variety. It's a but pricey, but does include a complimentary glass of sparkling as well as parking. Observation Bar, was/is one of my favorite places to explore, but so is most of the Promenade deck. Serving up awesome events, attractions, photo ops, history/herstory, dining experience and delicious beverages as a permanent retired Royal Mail Ship since the late 60s (1967).

A ship, museum, and a hotel all in one and then some? I'm honestly not sure I can start off any other review like that! Super belated review, but my visit was in late June thanks to a volunteer opportunity that was held there. Two of the perks were free admission, normally ~$45 I was told, and free parking, which would have been ~$27 for the whole day. I shudder to think how much it would cost to spend even one night there, especially if I had dined at one of the eateries there. Actually, I did get some lunch at Midship Marketplace, one of the eateries on the ship, between my volunteer shifts; however, that cafe was nothing more than a tourist trap. ~$20 for a turkey sandwich and a small iced coffee?! Luckily, that was the only money I spent that day on the Queen Mary, and it's certainly not often when someone can say they spent less than an Andrew Jackson in one day on the Queen Mary. I could have purchased some gifts at one of the various shops they have inside the Queen Mary, but I was more focused on snapping photos, knowing this was my one opportunity to visit the ship at no cost. There are a multitude of entry points into the ship with a gangway leading into each deck. It's real easy to get lost, and even if you had the full day blocked off for exploring the ship, you may not be able to see everything they have! At least, until your phone battery dies. I tried to stay as long as I could, but once dinner hours started (5 PM each day of the week), my phone battery was at 20% after snapping several hundred photos. Besides Midship Marketplace, the other eateries on the Queen Mary are the Observation Bar, Chelsea Chowder House & Bar, Promenade Cafe, and a Royal Sunday Brunch, which wouldn't have worked for me since I went on a Friday. I was looking around for lunch options that day, and the only options besides the tourist trap of a Starbucks cafe was the Observation Bar and the Promenade Cafe. It's worth noting that had I gone on any other weekday, the Observation Bar wouldn't have even been a lunch option, but even so, their only eats are small bites. Since I had an afternoon shift to get to, I wasn't sure how fast service would be at the Promenade Cafe, so I had no other choice, unfortunately. Restrooms are a plenty inside the ship, but watch your step! For some restrooms, you actually have to step up into the room, so you can't just roll right through the door; otherwise, you will fall flat on your face. There are four gift shops inside the Queen Mary: Portside Marketplace, Piccadilly Delights, J.T. Jones Bookstore, and STACKS Aboard the Queen Mary. The first three are located quite close to one another in the Main Hall on the Promenade Deck. The STACKS store is in the A-Deck, aloof from the first three. The Queen's Landing is another option for a gift shop, but that's outside of the Queen Mary. I didn't go inside that one, but I'm sure they have a nice selection of Queen Mary merch available for purchase. Throughout the ship, you will see tour guides giving tours to groups of attendees. I didn't go on any of the tours since it would have cost quite a bit, even with a discounted rate for a volunteer, and I would have wanted to explore on my own terms anyways. There are several options for tours on the Queen Mary, and they are no less than an hour long. Remember how I said it was easy to get lost? I was hoping to explore the Cunard Story exhibit, which I found shortly before my afternoon volunteer shift. However, it took me almost an hour to find it again! I remembered it being on an upper deck, but since the upper deck had a multitude of levels, each of which can only be accessed via a certain stairwell, I couldn't remember how I found it the first time! And the directions got a little confusing too even though they do have ample signage directing patrons to certain parts of the ship. The Cunard Story exhibit is one exhibit you must see during your stay on this ship! And the other exhibits are definitely worth visiting as well! It's hard to name a favorite exhibit because they're all good in their own ways! Even on the Promenade Deck, there are a bunch of artifacts on display, including a historical piano, which can't be played, unfortunately, but understandably. Throughout the ship, there will be photos and even exhibits of rooms that were in use while the ship was in operation, so you'll know what first class was like back then. Although it's all the way on the far end of the ship, the Engine Room is quite a maze in and of itself that you can't help but wonder how they figured out how all that machinery worked together to make the ship run. At least at the time of my visit, the room can only be accessed via multiple stairwells. That was one of the last exhibits I visited before my phone battery got too low, and my legs/feet were getting pretty tired too, especially while navigating the labyrinth of Queen Mary's engine. Overall, a must see! Especially if you can get in for free! :)

Ask the Community - The Queen Mary

Is the bar open now, the observation bar?

The Observation Bar was open on 05/25/2023... I think that was the first week. My drink definitely had vodka!

Are there any jump scares on the haunted tour?

The Paranormal Walking Tour did not have any "jump scares" (I wish!). My tour in May didn't have any paranormal activity either but it was great tour of the ship and lasted the full 2 hours.

    Is queen Mary open?

Yes the Queen Mary is now open for tours, dining and overnight stays. Beautiful and such a rich history, plus part of your stay helps to preserve the ship. It's a win win! 🚢🩵

Is it open to tourist as of right now?

Are there tours going on as of nov 2020? thank you.

Planning to take pictures standing outside of the Queen Mary and not go inside. Is there a fee to enter the parking lot?

No fee, you can also go inside and your the ship without a fee on non-event days.

    Is it really haunted?

Extremely. Stayed here three times and something always happened. Also brought tools that spirits can speak through and always got voices back. It's no bs. Walk the ship and feel the energy. Download ghost hunting apps even and they will show proof.

We will be staying in 2 rooms, both with 2 queen beds. We are hoping they are on the starboard (right) side of the boat facing water. Are most of the rooms on the water side? It would be a bummer to pay so much money and get to look out at pavement.

What rooms in the queen Mary are haunted I'm trying to stay there with my friends to have fun?

The most haunted room is B340 but it is extremely expensive, any room on floor B is pretty haunted though!

    Yes!

Are towels provide in the rooms? What about Refrigerators? Kinda scared now after reading the reviews but it's too late to cancel. Scared of the reviews nothing having to do…

Is there air conditioning in the rooms?

No - at least not in the room I stayed in. They have two "vents" that you can adjust the flow and direction. It doesn't really get that hot in Long Beach so A/C is not really needed.

Has anyone had any paranormal experiences here? I love exploring these kinds of things and I'm obsessed with learning about the queen Mary

Yes, pictures I took during the Paranormal Ship Walk (Do That!) turned out not only to have some mist/orbs in them (not using a flash) but in the isolation room, two of the orbs have faces, one is very clear & detailed. I also got a bunch of orbs… Read more

From the hotel I was able to walk to downtown and explore cute shops! The staff was also amazing! They were quick and thoughtful with the check-in/check-out process. When we had an issue with the TV, they came over quickly and helped us troubleshoot it. They also were helpful when I realized I forgot my toothbrush. Very much high-end hotel experience. I was also able to study in the lounge which was quiet and peaceful. I will say, I didn't exactly love the sliding door in the bathroom. It doesn't lock (or if it did, I wasn't able to figure it out) so there's not much privacy. I've been seeing this sliding bathroom door trend among many hotels, so this isn't a negative towards this specific hotel. Overall, it was a great experience and I would stay again! The Pike refers to a shopping and entertainment area within this city block. So it's real convenient to restaurants, outlets, a movie theatre, and ALLLL the Long Beach Harbor and Shoreline Village offer: shopping, a arcade with carousel, Long Beach Aquarium of the Pacific, Shoreline Aquatic Park, Long Beach Pier, LB Boat Rentals and Wheel Fun Rentals. Not to mention a really nice, easy walkway along the shoreline with postcard views of the Queen Mary. Hyatt Regency is great of you're attending a conference at the convention center and can write off biz expenses. Otherwise, I find the parking fees, even with in/out privileges for guest, to be steep($44/nt self; $49/nt valet), I addition to the "Destination Fee" ($30) charged at Hyatt Regency. NOW, that being said, sometimes they have package deals, so these fees can be absorbed. Compare it to Hyatt Centric The Pike, where you will be parking at a Long Beach City Public Parking structure next-door to the Hyatt Centric(separate review), NOT having in/out privileges, unless you pay each time you leave, but paying $24/day and no "Destination Fee", and I think Hyatt Centric makes more sense for pedestrian explorers. Since both hotels are within the same walking areas, choose what works best for you, but those are my strongest considerations for choosing at which Hyatt in downtown LB I'll be staying. Hubs doesn't give a rip. LOL Anywho, here is ALSO why Hyatt Centric feels "homier" to me. First and foremost - THE STAFF!!!! Jorge, Dir. of Operations, reached out ahead of my arrival(standard), but continued to be of assistance when I engaged with him about my stay and what our celebrations for the New Year would be. Very thoughtful. Emma was friendly and very helpful in checking us in and making sure I received all my Hyatt Member amenities and perks. David, Front Office Manager, followed up to see that our stay was a successful and happy one and to further offer any assistance for future stays. Throughout our stay, we were greeted by staff cheerfully, but they never imposed. Honestly, remember when Hyatt use to boast about "the Hyatt Touch"? THIS is what they meant. They may not refer to that in marketing, but Hyatt Centric The Pike Long Beach seems to be one property that is still very committed to this idea. I have been staying at this property since it was an Avia. Hyatt purchased the property in 2011 and began renovations in 2012, which I believe finished in 2020, just in time for a pandemic to hit. We came back in 2021 to beautiful new decor that really features the sights synonymous to Long Beach, but especially the harbor and nautical history. Cute details like hallway lights resembling portholes, or some Queen Mary history lessons in the elevator halls, highlighting her use during WWII. The wallpaper in the rooms, has a focus wall of an aerial shot of the shipping containers at the Port of LB, and the carpet coordinates a flow of that same idea. Yeeesssss..., in some areas the decor is already looking a bit worn, but I believe its a pretty popular property so I don't mind because it's all familiar, comfortable and there are no problems with anything broken. Amenities! I ADORE the roof poolside patio for city scapes and views of the Queen Mary during any season. I'm not typically a pool user, but have dipped during especially hot weather when staycationing here. Plenty of room to spread out! I find the rooms really comfy, and plenty big, the shower and bathroom fabulous! A cozy robe, efficiency fridge, Keurig with pods, extra blankets and pillows and motion sensor lights on the bed frame, assisting your way to a middle of the night bathroom sesh. Also available: gym, water stations, poolside cabanas(for a fee), poolside lounge chairs and seasonal rooftop bar, a business center, free wi-fi throughout and meeting/banquet rooms. They also have a really cute outside patio on the ground floor, adjacent to the lobby, that the banquet rooms can open onto featuring a HUGE chess board! Each of our stays at Hyatt Centric The Pike LB has had a special memory. I'm already planning my next stay. HC@TPLB makes a PERFECT location for a long Catalina Island Day trip! Catalina Express is a short, easy, maybe 5min, walk and then coming back to a cozy room after a Catalina excursion is the icing on the cake. I plan on booking for the night before, to catch the earliest(calmest seas are early morning) boat the next AM, then returning to our room after we return on the last boat back, around 8pm. Whatever your plans are for seeing Long Beach, check into Hyatt Centric at The Pike Long Beach for an easy, comfortable stay. Cheers! "CC"

Bathroom a little small but easy to work with. They had a fridge and coffee maker. In the lobby they have a small room in the back behind the receptionist that has tea, coffee, utensils and other things you may need on your trip! Plus it's a cute area to sit in the morning or while waiting for your Uber. They have plenty of water in the lobby. Bottled and ice water from a large glass dispenser. There are bikes available for use. It's a pretty great location - we were able to walk to really incredible restaurants, and it was super close to our cruise port!!! We highly recommend this place and would book it again on our next Long Beach stay!

The bathroom had a shower and it also provided full sized bath and body essentials. They do not have an elevator but we managed to bring our stuff up a flight of stairs with no issues. The guy who was working in the lobby did offer to help us but we declined. Overall we had an amazing experience here and can't wait to return.

The service is very good, but they do need to work on getting you into your room on time. The maid service is exceptional. We also love the valets. This hotel is expensive, but great for a special occasion. It has a full bar, room service and at least 3 eateries. We loved having brunch there. Their eggs benedict are just great as is all the food. We did not get a chance to try the other eateries. We loved the pool. After housekeeping cleared a used teacup from my room earlier in the day, it wasn't replaced...something I'd expect as a basic standard at a hotel of this caliber. I called to request a new one and ended up waiting 21 minutes before calling back for the status on it. I was then told that they would follow up on it and I'd receive an update on the status. 7 more minutes go by - no cup, NO UPDATE. I called back one final time, to which the man on the phone said, yes he put in a rush order and the man who's delivering it is elderly and it might take him just a few minutes longer. I said no problem but just so you know, my cup was taken earlier in the day and not replaced. The man then said he can definitely let housekeeping know for next time. I proceeded to respond and intended to say okay great but before I could even get to the great, he STRAIGHT UP HUNG UP ON ME. Also the person who delivered the cup was a younger boy so idk if the elderly man reasoning was just an excuse for the moment. I went down to the lobby immediately to speak to the manger in person and let her know how insanely unprofessional, unpleasant, and UNCOOL this was. They made an error and I got attitude back for it?! AT A FIVE STAR HOTEL. To their credit, she did apologize and sent up dessert, but by that point the issue wasn't about the teacup or a free comped anything. It was about the breakdown in communication, lack of respect, and service quality. Overall, not the level of service I anticipated for the price, which is disappointing. I will not be staying here again and don't recommend it for anyone else looking for a true five star experience.

She was very kind and offered a room upgrade for free to a deluxe room with a partial ocean view. Now the room is where the ratings start to go downhill. The bathroom does not have a vent so it gets very steamy and it takes awhile for it to evaporate. The bathtub did not drain quickly so the water started to pool at the beginning of the shower. The fan in the bedroom hardly works. The low and high fan are practically working at the same speed and I didn't notice any difference. The room finally got to the desired temp after about 2-3 hours. The cabinet door to the fridge was broken at a hinge so we weren't able to access the fridge at all. Also, some of the channels on cable tv were not accessible. There is a $18 resort fee they charge upon arrival that caught me by surprise. I don't remember seeing this at the time of booking but I could've overlooked it. I really wanted to like this hotel, but the defects with the room were hard to miss. However, I did enjoy the amenities and the location. There were a lot of nearby restaurants that are within walking distance.

The neighborhood is a typical downtown area and can be seedy but the hotel itself is secure with the main entrance by key card only at night and the elevators also require your key card to be operational. My room, a single king, was clean and in good shape. There is a large TV, desk area, adequate closet, and mini-fridge with Keurig machine in the room. The iron is of high quality and perfect for pressing my clothes for my meetings. The bathroom is very nice with a Toto Washlet that are common in Japan. The room's thermostat, however, is in Centigrade so do brush up on your metric system! My only real criticism was that the room safe did not open all the way as the closet door blocked its full opening. The top floor has a nice sitting area to relax and there is a quaint workout room and pool area. There is also a sauna which I did not use. Upon checking out, I had a nice conversation with Yogi, the owner, who told me a little about the place and how it was named. Overall, my stay at the Hotel Mai was a wonderful one and I would certainly go back the next time I need to stay in Long Beach!

So rather than pay an astronomical fee for the privilege of proximity, I did a quick search of the area. There are plenty of options, but many of them just seemed suspect. The I came across the Varden. Definitely a boutique hotel, but definitely worth checking out. The rooms are typically small with barely room for a bed, a partial desk and a small bathroom area. But the room was extremely clean, the fixtures and bed were new and cool and for one person, really perfect. Particularly since other than sleeping and checking emails, what else do you really need? Well, for starters you need to feel safe. And this place does a great job of securing the facility at night, but you don't feel you're in a bad neighborhood anyway. You also might like to enjoy a welcoming attitude, and the staff and place has plenty of that. The young staff were extremely friendly and accommodating. Being forewarned that the property has 3 levels and no elevator is important, but honestly, it's not a tough climb to floor 3. And as a testament at how great the staff are, they wouldn't take no, and they carried my bags to my 3rd floor room. Since I was there for meetings, I needed to press my clothes, so a call to the front desk resulted in a brand new Iron and Board appearing at my room within minutes. And being welcomed by a reception with snacks, wine and drinks between 5:00 - 7:00 everyday, is just super nice. They also do a continental breakfast from 6:00-9:00 daily. They have a hip space right behind the registration area for these treats so it's easy to walk through on your way in/out of the property. And best of all the price per night was less than 1/2 of what those big chain hotels were charging. And I was less than 4 blocks (and a very nice walk past lots of local stores/restaurants to give me a feel for the area) from the Convention Center. For all these reasons, if you're in Long Beach solo, I would highly recommend you check out the Varden.
