The machinery next to room 9 that makes it impossible to sleep at The Donaldson in Fargo, ND

Great hotel, clean and new, with comfortable bed, great shower, nice service and free coffee and pastries. Perfect location in Fargo with tons of food options within one block. BUT don't let them put you in Room 9. Machinery in the wall next to bed runs til 2:30 AM and is impossible to sleep through even with a white noise app.

Cute place! Their restaurant was under renovation so we did not get to eat there but we did stay in single king bed for a night. Room 8 was designed by a photography. It was very white and like a museum. We quite liked it. They have a complimentary wine and cheese hour and a truffle during a turndown service. Both were very fun a delicious. They have a breakfast that if we are planning to hit the road early - just ask and they can give it to you a bit early. All portions are in plastic wrap and easy to take on the road/back to your room.

We weren't forwarned that our room, #1 was above a club that had a blaring DJ and music that lasted until after midnight. I tried calling the front desk, twice. No answer. There were fake fingernails embedded in the carpet, and one in the bathroom. Just gross/disgusting!! Has me wonder what else may be in the carpet. Reached out to the manager via email yesterday, have not heard back about the absurd charge for a room that was clearly not worth the price. The best thing was the valet service, but that was a separate charge. Won't stay again.

I am not sure I can say anything about HoDo - Hotel Donaldson - that has not already been said, but we've had such a great experience that I'd like to try. We came to Fargo to celebrate our anniversary by taking in a Bison football game and staying in this luxurious boutique hotel for the weekend. We've stayed in Fargo before (our daughter attended NDSU) but never at Hotel Donaldson. I am so glad we decided to do a CFB weekend for this anniversary. The Bison win and this hotel made it so worth it. HoDo has an industrial chic vibe, with each guest room decorated with original paintings by regional artists. We stayed in the Big Dog suite (this is a dog friendly hotel so that may explain the name, not sure). If you are coming to Fargo and have the chance to stay in this hotel DO SO. There are a lot of hotels in and around Fargo, many chains from budget to mid-range, but HoDo is truly unique. The building it is in has a really interesting history. The conversion to a boutique hotel was done extremely well. This place is exclusive, in part due to its size - only 18 rooms. The Big Dog suite, room 10, is a 1.5 bathroom, 1 bedroom space with high wood clad ceilings, hardwood floors, comfortable custom furniture and a plush king sized bed. The hotel is in a busy, energetic part of downtown but we still slept great in the well appointed and very comfortable soft-mattressed bed. The main bathroom is also a treat. Bring your bath bomb or salts for the 2 person, jetted soaking tub. Plan to linger in the large rainfall shower with a separate handheld head. Plush robes and bath towels and Aveda bathing and haircare products. Kind, friendly, competent staff. Turndown service with housemade chocolate truffles (sublime) plus a unique and special touch - a CD softly playing on the bedside Bose player featuring regional artists. Ours was Deb Jenkins who I'd never heard of but really enjoyed and now plan to buy/stream! This place is a jewel in otherwise unassuming Fargo among a sea of typical mass market chain hotels. Room 10, the suite, is big, beautifully sophisticated, and romantically chic. I can't wait to come back.

Just one part of the spacious room.

I was beyond impressed with my stay at the Donaldson. The minute you walk in, you can tell this isn't your typical hotel. The rooms are extremely spacious, the inviting lobby is inviting, the food at the restaurant is delicious, and the staff went above and beyond for any need that I had. I could not have had a better experience. The location is absolutely perfect - beautiful shops and places to eat right outside and it's super close to the airport. This is a place I will most definitely visit again.

This hotel is absolutely amazing! The bed was very comfy & the room was very clean! The hotel has unique art all around. There is a hot tub on the roof top which has amazing views! I lived this hotel because it felt so cozy. I didn't even feel like I was at a hotel. The room service was also good! The food was amazing! I know that I will be staying here from now on! It's conveniently located, with lots of food places to choose from & bars to walk too.

It was a wise choice. This is a favorite hotel for us. The "log cabin-ish" theme carries throughout, with extra focus/ detail on the themed suites. (My only complaint on the top-tier suites is that they're right at the top of the stairs and people LOVE thumping up and down them, loudly. We went with the room category down, which still has a separate whirlpool that's not in the restroom though it doesn't have a TV & fireplace specifically for said whirlpool. A fair sacrifice for a quiet room. The room was clean and spacious, with woodland creature adornments (moosetrack room). Breakfast was not worth stopping for. One pan of hot items, apples, and sweet stuff - even the blueberries were sweetened. (If you're there for the evening reception, that's definitely worth attending.) There were ample towels & outlets. It came it right at $150 after taxes/fees. We slept well & woke up refreshed, ready for our long drive.

When I arrived, the person at the front desk noticed my cat and then told me I could no longer stay there because they are pet friendly...only to dogs. When I expressed that this was literally nowhere in the policy I read, the girl shrugged and told me it was because we booked third party and gave me an excuse that there had been an incident with a cat recently, but took no responsibility for the third party website having outdated information, and did not offer to help me find other accommodations or compensate me in any way. Very stressful experience with a rude employee.

This Fargo gem (tied to Drekker Brewing) is less "hotel" and more "glorified adult playground with beds upstairs." Every room is themed around one of Drekker's beers--think murals, wild labels, and enough personality that your standard beige chain-hotel room starts looking like a beige cry for help. Cool themes? Check. You're basically sleeping inside a can of something hoppy and slightly unhinged. The craft beer situation is ridiculous in the best way. Walk downstairs (or just wander the complex) and you're swimming in Drekker's lineup--sours, IPAs, whatever experimental wizardry they're pouring that day. Free taster at check-in seals the deal: most hotels give you a stale cookie; these people hand you actual beer. Priorities, people. The hangout areas are spacious and actually usable. No awkward lobby chairs that look like they were designed by someone who hates sitting. Instead you've got open floors, cozy nooks, outdoor spots, and enough breathing room that you can properly settle in with a pint without feeling like you're in a waiting room. Add a fleet of pinball machines scattered around (dozens, according to the devotees), and suddenly "just one more game" becomes a legitimate evening plan. Flippers, beer, good vibes--the holy trinity. Food options keep the party going. The on-site market/hall throws down real variety--pizza, burgers, noodles, bakery stuff, raw bar bits, coffee, the works--so you never have to leave the compound if you don't want to. It's the rare hotel where "room service" is just walking downstairs and not being disappointed. Witty verdict: Brewhalla doesn't do "quiet luxury." It does "loud, beer-soaked, pinball-clacking joy with a roof over your head." If your idea of a perfect stay involves themes that slap, taps that never quit, space to actually hang, and zero risk of boredom, this place is basically cheating. Just don't blame them when you start measuring all future hotels against "did it have pinball and free beer on arrival?" Most won't.

Most hotels don't invest in these things while Jasper Hotel did the opposite -- they invested heavy here and also chose top quality products. I wish I had that fitness room and sauna room at my house lol. The front desk staff were also really very kind and nice. I liked there was a bar/restaurant on the main floor right by check in too. It was also very clean. I liked the mid century modern decor. There was no hot water in the bathroom sink. No water bottles in rooms (which I prefer) but is provided in the lobby in cups. Staff don't seem to know what they're saying whenever you ask a question. They seem disorganized. Our company booked this reservation for us and confirmed with the hotel that the company credit card on file given at the time the reservation was made was to be charged at check in. When we arrived to check in, they said those instructions were not in their system and had to provide my own payment. Not a big deal as I'll get it reimbursed but shows a lack of organization and communication. Same iffy service from the restaurant staff. They seem to stand around a lot not paying attention to customers walking up or dining in. We came down for breakfast one day .... Two people and only 1 set of silverware, no salt, pepper, jam, condiments on table. We ordered the bow tie breakfast, the guy brought out our food and asked if we needed anything else. Ummmm perhaps another set of silverware? lol I had to ask for that plus salt, pepper, jam (why was the jam sooo sour?) for toast. Ordered eggs over medium... they basically cooked it hard. Sausage and potatoes were extremely salty, only ok thing was the toast. I will give them one thing- coffee is good. I ordered coffee at breakfast and another time on the way out to a meeting. Glad I didn't have to shell out my own money as this was a business trip cause food was sooo disappointing. Quality of food at Dennys would be better. Overall- I don't recommend eating at their restaurant. Hotel rooms were ok, nice lobby an bar area. Just need to work on better service overall.
