I paid somewhere prepaid between 53-59 Euros a night for a single room meant for 1 person. Excellent value in this part of Rome.
Pros-
- $$$$ for the location- 2 subway stops from Termini- although many reviews on Tripadvisor said that they walked everyone and never took public transportation, I did a mix of both. It may take you slightly longer to wait for a bus instead of walking but honestly, my feet hurt so much that it was worth the 5-10 extra minutes! You can get a day pass for public transportation for 6 Euros. The passes now expire by the hour versus the day which was better for me.
- fantastic continental breakfast (awful cappuccinos though) of different pastries, fruits, individual yogurt cups, cereals, toast, meats, and cheeses
- great water pressure in the shower
- strong wifi
- elevator
- staff was helpful if you were the one making requests or asking questions (they made all my requests but I did have to request them such as getting a yogurt earlier due to being on an early morning tour and having them hold my suitcase after check out)
- there's a grocery store a 2 minute walk away
- a few not as touristy restaurants on the same street
Cons-
- even though the single efficiency room had a toilet and sink in the room, the shower is down the hall. It's for the use of whoever reserved that room, but the housekeeping staff uses it also for hanging their linens which was a bit strange to me.
-Wifi was a bit of a pain to long in with as it was time consuming
When I go back to Rome (this was my 2nd trip and I still missed out on some things that I wanted to see), I would consider going back to Hotel Julia. I just wished that there was a little cooler or fridge in the room. As much as I liked the hotel if I found a hotel nearby that for maybe 10 Euros more a night had the fridge, I would probably choose that hotel over Julia. I would easily recommend to others though.
Update: (not changing score based on this though). Apparently for some bizarre reason I got that room really cheap and it was the beginning of the high season. I don't think the exact room type I got (listed as economy single with a private toilet and private bathroom down the hall- no air conditioning) is available at all anymore. While I would never go to Italy in the summer in a room without AC, I was there in early Spring and didn't need it. The similar rooms available now appear to be the single room with shared toilet and bathroom (I did the hostel thing in my 20s, cannot share toilets in a hotel anymore!), or the single room with private everything and AC (the most comparable to mine but a bit more expensive). I wonder what happened to the room I got. read more
