Mecenate had an excellent location. Walking distance from trains and subway but also the coliseum and Palatines. Accommodations were comfortable and staff friendly. Breakfast was delicious and varied. They had a terrace bar/restaurant with an amazing view onto st Mary Maggiore Basilica but make sure you have reservations for the evening if you want to eat there with a view. They also have a rooftop bar. Drinks are €15. The only negatives were that their WiFi was really weak in our bedroom, there were few outlets and the front desk staff could really use some training in politeness and courtes read more

I am mixed about this review because the kitchen and porter staff were helpful and friendly but the front desk staff were less so. When I checked in the front desk staff was not welcoming and told me nothing about the hotel amenities such as the hours for the lounge or the included breakfast. When I got to my room there was no information about the hotel or rooftop restaurant or anything else. Nata. About the double room with city views on the 5th floor. The room was small which was expected and the bathroom was really tight. The rugs and wallpaper were stained, the bathroom hardware was crusty and my towel had a hole in it! While I totally respect the historical decor of the hotel with a beautiful lobby and rooftop dining, the guest rooms need some love. I can't imagine how they achieve a 4 star status. I've stayed here a couple of times over the years. Check in was easy, as was check out ( city tax was 7.50 euro). Lovely hotel, I get a single room so it's small, but has everything I need. I was here in early May and it was quite warm during day and quite cool at night. I've gotten the same room both times I stayed here and it has a small balcony and I keep the doors open because I enjoy the fresh air. I like it icy cold at night so it works well for me. Room had a button for AC but it didn't seem to work, or I wasn't using it correctly or perhaps it was too early in the season to have AC on. I love the rooftop bar which overlooks the beautiful church across the road. Breakfast is awesome. Cheeses, fruits, scrambled eggs, meats, yogurt, cereal, cakes etc. served on the rooftop. I love the old world charm of this hotel, and I like the grittiness of staying near Termini(7 minute walk away). I'll definitely be back. read more

Perfect! You never know exactly what you are going to get with a Hotel. This was my first trip to Rome and I researched, looked at reviews, and took a chance. When I got to my room and opened the shutters, I was literally blown away. The view was priceless. The clerk at the desk had put the "upgrade" squeeze on me and I bit! I have no way of knowing if this was already my room but, I don't care. As you may know, everything including hotel rooms trends smaller in Europe. Space is at a premium but usually, it's well designed and very efficient. I had just arrived and checked in after an 8-hour flight from Dallas. I think by this time I'd been up 11 hours and with the time change, I was tired but excited to be in Rome. After entering my room the initial assessment was small but superb. However, that changed to Fantastic when I opened the shutters and saw the Basilica across the street! Basilica Papale di Santa Maria Maggiore! One of four major Papal Basilicas. And I was looking out my window right at it! I can't say enough good things about this quaint hotel. The location is perfect,staff excellent! Elevator litterally held me and my suitcase, and went at a snails pace. Welcome to Rome! read more

We stayed here in January 2019. This is the place to stay in Rome. This hotel is located right by Basilica Papale di Santa Maria Maggiore and our room had a beautiful view of it. When we walked into the room and saw the view, we were completely blown away. Absolutely stunning views. The hotel is clean, the staff is professional and friendly. The breakfast was great, they have a wide variety of food to choose from, including grilled vegetables. They make your hot drink (tea/coffee) for you as they have a small coffee bar in the corner of the breakfast area. The breakfast room is surrounded with windows and we had seagulls every morning visiting the window sills. After the breakfast, I always had a hot latte and it was consistently delicious. The hotel is located a few minutes walking from the Termini Station (the central train/subway station). My favorite hotel in Rome. read more

A nice hotel near Basillica de Maria Maggiore that had rooftop dining and included breakfast. Some of the front desk staff could be nicer but overall it was a clean hotel that was close to attractions and a short walk to restaurants. Great location in terms of being close to a subway station but not many cute, trendy restaurants nearby that millenials are looking for. But that's besides the point and what the subway is for! As for the hotel, we had a great stay. We booked the newly renovated "executive suite" and it was great. We could control the air conditioning however we wanted. This was KEY in the middle of July. The shower pressure was perfect and the bathroom was large and clean. We didn't care for the continental breakfast (probably doesn't help we were coming from a villa in San Gimignano...) but the room was good for our needs. Would recommend to others. read more

For my first time traveing to Italy and staying in Rome, I wanted to stay at a hotel that would be central to everything in Roma, include breakfast, and have a clean and comfortable room. Mecenate Palace Hotel is all that and so much more. We got a room with a view of the Basilica Santa Maria Maggiore and it was phenomenal. The windows are huge and allow for fresh air to enter your room. Our bathroom included two sinks and a big tub/shower with a towel warmer (loved that!). There was a smal fridge with wine and drinks (at an additional charge). The instant tea pot was fast and convenient for making coffee and tea in your room. The Roma Termini is within walking distance from the hotel and we also walked to the Colosseum twice. Our stay included daily breakfast (which we took full advantage of) and the servers were always gracious and attentive. I will be back here during my next stay in Rome! By far my favorite hotel in italy so far (my 3rd hotel) The staff is absolutely wonderful. They've been helpful and friendly in all aspects of the hotel, from the lobby to the rooftop bar. The food is good, I prefer the simple lunch food over the fancier dinner rooftop food. The breakfast was delicious, wide selection of food and drink. The decor is lovely, I'm not a huge fan of the green but it works with the theme they went for. The rooms were really nice and spacious enough to be comfortable. The bed and pillows were the comfiest I've had here in Italy as well. Quick walk from the train station(maybe 10/15 minutes? We did it in 8, it was down pouring) Great views from the roof. If you ask the front desk to call a cab for you, the wait is no more than 3 minutes. When we came back from being out all day the receptionist remembered us each time and had our key ready to go. Drawbacks: Wifi stopped working our second day here and still wasn't up when we left. Our tub wouldn't drain well. My sister's room had a semi broken hair dryer where it would turn off during use and not turn back on till it was cold. read more

Perfect combination of location, price, service and quality. We stayed here recently and were impressed by the quality of the hotel. We got a great rate and didn't expect too much for this. But we got a terrific location, a beautiful room, and service which we have only seen in hotels twice this price. The hotel has a fantastic rooftop restaurant that overlooks S Marie Basilica. The sunrises and sunsets are stunning from up there. And the free breakfast that was included in the rate was top notch with eggs, meats, fruits, pastries and every type of coffee served. The hotel is just 5 minutes down the street from the main train station (Termjni) too, so getting anywhere is a breeze. There are a number of restaurants and grocery stores right beside or across the street if you need anything. Finally, the Wi-Fi was very fast and we stayed connected the whole time. My mom and I stayed at Mecenate Palace when visiting Rome for a few days. Overall, we had a pretty good experience. The front desk staff was helpful and always willing to help out whenever we had a question. They were always friendly and made several suggestions for the best ways to see the city. The hotel has two different sides. The main side, where the front desk is located, is a bit more standard of a hotel you'll find in Italy. It's not dated, but it's not quite as modern. The rooftop restaurant is over on that side. My mom and I stayed most of our nights in a room on this side and had little complaints. We could look out our window and see Santa Maria Maggiore out the window. It was great listening to the bells at night and be able to overlook the plaza and watch people coming and going. The other side of the hotel, where we stayed our first night, is much more modern. The rooms are slightly smaller and are all connected through an outside terrace area. These rooms are accessed by leaving the main hotel, walking down a few doors, and up a flight of stairs. The one thing that impacted our stay is that we specifically chose this hotel for the fact they had an elevator since my mom has bad knees and stairs are difficult for her. The first night we were quite disappointed to find ourselves up a long flight of stairs which my mom struggled to get up. The hotel didn't have any other rooms available, so we made it work. The next day, however, they moved us to the other side for a room accessible by elevator. They were as accommodating as possible and had a bellhop move our bags between rooms for us while we were out sightseeing. It was a smooth transition between the rooms. The only disappointment left for us is that the hotel restaurant is on the rooftop and the elevator stopped about 2 floors below the restaurant level. Thus, my mom had to take the stairs slowly to and from breakfast each morning to take advantage of the free breakfast. The breakfast itself every morning was ok. In the about 4 mornings we ate there, there was no variety in the breakfast. The servers were frequently quite busy and it took a while to get drinks to the tables. One morning we had to wait for a table to become available. The food offered was good, but the pastries were a bit disappointing. The location within Rome was great and had quick access to several sights, a sightseeing bus stop, and was on a main traffic circle so you could get transportation easy. Also, staying right by a major church in the city was a great way to be sure you can find your way back to the hotel! It's a pretty good place to stay if this is the area of Rome you want to be in! read more

My family stayed at Mecenate Palace Hotel on our last leg of our European Vacation. After staying in 3 other hotels in 3 other cities, this one was very nice! The front desk man greeted us and knew exactly who we were the instant we walked in the door! He was courteous and gave us plenty of information and even a discount on the restaurant upstairs so we can have a late dinner. The rooms are spacious and clean and have very large bathrooms! Not what we were expecting for Rome, so we were very pleasantly surprised! This hotel is within walking distance to the Colosseum and the Forum and just steps away from the underground. The hotel arranged our transportation from the airport upon our arrival and our departure with no problems at all. Also, make sure to take part in the daily complimentary breakfast that is offered on the rooftop every day, it is worth it. Plus they offer for a small extra charge cooked to order eggs and varied meats. Very tasty! We stayed there a week, and had a very pleasant stay. Thank you Mecenate Palace Hotel! read more

Located across from the Santa Maria Maggiore just 5 min from the Termini station, this hotel was perfect for our 3 day stay in Rome. I was wearily at first of staying near the station (heard it's not the best location) but the hotel staff was super friendly and the room was really nice. The hotel is located on the corner of two major streets (i.e. easy to find) and 15-20 mins walk from all the major Rome attractions (colosseum, trevi fountain, pantheon, Spanish steps). If you plan on going to the Vatican or Trastevere (which I highly recommend) it's a good 45 min walk but you can always jump on a bus or cab so not really a problem. The hotel has 2 sides. The main building which has the lobby and the rooftop restaurant, and the other side which is located down the street. That's where we stayed. The room was very modern and spacious but the bathroom was kinda small (the bathroom was pretty standard for Europe but compared to how big the room is the bathroom felt small). The free breakfast on the rooftop restaurant was great and even though the hotel is located on a major street, it was quiet at night. Overall I was very pleased with our stay and would recommend this place to my yelp friends (this place is also very highly rated on Trip Advisor). read more

We booked this hotel last minute for one night. It was in a great location and was clean and comfortable. The staff was pleasant and very accommodating. We arrived very late and had to have our bags held the next day -- we were able to print tickets, etc. from the lobby computer. In room wi-fi and free breakfast were a bonus! read more

Do not eat at this hotel's roof top restaurant. Over priced, horrible service, the plates look horrible, chipped and old. We waited 45 mins for our meal. Plate presentation was so bad like someone who did not care at all. One dish was described to have arugula and parmigiana it had neither. We asked the waiter about this and the chef came over. Then he shouted at us and never said he was sorry. For €25 that was totally not worth the table side abuse. The chef was standing at the coffee bar the from the time we arrived. My dish was not cleaned it had drops of sauce all over the place. A mess ! Staff were talking about their schedules loudly right behind my head. We could not wait to get out of there. €160 for dinner was a joke! Don't go there ever! You have been warned. read more

Currently staying with family for our second night of three here at the Mecenate while visiting Rome. Overall, mixed experience, hotel is lovely, rooms nice size for city establishment, and breakfast was a pleasent buffet this morning. Initial check in was concerning with the front clerk in a lengthy discussion with a patron over excess rooms charges and simply saving there nothing that could be done. Later after when I requested to have the alcohol removed from my children's room he said he could not, so no lock and supplying spirits, beer and wine to minors seem to be a hotel policy. Seems like it was the front desk clerks that may have been of concern, until trying to go to dinner that evening. 6PM, 1 other couple in the rooftop restaurant, but no available tables outside. Spoke with the evening desk Clark as how to reserved seats, he let me know "R" (not sure if Ramon) in the restaurant, who had just sent us away, did the reserving. Again unable to help and unsure how the departments work together. Wonderful day sightseeing and was out late on the hotel stoop having gelato with my daughter when the evening assistant open the window in the closed pub area and hit the window to shoo us away; seemed surprised when I came into the hotel rooms right after. I am very impressed by the staff's multilingual abilities; has made communication accessible. As I mentioned earlier a mixed experience, but I partially judge after having many years working in hotels and knowing what makes the overall difference. read more

Overlooking the Basilica of Santa Maria Maggiore, this hotel is ideally situated for Termini station and the city tour bus. Its right accross the road from a good supermarket and the metro is at the end of the street. The room was great and the air conditioning was spot on. The staff were so nice and were really helpful when I jammed the in room safe. The best thing was the breakfast room on the roof. What a view of Rome! In the morning, just watching the city come to live was breathtaking. the restaurant next door was excellent, we had quite a few evening meals there watching the world go by in the piazza.
