This hotel was irreparably bad, though not much worse than you would expect for a hotel at this…read moreprice point. Its location is bizarre (on a road that barely is a road), and I felt the bed was lumpy. The shower was peeling in places, the carpet was stained, the walls were thin, and the cleaning service was unresponsive. The elevator was broken for a night, and the signage that was on it even when it was functioning was very unnerving. Pros: cheap, not terrible, spacious room, very kind front desk staff. There are nicer, newer hotels in El Centro but the price point is unreasonable; if it's just for a night or two, you couldn't do wrong here (unless you died in an elevator crash, of course).

We get to our room and open it via the card key, AND THE ROOM IS OCCUPIED. The tv is on, clothes all over the floor. We quickly closed the door and returned to the front desk where they apologized and we were given new room keys. With the new keys in hand, we go to the second floor and attempt to open the door to our new room. We try and try and try but the lock won't open, the light doesn't even turn on to say the key has failed. So we go back downstairs to return to the front desk once again to let them know that this door doesn't even open, let alone have guest in it. To which they said, "yeah we forgot that that door is broken." We then get a THIRD set of keys after returning to the front desk for a 3rd time. Finally, we are able to get into a room. The room smells even mustier than the halls. I also found a piece of CHEWED GUM sitting right on top of the nightstand table. How does someone miss that? There was a little card in our room that said it was cleaned by "Miriam" but clearly it wasn't cleaned at all. Shower also looked dirty and paint was chipping off like crazy. In the AM, we let the concierge know about the gum and the check in fiasco and all she said was "sorry, I'll have to tell my manager." Anyways, two stars instead of one because at least the sheets were clean looking, no bed bugs, and the AC was nice and cold. I would not recommend staying here if you can help it.

From the moment you arrive, staff greets you warmly, takes care of valet parking, and helps with your luggage. Check-in was quick and easy, and the staff was always friendly and helpful. During the day, you can choose from three different restaurants. I didn't get a chance to try them all, but I did have breakfast. The food was okay, but the breakfast area is small with limited capacity. I ended up waiting about 40 minutes in the lobby before being seated. That was the only downside. In the evening, I invited some relatives, and we went to the bar. It's small and intimate, and that night they had a gentleman playing the piano. He even played a few of my favorite Luis Miguel songs, which created such an enjoyable atmosphere. Staff at the bar were attentive and made the experience even better. As for the room, it was spotless and very comfortable. Housekeeping did an excellent job, and anytime I needed something, staff responded right away. I've stayed at several hotels in Mexicali, and this one is by far my favorite when visiting family. I definitely look forward to returning!

A woman told me use the cc# for booking online and it would be fine. Came 3 days later by cab, after crossing the border w/ very limited USD, to be told NO. Physical cc only. I had to hand over nearly all my cash, or start walking. Price is up from $45 (late 2017) to $70 for a 8' x 10' room - plus nook for mini fridge/micro, & tiny bathroom. Food spatters in micro, old drink left in fridge, what felt like an old-timey spring mattress. Worn out shower control that requires a lengthy adjustment process to move to right temperature. Two 1970's-quality bath towels, 1 hand towel, 1 washcloth. No bedside lamps for reading and large sized exterior lightbulbs in ceiling without shades. You can't relax with high beams in your face, let alone read. Nightstands below bed height, one considerably low. No place to put clothes, bags. No table to sit at. 1chair up against ac unit. And the cherry on top, a large flying cockroach. In the morning I opened the curtain a few inches for natural light to read by & the maid pressed her face to the glass to peer in. Later she knocked at the door and insisted I go to the office to prepay for the 2nd night, tho' he DOES know I have 2 nights, has my cc # w/ all details, and one usually settles up at checkout... So, an unnecessary and humiliating begging phone call to the office. It's Sunday and he knows he got all my cash. Am waiting on Western Union, but took a moment to write this review. I booked Ca. S. because I had stayed here a few years ago and been pleased. The differences this time were a substantial cost increase (see prices in older reviews) deteriorating condition, cockroach, he didn't stand by the agreement of no physical cc and had me hounded at my room for cash the day before checkout. That makes me think he's pulling a fast one one booking.com Also: Last time I was coming out of Mexico in late Dec. from a month camping on the beach, and a place with no hot water, heat or other fancy stuff. California Suites shone by comparison only.

we were very very very pleased with our visit!…read more The hotel was SPOTLESS and modern, very nice design. The rooms were nice, well designed space, the best features: Microwave, refrigerator, and the soap and conditioner pumps in the shower(so you don't have to ask for five bottles every time you shower), lastly, the availability of baby cribs. The BEST service and what really made this Hotel stay the best was the breakfast. The availability of American foods like, French toast, pancakes, waffles, cereals, pastries, breads, etc was nice but having the Mexican breakfast buffet as well was amazing, chilaquiles, menudo, beans, eggs, etc. this was by far the best breakfast we've had at a hotel. The other half of the star, was the staff, constantly cleaning and taking away dirty plates. My family enjoyed the pool, but noticed there was other services also available, like a gym, laundry room, print center, They also have a 24/7 little store with snacks for purchase. The reception desk was also helpful. (This is where you get your towels for the pool). Next, the location of this hotel, was perfect. It's in a very nice Plaza, with high end restaurants and shops, and for some last night snacks (a 7/11 store). There is parking right in front of the hotel or underground. Lastly, to my embarrassment, about 30 mins after checking out, I realized I had forgotten an item in the room, I called the hotel to explain, and by the time I returned to the hotel, they had nicely packaged up the item and it was waiting for me at the front desk. The staff, the amenities, the food, and the rooms, were perfect. If all hotels are alike Fairfield Mexicali, Marriott has gained a loyal customer.
