Absolutely no complaints wonderful from check in to check out. Every staff member we encountered was friendly and helpful and went out of their way to make us feel welcome. Great margaritas in the little bar and the breakfast buffet is delicious. I highly recommend the tamale, best I've ever had. We had just a standard room it was decorated very nicely, plenty of seating, plenty of storage and the best shower I have ever taken it's a it's a rain shower type head that is mounted to the ceiling so you basically step under the shower best I've ever experienced and I am a shower Connoisseur! The bed was not too soft or two firms very comfortable. Absolutely no complaints we will definitely come back here to beautiful pools really pretty grounds that are well-maintained you can't go wrong here. read more

This hotel has made my Wedding experience by far the worst. If you are planning the wedding I have which is just for you not to stay at this hotel for you to choose a Hotel Araiza. First of all they put me in the wrong room I had originally booked months ago and I have came to view. Prior to booking. I grouped a party they did not give me a discount or offer any special incentives. They do not call me a day before to make sure if I needed anything did not put anything special in my room. By far this is the worst experience I should have picked the other hotel. I cannot express anymore how unpleasant this experience has been. read more

This long weekend I wanted to try a new weekend get away; I decided to go past Palm Springs. I didn't book in advance so I was left to the mercy of yelp...not disappointed whatsoever. This room is clean, very large, comfortable bed unobstructed views. It is next to a busy major road that can get loud, but with the door/window closed and the A/C on its fine. The bathroom is modern and has a rain shower with mild pressure. I witnessed a wedding reception last night and families with kids at the pool this morning. There are 3 restaurants here (very modern and inviting). I am enjoying my stay. read more

Hospitality and customer service must be their main focus. Every single member of the staff went above and beyond and out of their way to greet us and make sure we were satisfied. Our room was beautiful and very clean and fresh when we arrived. Very modern and well kept interior. Minutes from the border with easy and safe parking with a guard outside. This resort style hotel has everything you need so you don't have to ever leave. Restaurants, bars, shopping, pools, gym. Only suggestion is beware of the bird poop. It is serious business. If you do happen to get dumped on though there is a very fast and thorough General (Dukes of Hazard Themed) car was right around the corner. This hotel is one of the best hotels in Mexicali. I have stayed here several times. Rooms are clean, beds and pillows are comfortable and the grounds are well kept. They have at least three restaurants on site all top notch. I must add that the best attribute to the hotel is their personal, always attentive and ready to help. If there is one thing to keep in mind, if you want an area without noise stay away from rooms 701 thru 708. The bar is right outside so you will hear noise pertty much all day and the gym is directly below room 701. Other then that all good. read more

Where do I start???? Everything was AMAZING ! The hotel and rooms are as good as they look in the pictures. The service was 5 star. Anything you asked for they would get it for you. Pay the extra and get the bungalow suite. It's detached from the main hotel and located around the larger of the 2 pools. With the bungalow you get free happy hour with beer and tequila . But they made whatever drinks we asked for. The Sunday brunch was amazing . Everything was fresh a delicious . We sat literally from the start of brunch to the end partaking of the free mimosas and beer or mechiladas . They don't start the alcohol until 10 but had no problem with me bringing my beer from room while I waited for first pour. Oh , by the way in your refrigerator located in your room you will find a beer,coke,juice and water . You get 1 free everyday . However they will check your room throughout the day and refill it . Btw the beer is like $2 American so it's ok if you keep drinking them. I know for us on the California cost it's quicker and easier to go to Rosarito but the drive was well worth it!! Mexicali doesn't get the big American crowds they do on the coast but the trade off is it also does not have the tourist prices to go with it. We never had a beer over $3 or a taco over $1 ! In short this isn't a party town but if you want a resort style vacation and just drink some beers and relax come here . I was suppose to be there for 1 night needed up staying 3! Checked in on a Friday night and paid with cash. On Saturday after leaving a wedding we went back to the room to finally go to sleep after a long night. Our room card did not open our room. We went to the front desk, mind you it was 3am and it turns out the front desk clerk only wrote down that the we paid for one night. The receipt stated one nights pay with check out for Sunday (2 nights). Obviously she made a mistake and we paid the price. They asked us to pay for another night in order to get our room back. All our things were in there so we paid and we were told they would investigate and it would be resolved. 5 days later we have yet to hear back from them. They took our money and we have not been refunded. We ended up going to sleep at 5am on Saturday after our room card was not working trying to resolve the problem with them. We were told to wake up at 8am to see the manager and he was not in. Waste of money on a hotel when we couldn't even sleep in to enjoy the room. Very disappointed. Was really looking forward to being a regular reoccurring guest. I will make sure to let everyone know not to stay there. read more

Initially found this place online and booked one night. Here I am, day three, it wasn't difficult to convince myself to stay one more night; then another. Definitely an anyplace to stay! Their service is 5 stars. I found myself worried about being on a diet in Mexico. However, I requested meals on my meal plan and they delivered! From Fantastic salmon to cucumber and tomatoes. I love this place! If they sold time shares I would buy on the spot. From the moment I stepped foot on the grounds Rodolfo provided EXCELLENT service! From carrying my bags, tour of the property and non stop drinks to endless ice in my bucket. This is the best unplanned vacation! Then I met Francisco who provided endless Fantastic service. Even recommended a few awesome places to eat and shop. Finally I met Stephanie, to top off my stay, SUPERIOR service in the VIP LOUNGE where the free happy hour is included. Stephanie recommended THE BEST TACO PLACE IN MEXICALI. That's why we stayed another day ! This is my new spot! Will be back as often as I can! read more

It was a nice stay overall until the end. We parked our car at the very entrance. There are trees that line the entire front of the hotel which is one place you can park your car. We came out the next morning and our car was covered in tree sap. When we complained to the hotel manager they told us they were not responsible. There were other cars impacted. I don't believe this is the first time this happens. I was surprised the hotel hadn't done something to prevent it or warn clients. The hotel told us to take our car to the car wash. The car wash needed to do a special treatment as soap and water wouldn't work. This cost us $83 USD. It took 3 hrs which hurt our travel time to the next city. The hotel manager, Nabil, promised she try to do something to help cover the cost. I emailed her and two days later no reply. This was a very poor experience and nothing I had very seen happen at a high end hotel. I won't recommend this hotel. UPDATE on MAY 07, 2018: Although I was promised a reimbursement, to this day, I have not received a follow up even after several emails and still no credit to my account. Not only does the management not understand customer service but they are liars. Don't stay here. read more

This is our 2nd visit to this delightful "find". I'm sitting poolside as I write this. We've been coming to Mexicalli periodically for about a year for dental implants (can recommend a terrific dentist!). Our first stay was in a big 4-star high-rise that we decided not to go back to and asked our dentist for an alternate option. They recommended Hotel Lucerna and we'll never go anywhere else. Our first visit was in the 5-story building on the north end of the property and the room was exquisite. We arrived earlier than expected for our current stay and there were no rooms in the same building that were ready for an early check-in so we paid the nominal fee to upgrade to a "bungalow" and are glad we did. The bungalows are all single story duplexes and are as nicely renovated and redecorated as the high-rise building but the rooms are larger (wider) and the rooms comes with additional amenities that more than paid for the upcharge: a VIP lounge that offers free happy hour every evening and "continental breakfast" that includes hot items like pancakes, Ranchero scrambled eggs, potatoes, meats, fresh fruit, muffins and breads, cereals, juices and a variety of regular and specialty coffees. The room also comes with robes, slippers, and a selection of complementary beverages, including a beer a day. All this is very much appreciated, HOWEVER, what really sets this property apart is the staff. I've stayed in upscale hotels all over the world and have never experienced such genuine attention from the front desk at check-in to Antonio (bell hop and general all-around concierge) and Karina (hostess in the VIP lounge). On our first visit we parked in the wrong area and went to the wrong check-in area. Antonio walked us over to the correct reception area. On this visit he happened to be in the reception area and told us about the benefits of upgrading to the bungalows while the front desk person looked for early check-in options. As would be expected he helped us get our bags to the room and then we under-tipped, having trouble with the quick currency conversion in my head. I asked if it was enough and he said it didn't matter that anything at all was very much appreciated. It turns out I'd given him a little over one dollar US and we tracked him down and made it right. He gushed over how thoughtful we were - he was sincere. Every time we see him he greets us and asks if we need anything. This morning he went to the lounge and got us coffee from Karina. Housekeeping has been very polite. We've experienced this level of service from every staff member we've come in contact with... kudos to management who has created an amazing culture here!!! We are getting a discount through our dentist, but assume that based on our extremely reasonable discounted price that the regular price is very moderate at worst (possibly should be categorized as inexpensive). read more

Rooms are very nice and clean! Showers have rain shower heads which the kids loved! Roman went above and beyond to make us feel welcomed. He was always available for anything we needed and always had a nice smile on his face. The pool was not heated but I'm sure it's not needed during the scorching HOT Summer time. We are excited about returning this Summer and staying at one of the pool front bungalows which offer free evening happy hour! We just hope that Roman or workers like him are available to give us the same hospitality. Thank you Roman for making this a memorable vacation for our family!! read more

STEER CLEAR!!! I stayed there about three years ago while visiting for Christmas, and my car got broken into. The so-called security guard was "making a perimeter round", while the thieves broke my car windshield. Did they reimburse me! NOPE! Did they apologize to me? NOPE! Instead, the "security manager" came out & BLAMED IT ON ME!!! He was very chauvinistic, condescending, and simply did not care. I got the names of the employees involved, wrote to the hotel manager about it. And it was to demand the money I had deposited for an additional night, which I had obviously not used after such terrible incident. So please beware! They will kiss up to you, especially when they know that you're a foreigner b/c they think we poop money for a living. But the moment they label you as "vulnerable", they will go after your property & kick you to the curb! Don't say you weren't warned! I highly recommend you stay at Araiza Hotel, where you need a hotel key to get in and out of the parking lot; and not just some hooligans can do as they please with guest vehicles. read more

We stay here once a month. The staff is what makes this place 5 stars. They are super attentive and want to ensue guests are comfortable and happy. We always get one of the bungalows poolside - they are nice large spacious rooms. Great bedding, pillows, etc. Very comfortable. These rooms come with a nightly happy hour in a beautiful private lounge overlooking one of the pools. Free drinks, wine and beer. Last time we stayed the appetizers were basically a full dinner - jumbo shrimp, sliders, salad, etc. The stay in these rooms also include a breakfast in the same lounge - a good hot breakfast with fresh fruit, yogurt, fresh juices, etc. The restaurants are great, too. We have eaten at the Italian restaurant and at the buffet on a Sunday morning (mexican dishes more than you can possibly eat and so yummy!). 2 great pools with plenty of chaise lounges, tables and umbrellas. Poolside service is great and affordable. We've stayed at all the nice hotels in Mexicali and this is the best. Araiza down the street has nice rooms only on the 5th and 6th floors. The pool area has limited seating and no service. The staff is unfriendly. Spend $10-20 more and stay at lucerna... There is no comparison in Mexicali. read more

Have been coming to Lucerna for a couple years now. My experience up until this point has been wonderful! We stayed a week this last week in their bungalows, which we have done before. I was disappointed initially by the cleanliness of our rooms and the turn-overs of our rooms each day were also disappointing. With the cost of the bungalows there are a few things that were supposed to be complimentary each day and they were not. The one time I used their laundry service I was overcharged, when I brought it up to the front desk they blew me off and when I asked to speak to a manager I was told it would " be awhile". Never got to speak to her but the man at the front desk informed me there's nothing they can do because they out-service the laundry. I told him whether or not they use another company THEY themselves are still responsible to make wrongs right. He then asked me if I'd like a refund on what I was overcharged and I informed him that would be the right thing to do. I'm reluctant to give only one star because we do enjoy so many of their employees like Fransisco and Antonio who are phenomenal but sad to say their management and front lines were a big disappointment. read more
