We enjoyed staying at this hotel quite a bit and had no problems whatsoever. It is close to the Roma Termani train station and as others have mentioned, very convenient to a number of spots around town within walking distance and great shopping. Our room was a decent size (European hotels typically have pretty small rooms) and was quite clean and nicely decorated. The room came with a free breakfast, which compared to a lot of US hotel free breakfasts, was quite good. The staff was very friendly and they even held some of our bags for a night for no charge while we made a quick trip to Venice. I would have no qualms staying here again. read more

Excellent service from arrival to departure. We arrived early for our reservations, although our room wasn't available until later. The staff took care of our luggage and let us freshen up from our travels. When we got back to the hotel, our room was ready and our luggage was already in our room. They have an awesome breakfast buffet every morning and a full bar for the evenings. The staff were very friendly and accommodating. It's a 3.5 stars. The location is great! 10 min walk from Roma Termini. 16 walk to Trevi Fountain. Someone is at the front desk 24/7. Friendly staff. Room has all the basic amenities. Bathrobes and slippers are provided. I like the electric kettle to make hot water/tea in the room. The water in the shower is hot. Breakfast is included. Nothing fancy, Con: The toilet flush is loud and you need to press it several times to flush. It's a small room, so you can hear it even with the door close. Mold in the shower. Our beds are next the stairs and you can hear people going up and down. Weird noise at night. Overall, it's not a bad stay, since we were out most of the day exploring. read more

We really enjoyed our stay at Hotel Mascagni! It's about a 10 minute walk from the bullet train station which wasn't bad with our bags - sidewalks the whole way. It is located on a busy street but it was hard NOT to find a busy street in Rome. Our bed was really comfortable and we loved the robes and slippers! We didn't really like the breakfast compared to other hotels we stayed in but there's a cute cafe right around the corner we stopped by. I will warn you - this hotel is about a 45 minute walk to the Vatican and honestly I lost track how far everything was. We walked 12-15 miles a DAY in Rome so I would recommend taking a cab when you can. Clean rooms, friendly staff and good proximity to the train station but really far from the sights. read more

This is a boutique hotel located in an office building. You have to walk out of the lobby and enter another hot and humid entrance to go to your room. It has one sad old elevator. The rooms were mediocre. The A/C was not turned on so I had to turn it on and wait for the room to cool down. The bathroom had a sewer smell and has painted concrete floors. The shower was not very clean. The corners were disgusting. I found the staff to be super rude. They speak in Italian to talk about you. They are not very nice to Americans. There is no soundproof what so ever. You can hear everyone in the hallway. My room was located directly across the breakfast room. I was woken up by the sound of plates every morning. The breakfast wasn't all that. Not to mention the staff messed up putting luggage in the wrong rooms and we had to look for them. I absolutely DO NOT recommend this hotel. The hotel is located in a good location to the train station. I don't even know where to start. First morning after our late arrival the house keeper entered our room without knocking on the door very early. The rooms are not well cleaned. There were hairs found in the bathroom apparently from the previous guests. When we checked in the first night we're never told to leave the keys to our room at the front desk every time we exited the hotel. Comes to the third night when we returned to the hotel after a long day and we're stopped by the old gentleman at front desk with a loud rude voice "hey, hey!!!" Where are you guys going? While he was checking in to the hotel other guests. We were being questioned Very disrespectful. He was asking what was our room number and where were the keys to our room. I answered his question and then he answered , "you need to leave the keys to your room at the front desk every time you guys leave the hotel!" Now by this time I answered rudely, " it's been two nights that we have been here and no one has asked for the keys. He just ignored me and continued helping the guests. Now at checkout time after paying for our stay, we were charged extra. They told us it was city taxes. We had to pay certain amount of euros for each person in our party and for each night we stayed there. Are you kidding me!!!! I don't know how can I rate or even recommend this hotel. read more

We stayed 5 nights at this lovely hotel. It's centrally located to all the tourist hotspots a " new to Rome" person would want to see; all within walking distance. The rooms are neat and the beds are very comfortable. The service was spot on ; everything from drinks at happy hour to their laundry service. Daniele and Viktoriya were a great resources of knowledge about the area and what to see! Plus they make a fabulous Aperol Spritz! I just stayed here for 3 nights and let me start by saying that the service is magnificent. Gabrielle at the front desk is so nice, genuine and caring. He helped us throughout our stay and when we needed to get places. I won't forget his famous saying of "no key no light". Hilarious. This is a boutique hotel in the heart of Rome. Literally walking distance to everything but the Vatican. That would be an hour walk if you're up for it. The breakfast was included in our stay and the coffee is one of the best I've had yet. Everyone treats you great here. And the room service is up to par. When I travel to Rome again I would stay here. Oh and right next door there is a small convenient store/grocery store that has everything you could possibly forget to pack. I know some people said that they got their stuff stolen but we were fine throughout our stay. There is a sign in the room that says they are not responsible for anything left outside the safe and the safe is big enough to fit a lot of stuff. Hope you pick this place to stay! If I could leave no stars I would! My fiancé & I booked through Costco travel every other destination was AMAZING but this one. Upon arrival staff aren't the friendliest. Was told we needed to leave our room key when leaving the hotel every time, upon arriving to our room there is a note for guest saying "if any items are stolen or gone missing hotel is not responsible." This hotel was perfect for our 5 night stay! We were surprised with how big the room actually was after reading reviews that said the rooms were small. Everything was within walking distance and if we didn't want to walk, there was a Metro station right down the road. The staff was all very friendly and spoke very good English. They ask you to turn your room keys in when you left each day, which I actually liked! This way, they always knew when we were in our room or not and I didn't have to worry about keeping track of our room key. My only complaint was that the a/c wasn't the greatest but we were also there while it was still cold on some days so I know the hotel had the heat on most days. We would open the windows at night and it would cool the room right off. After the first night of doing this, the housekeeper would open our windows each time she came to clean our room. We would definitely stay here again if we make it back to Rome! read more

Just enjoy being in a good location in Rome. Be aware every hotel has a different city tax that you have to pay when checking out so you might want to ask before you book your stay. We were only in Rome for 2 days and this hotel was very convenient to the train station upon our arrival from Florence. The front desk staff was very nice and helped us get orientated when we arrived. We did not spend much time in our room as there was so much to see in such a short time. One of the bus tour stops was close by so we did that first to get an overview of the city before hopping off to wonder at the Arch of Constantine, Colosseum and the Palantine Hill. The hotel is clean, the staff were very friendly and speaks great English. I felt very comfortable here. The AC was cold enough on very hot summer days. We stayed for 3 nights and everything was perfect. The little balcony was actually a very nice touch to the room. We were 3 adults in the room and there were enough outlets to use. The toilet seat was broken and was repaired right away after I informed the desk. The breakfast was superb with everything we needed plus the hot chocolate was my favorite. It was about 20 minute walk to Fountain of Trevi. There is a Carrefour Express just next door if we needed water to take around during the day. I like that they ask you to leave the key at the desk when you walk out. I don't have to keep track of it and no opportunity to lose it. I also like that you have to plug the key in the room to turn lights on. Therefore, when you leave all lights turn off. Good for saving electricity. I would definitely stay here again if I am given an opportunity to return to Rome. read more

Small room, indifferent service, insipid breakfast with few choices, not much to recommend.

Hotel was a disappointment and I cannot recommend to others nor expect to return here myself. I understand there are differences in the experience and expectations when comparing an American to European hotel room and expect that the hotels and rooms traditionally are always smaller. That being said, I will start with the Pros: for Mascagni: Location is fairly close to many of Roman tourist spots, The front desk staff is extremely nice/helpful (albeit somewhat understaffed). That's pretty much where it ends. Cons: The hotel itself is not Modern. It is dated, smaller than it appears per the website photos, the air conditioning is set on "struggle" no matter how much you adjust the thermostat. The rug/carpet is outdated and the bed... down right the hardest bed I have ever slept in, in all my hotel travels. I can not emphasize enough, it was the worst. The bedding provided is clean but again very dated. I was simply not comfortable at all, it reminded me of that of a hospital bed and really made it difficult to get rest after a long day out in the city. There are at best two electrical outlets in the room, making it extremely hard to plug and charge any of your electronic devices. There are no irons or ironing boards provided (you can request one but are asked to use the iron on the 4th floor). There are no face towels provided, at all, bring your own if you need them because a hand and bath towel is about all you are going to get! The Free wifi provided by the hotel is horribly spotty when connecting through the hotel and extremely slow speeds even with a strong signal. The complimentary breakfast buffet?.... (Umm yea... I wont go there). Lastly, I found it extremely odd that the hotel still uses traditional physical keys and requires that you check the keys in and out from the front desk every time you leave and return to the property. read more

I don't post on Yelp too often, so if I've taken the time to write a review it must be pretty important. DO NOT STAY HERE. Similar to another reviewer's comments, I understand European hotels should not be compared to American hotels to be fair, but this hotel was terrible. Hands down the worst hotel I have EVER stayed at. - The pictures don't look anything like the actual hotel. This is incredibly misleading. - The hotel and the rooms are tiny and very old/out of date. - The whole process of using actual room keys and leaving them with the front desk made us very uncomfortable. - The front desk was rude and not friendly (maybe because they were understaffed and very busy). - The beds are so hard, it feels like you are sleeping on the floor. - The bedding is not plush and smelled bad. - There was no extra blankets or pillows provided when asked. The cherry on top is my credit card was charged TWICE for my room reservation. Two weeks later I am still seeking a refund. Everytime I seek a refund, the excuse from the hotel is "Sorry, your credit card was already charged for the fees." It's called a refund! Since when is it okay to charge someone's card twice for the same stay and refuse to give them their money back. Long story short, there are a ton of better options that this place that will rob you. read more

We (a family of 4, consisting of 2 adults and 2 children) stayed at this hotel pre- and post-cruise. We couldn't have asked for a better hotel. The staff is exemplary -- super friendly and helpful. Roberta at the front desk was invaluable. The hotel is centrally located, a mere 3-minutes walk to Metro Repubblica. Everything is well appointed and clean. For our first stay, we were in a standard family room. It was quite spacious with a nice view of the streets and the hotel across the road. When the door is closed, you could barely hear any street noise. Our kids enjoyed having the view, seeing all the passersby in the morning. For our second stay, we were upgraded to a newly renovated suite. This suite is by far the best place we've stayed in. All the furnishings were modern and one of the two bathrooms is wall to wall marble! Wow! We thoroughly enjoyed eating breakfasts in the Breakfast Room. Guiseppe and Serena ran the place with precision clockwork. They worked hard to ensure all the guests were happy with their breakfasts. They also worked hard to ensure that the room was in pristine condition, that the tablecloths were neat and straight. I loved having my cappuccinos in the morning, brewed to perfection. They ensured my daughter had enough Gluten Free items for her breakfasts as well. This was highly appreciated!!! I would highly recommend this hotel to anyone. Stayed here for 4 nights. The first room they gave us was a bit small with not a lot of room to move around. We asked for another room and the staff was very accommodating. Our new room was not much bigger but we had more room to move about (most rooms we stayed in Europe were actually small compared to American hotels). The complimentary continental style breakfast was pretty good and service was excellent. The staff was very friendly and spoke English well. They gave us some good tips about visiting the Vatican, some popular and other not so popular places to see, and how to get around using the public transportation. read more
