I wasn't too sure about this hotel, but I was visiting family in the area and needed somewhere to stay. I was lucky enough to have the wifey with me. I read some reviews, and it seemed ok, so I went ahead and booked a suite. I was very surprised at how nice this hotel was for the price. The suite had a large living room, a working fireplace, and a good-sized balcony. Even the complimentary breakfast was pretty good for what it was. Wifey even said it wasn't too bad. A decent hotel that won't break your budget. This hotel is around the corner from the US-Mexico Border. There is some troubled areas in this town. The Best Western is right on that outskirts of those areas. Luckily, the hotel has fences around the parking lot with cameras watching everything. Be mindful at night as the parking lot is old and near dirt conditions with some lighting. Inside the hotel is what you expect to see. The place has been updated and everything worked in my room. The staff were very nice and accommodating. I guess the only thing that could make the experience better was the breakfast. I travel a little for business. I don't sleep well when I'm away from home, I don't sleep well. I look forward to a hearty breakfast to get me going. The hot breakfast did not have meat. The eggs, biscuits and gravy, potatoes were fine. Seems that missing bacon, sausage or ham affected me deeper that I realized! Overall value is good for this hotel. read more

I could have booked our room online, but I wanted to do it in person so I could negotiate late check-out - which the front desk clerk nicely, and eagerly agreed to. When I book through AMEX, late check-out means 4, sometimes 3. The hotel was nowhere near full. Housekeeping arrived at noon. I explained we had late check-out, then a rude woman at the front desk called and told us we needed to leave in ten minutes, or she would start charging us - in 10-minute increments. We hustled to get out. Had I known the staff at this place was going to treat us like hot garbage, I would have made an issue of 1) no cable TV, no TV period, 2) a fridge that rattled so loudly, we had to unplug it and 3) the bloated dead pigeon floating in the empty planter outside our room, just beyond the HVAC controls. The pullout felt like cotton balls wrapped around plumbing pipe and the blankets were more like fuzzy sheets. I have sweatshirts more comfortable than the cheap pillow provided. Location isn't great. I chose this place because I thought a chain would be worth the higher price if we had amenities and a late check-out. Obviously that wasn't the case. read more

Stayed there 1/23/23. Walked into room, the air unit was sputtering and loud. I had to turn it off to sleep. Fortunately it wasn't hot this time of year. While i was in bed i felt the room vibrate occasionally for about 10-20 seconds and heard a loud grinding sound. I find out it's the elevator. It's difficult to sleep even with ear plugs. On the plus side the room was clean but a bit run down (one toilet bolt was missing and it could turn). The breakfast was also good. Two stars for clean room and good breakfast, but a very noisy room. One last thing: there is a large burned building next door, very ugly. read more

Don't make my mistake. This hotel is unsafe. It is next to a partially burned down building with gang signs spray painted on it. There is no security. The rooms literally reek of cigarette smoke. The rooms are dirty and the carpet is sticky. Horrible facility and very unsafe. read more

BEWARE OF SKETCHY CHARGES ADDED TO YOUR BILL! I called 3 weeks in advance about their pet fee. Over the phone, they stated it was "$25 per night." At the check in, they said it was "$25 per pet, and $25 per night", so they actually charged me $50 for my one dog. The Best Western website clearly states that the maximum charge for pets is $30. I will be filing a formal complaint about this matter. The room we got was renovated; but the cabinetry wouldn't close properly, the door was uneven, and there was painter's tape in the room and in the hallways. There was also construction material in the parking lot that scratched the bottom of my car. I am never staying here again. read more

After the Travel Lodge had closed down, we were looking to find a new hotel to stay at on the multiple trips we take every year to El Centro/Calexico. We've stayed at this Best Western Hotel twice before. Unfortunately, I got sick the night prior before my trip and came back positive with COVID. I reached out to the hotel to ask if could change my dates to a later date instead of a refund and gave them my reasoning, but denied my request. Now get this... I asked the manager of the hotel, if I am still allowed to show up for my reservation even though I am COVID Positive. She replied with "YES, THAT'S OKAY." Can you believe that? I would never in a million years think that Best Western would stoop down to this level to save money and exchange it to put others health at risk. Conviniante location for the area. The reason I did 4 star is because of the carpets in the rooms. And it's not up to the cleaning personnel in the hotel but the management should spend a little and contract a professional carpet cleaning company to clean it well. Or change it, or just do something about it please. It's gross and smells in some rooms. The service is great. All employees are very friendly and ready to help right a way. This is why I can't do 3 stars. 4 star is still great as it hopefully will motivate the management to take a bit more attention on deep cleaning. My family have stayed here a few times before I stayed there on my own while visiting with family. I am hesitant on where to stay when I stay alone. I had no issues staying here on my own. Staff were very welcoming and accommodating. The front desk girls answered any and all questions. My room was great. I had everything I needed and more for the nights I stayed. We have to keep in mind this is a centra border town, so it is not going to look like sunny San Diego. Calexico is on the border. Truckers, travelers, people working, etc. stay at hotels such as these. There is contrition going on which is told to you when you're checking in and are told parking can be difficult. I didn't have an issue. I will be staying there when I visit family. read more

I am going to be specific here. I stayed here on 17SEP2019 and this is the worst BW I have ever stayed at. I only use BW when I travel and have been doing so for years. Listed below are some of the infractions I noted. 1. There is not a 1 to 1 ratio of parking spots to rooms, not including handicap. The new carpet rolls and connexes take up 20% of available parking. Off-site contractors are also taking up 2 parking spots for their vehicles. Someone should tell them 1 spot per vehicle, especially since parking is limited. 2. The pool looks like a swamp creature is going to come out of it. Pools are suppose to be blue or clear, not green. It's summer time. People like to cool down in pools. My pool at home is larger than theirs and for $20.00 a month in chemicals, it's easy to maintain. 3. The foliage surrounding the building is bad. Really, a 30 foot tall dead palm tree to greet customers with. Black plastic where plants and decomposed granite should be. 4. The elevator permit expired 6 months ago and they are still using it. The door for the elevator does not retract when hit or pulled on. I was hit in the shoulder thinking that the door would retract while I went through when it was closing. Placing people in danger for a profit, wow. 5. The furniture in the room is in dis-repair. There was trim missing from the dresser, the nightstand drawer was broken, the curtains are worn out and have a black spot at the top. The bathroom door has a cheesy mirror placed on the inside. There are holes in the wall under the sink. The bathroom tile looks terrible. Someone used floor tiles for the wall, cheap, and did not wipe some of the stucco properly off from the paint. 6. The door, for at least room 213 does not lock when closing. You have to yank-up and slam the door for it to close. Good thing I caught this right away or we could have lost our belongings. 7. There is a wrought iron fence falling over in the parking lot and looks to have been as such for a while. Easy repairs, lazy management. You know, had this been a Motel # or Red R**F inn, I would have expected these kind of accommodations, but not from a BW that charged me a premium rate. If I am ever down in that area again, I will stay at the Motel #. read more

I previously stayed at the Best Western in Calexico and had a wonderful experience. So last night i needed to stay again and went in to get a room my card wouldn't work so the girl said she would take cash... the price for the room was $20 more expensive then last time which was odd. We went and got cash and came back. When i asked why the price online was $86 not $120 she said that's only when you reserve online so i started doing that. But she said i would be charges $100 deposit. So i told My boyfriend to just pay the $120 and we were our call tomorrow customer service in the morning so they could explain. The "manager" "Vic" then became angry and started screaming at me that we were not getting a room and to "get the fuck out of my hotel" and then began calling me names and belittling me. Telling me to get a job... that i don't have money.... that i was ugly.... then went outside to where my boyfriend was in the car and began harassing him telling him "to control your bitch".... the women "Veronica" thought all this was very funny and was laughing behind the counter and saying small remarks under her breath.... this so called manager was not wearing anything to verify who is was. He was dressed in shorts and t shirt and flip flops.... and i don't believe he gave his correct name. Then he proceeded to call the police on me. I am extremely upset by this. I was told there were a lot of seasonal holiday travelers that caused the entire region to be completely booked up! I was searching about 15 miles north in Brawley and they were booked up too. So can't complain when options are limited. For the area, price, value, and friendly service it's not a bad place to return to. Here's what liked... * The hotel is not bad at all. If you're a holiday traveler used to the Hilton or Marriott this is not the place for you. 5 Stars goes to the Manager, Maria! Maria was very professional and communicated well to help solve our issue. The 1 star is for the bugs that we found in our room and the front desk clerk that didn't give 2 sh*ts about our issue. After a family party we decided to play it safe and stay local instead of driving a few hours to get back home late at night. The room had a weird, old smell to it. We thought, "no big deal, it's 1 night let's just get some rest." While we gave our baby a bath; we immediately noticed so many bugs coming out off all the spaces; we thought they were bed bugs. We weren't even in the room longer than 45 minutes because we didn't feel comfortable sleeping here with these bugs all over the room, especially, with our our baby in a crib so we decided to check out and ask for a refund. The female at the front desk told us that it's not bed bugs without looking at our pictures. She indicated that it's normal in Calexico and that we will find these bugs anywhere we stay so there's nothing she can do. We asked for the manager's name and continued to check out. We ended up driving home, unfortunately. NEVER AGAIN! Once we spoke to Maria, she was apologetic and helped us get our refund for the room. THANK YOU MARIA!!! read more

This place has been redone inside with new carpets but the mattress was old so they put 2 mattress pads on it to try to soften it but it was still hard as a rock.. For being a relatively new building, the owners should really consider maintaining this hotel better. I haven't even checked out yet but I'm so exasperated that I'm already writing a yelp review. First of all, while the hotel does have internet service, it's not wireless. C'mon guys, it's 2011, set up a router for crying out loud. Oh, and if it's going to be wired, leave an ethernet cable in the room or at least ensure the ethernet jack in the wall is functional. I had to borrow an ethernet cable from the front desk, only to return to my room to find the a pointless gap behind the jack plate on the wall --that's just ridiculous! I changed rooms due to the internet issue. Room #2 appeared to have a somewhat more modern television set but it didn't work very well. The picture was so dark it was nearly impossible to view. I attempted to adjust the screen settings only to realize the remote was a universal remote not intended for the television. I was relieved to find the television was old enough that it still had function buttons on the faceplate, however these were so worn down and non functioning that the buttons didn't work consistently for their function (i.e. nearly every button would occasionally work as the power button and shut off the tv altogether). I finally just gave up. The hotel does have some redeeming qualities however: The hotel staff is friendly and competent (I hope they are better treated than the property is) and the fitness room appears to be rather nice - though I haven't tried the machines yet and am skeptical that the machines will work well given the other two incidents. I'm here on business and this will likely be my home all of next week - if I wasn't trying to drum up Best Western Rewards Points, I wouldn't return at all - in fact I may just go to the El Centro location and face a longer drive every day. **Update** I've upgraded the score from one to two stars based on the hotels complimentary breakfast being better than I've had at some other places (not the greatest, but it did earn some bonus points for having multiple juices, pastries and hot food including omelets and sausage) and based on the fitness room working out better than I expected (no pun intended). If I actually manage to get a room that is fully functional during my stay next week (i.e. internet, television, fridge and microwave), I may even upgrade them to three stars...but I still wouldn't bet on it. read more

This place charges $2 for a bottle of water but doesn't give you breakfast. I got a 430am wake up call that I did not order. The shower would not drain. When I informed the staff nothing did not even offer to send someone to fix the tub. So my wife had to stand in ankle depth tepid dirty water to take a shower. Made reservations for 2 nights and wanted to stay an additional night so I just went down to front desk and was setup for the night in about a minute. She was friendly and professional. Didn't catch the ladys name but she gave me an additional discount on top of my AAA 10% for the extra night. On one morning I went down for breakfast just before 9 (brkfst is from 6-9am) and there was hardly anything there but within 5 minutes or so they brought out some hot fresh omelettes and sausage. They also have pastries, yogurts, juices, etc. Room was clean like in my prior stay there. Will definitely go back when having to stay in the area. Theatre, applebees, and retail stores within walking distance. Like other reviewer said this is probably the nicer hotel in town other than maybe the holiday inn express down the street, but im a BW rewards member. read more

Nice hotel for Calexico. They do have wireless internet and Ethernet if u rather use a cable. Rooms are clean and the maid staff do a good job. Overall the staff is nice and helpful. Breakfast is good. They have omelets, sausage, danish, muffins, cereals, make ur own omelets, juices, coffee. We attended an event in Mexicali, and booked our overnight at this Hotel. I was not that familiar with Mexicali so I asked Marisol at the front desk for help. She was incredibly accommodating and very knowledgeable. We had the "grand suites"...they were nothing grand and nothing suite. We needed a roll away bed and also used the sofa bed and those were horrible. The people who slept there basically didn't sleep all night. The breakfast here is bad. Very bad. Eggs bacon and potatoes are the "hot option". Do not choose the hot option. It's not real food. Tastes like frozen plastic barely thawed and warmed up slightly. The pastries are also rubbery. They have instant oatmeal and cereal and packaged yogurt. You're better off eating that. They have 3 different juices and coffee as well. Coffee at least was strong! Oh, and the elevator was broken. Our rooms were on the 2nd and 3rd floor. The stairs are an oven. No a/c in the lobby or hallways. It was a nightmare walking up and down those stairs in such a heat. We made a stop here in the middle of the night on our way to Mexico for our summer vacation and it was the only hotel with rooms ‍. We're glad to be moving along our trip and leaving this place behind. Next time we make this trip we'll be booking our hotel ahead of time at a better chain. read more
