The machinery next to room 9 that makes it impossible to sleep at The Donaldson in Fargo, ND
Tom Paul T.

Great hotel, clean and new, with comfortable bed, great shower, nice service and free coffee and pastries. Perfect location in Fargo with tons of food options within one block. BUT don't let them put you in Room 9. Machinery in the wall next to bed runs til 2:30 AM and is impossible to sleep through even with a white noise app.

Cute place! Their restaurant was under renovation so we did not get to eat there but we did stay in single king bed for a night. Room 8 was designed by a photography. It was very white and like a museum. We quite liked it. They have a complimentary wine and cheese hour and a truffle during a turndown service. Both were very fun a delicious. They have a breakfast that if we are planning to hit the road early - just ask and they can give it to you a bit early. All portions are in plastic wrap and easy to take on the road/back to your room.

We weren't forwarned that our room, #1 was above a club that had a blaring DJ and music that lasted until after midnight. I tried calling the front desk, twice. No answer. There were fake fingernails embedded in the carpet, and one in the bathroom. Just gross/disgusting!! Has me wonder what else may be in the carpet. Reached out to the manager via email yesterday, have not heard back about the absurd charge for a room that was clearly not worth the price. The best thing was the valet service, but that was a separate charge. Won't stay again.

I am not sure I can say anything about HoDo - Hotel Donaldson - that has not already been said, but we've had such a great experience that I'd like to try. We came to Fargo to celebrate our anniversary by taking in a Bison football game and staying in this luxurious boutique hotel for the weekend. We've stayed in Fargo before (our daughter attended NDSU) but never at Hotel Donaldson. I am so glad we decided to do a CFB weekend for this anniversary. The Bison win and this hotel made it so worth it. HoDo has an industrial chic vibe, with each guest room decorated with original paintings by regional artists. We stayed in the Big Dog suite (this is a dog friendly hotel so that may explain the name, not sure). If you are coming to Fargo and have the chance to stay in this hotel DO SO. There are a lot of hotels in and around Fargo, many chains from budget to mid-range, but HoDo is truly unique. The building it is in has a really interesting history. The conversion to a boutique hotel was done extremely well. This place is exclusive, in part due to its size - only 18 rooms. The Big Dog suite, room 10, is a 1.5 bathroom, 1 bedroom space with high wood clad ceilings, hardwood floors, comfortable custom furniture and a plush king sized bed. The hotel is in a busy, energetic part of downtown but we still slept great in the well appointed and very comfortable soft-mattressed bed. The main bathroom is also a treat. Bring your bath bomb or salts for the 2 person, jetted soaking tub. Plan to linger in the large rainfall shower with a separate handheld head. Plush robes and bath towels and Aveda bathing and haircare products. Kind, friendly, competent staff. Turndown service with housemade chocolate truffles (sublime) plus a unique and special touch - a CD softly playing on the bedside Bose player featuring regional artists. Ours was Deb Jenkins who I'd never heard of but really enjoyed and now plan to buy/stream! This place is a jewel in otherwise unassuming Fargo among a sea of typical mass market chain hotels. Room 10, the suite, is big, beautifully sophisticated, and romantically chic. I can't wait to come back.

Just one part of the spacious room.

I was beyond impressed with my stay at the Donaldson. The minute you walk in, you can tell this isn't your typical hotel. The rooms are extremely spacious, the inviting lobby is inviting, the food at the restaurant is delicious, and the staff went above and beyond for any need that I had. I could not have had a better experience. The location is absolutely perfect - beautiful shops and places to eat right outside and it's super close to the airport. This is a place I will most definitely visit again.

This hotel is absolutely amazing! The bed was very comfy & the room was very clean! The hotel has unique art all around. There is a hot tub on the roof top which has amazing views! I lived this hotel because it felt so cozy. I didn't even feel like I was at a hotel. The room service was also good! The food was amazing! I know that I will be staying here from now on! It's conveniently located, with lots of food places to choose from & bars to walk too.

Brewhalla

To enter Brewhalla is to surrender to a sensory maximalism rarely found in the Great Plains. It is…read morea sprawling, multi-story "food and beverage wonderland" that feels less like a traditional North Dakota establishment and more like a fever dream curated by a group of industrial-chic Vikings. Anchored by the irreverent Drekker Brewing Company, the space is a 100,000-square-foot cathedral of corrugated metal, neon murals, and high-energy conviviality. It functions as a market, a hotel, and a community living room, but at its heart, it is a shrine to the modern Midwestern appetite. The Atmosphere The layout is intentionally cavernous, encouraging a sort of culinary flânerie. One moment you are browsing the "tiny things" at local boutiques or admiring the lush greenery at The Plant Supply, and the next, you are drawn into the gravitational pull of a vintage pinball machine. The "weirdo" aesthetic--Drekker's self-applied label--is executed with a polished, professional edge that makes the large space feel vibrant rather than vacant. The Libations The beer selection is, in a word, exhaustive. Drekker has long been known for pushing the boundaries of what a "sour" or "stout" can be, and the taps here offer everything from heavy-hitting IPAs to dessert-inspired concoctions that defy categorization. * The Happy Hour: It is perhaps the most democratic hour in Fargo. The pricing is remarkably aggressive, making the high-concept environment accessible to everyone from the corporate executive on assignment to the local university student. The Culinary Landscape The beauty of Brewhalla lies in its "choose your own adventure" dining model. There is no singular menu, but rather a curated collection of local purveyors: * The Bird: Artisanal wood-fired pizzas made with North Dakota-grown flour. The crust is "hell-fired" to a perfect char, providing a sturdy base for inventive toppings. * Unicorn Park Fine Foodery: Whimsical brewery fare that hits the sweet spot between comfort and creativity. Their smash burgers are a masterclass in the form. * House of Noods + Buns: Offering steamy bao and rich bowls of ramen that provide a necessary, savory counterpoint to the sweetness of the heavier ales. * Mångata Wine & Raw Bar: For those seeking a moment of refinement, the oysters and curated wine list offer a sophisticated escape from the brewery's louder corners. The Verdict Brewhalla is an ambitious experiment in community-building that actually succeeds. It manages to be a destination for the out-of-towner while remaining a genuine "spot" for the locals. Whether you are there for a quick happy hour pint or an afternoon lost in the shops and video games, it is clear that Fargo has found its new center of gravity.

However, the staff anticipated this and provided earplugs AND a sound machine in the room. I thought that was above and beyond. We spent the evening at Drekker brewing, which had a wonderful variety of beers. We even got a complimentary 6 ounce pour upon check in. We will be back!

Of course I'm going to stay at the local Marriott wherever I am and this time it happens to be the courtyard in Fargo. I arrived after dark, but the location was well lit and prominent even from the expressway. I did take a little detour down the road and back up just to see what was close by. There are a ton of restaurants very close to this hotel. There's also a Costco directly across the street. It looks like there is quite a bit more in this area, but being that it's late and I just drove three hours. I decided to go ahead and check in to the hotel. either the hotel has been kept up very well or it is relatively new. The style is very pleasing on the outside. Parking was a breeze and there is ample parking spaces available. It looks to be what I believe a hospital on the other side of the parking lot but as of now I have not heard any loud noises from ambulances, etc. Once inside the decor definitely looks like it is a newer courtyard property. The decor is earth tones with a lot of very comfortable looking seating. There is also a very nice looking bar on the main floor. The staff member who checked me in tonight was super friendly. He was very helpful with giving me the location of everything within the hotel, as well as the hours for the bar and for breakfast in the morning. I was promptly given my key and directed towards the elevator. Upon entering my room, I immediately noticed a door to my left. The door seemed abnormally large, and for a moment, I thought that perhaps it was the door to the adjoining room & had been left open. However, it was actually the door to an enormous bathroom. The bathroom is well appointed, nice and bright, and has a gigantic shower. There was an over abundance of towels in the bathroom, and I don't even believe that I requested extras for the stay. Further entry into the room revealed a nice king size bed, a great sofa and ottoman, a very big flatscreen TV, a mini fridge that is hidden in a cabinet, and a super long desk. This room is definitely meant for business travelers or those who travel with a lot of electronics. I love love, love love rooms with enough plugs so that I can charge all of my devices at once. I work in IT so I often travel with multiple laptops and many peripherals. Right now I have everything all set up so that I can get up in the morning and start work. On both sides of the bed, there is also ample places to plug in devices using both AC adapters as well as USB. If this is a new hotel, and this is the new style that Marriott is going with by putting so many ways to charge devices in rooms, I'm all for it. I ended up going back downstairs to grab something to drink and ran into the same friendly associate. I'm now chilling and having a drink and about to watch a movie. This courtyard is a 10 out of 10.
